Awesome video, it worked for me! Heads up though...if you purchase the new Module Package from GM it comes with an adapter for the old harness, so you can skip the entire step of removing the back seat cover. Just unplug the old module in the front and add the adapter to the old harness.
This is the best video on RUclips for this issue. I've looked at so many I can't even remember how many I looked at. Just easy to follow and understand in all aspects. The combo part number in the description is correct, I bought one today. The cost was over $100 though, not sure how he got it for $65. On the new one you don't need to remove the rear of the console. The new harness is only about 6". I routed the cable as he did, under the module then up and around the slot for the bottom molding clip. Also make sure to route the old part of the harness in the grove of the hinge. So, the new harness eliminates the second step of removing the rear of the center console. I removed it before I realized that GM was trying to make replacement easier. So hopefully anyone else doing this upgrade will realize how GM is helping you out, reads my post or maybe this video gets updated to mention the upgraded harness. Below is a link showing the routing of the harness. Make sure to route the original cable in the grove of the hinge. Also a picture showing the holes where the rear console clips into (to help you visually understand why he said to pull back and up). drive.google.com/folderview?id=1vmhabpB3J8mrTJLYYc004u4hhmbUCN6e
Definitely the best and easiest to follow. With no experience and only following the video I was able to complete the installation in less than 30 minutes
Great job. I’m stoked to give it a shot. Really appreciate that you took the time to be as thorough and specific. Also really cool that you took the opportunity to point out possible mistakes that people could have made with the pinched wire, orientation of rubber mat and the warning about the removal of the rear portion of the console (preventing folks from jerking all the harnesses out while attempting to remove it). Overall fantastic video. Looking forward to seeing more.
Hi Jeff, Thanks for the video. I just did this in my 2017 Tahoe using the new combo pack part (gm part 19432813). Quick note - if you’re using that part, it comes with a harness that plugs directly into the existing wiring. You do NOT need to remove the rear panel on the center console, only the piece underneath the arm rest.
Great first instructional video Jeff! My wife just purchased a 2015 Cadillac Escalade with this same charging pad and it won't charge her Samsung Galaxy Note phone. I now know how to solve the problem. Thanks a bunch!!
Hey! Glad I found your video it worked perfect for me and it took all of 12 minutes to swap in the new module. First world problems I know but so convenient to just put my iPhone down and charge. I self-installed in my 2016 Yukon Denali for those who are wondering if this will work in their vehicle. The only thing that changed is screws are now T-20 Torx size in mine and the Gen 2 module includes a wiring harness to plug and play into current wiring with no need to remove rear panel shown in video.
Basically the link doesn't work above for Apple but if you go to the way back machine you can find it. It says, "The implementations of wireless charging in 2017 and earlier models from Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, and GMC do not meet the requirements for Qi certification. These models do not work with iPhone X, iPhone 8, and iPhone 8 Plus." I didn't know that, I just thought it broke - I even asked the service center at the dealer and they didn't know. :O So good to know basically it's a standards issue. This video is very informative and I like the research and the fact you posted an update that you can get the newer harness and module for about $80. I'll be calling my dealer tomorrow to see if I can get it... they are pretty reasonable with prices so hopefully I can just by it from them. Thank you again!
Great Video Jeff! Fixed my problem on my 2017 Tahoe, and your video was excellent in every detail in the easy modification. If this was your first video, it certainly didn't appear that way...you've got a good presence, pace and tone in your explanations. Best Regards, C Parks
Best video on RUclips. Why can't everyone make, clear, easy to follow, helpful videos like this one? Merry Christmas Jeff!! And all the best in the new year!
Great video- I second the other comments about not needing to take off the back console with the adapter. Also, I needed a T20 and a T10 driver. You’ll only need the T20 if you only remove the arm rest. Thanks for the great easy to follow video!
Great video man! For your first you've done very well! I know how long post editing takes. We just bought a 2016 Suburban and were wondering why our iPhones weren't working. Glad this will save a bunch over the dealership costs.
Bodie again, I got the new module in and installed just like the video. OOPS, it didn't work, no charging. It took me at lease an hour to find out the purple wire didn't have 12v on it. I traced down to a broken in one of the original cables, fixed that and it works great. Thanks for the video!
Great video bud, I appreciate you explaining the removal of the panel. It’s hard to know sometimes what kind of wired fasteners they are using and if you pull wrong they break. Good job!
About to be purchasing a 17 Sierra and the charger didn't work on my Galaxy S9. Gonna check the fuse first but if not this is my next try! Thanks for the great info and demonstration!
Great easy to follow video. I changed the new module and not getting power to the pad. Checked hopefully the right fuse and it was good. Read where it may be wire chafing but still need to investigate further. Getting ready to punt to the dealer.
I was just about to bug out .I bought a 2017 suburban and the change didn’t work thanks to this video. I’m gonna try that thanks for the info man that was great
Very well done video. I would echo some of the comments below that the module now comes with a short harness adapter so no work is required in the back cover. I wish I had known that because I broke the tether of the existing harness. It still works fine but I worry it may catch at some point.
Great video! Informative and easy to follow. We’re considering buying one of these vehicles and the charger did not work at the test drive. Now I know why. Thanks!
Great video Jeff - little more video of the removal of that cover would have helped my nervousness - I was was worried I was going to break it. Way easier putting it back on. I ordered the kit through my GM dealer and it took me like 5 mins (after 15 mins getting the cover off)
Well I ordered the parts and just finished the install. It worked perfectly. This is the first time that I’ve ever seen a phone charge from the center console. You are right too, taking that piece off under the center arm rest was tough. Thanks for the great how to. 👊
Hey Shawn - I believe there is a backplate that you can swap for the wireless module but I've not done this myself so I can't say 100%. It looks like there are some wireless add-on kits with the GM module that would imply this works.
I just bought a 2015 Chevy Tahoe LTZ and I don’t know this for sure, but I don’t think mine has a wireless charging port built in the console/arm rest....?? Is there a certain look they have to have? But this video was very helpful to say the most!!
If it has a graphic on it showing a phone on the pad and something that shows to placing keys or metal objects between the device and the pad, then you should have the charger.
I'm sorry to hear that! I've not had this issue, but this video gives you a good idea of the process: rear lift gate struts should not be too hard to replace: ruclips.net/video/WUHSXh6izWM/видео.html
Just got the new module today.. only took 10 mins to change, if that. Mine came with a harness, so I skipped that last step lol got to use my charging pad for the first time today.. I have iPhone X with otterbox on it and charges no problem. 2017 LTZ Silverado
I know I’m a bit behind on this but I can’t tell if the area you’re putting the phone on in the arm rest actually changed at all. What I’ve noticed is that new iPhones don’t even fit in the slot to make flat contact, does making this upgrade make the surface larger or just allow for the tech to work with smaller iPhones
Eric - It is only to update the technology for the newer phones to work. The tray is re-used so if your phone is too large to lay flat then this will not help you unfortunately!
The modification to the pad is not required, it simply helps align the device with the new wireless module. If you are looking for something that does not require an upgrade at all, I would suggest a phone holder with built in wireless that can plug into your 12DC. I use one of these on my vent every time I am in the car and my phone is always full.
We just bought a 2015 Suburban. Where do you suggest buying the new wireless charger for the best price? And does it come with all the parts necessary to make the swap? Great first video!!!
Excellent video. I have a Galaxy S21 Ultra. It would charge except that it is too wide to fit down on the charging pad. Do you plan to make a video to fix this or do you have a suggestion? I have a 17 Denali.
Thanks Jim - Sorry to hear about the phone size issue, only suggestion I would have would be a smaller phone on your next upgrade! There are some aftermarket wireless chargers you can attach to your vents that might be a solution as well. There are lots of place to route a long USB cable.
Craig, looks like GM 84526978 might be discontinued. I saw one on eBay this morning. Not sure if there is a replacement. Could always try your local GM service center parts counter too.
Hey Kylee - What kind of issue are you having? I replaced all the shocks - Compressing the front coils was a real pain so I would suggest buying them pre-loaded with new shocks if I were doing it again. I felt like the new shocks (OEM) gave a nicer stance and it feels much better on the highway... especially with potholes.
Same issue in my 2017 GMC 2500... only question is on the harness all I need is the 2018 harness to complete this or is this a special harness adapter... thanks again
Generally the newer wireless chargers are backward compatible with the older phones so a new module should cover you now and in the future. - Hope that helps
Thank you very much for this video, I found it very helpful, I just recently purchased a 2015 Suburban LTZ and was wondering why the wireless charger did not work. Thank you for providing the part numbers and listing tools.
thanks for the info, I ordered the part as listed and installed it as shown. However pad still does not work, anyone else experience this ? any suggestions?
I believe everyone in the comments who has had trouble generally has gone through the process of checking fuses and re-checking the install and found that it always works. If your phone is too large to sit flush in the pad then of course it may not activate. - Please reply if you figure out what was wrong!
I don't see why not - the OEM swap gives you the same thing in the end.. Some people don't even have to remove the back cover anymore depending on what harness you get. I'm guessing a new cover is quite a bit more expensive vs the module.
Great video!! I have a 15 ESV Platinum, I also have the iPhone X Max, is there a charging pad larger enough to fit my Max? Is there a combo package that includes the module and pad? What site to safely purchase it?
Thanks! - I'm not sure on the CT6... I googled it and it looks to be the same type of module but I'm not familiar with the process on that car. Good luck!
Finally got my new module ordered (chip shortage really screwed me). Got everything taken apart only to find out that the harness that came with the module doesn't match up with the wiring that I disconnected from. Help!
Hey Robin, it is hard to say without seeing what you're facing. When this video was made the newer modules would not fit the old wiring harness under the arm rest so that is why I show removing the back panel and replacing the harness. The newer module is actually a kit (these came out after the video was made) and come with an adapter that plugs into the end of the harness under the armrest so removing the back panel is not required. It is possible that you may not have the right module as you're the first person to comment about this, it is also possible something may have changed since it has been some time since I made this video. I hope this points you in the right direction!
I added this charger to a 2019 GMC Yukon (MAY WORK FOR EARLIER MODELS TOO) that didnt come with wireless charging. Once you remove the trim my armrest underneath is just like the vehicles with the charger added. You can screw the charger right into position. There is no harness in the vehicle so you have to cut off the plug that's on the chargers harness and tap into a switched 24volt source. Infotainment.com has the specific harness for that or you can just splice it in yourself using the purple and black wires from the charger. The other two wires are for the vehicles already equipped so just cap those off. I think they just send info to the head unit display so it can show when it is charging. Mine works with just those two wires attached. You also need to order the oem wireless charging pad. Otherwise just use the pad that's there. It will work. Just doesnt complete the oem look.
I just bought a 2019 Yukon that also didn't come with wireless charging. I am looking to buy a new arm rest assembly (~$330) and swap mine out. I will likely have the same wiring constraints as you. I would like to go as OEM as possible. My vehicle has the Premier package, so I am hoping the harness is back there. When I get a chance, I may pull the back panel of the console off to check. Otherwise, do you have some pictures how you did your wiring? I believe the OEM setup sends a signal to the infotainment system to show when a phone is charging on the screen. Not mandatory, but again, I’d like to stay as OEM as possible. Thanks, Greg
I've read that some iPhone 15's running software older than 17.2 can have issues. This could be a recurring issue from Apple vs your vehicle, you can verify with other wireless pads and devices to rule out the truck.
The issue with the charger pad isn’t just the old versus new module but the silly size. If you have a large body iPhone or Android, it won’t fit to connect to charge.
Great question - I'm not sure. I don't think the wiring harness for the wireless charger is tied specifically into the media controls circuit. I'd open it up and see if the wire is in there.
Awesome video, it worked for me! Heads up though...if you purchase the new Module Package from GM it comes with an adapter for the old harness, so you can skip the entire step of removing the back seat cover. Just unplug the old module in the front and add the adapter to the old harness.
Nick Laessig - Great tip! ... now if only GM would make a nice plug and play kit to swap the RCA over to HDMI!
Nick Laessig I used this new harness as well. Phone charges only intermittently though.. are you having the same issue or is it working perfectly?
where is the best place to buy?
What is the new module package part number? Using the new part, do you still need to reverse the rubber mat?
Nick Laessig do you have the information or part number of what I need to buy for GMC Yukon 17 ? Much appreciated
One of the best RUclips "how to" video's I have ever watched. THANK YOU!
Thank you so much Lawrence!

Definitely the best and easiest to follow. With no experience and only following the video I was able to complete the installation in less than 30 minutes
Hey when you bought the module did it come with the harness you needed. Did you buy from dealer?
Great job. I’m stoked to give it a shot. Really appreciate that you took the time to be as thorough and specific. Well spoken, seem to be a natural in front of the camera , any videos on these gm trucks will go over well with the RUclips crowd
Thanks Ryan!

This worked, so awesome, the toughest part was prying apart the arm rest
Thank you - The arm rest is the hardest part for sure!
Great video Jeff. Clear and concise instructions! Worked like a charm in my 2016 Tahoe!
Great job on your video. You get right to the point without a lot of useless blabber. Thanks for the info
Thanks Michael!

Well done video - might have solved my conundrum with iPhone XS + 2017 Chevy Tahoe. Thanks!
Thanks Zac, glad to help.
Nice job, Jeff! Concise, no B.S. great info!
Great video! Informative and easy to follow. We’re considering buying one of these vehicles and the charger did not work at the test drive. Now I know why. Thanks!
Glad you found your answer!
Terrific !
U are a cell phone genius!
Thank You
Good video. At least I know I can stop looking for settings. It simply not gonna work until get new module.
Great video. Do you know which fuse is assigned to this charger? I'd like to check that first.
I'm not sure but some googling suggests F2DL or F8DL. Seems that it is generally tied to the sunroof.
Great video - concise, informative, and good audio. Thanks!
Thanks so much!
Great video Jeff - little more video of the removal of that cover would have helped my nervousness - I was was worried I was going to break it. Way easier putting it back on. I ordered the kit through my GM dealer and it took me like 5 mins (after 15 mins getting the cover off)
Greg Evans - cover is rough, it is really stuck on there... I may, or may not, have used a bit of movie magic in my tutorial.
Thanks for the video and part number. About to order the part and perform the upgrade. 👊
Well I ordered the parts and just finished the install. It worked perfectly. This is the first time that I’ve ever seen a phone charge from the center console. You are right too, taking that piece off under the center arm rest was tough. Thanks for the great how to. 👊

You can by the new module on line at GM oem parts for 64.99 and it comes with the pigtail plug and play
Thanks for the heads up seems they are getting double that on eBay

Thanks for the feedback Omar!
Could you put a link of where you got the new module from? Thank you great video
You should be able to google or eBay the GM part number from the description to find the best current deal.

Hi, would you please send me the website link to buy the module. Thank you
JEFF never mind the other questions. What is the part number for the module you installed on your chevy. I have a 2016 suburban. Thanks
GM 19432813
Very helpful, great content my friend…
Thanks!
Thanks! My dad just bought a 2017 Yukon Denali and the center console wireless charger doesn’t work.
I'm guessing it depends on when the truck was built for the cutoff to the newer charger, I hope the video helps!
Same
Where do you get the module? What’s the part number?
Info in the description, google the part number and there are several options - GM 19432813
I know I’m a bit behind on this but I can’t tell if the area you’re putting the phone on in the arm rest actually changed at all. Hi Jeff how can I order that new plug 🔌 or the truck has the new plug inside?
GM Part number is in the description for the assembly, I'm not sure if you can buy the plug individually still. - I'd check on eBay.
Thanks, Jeff. Any updates, like a better replacement, so I don't have to alter the pad?
The modification to the pad is not required, it simply helps align the device with the new wireless module. If you are looking for something that does not require an upgrade at all, I would suggest a phone holder with built in wireless that can plug into your 12DC. I have an old I phone and also a newer one on a 2017 GMC SIERRA. Will I need the newer harness?
Generally the newer wireless chargers are backward compatible with the older phones so a new module should cover you now and in the future. - Hope that helps
Thank you very much for this video, I found it very helpful, I just recently purchased a 2015 Suburban LTZ and was wondering why the wireless charger did not work. Thank you for providing the part numbers and listing tools.
No problem 👍
Great video man thank you very much. Do you have links to the charger and harness or the part numbers?
Sure thing! GM 84526978 (More info in the description)
Thank you ..
Life saver... i need it this
Awesome! - So glad it was helpful.
thanks for the info, I ordered the part as listed and installed it as shown.
Classy video for your first very nice job
Great first video....congrats
Thanks Ed!
I'm interested to do this on my 2017 GMC Denali after watching your video I thought is it possible to replace the entire top cover of the box?
I don't see why not - the OEM swap gives you the same thing in the end.. Some people don't even have to remove the back cover anymore depending on what harness you get. I'm guessing a new cover is quite a bit more expensive vs the module.
@@jeffsgora I'm going to look into that, will let you know what the difference is. Thanks for the video very helpful.
Great video!! I have a 15 ESV Platinum, I also have the iPhone X Max, is there a charging pad larger enough to fit my Max? Is there a combo package that includes the module and pad? What site to safely purchase it?
I like GMPartsGiant.com ... as for the larger pad I've not seen anything other than the size in the video. Good luck!
Same predicament I’m in.
Hi there quick question for ya How much would you say this repair costs for dealership to fix instead of myself ???
Good question, I'm guessing maybe $500-$900 but I really don't know.
Good Video. “Thank You!” I have this problem in my 2016 CT6 Cadilllac. Will this module fit my car?
@jeffgora is there a link for a 2016 suburban charging part?
Should still be OEM GM Part number 19432813 - Google will give you several options with various pricing.
Thanks @Jeff Gora
Excellent! Job well done! Thanks for the video!
Great video
Where do I find the new harness to upgrade to the 2018 module?
You should be able to just google the part number (19432813) and find what you need. Info in the description.
Great video! I’m fixing my burban now
Glad it helped!
Great job on this video
Glad you liked it
I just got a 2018 Sierra and the wireless charging isn't working with my iPhone 15. I'm so confused....
I've read that some iPhone 15's running software older than 17.2 can have issues. This could be a recurring issue from Apple vs your vehicle, you can verify with other wireless pads and devices to rule out the truck.
What is the actual module number and connection? I've got a 2015 Tahoe?
Should have everything you need in the notes.
The issue with the charger pad isn’t just the old versus new module but the silly size. If you have a large body iPhone or Android, it won’t fit to connect to charge.
Agreed - unfortunately not much we can do about that in the current design without some significant modification.
What about new 2024 where the charger is near the cup holders
GM has issues across the board with wireless charging unfortunately. No solid fix available as of 09/2024.
Would this module work for counsels with out climate and media controls?
Great question - I'm not sure. I don't think the wiring harness for the wireless charger is tied specifically into the media controls circuit. I'd open it up and see if the wire is in there.
