  • How can I serve an easy dinner and a side of bread at the same time? Betty Crocker’s Answer: Dinner in a Dish.
Casseroles are a classic mid-century dish and this is a classic formula: meat + vegetables + cream sauce. But Betty’s got a twist up her sleeve, in this recipe we’re also making cheese crescent rolls and baking them on top of the casserole. Baking your main dish and bread at once is multitasking at its finest.
This is the perfect recipe for a cozy winter night, and can be easily made with whatever you have on hand, substituting out the meat and veggies as you please.
    Happy Homemaking!

Casseroles were a mainstay of mothers who worked outside the home. The marketing may have been about entertaining but the reality was about putting food on the table easily after being out of the house all day.

As someone who grew up with very little money my grandma's casseroles were a life saver for me and my siblings. She would do almost like a chicken pot pie with either noodles mixed in or biscuits on top. They were nice because they used up the random bits from her fridge, they were easy to make, not a lot of dishes to wash, and you could usually get 2 meals. Now that I'm an adult I don't cook as much as I should but when I do it's usually something akin to a casserole but made in a crock pot

I have my Mom's Dinner in a Dish green cookbook. I think it came with her ceramic fondue/casserole pot. Mom gave me the fondue pot, but I choose to leave it at her home until the appropriate time. Unfortunately another family member took the fondue pot. It was a very nice, heavy pot that I loved using. Thing is, I still have the book & forks 😉😊❤

Yes, American cheese is available as a real made with milk and rennet. It's a mild cheese, melts well and works well with many ingredients, including other cheeses. My first experience was US surplus (very young and broke af).
Two just regular grocery stores have it where I live.
It seems strange to me that someone who dislikes a lot of foods and obviously little cooking experience would make cooking videos.
