- In this video I will be focusing on the beautiful country of Japan. Japan is a mountainous volcanic country home to many beautiful animals unique to this area. Japan is a very elongated country so the climate and landscape can differ from the northern islands to the southern islands. Just like many other countries Japan also have some problem invasive species and will be going through just a few of these today as I will be going through 5 problem invasive species in Japan.

For our first problem invasive species we will be heading to south America as we have the coypu. The coypu was introduced for the fur trade but now it is known for destroying wetland.
For our next invasive species we will be heading to north America as we have the common snapping turtle. The common snapping turtle was thought to have found it's way into japan as an escaped pet but now damages fish and crustacean numbers.
For our next species we will be making the short trip over to east Asia as we have the Amur hedgehog. The amur hedgehog is thought to be another escaped pet and is known to feed on native bird eggs.
For our next invasive species we will be heading back over to north America as we have the largemouth bass. The largemouth bass was imported by a Japanese businessman for the fishing industry but unfortunately the largemouth bass has decimated native fish populations.
The final invasive species is the common pheasant. Животные
Funny he imported the Largemouth Bass from California because they're not even native to California.
I know i thought that too but i guess it's just easier to ship from the west coast to Japan
@@TsukiCove it's a lot easier to ship to again countries via the west
@@michaelblevins1651 yeah that's what he said
Actually the common pheasent isnt dumb at all, it thought your tractor was a Predator so it "offered itself as bait" to lure you away from its eggs/nest/younglings. Quite a smart Strategy in my opinion
What, they dont do that? at least not in Canada. they dont pretend too be hurt too lure you away at all. them freezing up is a basic reaction from a super basic mind. "im hidden" is all it thinks, cus it cant understand perspective what so ever. I have killed thousands of these birds, never have they ever tried too lure me away. While the finches in my yard will role around and act like they have busted wings too lure me away from ground nesting spots EVERY time.
@@FeedMeSalt while you say you’ve killed thousands, I’ve only seen 1 pair just down the road from my place and the bird book I have says their range is well Into my area. I’ve also yet to see a finch roll around trying to lure me away which will still work because I’ll be running away freaking out. 😂
@@FeedMeSalt The point of the male pheasants' colorful feathers is to get the attention away from the females and nesting areas. Hence why the males tend to flush first. I don't know if you've actually killed thousands of them but I feel like I you hunt them you should know this

As a Sonic fan hedgehogs being an invasive species in Japan is kinda funny
What's next? Armadillos? Alligators?

.
Can confirm, pheasants can be pretty dumb birds, because once they have chosen a direction to run in, they often keep to it. Once drove behind one for like 1 Kilometer with the haybine.
I’ve had only one experience with the Asian common pheasant. Every year my gun club, the Morgan Hill Game association released about 100 pheasants into the club’s 74 acre reserve. One year this release came a day before our yearly turkey shoot. These birds had been hand raised. The day of the shoot the birds walked among the competitors expecting to be fed. At the various events they perched atop targets and got in the way of the competitors. Altogether, they were a hilarious disaster.
That's sad
Recently saw a large mouth bass take a full grown duck, the thing came up from underneath and initially missed the duck but latched on to its neck before going under and took the duck with it.
I always look forward to these videos love this channel
thank you i appreciate it :)
Man this video series bussin!! Please keep it up
hahaha will do :)
Raccoons are also invasive in Japan. They have caused massive problems.
Raccons cause problems where they are native, they’re just troublesome creatures by nature.
@@thedoomofred5174 That's not fair. Racoons cause problems for some humans, but only because they've been able to adjust to our cities and towns after when come through and destroy their habitats.
We have raccoons that will visit our back porch every now and then for the bird feeders my dad leaves out. They're actually rather clever creatures and I would go as far as to say there is something very human about their intelligence. They've never caused us a bit of mischief. Well, other than finding amazing new ways to get at our bird seed, but we are leaving out food for animals so that's fair.. They even leave the feeders there after they manage to knock them down; they know if they run off with the whole thing, no more treats the next day!
@@Gildedmuse, I’m glad you’ve learned to coexist with the raccoons
@@thedoomofred5174 I'm just saying that raccoons are only a problem because HUMANS have encroached on their territories.
Also, they're kind of cool if you give them a chance
@@Gildedmuse, I didn’t want to play these cards but there territory has expanded because of us humans and they eat chicks feet first.

That's an oddly specific choice
Asian Carp.
Rusty Crayfish.
SNAKE HEADS! SO MANY SNAKE HEADS!
and a TON of your water ways are ruined by clams and such. also plants, you have over 100 invasive aquatic plants.

@@thewalrusclown Democrats started the KKK and they wanted to continue with slavery they're also responsible for the Jim crow laws! Biden gave a eulage at a klansmans funeral he also said the guy was a Great man!
It's worth remembering that many of the carp species were originally introduced from China.
Asian palm civets are also believed to be in introduced species (possibly pre-18th century)
Red eared sliders are a massive problem in river systems, with some 8 million individuals believed to live across the country. It competes with native turtles.
Others worthy of mention are bullfrogs, American crayfish, bluegills and raccoons.
I love these a lot for some reason. Never really into wasting time on video games so need to listen to something worth my time. These are time well spent. Can't say that about much RUclips
The common pheasant is called the ring neck pheasant where I'm from in PA, is actually raised and stocked in the forest by our state game commission. The ones that escape the hunters usually don't last too long in the wild. They are way to "dumb" to deal with our predators here.
yeah they were introduced there hundreds of years ago I think, I'm surprised they managed to survive over there
@@TsukiCove They don't survive with out the game commission. I'm very familiar with the behaviors that you described. They are tasty though.
In a lot of the US mites overwhelm the young pheasants which is why they have to be restocked in most places. They have well established breeding populations in the Plains states and prairie provinces.
@@donkeysaurusrex7881 I'm from Nebraska and I used to hunt pheasant all the time. Never saw a ton of them but there definitely there and I see them with there chicks every season
I see them a lot too because I live in a very large forest area in Pennsylvania.
Now this is epic

great video and interesting animals i saw a beautiful black pheasant once in france
Nice
Koi carp are actually invasive in my country, New Zealand, they clog up our waterways as they are filter feeders and stir everything up make water quality very poor. And pheasants are not a pest here either, they are a gamebird species preserved for sport, very interesting how different countries have different pest species.
Same here in Australia.. the Koi Carp have but almost eradicated the native Murray Cod..
But Australia has major invasive species problems..
Feral Pigs, Cane toads, foxes and feral cats being the most major species, followed by feral dogs, Brumbies, carp and goats.
To a lesser extent we then have Water buffalo's, camels and a couple others..
not to mention the rats and mice.(I'd put them as a top tier personally, as they push small native animals from their burrows, driven some extinct and also cause A LOT of damages to farming.
Then bottom tier invasive species we have a list, but they're of least concern, I think turtles were a small problem, competing with native turtles.. but not enough to make it a major problem.. same with a few birds.. especially the ones that blew over from Russia by that storm.
@@inaaronshead7331 Yes very interesting information thank you for sharing, I have heard alot ablut you guys in Australia with that sort of thing as well. I am a bit of a young fly fisherman and a hunter and I really like looking into this type of thing.
I thought raccoons were a huge problem in Japan? They were popular pets for a while in the 1970s based on an anime series of the novel Rascal by Sterling North of all things. Are things now under control with them?
Ironic because Sterling North was one of the first people to fan the flames of anti-comic book hysteria in the USA, even before Wertham.
good job tsuki
These birds are not stupid. They stalkin front of large herbivoes of tractors to catch small insects fleeing the larger moving objects. They also patrol areas ahead of small ground fires doing the same thing. Finding easily spooked food is not dumb Do not judge until you know the real reason ananimal or person does something. If they ran head on into a combine or rototiller then I would call them unintelligent.
Sixth attempt at asking Tsuki to please 🙏make a video about invasive species in Colombia and / or Brazil for the next episode. If so, I’ll become a member of the channel 👀
In Texas and other states, we call coypu’s nutria rats!
Thank you. I had never heard coypu, but nutria I do know.
In Louisiana there’s a $5 bounty for each tail turned in. You still need a basic hunting license and a trapper license.
Same in Italy .
The countryside is totally invaded by nutrie. There are thousands since the 1980s have invaded the entire plain. Even hunters were not able to stop them. The only animal able to hunt them is the wolf. In fact, for 10/15 years even in my area (near Milan a highly inhabited urban area) herds of wolves have been sighted for now harmless it was since 1700 that were not seen here ...
Hi, I really enjoy your videos. They are very informative, and they make me care about animal life.
I do have a few queries though, what exactly is the intro and outro music?
I quite enjoy it, and I would like to know what it's called.
Another is, what is the music public domain? Or is that your own?
Also, what happened to the intro music?
The music kinda gives a nice peaceful and calming vibe, and gets me into the mood of the videos.
I'm glad you like the vids, the track is called wishful thinking on youtube's audio library and it is not mine but you're are free to use in in videos i believe.
Intros are kinda a think of the past on youtube now, if you use an intro the videos normally don't do as well because people want to get right into the video straight away. I did like the vibe but it had to go unfortunately.
@@TsukiCove No worries, I understand.

So we I've very familiar with the first animal but call them nutria here in Louisiana. They destroy all kinds of grass and wet lands. Luckily they are actively hunted and taste pretty dang good. As far as bass go, love to catch them. Snapping turtles are good eating as well
Don’t forget the pheasants, they’re pretty good eating too.
And bears they're nice with a salad

Can you make some videos of invasive plants for continental europe
i would love to see a vid on native species in north africa (tunisia, algeria and morocco )
Largemouth Bass bring a billion industry to Japan. Shimano and Daiwa are prime examples
Ive had to hunt those snapping turtles before. I live in Tennessee, in the southeast US. We had to hunt them because they kept killing and eating a friends baby ducks when they would swim in his pond. He asked if I would help, so we stood on the bank with a 12 gauge shotgun waiting for them to come up for air to shoot them, if they didnt die like immediately from the shotgun, they would then swim straight to the banks, were we would put a .40 cal bullet in their head. They are not hard to track thru the water because of the bubbles that come to the surface. I hate to kill anything but them constantly killing someones ducks which they normally bred and sold, was like taking money out of their pockets.

Talk about invasive, you can have a whole series on how invasive those "cute" snake heads are. Freaking Gremlins.
Two other invasive fish species in Japan are the Alligator gar and Snake head. Both cause huge damage to the ecosystem.
Nutria is the usual English name for coypu. Not sure why people decided to try changing the name a few years ago.
Please do Brazil
Japan nearly had Australian brush tailed possums as a serious pest as well. About 15 years ago some total idiots were exporting possums from New Zealand to Japan for pets. Possums are an eco catastrophe in New Zealand and would have been similarly devastating in Japan. Possums love cherry trees for a start. Fortunately we alerted Japanese authorities and the trade was quickly stopped. Curiously, there was no law in NZ against exporting these pests.
Here’s another animal that should be in this list, but this animal is not an invasive species but a very overpopulated one,
I’m talking about the nomura jellyfish, why i say this jellyfish is over populated is because this jellyfish is supposed(or more accurate use )to bloom once every 40 years, but now this jellyfish is blooming yearly, and this jellyfish is a problem and threat to fishermen and other industries around the Japanese coastline.
What makes this jellyfish even scary is that they reproduce really fast, each female nomura jellyfish can produce up to a billion eggs during its short mudusa life span of one year or 12 months.
This jellyfish has been linked to the shut down of nuclear power plants and overfishing.
