painkiller619 undertaker Why? Im new to the game. I thought Kia and Hyundai has low resale value. Does your comment pertains that a 10 year Toyota and a 5 year old Kia/Hyundai has almost the same price/resale?
You shouldn’t buy any car brand new and sell it in 5 years. Leasing would make more sense then. If your not gonna keep you’re car for closer to ten years then purchasing a vehicle is not economically smart. The reasons why Hyundai/Kia give such good warranties is to offset the low resale value. Hence the reasoning of keeping a purchased vehicle for that length of time to get actual value out of it. It’s very simple, that’s not opinion based conjecture, it’s the fact of the matter.
Kia has really changed their game when it comes to producing new cars and design. However, I wish they would also change their badging. It just looks horrible. A K logo design would be really nice. In our country, the Kia delearships are selling K logo badges. I just wish they can make it official to make this car look really good.
Excellent comparison !! I like the driving dynamics of the Civic, but the Interior of the Kia looks modern. Options in the Kia like heated steering wheel, blind spot monitoring which is NOT available in the Civic , makes the Kia a good choice. It is close, probably need to drive the cars back to back to make a decision. Motor Trend has the 0-60 MPH times. Civic 6.8 sec, Kia 8.2. The Civic needs a refreshed interior.

Jodi Lai seems to have a serious dislike for the Honda Brand and she has found either an ally or a lackey in Sebastien. I can't think of a single review she's done that doesn't do some kind of backhanded dig at Honda in some way. She starts off by saying "I'm usually quick to criticize the Honda Civic style... It's not the kind of car you want to get to stand out". She then says the Forte is like a little Stinger (a pretty aggressively styled car) and immediately about faces by saying that the Civic's to too aggro (a gaming term for aggressive). The Civic 1.5L turbo has 174 HP/162 LB-FT/36 MPG Kia's 2.0 Non-turbo has 147 HP/132 LB-FT/34 MPG... Sebastien grudgingly says "overall this LOOKS like a win for the Civic". Overall? in every aspect, the Civic does better. Jodi says "I've said it before and I'll say it again the Honda Civic has a very busy interior (although the Civic infotainment/HVAC system has 12 buttons & 3 dials while the Kia has 14 buttons and 4 dials). She and Sebastien say the word "busy" 4 more times when describing the Civic interior then once again backhandedly say "but (the Civic) does a very good job sneaking in the cheaper materials (suggesting is trying to hide how cheap their cars are, while ignoring that their statement also suggests it has mostly nice materials)". less than a minute later they acknowledge that the Kia interiors downfall is that "it ALL looks kind of cheap" finishing up with "I'd never call the Civic's interior bad but...(the cheap-looking Kia Forte's is better)". They blow through mentioning that Honda Sensing has safety 6 features (while calling one of those features "stupid") while taking their time to highlight that Kia has (only) 4 safety features (but none of them are stupid). The features the Kia is missing are "a bit of a disadvantage". They try really hard to be impartial but by actively avoiding terms like "class-leading", "Best in Class" or "segment leader' while saying that the Kia is everything you should expect in the segment and is $2000 less. If you could pay $2000 more and have the best in class everyone would do it. Autoguide please take Jodi Lai off of reviewing Honda's.
Why didn't you compare the Honda 2 liter non-turbo to the Kia 2 liter? I bet you the Kia's engine and performance would have been better. And BTW, the Kia has an IVT, which is the best CVT type transmission on the market. In any case, the $2k difference on a car at this price point - is a BIG difference, making the Forte the clear better choice.
After owning Honda's since 1984 . I have 2019 forte . Fit and finish just as good . By far the Kia CVT is better . If you drive sport mode manual properly it flys. Getting 41 mpg highway trips at 80mph and 38 mpg around town. All for less than $20,000
I went from a 2012 Cruze to The 2019 Forte and I'm beyond amazed with the Forte. The ride isn't as smooth as the Cruze considering it doesn't have independent rear suspension but other than that, the look (inside and out), the power and torque difference, the features and the MPGs are amazing. I get upwards of 40 MPGs on my way to work (in sport mode) and 30+ in the city with over a 400 mile range on about 12 gallons of gas.
Honda civic has nailed it, plenty of leg room, cargo room and good power but also reliable. Kia is a poor man's car, poor resale value, bad quality etc etc.

The engine comparison is a bit off because of the differences of trims. The LX and Sport trims horsepower is at 158 and more comparable to the Forte trims of FE, LXS, EX, and GT Line
You guys should have put the Kia Forte GT turbo with a 1.6 L turbo that makes 201 HP and a 193 Ib -ft Torque l, it does not comes with the hybrid but it gives you more stuff than a Honda Civic
If you want the cheaper car you go with KIA, how ever that does not mean it's the better car. If you want the better overall package than you go with the Civic. You have to ask yourself what you want, do you want the car that will cost less but less refined in everyday driving or do you want the better built car with the better overall package.

I disagree with this video in SOOO many ways! Any issue with Civic seemed to be catastrophic and sub-par! Busy interior? Busy exterior? That's for a reason, ATTENTION TO DETAIL! Civics are just more premium and substantive than Kia. Honda caters to a large demographic with the hatch, sedan, coupes; they offer everything from a base model to a type R. I'd like to see either of these cars at 100,000 miles or 200,000 miles, even with Honda's turbo. Note, this was a bold and very recent move to use a GDI turbo. Sure, there may be some oil dilution, but that's typical of GDI engines. CHANGE YOUR OIL and boom - problems detoured. A new type of oil will also hit the markets next year that will also help with dilution. Nobody mentioned RESALE VALUE! Again, let's look at resale values in 5 years of ownership. The Civic may be more expensive, but in turn you are getting comfort, reliability, safety, resale value that can't be matched. Also, this generation Civic came out about four or five years ago, a new generation should be rolling out in a few years anyway. This will help Civic maintain a position it has had and will have for years to come. Kias are good cars, Hondas are GREAT cars. The Civic has yet to meet it's match. Kelley Blue Book and Consumer Reports offer better, more accurate car information.

Why not to buy Kia: 1. cheap paint that cracks and peels 2. rust that comes through paint and chrome 3. alternators dying under 50k miles 4. Kia's warranty is a joke and finds any reason to not honor it 5. defective forward collision avoidance 6. engines seizing with no lights/sounds/warnings and leaving drivers stranded 7. headlamps/taillights/electrical components needed replacement at 50k miles 8. cars are cheap, frame is cheap, parts are cheap everything about Kia is cheap I could go on and on, but the point is: DON'T BUY KIA!! I see tons of people always praising Kia for being affordable and cheap and RELIABLE. I agree with the first two but find myself chuckling at Kia and "reliable" being in the same sentence.I get that all carmakers have their faults, but anyone that knows anything about cars, and more specifically reliable cars will not recommend a Kia/Hyundai. If you're on a budget, I get that; but the reality with buying cars like these is, yes, you pay less initially, but with the constant cost of repairs, it will equal if not surpass the cost of owning other car brands, such as Honda, Toyota, Mazda, or Ford.
Did somebody pay you to write this? Or did your ex girlfriend love Kia cars? Absolute lies. Or maybe you must be an old model(year 2000 and below) kia user.

China's government even implemented a forced stop-sale of this engine in the CR-V due to so many problems. Impressive engine? I don't think so. Honda's poorly-engineered piston ring design will more than likely compromise long-term longevity. Don't bother asking any service personnel at a US Honda dealership: You will likely get the proverbial runaround, a mishmash of half-truths and denial. I'll take the much nicer Forte, from a brand that backs its powertrain with a 100K warranty. KIA has a very impressive line-up of models. They have done their homework. IMHO, I also think the Forte will age better down the road. The Civic may end up looking rather silly in 5 years -- like that once-popular friend or neighbor everyone has, who has staunchly stuck with the new wave '80s or grungy '90s dress styles until today. LOL! The Forte offers a better, happier, more trouble-free future for its' owner. Go KIA!

I drove a Hyundai Elantra as a rental car on a business trip a few weeks ago and came away satisfied with it. Solid feeling car, if a bit sluggish off the line.
Feels like a Honda Civic infomercial. Kia is cheaper and is generally way more willing to discount than is Honda. At this car segment pricepoint price actually matters way more than was emphasized in this video
If I was looking to buy a new vehicle in this segment, I would give the Kia Forte some serious consideration. I prefer its overall styling; both exterior and interior. The asking price is significantly lower and comes with a longer standard warranty. From what I've heard in other reviews the new Kia iCVT seems to perform better than most competitors and I would expect much fewer long-term issues from the Forte's conventional multi-port, naturally aspirated engine versus the lower displacement, direct-injected, turbocharged motor in the Civic.

I actually own a fully loaded 2016 optima and I love it. I’m even in a Kia Optima group chat on Facebook with thousands of memebers, and nearly everyone who owns a 3rd gen optima has had their engines replaced. Either because Kia sent them a letter letting them know their vehicles are the ones affected or their engines just went out. No joke. Oh yeah, and resale value is still bad. And some of us are suffering because of it and some taking advantage.
@@kyron2092 Then don't resell it. Pay it off and drive it until it absolutely has given all its got. By that time, you won't even care if they gave you $600 bucks for it. You've used it and it served you for a good long period of time. Unless you're the type who is always trying to "keep up with the jones" then there is no reason to resell a vehicle before its time.
Keep up with the maintenance and don't drive it like a maniac. In the mean time, learn how to manage your spending and take advantage of not having anymore monthly payments after paying it off and save your money for when it's time to buy a new car, you'll be able to buy it cash. Why trade in something if it still takes you from point A to B? 🤔
I test drove both, i liked the civic but i like the fortes interior and infotainment position better. But what sold me is the warranty. I also added the bumper to bumper 10 year 100k warranty so i have no worries.
U added 10 years on the Kia ?
@@rickferr1546 you realize they’ll track 200k miles now a days?
Toyota dealership tried to convince me that Toyota's hold value better. But they never mentioned that Toyota's are thousands of dollars more than Kia's. And Kia's hold value pretty well up here in Canada. So it comes down to personal budgets and preferences.
I like Kia Forte for its styling and what not. The only drawback is REAR SUSPENSION.

"Under the hood of the Civic is the very impressive 1.5 liter engine"
Very impressive? Seriously? After all the oil dilution bullshit that goes with it??
The 2019/2020 Civics doesn’t have this issue, only the 2017-2018 models
When you are buying a new car buy kia or hyundai. Drive for 5 years then sell it. But if u buying a 10 yrs old car then go for toyota or honda
painkiller619 undertaker Why?
And then you have to pay for warranty for toyota or honda.
But I lasted my optima till 11years 200k miles, now just traded Seltos
I’d say the opposite way around tbh
Civic has too much road noise
True
They improved the insulation in the 2019 model. The 2017 has indeed higher levels of road noise making it to the cabin
tried the 2020 yesterday - still heaps of road noise
The whole oil-dilution issue that's been seemingly swept under the rug would help make up my mind, though. Which is a shame.
Swept under the rug? They issued a recall for an ecu flash that diminishes the oil dilution.
For which car
Its Me the crv’s and civics
Don't get a new Civic if you're looking for reliability, look up the fuel dilution problems which will prematurely kill the cylinders

How about the 2021 Honda City?
Kia has really changed their game when it comes to producing new cars and design. However, I wish they would also change their badging. It just looks horrible. A K logo design would be really nice. In our country, the Kia delearships are selling K logo badges. I just wish they can make it official to make this car look really good.
Just bagged my forte 2020 looks sporty recomend doing this
Excellent comparison !!
MIke White Forte get 1.6l turbo later in this year . I have Kia ceed 1.6l turbo with DCT . 152kw and 265 Nm torgue
It seems like the equipment for each trim of the Civic is different between US and European models.
bottom line,do you trust japanese or Korean quality,I'll stick to option 1
Nice review, both of you. I am interested in warranty mentions though for future reference.
Ed Lewis Honda’s ends at 5/50,000 for powertrain and Kia’s ends at 10 year/100,000 for powertrain.
They should've did this comparison with the forte gt
Not out yet 🤦♂️
No this is a better comparison because the 1.5l has a turbo and the Kia has a beefy 2.0l so it’s 👌
The Gt comes with a 1.6 turbo in 2020.
The US News and World Report review aggregate shows that the Forte has a leg up as well. It is currently rated first among compact sedans.
Consumer reports says otherwise
Ima kia boy 100% i was expecting people to love civic in comments seeing how i see them everwhere but i was suprised people actually relise how amazing forte is hah i have 2019 modded out forte😍

They're in the same family so some similar styling cues are mentioned. Relax.
It so ugly and unreliable civic is the Winner

Someone cared to comment.
People keep talking about Honda's reliability yet KIA offers 10 year 100k warranty.
It seems that there are way more buttons and knobs on the Kia's dashboard than in the Honda's and yet the Honda is called cluttered?
Had my Civic RS (Sports Touring) Hatch for two years this month. I flippin love this car, has a stunning 1.5 Turbo with brilliant chassis to match. Personally, the Kia doesn't come close however, here in NZ Honda gas a very low market share and Kia and Hyundai are everywhere despite them being more expensive.
They’re both amazing 😉 cars 🚗 .
The Honda Civic
Is sporty, with a well balance chassis. It will be more fun to drive with 65,000 miles powertrain warranty, and 35,000 miles bumper to bumper warranty.
The Kia Forte
Is a straight forward car with great value. More standard goodies, with 100,000 miles powertrain warranty, and a 65,000 miles bumper to bumper warranty.
Both winners in my book.
That’s probably why their was no winner listed
Forte looks better, drives better, gets better fuel economy, has more features, and has a better warranty. Kia is the clear winner.

I'll be honest, nothing beats Honda in this segment, but also in the mid-size -large segment Honda takes the 👑 crown.
How did he get heating steering wheel on the forte?
Why didn't you compare the Honda 2 liter non-turbo to the Kia 2 liter? I bet you the Kia's engine and performance would have been better. And BTW, the Kia has an IVT, which is the best CVT type transmission on the market. In any case, the $2k difference on a car at this price point - is a BIG difference, making the Forte the clear better choice.
yessirrr
Don't forget the amazing KIA 's CVT
What's with all the hate on the Honda LaneWatch camera?!? Once you get used to it, it is incredibly useful.
Grant Newman I know I feel lane watch is far more superior than blind spot!
The Civic isn’t at all like a luxury car. CVT?! I used to be a Honda/Acura buyer. Now, I drive a 2019 Stinger GT2 and my wife drives the Sorento.

Honda civic has nailed it, plenty of leg room, cargo room and good power but also reliable.

For real? My old 17 year old car barely hit that with everyday driving and a few trips.
So.....which vehicle won? I hate comparisons where a winner isn’t announced. Only Redline reviews does it right...
If you want the cheaper car you go with KIA, how ever that does not mean it's the better car.
If you want the better overall package than you go with the Civic.
You have to ask yourself what you want, do you want the car that will cost less but less refined in everyday driving or do you want the better built car with the better overall package.
Fadic4 the Kia Forte feels just like the civic actually smoother than the civic
yonda ila yeah, that Kia Forte with the a torsion beam rear suspension is soo much smoother than an independent rear suspension.

Forte seems more conservative, and Civic seems too busy
Still buying a Civic, kias don’t last half as long, not to they retain their value aswell as Honda. Long term Honda is with more.
Kia forte is the best
Why not to buy Kia:
1. cheap paint that cracks and peels
2. rust that comes through paint and chrome
3. alternators dying under 50k miles
4. Kia's warranty is a joke and finds any reason to not honor it
5. defective forward collision avoidance
6. engines seizing with no lights/sounds/warnings and leaving drivers stranded
7. headlamps/taillights/electrical components needed replacement at 50k miles
8. cars are cheap, frame is cheap, parts are cheap everything about Kia is cheap
I could go on and on, but the point is: DON'T BUY KIA!! I see tons of
people always praising Kia for being affordable and cheap and RELIABLE. I
agree with the first two but find myself chuckling at Kia and
"reliable" being in the same sentence.I get that all carmakers have
their faults, but anyone that knows anything about cars, and more
specifically reliable cars will not recommend a Kia/Hyundai. If you're
on a budget, I get that; but the reality with buying cars like these is,
yes, you pay less initially, but with the constant cost of repairs, it
will equal if not surpass the cost of owning other car brands, such as
Honda, Toyota, Mazda, or Ford.

(Ward's Auto, 2019) Reliability for Honda's 1.5 Turbo Earth Dreams has been sketchy, at best.
