you made an important point: most competitive teams practice the same routine/performance the entire competitive season. having the girls do a new one every week is crazy
I was a dancer from the age of 3-18 and yet I didn’t watch Dance Moms until I graduated. All I can say from my experience and the anecdotal experiences I’ve heard from others is that the dance industry is extremely toxic for children and teens. The teachers tear you down emotionally, mentally, and physically little by little. It feels like being surrounded by mean girls but they’re all 30+ years old and have fully developed brains. I think it’s sad that my memories of dance have been ruined from the bad experiences I’ve had. I still love to dance but hated the environment
I'm with you on that. Dance Moms came around when I was like 9-10 years old and I was starting to compete at that point...oh my gosh the paradigm in my studio shifted dramatically since then. It was pretty bad at some point because the girls themselves were not good teammates to each other. Whoever wasn't on the competition team was viewed lesser than by not only the girls but the teachers as well. I had beef with this one girl who was supposed to be my duo partner but we fell off and I got a solo-I digress-she got really close to one of my friends but by the next competition season, we have auditions every season to see who is good enough to compete...my friend didn't make the cut and the girl I had issues with, but my friend was close to, completely cut her off and acted as if she didn't exist. Dance was never supposed to be like this. It honestly frustrates me that people claim that Dance Moms was like this pillar of greatness when it comes to the dance world. They ruined it imo.
The crazy thing is..the girls parents TRIED to get them off the show earlier but their contracts and the shows team would NOT let that happen..like they fought hard for years and then finally they started leaving the group slowly.
Jojo seemingly grew up to be exactly like Abby. If you look at the way she treated the girls in the pop group she managed it becomes clear that she's just as mean.
wait lowkey need a recap of russian figure skating drama from you now 😭 i never knew anything about dance moms but everyone always compared abby lee miller to eteri and i GET it now after this video 😭
Going from prison to cancer to paralysis is a WILDLY unfortunate series of events. Almost feels like karma came for Abby's ass after she spent 3-4 too many decades traumatizing children.
Also I haven't noticed anyone else mention this, but JoJo has continued in Abby's name being an 💫abusive💫 dance teacher with her mum. XOMGPop was exposed for some really horrible things, like JoJo (maybe Jessalyn, idr) yelling at these girls through ear pieces while dancing, telling a disabled dancer to "put a pad on her costume so blood doesn't get on it" when she started bleeding out of her belly button. They also pressured this girl to start dancing less than a MONTH after having SPINAL SURGERY even though she wasn't supposed to for multiple months because, you know, being a young person who's just had spinal surgery. As well as not letting the girls do their legally required education minimum, with one girl reporting that she did less than 8 hours of schoolwork in a month? (Don't quote me on this, it happened in Feb and my memory is hazy hahaha.) They also didn't pay the girls/their mums enough and left them sleeping in dance studios and scrubbing Jessalyn and Jojo's toilet to earn more money. Lots of people are thinking Jojo's rebrand was to avoid those allegations and have people talk about that instead of the Rolling Stone article alleging all of this, which I 100% agree with lol. So yeah, JoJo isn't actually the greatest and has definitely been groomed to accept it as normal from a young age
The first thing that came to mind was the TikTok audio that spread like wildfire of Abby Lee Miller saying what the pyramid order was. Paige was at the bottom.

Maddie has always been my favorite IDCCC even when everyone thought she was a brat i still loved her. And the funny thing is, she was never an actual brat. The arguing with Abby was pretty much the only way they could protect their kids. Sigh, I feel like this isn’t long enough. Gonna need a Pyrocynical length RUclips documentary of some random thing I haven’t heard of and won’t remember after I’m done watching the video. Thank you Amanda
The reality tv thing is the big issue. They create drama and conflict, the kids have to film for hours and hours, having to learn new routines every week, having to compete every week, having plotlines based around comparison and competition, mother's being made to stay for the whole class to create drama when they would normally leave so the kids don't have the pressures of their mothers watching, let alone fighting. This is not normal for dance.
I also grew up in the dance sphere and the level of grooming that happens in this world is rampant, traumatizing, and far too normalized. I'm currently in therapy and working through my own experiences which-while traumatizing themselves-still only mildly compare to what these girls experienced on national television. tragic is exactly the right word for it. I have to be in a very specific mood to be able to consume dance moms content because it can be so triggering. that being said, I had no idea about pretty much anything Chloe has been doing post-dance moms, I'm surprised I hadn't heard about anything you mentioned. I would be really interested in that follow up if you were willing to cover it!
I strongly believe Abby was on drugs in late S5-7 and thats how she could've lost all her money. Plus if you look at her physical appearance and how crazy she was acting it makes sense honestly. No makeup or hair done, manically laughing for no reason. No wonder the Zieglers wanted to leave at this point
if you didn’t know, the moms were told this was going to be more like a 6 episode docu-series about dance which is what season 1 was, after season 1 was a smash they wanted to order new seasons and the moms signed these abysmal contracts locking them in for six years ! while i understand they could have not signed up in the first place, but no one expected the show to take the turn it did tbh
35:56 I lost my dog Kramer last December after almost 14 years together and I still cry often. You think you're ready for it as their health declines, but you'll never be emotionally ready. Not sure how I feel about the taxidermy, but this is the one thing I'll give Abby credit for. Losing a pet is beyond heartbreaking, and totally understandable to be taking it hard. (Abby is still a terrible person though)
Great video! Hadley never danced for the ALDC though, only the Candy Apples. And Kevin's episode is back up, I just watched it a week ago, but it was taken down previously. I'm still watching but great so far, please do more!
We aren’t getting a new Dance Moms The New Era - the studio (Studio Bleu) closed before the season even premiered lol. There’s a lot of drama surrounding it
I watched a 7 hour recap of law and order svu and its will they wont they of stabler and benson. Just letting you know what comes to mind when I read "unnecessaryly long"
I never watched the show but I love all of the Studio 19 drama clips I've seen online. It's so hilarious because of how shameless the Studio 19 coaches were about wanting screentime.
the og’s (like original 6 from s1) definitely seem to be closest, like you never see the zieglers with kalani or kendall anymore. -also nia released a song this year and apparently was in the new mean girls movie? (i haven’t seen it i just saw on the dm reddit lol) -brynn and kalani choreograph/teach dance now, brynn has a podcast -paige still does some modeling, along with maddie and nia -all the main girls are really active on socials except maddie
I grew up watching the show as an aspiring performer who was taking tap and jazz classes at the time with overall theater as well. So i related a lot to the girls, like stayed up late watching an episode rerun the night Kendall’s song dropped and buying it on my ipod nano type obsessed n relating. And I’m 21 now and as the demographic of the show I have to say it’s quite bizarre the effect it had. Like us joking in dance saying how dance is actually kinda like the show in the ways its unhealthy, encouraging kids to body roll in a way thats sexy, talking about bodies negatively and the unnecessary attitude, and favoritism that has nothing to do with talent. And personally I have to say the drama of it all wasn’t why I watched. It’s a part of why I return yea but growing up I don’t even think I actually processed any drama besides Kathy, which was all in playful fun up until the while bag incident.
Something I will respect about Cathy is that what I gleamed from interviews and various talks about her, she seemed to understand she was casted as the “villain” of the show (and also probably understood that nothing she could do would really be worse than our villain “protagonist” Abby) and she played into it. It also seems kind of telling that her daughter played a lot less of a role in the show. I’m just speculating, but I would not be surprised if she just didn’t want her daughter to become so scrutinized by the show and kept her in the sidelines. This isn’t an attack on the other moms of the show, who let their girls just take the full brunt of the circus the show presented. I don’t think they understood exactly what they were getting themselves or their daughters into, but it’s actually notable to see Cathy not only lean into herself as a “villain” for tv while also (potentially) protecting her own daughter from the drama in whatever way she could.
It freaks me out that the aldc girls are college aged now- I had Vivi in a class with me and I didn’t want to make her feel weird by bringing up dance moms but I couldn’t stop thinking about the ring quote 😭
Love this!! I think it’s important to mention that Christi and chloe were finally able to get out of the contract and leave the show in S5 bc Abby made fun of Chloes eye
If anyone want more in depth vidoes about the show, I highly recommend the channel MackZ Boss. She makes really well researched videos on specific incidents and topics regarding the show, and has a series going through the notes producers whote while filming episodes. She's made episode by episode breakdowns of the show, as well as videos about production interference, child exploitation, racism going on during the show and many other topics. It completely changed how I see certain incidents and whole plotlines featured in the show.

Amanda for president 🙌🏻
36:08 Doggo stole my heart with that little snore 🥹
Brynn also didn't leave before the other girls, she just stayed with Abby so she was on a different team competing against the other girls
@@H8teaJoylessShe technically did leave before the other girls. She left the show before the irreplaceables did.
I’m sorry A TATTOO OF MADDIES TEETH?? WE’RE JUST GLOSSING OVER THAT????
im so brainrotted all i could think about is how you said thick of it
We aren’t getting a new Dance Moms The New Era - the studio (Studio Bleu) closed before the season even premiered lol. There’s a lot of drama surrounding it
Didn’t know anything about dance moms other than current Jojo, so this was very entertaining and informative. Thank you
ive been cleaning for the past hour while listening to this video, thanks
the clip you used to introduce Melissa was perfect 😂
Thank you for knowing how to make a proper apology. You had all three necessary parts
I watched a 7 hour recap of law and order svu and its will they wont they of stabler and benson. Just letting you know what comes to mind when I read "unnecessaryly long"
they said it wasn't long enough and she delivered
Jojo had her own show and there are some pretty bad allegations about things that happened behind the scenes
We BACK!
I never watched the show but I love all of the Studio 19 drama clips I've seen online. It's so hilarious because of how shameless the Studio 19 coaches were about wanting screentime.
35:25 I NEVER HEAR OTHER PEOPLE WITH MY NAME THAT SCARED THE SHIT OUT OF ME
Now this is what I call unnecessarily long, thank you.
the og’s (like original 6 from s1) definitely seem to be closest, like you never see the zieglers with kalani or kendall anymore.
-also nia released a song this year and apparently was in the new mean girls movie? (i haven’t seen it i just saw on the dm reddit lol)
-brynn and kalani choreograph/teach dance now, brynn has a podcast
-paige still does some modeling, along with maddie and nia
-all the main girls are really active on socials except maddie
I gotta watch this man, this kind of trash fire is exactly the kind of show to watch with friends while pointing and laughing
I clicked to see if you adress the fake unnecessary long title, thank you
Nice job Amanda, your so lovely and did a great job with this wacky show!
Wait please do one for jenzie it’s a must 🙏
The Book of Henry was a CRAZY movie, I was so lost
Love the danny references
This is how I find out my lady Jane was cancelled!
ned flames mention
as a graduated competitive dancer false lashes will forever be my opp. like i only wore them once cuz my studio didn’t make us wear them
Love this!! I think it’s important to mention that Christi and chloe were finally able to get out of the contract and leave the show in S5 bc Abby made fun of Chloes eye
girl sidenote i wish i looked this pretty without makeup, love ur vids
If anyone want more in depth vidoes about the show, I highly recommend the channel MackZ Boss. She makes really well researched videos on specific incidents and topics regarding the show, and has a series going through the notes producers whote while filming episodes. She's made episode by episode breakdowns of the show, as well as videos about production interference, child exploitation, racism going on during the show and many other topics. It completely changed how I see certain incidents and whole plotlines featured in the show.
I hope I can still dance
