- In today's video we embark on a road trip across the USA to Colorado, to start our new life together in Denver. We decluttered a few more things, packed up our car and drove 1300 miles to our new home. We didn't own any furniture, therefore we spent the first week shopping second hand, thrifting, and searching facebook marketplace to make our new home as sustainable and zero waste as possible. I hope you enjoy the first instalment of our life in Denver.
If you haven't seen my decluttering series before moving check them out below! I've made a series of minimalism videos detailing how I was decluttering my whole life to move abroad, but today's video is slightly different. I take you through the whole process of packing and moving and some of the broken items that didn't make it!

I hope you enjoy today's moving vlog! We are in the process of getting as much as possible second hand for our new place and its been a journey!! Let me know if you have any questions! xx
I just moved from Denver because the altitude and winter weren’t my jam. (Sincerely never adjusted to the less oxygen after 5yrs)
I’m sure you’ve gotten these recs but there’s a zero waste shop next to make believe bakery (wonderful vegan bakery) and also one in Stanley market place.
Also, if you guys end up looking for a fancy vegan out dinner eventually I highly recommend somebody people, it’s pricey but it’s the whole tons of small plates thing and there foods amazing.
Ode to the humble desk… Thirty-six years ago, at the young and naive age of 23, I was a fresh-outa-uni grad who moved from my parents home in the city to a remote wilderness community in northern 🇨🇦. This is where I took my first teaching job, and I’m still here as I type this comment. Like you Immy, I found moving to be very overwhelming!! In my new community I new nobody, I didn’t have much stuff, and I had no place to live. I clearly remember three items that I brought with me: 1. My ice-hockey equipment & skis 2. My sewing machine 3. My desk. This particular old wooden desk is 2nd hand (it came from a church rectory), and even tho’ my parents did not have any money for extras, they ensured that each of us kids had their own 2nd hand desk. I got my desk when I was six years old, I still have it, and it has been the cornerstone of my learning and creating throughout my life. Having been in school for the past 54 years, on one side of the desk or the other, I know and appreciate how a desk, with all its drawers for stationary, school supplies, and crafting bits and bobs can provide not just a work surface but it can also impart inspiration and encourage creativity. In many ways I think a desk is like a loyal friend. I want to thank-you for sharing this desk appreciation moment as well as all your moving adventures with us today, Immy. 💦🌎Ⓜary💕 PS - This little story came to mind because you reminded me of how important a desk can be, no matter where we live. Thanks for this warm-fuzzy love-my-desk feeling.
I love your desk story, Mary! ♥
@@jemma50 Thanks for your awesome kindness and sincerity Jemma!! It’s funny how Immy’s cool little video made me appreciate a desk that I’ve had almost all my life. Good 2nd hand furniture is a real treasure!! Ⓜ️ary
@@marycharlebois6627 I totally agree. ♥ Pretty sure every piece of furniture I own is second-hand. 😊
Such a lovely story! Thanks for sharing. It reminds me of my own desk. My mom was about the same age you were when her dad took her to pick it out. Then I got it at the same age and it has been with me ever since. The use and contents have shifted, but there is one drawer that remains the same. When I open it, I find all the little things I need, but it's also the comfort of childhood in a world that is sometimes a bit too "grown up" to handle.
@@LoveLeeMeJenny Thank-you so much for sharing your desk story… I love it!! I got a little choked up and reminiscent when I read about the one drawer that you have kept the same. I can just imagine all the little treasures and trinkets in that drawer that you have so lovingly cherished and saved. What a great idea… don’t ever let go of those little pieces of childhood comfort. I really appreciate you taking the time so share your story about your was-your-Mom’s-but-is-now-your-very-special desk. I hope you are having a great weekend my friend. Ⓜ️ary🇨🇦
A smeg toaster!!! Wow what a steal
Your thrift store finds are goals! I prefer to shop for everything secondhand, but I often struggle to find things I need or even things in my style. Can’t be too picky though!
Welcome to the Mile High City lovebirds. I’m a native Denverite and I hope y’all enjoy the city.
Thank you so much ❤️❤️ so far we couldn’t love it more!!
I just think it's so interesting how I've been watching your videos for a couple of years from Denver, CO and now you moved to Denver, CO. Hope you like it here. 🙂
Absolutely lovely video. Pleeease take us thrifting + zero waste shopping with you. And would love to see you share your home decor updates whenever you can! much love you two.
Btw-
Take extra care of yourselves-
Adjustments to high altitude life is real…
Sleep and rest😊
The Denver goodwill on Broadway will deliver over time! High recommend for great second hand
I clicked so fast! 1st to say happy-rest-of-your-lives
🥰🥰🥰
Welcome to Denver!!! We live in Arvada - just 15 mins west of Denver. How cool to have you nearby, Immy! I've followed you for years! You're going to love Zero Market.
ah thank you so much :) I love love love it here so far! It has literally everything I could want!! Felling very lucky
Love secondhand or used items - don’t understand the need to buy buy buy …. Thank you for sharing - much luck and happiness!
Okay I’m so jealous that you found an out-of-box Smeg toaster, those things are impossible to find for a decent price!
It’s so fun to hear you talk about the city that I live in. I know all of the places you’re discussing. I’m leaving Denver next week but for one moment our paths have kind of crossed. Lol😂
Immy I loved this! Full of vicarious happiness for you guys!
It makes me so happy to see you both together just living life 😊
Second hand furniture is the best! We furnished our house with probably 80% secondhand and we love it! Such good bang for your buck! Sturdy furniture and creates a fun and ecclectic feel for the house too! My favorites are a black floral end table we got on Facebook marketplace and a vintage army surplus chair!
Ooh, just the kind of video I love. You’ve made lots of progress already! It’s all gonna look fab when you add your little personal touches…loving the chunky blanket 😍 Don’t you find it quite exhilarating to see what you can nab when you mooch around these places? There’s no rush…enjoy the process 😉
It’s a little surreal to watch because my partner and I just moved into Denver as well. We just got into a house (that we are renting because housing prices are CRAZY - honestly even our rent is spendy but we’re managing). Almost everyday I’m going to thrift stores, used furniture places, yard sales, etc etc just trying to get everything 😅 OH AND CHECK OUT ESTATE SALES! I’ve found a lot of hidden gems that way!
Ps. We still have clothes thrown into our closest floor cause I haven’t found drawers that I like yet 😅
Welcome to Colorado :) You moved just in time for the snow.
@@sarahchristoff2125 Thank you! And I know it’s beautiful!! Wishing for just a little bit more here soon 🥰
So Happy to see that you moved to my city , Denver 🎉. Welcome Welcome , I have been watching you for such a long time and look forward to seeing you get to know Denver. I’m vegan for 8 years and there are many many others Please try Watercourse all vegan restaurant on 17th and Ogden in Denver. Also Wellness Sushi located on Colfax. I’m sure you’ve seen them on HappyCow !
Thank you so much for the recommendations!!
this video gave me so many ideas for my next move! I'm relocating to atl soon, and I'm hopefully gonna get my own place eventually, so this video was fun to watch for that
Your new place has great windows
Loved this video from you Immy! Lovely how you are creating such a beautiful home. I was wondering if you would like to make a video about creating a sustainable home with a partner that isn't sustainability oriented. I'm moving apartment to move with my boyfriend and we need to get practically everything one needs to live. I would not mind scouring thriftstores or marketplace amd wait for the perfect thing to come along. While my boyfriend really is comfort oriented and would rather order everything in a 'fast furniture' shop like ikea. 'It's cheap easy and fast' is his mentalaty. Problem is, is that he earns the most as he is a few years older and I just got out of university. So I can have some influence but he always makes the last call. It really hurts my heart, when I was in university living in a student dorm I did everything I could environmentally. However now I know there is a lot more I could do, but it feels like I have hit an unnecessary ceiling with a partner who cares more about cheap and comfort. Sorry for the long comment but any tips or help would be more than welcome 💛
This is so inspiring. Hopefully I’ll be moving soon and I want to get most of the new items second hand. Just got to convince my fiancé lol
We also sleep very well with 2 duvets !
Congratulations on your new house and great finds. I totally agree that Beyond Beef jerky is awful. I don't like Beyond burgers either.
woow. greatt finds! the bed is so nice!
I think so too! thanks so much for watching
It is so fun seeing you and your videos in my city. Welcome to Denver! I think there are a lot of your viewers here - will you have a meet up?
So lovely to see you making your plans real. Where did you find that beautiful teapot. As you have now started to make Denver home have the things that were making you worry gone away and what do you miss most about the UK apart from family ❤😀
Orange was THE stain of choice around here back in the day :p you'll find lots of old, hideous orange furniture in the US haha
Love the furniturexx
Welcome to Colorado! I hope you love it as much as I do!
The hotel that inspired The Shining is located in Estes Park, CO and they have a ghost tour. Pretty cool place to check out and only 2 hours from Denver :)
love you new love Nest and well done with the second hand furniture etc. why would anyone waste money on everything new with such solid item some of which give you a project i.e that amazing table. and I love your big windows. enjoy.
Congratulations on your first home together! Enjoy this live-altering time of transition while savoring all of the small details. Looks like you are building a warm and comfy place to start your new lives together. Big hugs to you both!
Lol. That's pretty much the face I made when I tried the beyond meat jerky 😂
Wowoowowowowowoww congrats!! Can’t believe you stopped in Omaha, that’s where my husband is from, I call it the gem of the Midwest😊
Well done thrifting, when we moved to the Midwest from France we had such a hard time finding a second hand couch and tables, it was just after the pandemic which explains why!
And kudos to you in finding a 2nd hand weighted blanket! In not sharing a duvet, a lot of Northern Europeans do that! At least you don’t have to do the tug of war in the middle of the night 😂😂😂
seeing my brothers town on the same sign as the Denver turnoff was something, lol, I haven't gotten to visit him yet there
Honestly having our own blankets in our bed has helped my husband and I tremendously. We each have a queen sized one though haha
Family members all love their weighted blankets! If nobody already said-duvet on top of it or your duvet gets crushed...such a fun video! 💖
Wow- it is impressive, how much nice stuff you got! And hey, it has to be cozy, if you have a Totoro in your house :):)
Enjoy your new home, and wish you it to be full of coziness, love and good spirit! Cheers!
Your little place is so cute! I love all those windows
Your new home looks gorgeous! And you scored some great secondhand items! Congratulations on the move (:
WILD that is a replica of my grandmother's kitchen table!
Loved this video
Congratulations on your first home together! Loved watching it come together.
And welcome to CO! I moved back to Colorado Springs 2 years ago and am loving it!
Please share where you found the out of box stuff. I’m occasionally in Denver and would love to check them out!
That jerky got me too girl. Funny enough I bought it to take to the UK on a vacation….it is dog food. 😅
Love watching you sustainability create your house! Just makes the living space so extra full of love 🥰
Well done for taking the time and energy to thrift all of your stuff -amazing!
I would love to see, a lil vid on things you brought, like did the bike make it?! Is the bike in the vid the og or your partners?
Good to see Totoro is at home in your cozy new place. Love it!!
I am so happy for you and finally starting your lives together in your new home in Denver. May happiness follow you wherever you go. 🎉
LOL, your reaction to the Beyond Jerky was exactly my reaction!
Welcome to Denver!! Excited to see you’re settling in and enjoying it so far :) there are so many vintage and secondhand stores to explore here that I think you’ll like. I can’t remember if you have a Facebook, but if so I *highly* recommend FB marketplace because for whatever reason, the finds on there around Denver are particularly awesome. Also the Goodwill on 44th in NW Denver always has great homeware in my opinion! 💗
Absolutely second these recommendations - we've found the best second hand stuff on FB marketplace but really opens up around springtime when people are moving! Welcome to Denver - you're going to love it here :)
So thrilled for you!! I have been a fan for a long time from the other side of the world, it's crazy to think you're only about 8 hours away from me now- I'm in Wichita, KS. Also thought we were the only ones that did 2 different blankets to sleep with!
You were in Omaha and I didn't know it! Hope you enjoyed your stay.
Same! I jumped when she said Omaha in the intro 😂
Thank you for sharing your adventure with us. I am loving seeing what you are up to as you settle in to married life.
It's getting such a heartwarming place to be in! I hope you both will enjoy it very much. ☺️❤️
Hoping to move out of my family’s home soon and I can’t wait to do this myself ^~^
Thrift store always have entire place and bowl sets
I love watching you shopping and putting your home together. Wishing you both a happy time in your new home.
Immy we think you two did great on your choices for your new home.👍👍❤
You guys did SUCH a great job with all the second hand items! Cheers to you both in the new home! ❣️✌️🌱
Looove it ☺️💖
I laughed at the Beyond jerky. My partner pointed it out in the store today and I told him no. Glad I made the right choice! 😂
I’m loving this content about your new space! I can’t wait to see what’s to come. And I have Totoro too!
I actually really love it and have bought it several times. I found it pretty comparable to commercial beef jerky
Denver has great thrifting / secondhand shopping!
Such a lovely cosy video. It's great to follow along your journey, your relationship with stuff is so healthy and inspirational!
Such a lovely video. I love when you are showing that it is possible to get nice things second hand 🤩 Your place already looks so cozy, and it is just going to get better 🌺
I can’t believe you’re in Denver! I’ve been watching your channel for years and I live in Denver too. :)
I loved getting a glimpse of your new Home 😌 I'm excited for a Apartment Tour once you're fully settled and decorated - I know this might Take a while 😉 ..the brick wall in your Office Looks stunning already! 😍
If you ever find yourself in Boulder you should check out Rebecca's Apothecary.
Desks have been in such short supply since the pandemic, it's wild. Glad you were able to find some scores! That weighted blanket is lovely :)
Excited for you guys!! ❤
Love seeing your new space gradually come together as a cozy home, Immy. ♥♥ I hope you will do a full tour when you have it furnished and arranged the way you want it. 😊
Really enjoyed watching! I'm moving in a few weeks and I've been living in a temporary situation living very minimally. I'm also excited to outfit my new place with used items I find. Home is what you create, not how much you spend. Thanks for that reminder heading into my next phase
Hope you love CO! My partner and I just moved to Colorado's Western Slope this past summer and it has been wonderful. Thank you for your videos! Always an inspiration.
You’re making such a good start on the new place, looks so cosy! My husband and I started using separate duvets when we moved to Sweden as it’s customary here - game changer!
Welcome to Denver!! ❄️
very cosy little place. enjoy!
I really like the furniture! Love secondhand stuff 😍
Really happy for your new journey ! Check out Garden of the Gods in Colorado springs it's magical I think you will like it, luv that you buy used so cost effective when you move, love your channel!!
So exciting, congratulations to the both of you! You guys look so happy :) the house looks really cute and the bedframe you found is gorgeous!
I am so happy for you guys. It is such a gratifying feeling being able to start buding a life with the one you love. 🥰
Absolutely loving following along on your sustainable home and moving journey ❤

Love this video so much, I've moved across the pond the same time as you but to Canada instead. Your videos have definitely made me feel less alone in this journey, and giving me so much hope for my future with all your tips!
Congrats on the new place. Some really good bargains n quality stuff. Enjoy. Looks cozy already.
Looooove the chest of drawers!! I did get a lot of furniture secondhand for my house, but I could buy it beforehand and leave it at my parents house. Must be overwhelming for you to do this all at once!
Thanks for sharing those beautiful finds with us and happy for you that you finally get to settle in your new home :)
I'm so excited for you! Your place looks great!
So happy for you guys! Great job pulling the place together - it's looking nice! I love all the used/second hand items you've gotten. Can't wait to see the dresser and end table painted.🙂
Love the vibe! My whole house is gifted or thrifted furniture. I do need to work on getting second hand kitchen items tho
It looks lovely - I hope Denver will feel like home to you soon! - Greetings from Germany:)
Lovely!I am sure you saved a fortune buying thrift. Most of my house is thrift.
Great video! 😊But please, tell us quantities in SI units 😅When use said 680 I though m^2 and I was thinking: wow, so huge. And than you added: feet 😂I understand the US uses the imperial system, but we watch you from other lands too 😊
