I like Mike Neighbors the person, he seems like a really great guy and very personable. His approach to coaching is different but man do i wish he would focus on coaching some defense.
It’s always sad to hear when players don’t get along and take it out on each other in the games and practice, but I’ll be keeping up with Arkansa and Taliah Scott going forward. Thanks for the deep dive ❤
However, if I had to pursue this subject I would have looked at the University of Oregon under head coach Kelly Graves. Kelly Graves seems to an excellent head coach and recruiter. The dude has had #1 recruiting classes since 2019 with such great players like Sabrina Ionescu and Satou Sabally. However he would have top ranked classes for like 4 or 5 yrs since 2019 but by the following yr half if not most of the class would have transferred out. It would be interesting to know why his recruits kept deserting his program. I know with breakup of the PAK12 conference this may not be as relevant plus they are moving to the Big 10 Conference
I have always liked Arkansas's head coach I do feel some time the players able to leave when wants to. And those NIL deals has hurt the game. And it's becoming more about money than playing the game.
Very interesting and informative, thanks. As big time college sports turn into professional for semi-professional operations with paid players, I imagine a lot of coaches and programs are going to be wondering about what is the best way for them to proceed.
Back2Sports - This is one of the best videos you've ever put together. It's like a mini documentary. The story behind the collapse of Arkansas seems to be; talent without heart , determination and dedication doesn't equal success. The lesson to me is, recruit players that have the heart of a champion. Players with fire in the belly. Those players may not be the most talented, but they have an incredible will to win. Kate Martin of the Las Vegas Aces comes to mind. It's also why I've been less than enthusiastic about teams who acquired Arkansas portal players. Those Arkansas abandoners have attitudes that they bring with them wherever they go. No thanks.
Let's not go there with regards to "less than enthusiastic transfers". Dawn Staley will coach Dauda to be a professional and she will be a GREAT addition to the reigning National Champions.
What’s your thoughts on pao pao leaving Oregon she turned out to the best player from the portal and the best 3pt shooter in the country and she wasn’t even in top 10 of players entering the portal when she did
i’ve been around a long time + most of these videos amount to nothing but i really enjoyed this. mike got to arkansas + lost his way. his system is a bit gimmicky but he won with players who believed in him + his vision. his scheming didn’t evolve with better players which to me shows us all where his niche is. great video!
Neighbors should be fired if he has a bad year this year. That would be too many bad/disappointing seasons in a row and the summer has been an embarrassment for Arkansas women’s basketball. And neighbors isn’t alone. Kelly graves is lucky this video isn’t about him. He should have been fired too. He looks like a total product of Sabrina Ionescu right now.
One hears Geno complain about it all the time. I think the money has ruined the game. Of course, I think that about every sport as well. It's the big money that does them in. Neighbors said it best, actually: I've got to pick players who want to play for Arkansas.
@@anbro2623 Tru'dat. But how does invalidate my post? Isn't that part of being part of something bigger than you are? Isn't that what "team player" means? The reason the money ruins the game is everyone looks out for number one, not the team.
As a few of you may know, I am a scout and writer in girls basketball. What we saw this year at Arkansas is happening to various degrees at other schools. College coaches have told me it has never been harder to coach the game at the D1 level than it is now. Some have cashed in their chips and retired sooner than they might have pre-NIL/portal. Amongst the college coaches, the dislike of the transfer portal appears stronger than any dislikes they have of NIL. To me, the system is broken and nobody seems to know how to fix it. The current setup seems not to encourage honest communication, loyalty and even integrity (say A, soon thereafter do B). College Division 1 sports is to some extent a reflection of our society. By what is going on today as described in this, other similar videos and American society in general, is this how we want the next generation of Americans to act? I hope not but fear things will get worse before they get better.
Hi Bob, in a lot of ways this is a mess created by the college coaches. How many years have the coaches prevented a genuine transfer request or a coach has left players on short notice for a better job. So it is a bit of a two way street IMO. Thanks for the comment. All the best cheers
I can't say why the other players left the program but Maryam choose SC to hopefully win a national championship and she thinks it's the best place to prepare her for the WNBA . He's chances of completing in the SEC are slim without top level talent he'll be looking for another job getting subpar talent..
I think that’s why all the players left they had the talent but they couldn’t even make the tournament when on paper they should’ve been competing in the tournament same goes for Tennessee they had the talent but they couldn’t put it together
Back2Sports - I just saw that Kentucky picked up the last remaining Oregon State player in the portal, Dominika Paurova. I was hoping UCLA would get her, because they need another experienced guard. Anyway, Kentucky did really well with transfer portal pick ups. Kentucky will have an all new look. It will be interesting to see how they perform with the new coach and so many new players.
She had some key plays in Oregon st win over UCLA. That is a nice pick up. As well it happened a while ago but Lily Hansford committed to Iowa state should be fun watch her and crooks work together. Very curious to see how Amoore holds up Vs physicality of SEC.
@@back2sports Interesting that you bring Hansford up. She was an outstanding 3 - point specialist for the Beavers, hitting at about 46% from beyond the arc, with over 100 attempts. All she needs is more minutes on the court. When Iowa State plays Iowa, the Cyclones will have a better deep threat than the Hawkeyes. Hansford and Crooks could pose serious problems for defenses. ...As for Kentucky and Amoore, I believe they will surprise people. I'm no Kentucky fan, but if I were, I'd be very optimistic about this team. As a UCLA guy, I would have taken either Hansford or Paurova in a heartbeat.
Didn't Saylor P. transfer out of UConn for some unknown reason? She's suspect in my book, one thing I do know is that Geno A. ain't putting up with BS, not even from star players.
Saylor transferred out of UConn because she saw it's ALWAYS about Fudd and PB. I don't blame her one bit. That transfer came back to bite Geno in the butt, Fudd never plays and Saylor is healthy and a great rebounder.
@@RustyLou18 Her situation had a lot of layers that were well known within and around the program, but that wasn't it. She was unhappy for personal reasons, and UConn was a really bad social and geographic match for her. There's more to it than that, but it's her story to tell if she ever wants to.
Transfer portal is the biggest problem. It is ruining all college sports. Coaches can not develop good talent from high school. They expect to play right. Easy to look at transfers. Then freshmen and sophmores leave due to transfers. A never-ending circle of lack of teamwork.
Haha that was very early in the season, nearly half of that class was gone by the end of the school yr. H owever, it was UCONN who ended up in the NCAA Championship game .
Maybe its just me but I didn’t find this video all that interesting. Honestly he seems to have too many students that decided to transfer after one yr at their previous school. Too many students who weren’t willing to fight through the tough times but instead were too willing to transfer.

Thanks!! This is a great analysis! Mike Neighbors seems to be a nice guy, sad that team chemistry doesn’t work out.
He seems way to reasonable to be a coach.
As a Hog Fan, I love this Girl! Good luck Ms. Daniels!

Saw them play a holiday tourney this past season. They were a disorganized mess and morale was terrible.
Thanksgiving?
