Jason T, you mentioned that you had tested the outlet to make sure it wasn't the issue. How exactly did you do this with the fuse blown? We have a similar issue with one of our shop trucks, and before we go and replace the inverter, we want to make sure the outlet isn't the issue. Thanks in advance!
Two questions: 1. I have a 2015 Tahoe with a non-functioning electrical outlet in the back of the center console. Is this the same inverter for that outlet as well? 2. What’s the part number for this inverter?
Steven bentzler The inverters are all the same. It doesn’t matter if it’s a 1500,2500 or 3500. I don’t have the part number at the moment. If you call your local Chevy dealer and give them your vin number they will tell you, or you can just pull it out and the part number will be on it. Good luck have a great day
Hi, I have a 2015 Chevy 2500 Duramax. My power inverter keeps shutting off. I can plug something in and runs for a short period of time then turns off. I can unplug the object and plug it in, again then runs form another 30sec to a min before it shuts off again... any ideas?
Not sure about this 2015 but on similar models, those 2 bolts facing you can stay in place. The inverter is locked in with a peg on one end and the oval on the bottom slides over the stud that faces inwards, a 10mm nut secures the inverter to that stud. Saves some time and dont have to remove those 2 other bolts.
So my plug stopped working on my 2017 3500 Denali. The fuse is not blown and I haven't had any issues before! Do you think it could be the inverter went bad just like that?
Hard to say without doing a little diagnostic to see what’s going on, but I can tell you these inverters are a major problem in these trucks. I literally have stacks of these. I would get it checked by a qualified/ certified technician that knows that system before you just replace a part.
Thanks for the video. I have a 2014 Silverado. My 110 outlet is not working now. The fuse is not blown and it's still not working. The green light is Not coming on now. When I plug something in it I hear a slight click. Please advise with any and all suggestions. Thank you in advance.
It’s a little hard to say in your situation. I would hate to tell you to replace a part unnecessarily. Without seeing it and doing a couple quick tests I can’t rule anything out. Typically if the fuse is still good and making a good connection and the electrical side of things are good it will be the inverter. I have a computer I can connect to the inverter and see exactly what it is or isn’t doing. I can tell you the inverters are a major problem for gm. I have replaced hundreds of these inverters and have a workbench full of them. I know why they fail and I have fixed a bunch. I’ve only found one outlet that was bad. Be careful if you decide to swap it out. If you’re not comfortable doing it try to find someone that knows that system. Hopefully that was somewhat helpful for you. Good luck
Cool video. Question for you. My green light comes on when I plug in something but when I try and turn it on (like a small air pump for a blow up mattress) the power source does not stay on. Any idea of what that could be? Is it drawing to many amps?
Ive heard that the power outlet is only good for like wall chargers and such and not high voltage electronics... 🤷🏽♂️maybe thats why i may be mistaken
That would require a more in depth diagnosis, but it still sounds like you have a ground problem somewhere, double check the ground on the frame by the drivers door, should be towards the front door, but on the frame, without actually looking at wiring diagrams and seeing it for myself that’s all I can recommend
Rodney cannon Without putting it on the analyzer and seeing what it is or isn’t doing, it’s hard to say for sure. I’ve done hundreds of these and from what I’ve seen I feel confident it’s a bad inverter. I see lots of issues with these
The brothers workshop I have the factory diagnostic equipment that I can plug in each individual component to analyze all the data and see what each component is doing. I didn’t show it because the average person won’t have access to it. I’ve literally done atleast 150 of these in the last year and a half and I’ve never seen a plug issue. If you don’t see anything jammed in it and the plug goes in it’s not your issue. It’s always the inverter 99.9% of the time. I had one that was visibly damaged from improper use.someone put a miter saw in the passengers seat and when they threw it in it broke the plug.
Worst case if I buy from ebay it can blow again. So if the original part blows and the ebay part blows, probably both where made in china. Only difference is the price....
My '17 Sierra has same problem. Bought the truck new at the end of '18. Typical GM POS. So far have had to also replace radiator (not covered under the recall, yet) at my expense. I guess this is what they mean by "Professional Grade".
Albaro gonzalaz I would first make sure what you’re plugging in does not exceed 150 watts because the system will automatically shut itself down if it’s over that.
Keeman Just for your information, the first thing I plugged in was a ridged cordless drill charger that uses 100 watts. The power outlet is rated for max 150 watts. I was well within the limits. The customer is a construction worker and he came to pick up a bunch of his tools while we were waiting for the inverter to come in so I didn’t have it to use when I installed the inverter. The only thing he had was a cellphone charger, so before you start making stupid comments and make yourself look like an idiot you should do some research first and ask simple questions, but you’re right about one thing, that outlet is completely useless, just as useless as a Chevy you pay between 65k-100k and still get junk. Have a great day
Thanks! Ive been searching for 2 days for a diagnosis!!! All other searches just explain where the fuse is. I replaced the fuse and my outlet still does not work. Hopefully the inverter is the problem.
It It is the same inverter, I noticed you said it was the rear outlet. Do you have small kids? Make sure nothing was put in the outlet causing the fuse to blow. You would be amazed at what I find in those outlets. Could be a couple things causing your problem, but 99% of the time it’s the inverter. As far as your part number goes, even though their both gm vehicles the Tahoe will be a different number than the gmc Denali. Call your local Chevy dealer and give them your vin number and they will tell you what the part number is. Just remember without testing a couple things theirs no way of guaranteeing this is the fix for you.
Part numbers vary by year and production dates, so call your local Chevy dealer and give them your vin number and they’ll give you the part number, you can choose to buy it from them or search for a better price somewhere else.
Call the dealer and give them your vin number, they’ll give you the part number, then you can hunt it down yourself. When you get the number post it here. I have a stack of these on my shelf. I fix the ones I take out. Very simple repair. I most likely have what you need with a 100% one year guarantee on the part
Jorge ruiz Make sure you’re not exceeding 150 watts. Try something else comparable. If it still does it you need an inverter. I replace hundreds of these. They just don’t last
Big crane Craig, the one in the video was shorted internally, it sounds like yours is possibly just not putting out any wattage, which I see a lot of, Basically just not working. If it was drawing too much the fuse would blow for sure. I actually have a computer I plug these into to see exactly how their performing, I can read all the numbers and data to make a determination. Like I say and without diagnosing it in front of me, this is just what it sounds like to me.. I’m sure you know you should be running your truck when using this system. I wish I could tell you for sure but it’s not in front of me. Hope this helps? Good luck
Call gm and give them your vin number and they will give you a part number. You can look into an aftermarket one, but I highly suggest you use a factory part for this issue. Don’t try to save 20 bucks. They vary slightly depending on the make and model.
You have a short to ground. Make sure nothing is stuck in the plug. I see kids put some weird stuff in there without their parents seeing it. If not, unplug the plug from the backside of the console. Install the fuse. If it still blows your inverter is internally shorted, so just replace it. Use caution when messing with the wires. This is a high voltage system and the wiring will have an orange casing around them. If you’re not comfortable doing it seek help from a professional.
This video is super BOGUS,... that outlet is not meant for high amperage power tools like the 1st thing you plugged in,... the 2nd thing you plugged in looks like a phone charger which won't blow the fuse
Just fix mine thank you it was actually just the bolt from the inside 10mm. Wouldn't know how to trouble shoot without this video very helpful.

Does the new inverter need to be dealer programmed for the specific truck or is it just plug and play?
Not sure about this 2015 but on similar models, those 2 bolts facing you can stay in place. I could not find any installation procedures, I'm assuming power to the batteries should be disconnected ?
So my plug stopped working on my 2017 3500 Denali. The fuse is not blown and I haven't had any issues before!

@@jasont7887 Yes the information is very helpful and I truly appreciate it to the highest.
Did you ever manage to fix it? I also have the same problem with my fuze not being blown but the outlet still doesn't work
Does yours work with the truck off? Do you have to turn the key on? I would like for mine to work with teuck off.
Jeff smith
Yeah, unfortunately it won’t work with the truck off. That’s not how this inverter works, but it’d be cool if it did.
Where do you get the converter from. My truck is having the same issue right now.
Dealer sold me mine for $160 new with a one year warranty. You can find them used on eBay for $60

Is the fuse location the same for 2016 gmc 3500 denali?
Rodney cannon

The problem on my truck are usb ports to the left , where is that fuse located ?
Where can i order a new invertor for my 2015 GMC sierra?

can i run a laptop with this outlet? 110-240v power cable of laptop
Yes

Go straight to the Chevy dealer. Don’t mess around with eBay or a used one to try and save a couple bucks. Not worth it
