- House Republicans held another closed-door election for speaker of the U.S. House following Rep. Jim Jordan's (R-OH) failed bid for the position. Rep. Mike Gallagher (R-WI) said that Republicans were beginning the nomination process all over again after speaker-designee Rep. Tom Emmer (MN) dropped out due to lack of Republican support in securing the 217 votes needed to win the speakership in the full House. When a reporter asked why Democrats, who also had a slim majority in the last Congress, did not have this same problem in electing a speaker, Mr. Gallagher replied that former Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) "ruled with an iron fist," and people feared her.

OK, I looked at his voting record, and he and I pretty much disagree on everything, but I am very impressed by his eloquence, intellect, and decency. We need a lot more politicians like him.
I live in his district. I feel overall he is a good guy but he very much supports conservative ideologies and has not really supported things I have asked him to support. And when he or his office responds to calls or emails I always seemingly scripted and broad responses. Hardly ever how he intends to vote or respond to the subject matter or cause.
BUT...will he intentionally try to overthrow the rule of law?

But I don't think her really cares much about working with the other side according to my own experience with him and his office when trying to reach out or asking him to support what I support.

I agree completely. This guy didn’t say anything other than to imply that the Republicans are more democratic and egalitarian than Pelosi, all the while completely sidestepping the fact that the reason this is all happening is because the R party seems thoroughly incapable of distancing itself from the former president, a dictator wannabe who incited an insurrection against the United States so he would never have to leave office.
This is the issue, the continuation of American democracy or not.
The fact that someone who appears to be simply a decent human being may be all it takes for people in this thread to want to vote for him for speaker is just another data point in how distorted our political judgments have become.
Me, I would much rather see someone stand up for democracy in the republican party. In other words, someone with the vision for bringing Republicans and Democrats closer together for the sake of the country and democracy itself.
Someone like that would have at least the first essential qualification for being speaker of the people’s house.
If it takes another few rounds of the Republicans to realize there is no middle ground between American institutionalism and fascism, then maybe the institutionalists can draw sine strength and shine courage from the last 250 years off Americans fighting and dying for democracy and can work out a power sharing arrangement with the Americans across the aisle.
When the house takes in 5 trillions but insisted on spending 7.......It's been that way since 1950,s .....I don't think the house deserve a speaker anymore.

Maybe they should start getting that clue that they are doing something wrong! Congress is an assembly of the States, not parties, only the States are members of the Union, only the States are members of Congress, only the States are apportioned representation and suffrage to participate in the legislative processes of congress, only the States can form a quorum to operate congress as a legislative assembly, and only the States can vote to reach a majority consensus of all the States as the Union.
Maybe we should start there to solve this problem?!
If we still don’t have a clue, we can always refer to Federalist #’s 9 & 10, “The Union as the Safeguard against Domestic Faction and Insurrection”, which explains how through the Republican Principle political parties and their mischief are controlled in our governing system by design, Federalist #’s 52-58, “The House of Representatives”, Federalist #’s 62-66, “The Senate”, Federalist #’s 67-77, “The Executive Departments”, that should be enough to get started, because I’m sorry, the Founding Fathers did not design a system with this much mutability and corruption, in fact, the system they designed especially precluded improper consolidation, mutability, and corruption, and they did it by excluding factions, our political parties!
Maybe it’s time we started studying and discussing our governing system as designed and established instead of trying to interpret it to gain control to forward our own agendas!
