Yes it technically is a kids show but there are things in there that children wouldn't understand... like some of the emotions and what not, and be able to piece the whole show together in a mythology like way, I think they do that with a few kids shows so adults can stand watching while their children are

I think Lapis and Amethyst have so little songs as part of their characters. Pearl and Steven, for example, are very emotional characters and songs are ways to express emotion and thoughts, after all. That's why they sing so much. Lapis and Amethyst have a lot of emotional baggage, of course, but they aren't the type of people to open up, let it all out, tell the world about it. That's why they rarely ever sing.
Sublime Donut: that's a pretty good point you make. I think, if that's the case, Lapis Lazuli getting her own song would truly be a monumental moment in several different ways. Maybe finally opening up and letting it out, maybe. I dunno.

I really hope we learn more about Pearl too. Pearl is my favorite character, and I think the reason we haven’t learned much about her yet is because she’s such an important character to Sugar. Sugar loves Pearl because she’s something of a self-insert, so it would make sense that she makes Pearl’s past the most hidden/suspenseful. ☺️

Lapis has not sung because somehow music is something only used by elite gems. somehow fusion and music helps gems gain understanding of themselves, gain the ability of CHANGE. we joke about that all change and growth happens threw song. i think for gems this is litteral. change comes threw songs.
she does not know how to sing, when she sings it will allow her to change. Peri's big emotional break came via her first/only song. gems are a naturally musical creature, but music is denied them to make mental change impossible for them.
i think music helps with physical change as well, noting the corruption song and that their actual fusion between two gem types requires dancing. sure they can without music but it is easier with music.
Pearl was not even able to being to forgive Greg until she had those two songs together. its how they are able to reflect on their own emotions.
the reason that Greg was able to make such an impact on rose was because, as a musician, he spoke the language of gems.
they can explain things over and over and over again. but to understand anything gems need music.
i bet this is also why Jasper was okay with Fusion after Garnet sang at her, she may not have agreed but she understood.
so basically. Steven just needs to sing at people more and all conflicts will be fixed lol
oh yes and to add to that we also see that the most self meditative gem, Sapphire, often is seen humming to herself. humming to herself. trying to understand her own thoughts.

I personally wouldn’t mind it being another Pearl song, I’m just happy whenever there is a new song. I know a lot of people will get upset if Lapis doesn’t get a song or more screen time but....if I gotta be honest, Lapis is my least favorite character in the series so far so I never really think about her.

While I love Pearl, I have an idea which also makes sense: Lars. Its pretty clear that the Crewniverse is planning to get Lars back on Earth soon enough. But lets be honest here, Lars can’t go back to his old life, not even with Sadie and Stevens help. Things have gone too far, he’s flown too far away from what was normal to ever hope of regaining that feeling. At every moment he will be reminded of what he can’t get; (“I feel a little pain”). Escapism could very easily talk about how he wants to get all of space away, but can’t and constantly have to face it. And if Homeworld tracking down the Sun Incineator to Earth, Lars may finally be faced with the decision to willingly leave Earth for the safety of those he loves, or act like he always has done and cower in fear. This would mark a completion of a character arc while also dealing with real- life issues such as trauma.

So glad to see somebody talk about this theory! I live for Pearl songs so I wouldn't mind if she sings it, although I can understand why someone might think otherwise. I think it's possible that the reason why Pearl has so many songs is because Pearl's voice actress is such a fantastic singer. Rebecca Sugar's songs are usually very hard to sing, so it makes sense to have the voice actress with the highest vocal range sing them. Or, who knows, maybe Pearl just likes to sing out her feelings more than the other gems?

I would love to see Escapism used in an episode about Pearl's past! Perhaps she'll sing it after meeting Rose and hearing her views on Homeworld, which match her own? Or maybe she'll sing it and then meet Rose?
I imagine that the scene will go something like this: Pearl will walk away from White Diamond after hearing Pink's plans for Earth, quite distressed and confused about the situation. Then she'll sing Escapism while looking at Homeworld's beautiful yet awful skyline (after realizing Homeworld was once just as full of life as Earth). Shortly after, she would run into Rose Quartz by mistake, perhaps while Rose is running. After much thought, Pear realizes that Rose is the ticket to the freedom she yearns for and can remove the "pain I'd rather do without".
Idk, that's just some random thing I just came up with… Also, I don't really mind Pearl having so many songs. She's my favorite Crystal Gem, and Deedee is an amazing singer! Although, I would love to see more Amethyst songs and maybe a Connie one? I mean, Connie only has her part in "Do It For Her".

What about Rose Quartz? Pearl is an obvious choice, but what if these are the initial doubts of Rose Quartz? Being in 'this awful place' could be taken to mean serving as a soldier for home world when clearly she demonstrates much more love and empathy for all living things. Torn between duty and a desire to be free to explore, she realises she'll have to fight for that freedom and starts the rebellion!
I'm kind of hoping it's a song for Rose Quartz. I can see a flashback with Rose singing about wanting to escape Homeworld and its practices. Besides, Susan Egan has a wonderful voice and I would love to hear more from her.

If pearl sang Escapism then why would she want to show Steven Space and were she came from. People who Have Traumatic events DON'T want to go back to were it happened Willingly. She did not Hesitate to go to HOMEWORLD ITSELF and that's what upsets me. Its not Relatable and it wont give me a big effect because it does not make sense.

Previously, I had believed it more likely that "Escapism" would be sung by Steven or Stevonnie during their stranding on an alien world. Well, those circumstances have come and gone with barely any discomfort to either of these characters.
Could it still be a Lapis song? The principal reason why I doubted that it was rested on the words "this awful place", which I considered improbable...Lapis seemed comfortable enough on Earth, and unlike anyone else she had the means to leave this planet when she pleased. As Lapis has in fact now left this world, she could certainly complain about an "awful place" being her current residence, but since this was her own choice I have very little sympathy for her plight, and hence "Escapism" would seem like pathetic whining if it was a Lapis song.
The latest episode has also altered my opinion about this song being sung by Pearl. Formerly, I thought that the chances of it being a Pearl song to be better than that of a Lapis song, but that was before Pink Diamond was presented as a utterly immature, near-imbecilic figure. I can't imagine Pearl lasting long in service under Pink before being shattered during a fit of pique by the latter. I've long thought that Pearl was a miserable outcast among her kind until she was rescued by being assigned to Rose Quartz, and these sentiments I feel are still valid; but since I can't be at all sure about Pearl's history I'm far less comfortable in the idea of Pearl singing Escapism after seeing Jungle Moon.

I think this song is about Pearl. Think about when Garnet told Steven, "So Pearl could be free." Then these lyrics.... saying free over and over. This is probably a Pearl flashback. Also, when the lyrics talk about how Pearl shouldn't be showing a trace of doubt, I think that means that Pearl knows she shouldn't be doubting Homeworld, the Diamonds, but she is doubting anyway.

The fact that Pearl is Rebecca Sugars favourite character and is still written to have major flaws and personality blunders shows just how amazing of a writer she is.
I doubt it would be Pearl that sings escapism. Based on past episodes it seems that initially Pearl only left Homeworld because she had a thing for Rose. If Pearl hated Homeworld so much that she felt the need to escape, it wouldn't make sense at all why she wanted to go back there to show Steven what Homeworld was like.

I understand that she has suffered from trauma and all that but does that justify her intentionally trying to make everyone around her feel miserable? I don’t think so. She treated peridot in the episode where she left horrible. She didn’t appear to care at all for the person she appeared to have a strong bond with. I mean she literally took the entire barn with her leaving peridot with nothing left. But over all this behavior in a character isn’t what’s wrong. It’s the execution. Instead of her actions being actually harmful to other characters and them feeling mad at her or something everyone just takes all the undeserved punishment without any trouble. Lapis was incredibally unfair to peridot and connie for example and how do they react: maybe a bit agry but never actually insulted or hurt. Peridot never showed any sign of hurt from lapis. At least not the slapstick crying into a pillow hurt. And this is a big issue. I get that they tried to write a abused character but they made her abusive herself but instead of making that obvious and showing that she is hurting others they rather go for the route of acting like her behavior is either justified or not so bad by warping the other characters into a blank slate. Abuse victims can be abusers too. If you hurt people your trauma shouldn’t be a “get out of jail free” card. And most importantly: IF LAPIS CAN STAY DESPITE BEING A HORRIBLE SELFISH HURTFUL ROCK WHY CAN’T WE GET JASPER BACK ALSO!?

I actually like lapis though I don't have trauma I do have depression. She acts similar to how I am when I'm in a depression whole ( which can happen randomly and for an undetermined amount of time). I don't want to negotiate, I'm angry at every one even for small things and just want to be alone in a corner with RUclips. I am a b*tch and know it but it's a part of me.
