It's not so much that 2 mph is a big deal, it's just that most car people tend to do that, always round it off to a more impressive number. Being around car people for as much as I have been, being a car guy myself, it has come to really fucking irk me.
470 hp will suddenly become 500 when talking dyno numbers. A car that will do 0-60 in 4.5 seconds in reality will by the owner be touted as "about 4 seconds", an 11.4 second quarter mile will become "11 flat" and so on. May seem like insignificant, after all we're talking half a second difference. What's half a second, what's the big deal? The mentality is the big deal.
Now in this particular case I don't mind the slight exaggeration at all because everyone knows this car will easily do 170, and 180 too, with the governor removed. But still, a lifetime of listening to car guys always rounding off to the bigger or better number has made me a bit fed up with the general fibbing mentality.
