Fun vid Jason. Grass is always greener, isn’t it? From the east coast and always a little envious of trails and scenery outside of my state. Makes one want to travel and see it all.
That’s my local trail! Thanks for stopping by! There’s more trails in there but you should also check out Demonstration Forest. That’s a good trail too! This is where we see Prototype Ibis, Santa Cruz and Specialized bikes. As well as Pro riders on their off-season. 🤙 Good riding Jason! Now you got me thinking about this bike. 😁
Yumyum, That was great! I get a lot out of your reviews on your trails but it was cool to watch ( and listen ) to you riding the trails I ride every weekend!! I loved how excited you were to ride in the beautiful redwoods. I honestly tell myself every weekend how lucky me and my buddies are to ride those trails. She took you on some of the more fun trails as well. I tested the Ripley last week and thought it was a very fun bike too! Thanks for all of your videos! Dan
dude, you're super lucky to ride those trail bro! Wish I would have had someone to show me the speed of some of those bigger jumps I didn't end up hitting...
Awesome review. I like watching you going down Jacobs but these trails are more like what is around me so I thought it was cool to see the different scenery. Hard to believe that was a new growth forest!
Great vid, glad you were able to sample some great riding in Cali!! And yes the Ibis rider is correct for saying that as rad as the forest in Santa Cruz is just go up the coast to Humboldt and see the real giants!! BTW Utah is one of my favorite places...had some amazing epic rides in Bryce Canyon area and on the border with Wyoming, truly amazing place to live! Keep up the great content brother!!
you should take a huge journey to all of the nor-cal trails. All along the coastal range is great stuff. In the sierras and foothills are even more. Lake tahoe, Susanville, Redding, Chico, Monterey, Downeyville. Just awesome trails everywhere. And if you like giant redwoods, up by Eureka or up near Arnold. Google how big the avenue of the giants are. Truly breathtaking. Nice video btw and the one back in UT. Ibis keeps killing it.
I blame the 34s for her crash 9:21 - I don't think 36s would have flexed and bucked her off trail like that. I'll be there next weekend - I'll be wild in Wilder & nicely obscene in Nisene! 5:41 - you edited out your answer, Jason or Yumyum?
Mo riding skill level is looking really awesome, he is really solid now, like a freakin pro, Go Mo Go!!! I can tell, Mailbox is the trail, that rock section is much steeper than it looks in the video. Its funny they took the easier line to the right which makes sense. solid riders needed to clean this section.
They aren't lying about the trees either, you could do a lot worse than taking a family vacation to the giant redwoods and the lost coast area up north. You are so close to so much fantastic scenery, just a bit south on Highway 1 and you are in Big Sur.
I really need to do that... we leave this sunday for san diego for a few days then up to Disneyland.... kids are still pretty young but a biking hiking trip to no cal 5 years from now would be incredible! Hope the channel is still going at that time so I can document it and upload it here!!! thank you!
...That's my problem with 29ers. Being short with a short inseam, I get buzzed by the rear tire on drops, steeps etc. I feel hampered in my movement. Lovely bike though, and awesome scenery.
dude, I'm right there with you... it's less about the the size of the drop or jump and more about how steep the trail is.. the steeper the trail the more off the back of the bike I am... get buzzed my the rear tire all the time. That why I usually opt for a 27.5 long travel bike that puts me out on the steep terrain better... maybe I'll try the Ripley with a 27.5 wheel out back... the bottom bracket isn't all that low on this bike.... humm.....
thanks dude... wasn't sure how the video would turn out.... editing my usual jacob's ladder bike reviews is much easier than this video... trying to make a story and all..... it was fun though! thanks!
Someone forgot to remind Mo to stay with the group...California mountain lions just love some stragglers. This is a great video though. I love riding alone but, I won't do it much in Cali.
Nice to see you on new terrain, Jason! I’m on a Gen 2 Ripley LS in a medium and I absolutely love the utility of the bike. As a matter of fact, I’m kitting it out for a through-ride on the the Arizona Trail. Can’t wait to ride the new one. My only complaint is they don’t make it orange. Keep up the great work!

Love your reviews always makes me want to get out and ride more! I'd apreciate your opinion on something. I ride in Arizona where it's rocks rocks more rocks. I have a 6" dw link bike for going fast. Now I'm looking for something that is more capable in the technical tight stuff especially climbing that we see out here. (Look up RUclips videos of national trail) I rode and loved an sb4.5, but in the faster rough sections I felt myself wishing for a bit more travel. Sb100 also super responsive and nearly as agile in the technical climbs as the 4.5 but on the rough decents didn't gel at all. Haven't been able to get on an sb5.5, but I just can't imagine it having too much of a climbing deficit vs 4.5. (and there's lots of good closeout deals) the bike I really wanted to try is the Ripley v4, but I can't find a demo anywhere and they're two months back ordered if I did decide I wanted one. So given the terrain here would you lean towards the 4.5 or the Ripley? Maybe the 5.5 (maybe with a more little more progressive tune) may just Trump them? 6' 185lbs And conveniently competitive cyclist has all of these bikes available!
looks light part of your comment got cut off... either way, you should for sure demo the Ibis Ripley and Pivot Trail 429 and see if they fit the bill...
dude, yeah... it was so fun! Yeah, Salt Cycles paid for the entire trip in an effort for me to create some different content and just support the channel. Excellent people at this bike shop you love mountain biking and just want to see the sport grow!
How's the maneuverability on the ripley? In the northeast I ride alot of uphill short punchy steep technical stuff. In some cases trails where they feel like halfpipes where you go down a hill into a trench and then up the other side and have to do a 180 degree turn. I'm just worried about it being a pig turning compared to a Mach 4 SL or a more XC aggressive angled bike
When you mentioned to add rebound to the rear shock, do you mean to slow it down? Adding rebound will slow things down. Seems like that would make it less poppy. TIA.
thanks for mentioning... yeah, watching it back its confusing... I meant, ad speed... more rebound so the shock rebounds quicker... speed up the rebound, so fewer clicks of rebound dampening so the shock is more open. Thanks!
MTB yumyum made sense to me in context. How many clicks off recommended did you do? I accidentally rode with no damping on first ride. So poppy, but ROUGH.
Great video! Great location! I saw that you ride with 2.6 tires, how is it compare to your regular 2.3-2.35 tires? What would you prefer in your own bike?
Ok. On all your bike reviews it looks like the saddle is extremely low in relation to the bars. Do you ride it like that? Personally I have to have a drop (from sale to bar) to weight my front well. I’ve been wondering this for a while.
yeah, looking back that wasn't clear... by more rebound I mean have the shock rebound quicker... so, faster rebound would have made more sense in the video... dang. Yeah, quicker rebound so less compression or to ad fewer clicks of rebound dampening than usual... hope that clears it up?
dude, no stress at all.... the ceo of Ibis is 6'5" and over 200 lbs.... Been riding the previous Ripley every day for the past several years and loving this new Ripley!!!! Do it!

Would love to ride these trails again with someone with greater trail knowledge... I think I'd be just fine hitting all the jumps with the exception of maybe 3-4 of the real big ones. Regardless, super fun trails out there!
@@mtbyumyum Haha I'm just messing around. Yeah I ride this trail system all the time, but I don't really ride the ones you filmed. If you want me to show you them I can whenever, but only a few can be video'd.
@@mtbyumyum I'm in Alberta but ride in BC all the time. Love it. We have some great local trails too. Big elevations, big trees, big rocks etc. Time for a Canada road trip I guess...
@@mtbyumyum I've heard you mention that you like the Pike but it's 35mm and you're what, only about 150 lbs fully outfitted? Probably suit you fine. I dunno, with so many internal options I'd have to side with the stiffer Fox 36 fork, but then there's also that Trust Message to think about...
Ripley, 8 days a week... stiffer frame, steeper seat tube angle, and my local bike shop doesn't carry Intense... in fact, I'm not sure they have any representation here in the greater slc, Utah area... Ibis ripley... easy!
just depends... the sb130 feels like a bigger more capable bike... probably because of the fox 36 on the front. if you have a lot of really high speed terrain with rougher terrain, go with the sb130... I would say more people I see out on the trail would have a better time on the Ripley... it's the better do it all bike in my opinion!
MTB yumyum where would you place the Hightower in comparison with those two? I live in Florida and our parks have a lot of technical climbing with roots and rocks. We have mainly drops for the descends that are also full of roots and rocky. Basically you pedal all day here. I also considered the SB100 but I have a specialized chisel right now and I bottom out my fork on every ride. We really don’t have too many demos, but I want to be able to ride trials in NC and GA as well. What do you suggest?
Yes but under more aggressive riding you might find it a bit flexy.... all lighter weight bike will feel this way of course and most people dont ride 120mm bike all that aggressive for the most part... If you're super concerned check out the Pivot Trail 429
I'd give the 29er a try and see what you think... if the fit is ok, it's the better more versitil bike. Good luck. If you end up going with a 27.5 wheel size be sure to check out the Ibis mojo3 and Rocky Mountain Thunderbolt!
I hear you're not supposed to ride in a lot of these areas there now. The trails I used to ride back in the 90's, when I lived in NorCal, you can't ride them anymore.
Staying Active R A Warrior they’ve never been “legal” but everyone knows them. But it’s better to not flaunt these trails on a public forum. My buddy’s trail got shut down and rangers showed up at his threatening charges

Nice!
Ripley vs. intense Sniper trail which would you buy?
Ripley, 8 days a week... stiffer frame, steeper seat tube angle, and my local bike shop doesn't carry Intense... in fact, I'm not sure they have any representation here in the greater slc, Utah area... Ibis ripley... easy!
Thanks for your reply. We have it too easy these days with so many exceptional bikes. It ends up making it too hard to choose!
Which trails are these in Santa Cruz
you guys went right at the tree. go left!
what trail(s) are these? I'm in San Jose and would love to hit these!
I was gonna ask the same thing! Just starting to explore the trails out here and this looked great!
What was that sound at 6:55?
SB 130 or Ripley?
Which one is more a doit all?
Wondering the same thing. The two bikes I’m looking to get.
just depends... the sb130 feels like a bigger more capable bike... probably because of the fox 36 on the front. if you have a lot of really high speed terrain with rougher terrain, go with the sb130...
What's this tail called?
Welcome to my home trails!
what are these trails called? Thanks
Blue or black?
think I'm going to order a blue one... I demo'd a black in California and have been riding a blue demo bike on my home trails...
Do u think it will hold my weight, I’m 225
Yes but under more aggressive riding you might find it a bit flexy.... all lighter weight bike will feel this way of course and most people dont ride 120mm bike all that aggressive for the most part... If you're super concerned check out the Pivot Trail 429
Ok there Debbie Downer.
What's the trail? Is that in the Demonstration Forrest?
That wasn't Demo it's part of the UC trail system.
have no clue what the trails were... sorry pal
Siiiiiick
thanks dude!
Clips or flats?
both
@@mtbyumyum Nice! I just got my Ripley this weekend. XTR clips for me.
I could ride that trail in a barbie jeep
I am 5'5" 150lbs , 2019 Ibis Ripley or 2019 Santa Cruz 5010
I'd give the 29er a try and see what you think... if the fit is ok, it's the better more versitil bike. Good luck. If you end up going with a 27.5 wheel size be sure to check out the Ibis mojo3 and Rocky Mountain Thunderbolt!
It always kills me when all the you tubers show the worst trails in ucsc XD
Build Ride, it’s better then them blowing up the good secret trails
What is the trail name?
no clue... just some trails in the santa cruz area i think....
You Rocky Mountain bike eats ibis bikes
"trail system" you mentioned in the vid. It's all illegal. Welcome to Kalifornia.
Can anybody tell me what trail they're on, thanks!
Thank you Yum Yum for not naming our trails. For people asking, there are plenty of people blowing it on strava and trail forks.
@@beanburnham01 Shame. Lot of good areas there to ride that are great.
Staying Active R A Warrior we still ride them all 😎but just gotta be aware of what gets posted for everyone to see.
one more yeet or yoot or yoo and I'm unsubscribing. Could live with yum tho
I agree. I hate the trendy yewooh call all mountain bikers do in videos. Like get your own sound. And agree YumYum should yell Yum.
Why is it that everyone that rides mtn bikes uses words like rad, narly etc? Wonder why stereotypes exist?
Did you call a girl a dude? 😳
Everyone is a dude! Girls, guys, dogs
If your fourteen.
@@coreymclernon Maybe it's a California thing
haha yeah... and pal, friend, bud and buddy..... basically all those terms with the exception of bro ;)
Calling her dude wasnt as bad as the jinx of saying she shreds on follow cam. Not even a millisecond goes by and slam fest.
That young lady rides like a professional 👏💪👍
Yeah dude, she totally rips!
