My grandmother was first female mayor of Islington in 1938.She was also Labour Councillor and a Justice of the Peace. Mum was her Mayoress. They were a poor family. Father was also born in Islington in 1916.
Truely amazing thank you ❤❤❤ for uploading this. I have been a resident of Islington for over 50 years & I loved everything that you put on. Wow 🎉🎉🎉 Really enjoyed this
Just canonbury square Islington and recognised the top of our road where we moved to from clerkenwell. Alwyne villas lead down towards canonbury road which then lead down to Essex road. And into new north road to old street.
Born and bred Pembroke Street, Gifford School, Copenhagen School. Now in California. Would love a pie and mash at Manzes Chape Street. Just watched Royal funeral very homesick. Thank you for the memoriesl
Any on my bit of the Manor: Hornsey Islington, or Holloway Road area? Angel looked like the wealthy part of our borough even in the Edwardian Period, and doing very well, thank you. This was the belle epoch, just before the First World War, when plenty of Colonial cash was around, and many of the working classes were now moving into managerial jobs, and becoming shop assistants for the new stores growing up around the Angel- as seen in these excellent pictures above.
Brilliant video. I am Islington born and bred, now 68 and still living there just off of Essex rd.👍

I absolutely loved this, I lived in Islington for many years, so remembered most of the places in this video. Very happy memories, thank you 🥰
