  • Fishing For Beginners] Fly fishing for wild brown trout. Fly fishing UK. Fishing Scotland.
This is my first ever fly fishing video. This video captures some of Scotlands wild, natural beauty. Scotlands Wild Brown Trout are hard fighting for their size, great sport, pretty as a picture and a joy to catch. All Wild Brown Trout catch and release. Fly fishing for trout is something that I have just started doing again after 35years. Thanks to COVID, like most of us during lockdown. Watching RUclips fishing videos was all I could do and there are some fantastic channels on here for fly fishing for trout, most are American, Canadian, New Zealand and some close to home in the UK Scotland. So are simply too meany to mention but one thing they did do was inspire me to take up this wonderful sport again. Now its my turn to share my fly fishing adventures.
Hope you enjoy the video, as always leave comments below consider subscribing and Meany thaks for watching.

Cheers mate yes awesome wee fish. I had several fish off camera, four GoPro batteries just isn’t enough for a decent fly fishing session. Thanks for the feedback as usual mate👍

Thanks, I enjoyed that Douglas, a good wee film. You had a lot of sport for your day. Ive just started fishing barbless, its so much easier releasing your fish. I just flatten the barb, you hardly every lose a fish either. Keep up the great films. Cheers, Ewan.

Cheers for the advice Ewan, I will certainly give the barbless a go or even crush the barbs on the flies that I already have. Most of the flies I have are my grandfathers and some are over 40years old. Glad you enjoyed it mate and as always your comments are very much appreciated.

I enjoyed your video and I know where you were fishing and there’s plenty of brownies all that size in there but there is some big chaps in there too and it’s fine with a breeze as it’s midge heaven, I see you using your hand to take out the fly just sometimes it’s better to use forceps and you don’t need to take the trout out of the water and if your hooks are barbless it’s a doddle and I ain’t slagging you just saying 👍🎣🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Great video some lovely coloured browns just to add did you know the difference between the sea trout and the brown trout colour and red spots aside .... Nothing what so ever they are both exactly the same fish the wild browns as you call them were land loched many many years ago.

For wild brownies anytime really, but it’s usually harder when the water temperature rises in the summer. I do prefer it when it’s a bit overcast with a light/moderate wind.👍

Great video. Were you using just a single wet fly or a team please?

As it was so long since I fly fished, I stuck with a single fly most of the time.

Getting the bug again been away from it for the best part of 20 odd years same as golf but I’ve no idea what the gear is like now any suggestions I used to like a weight forward floating line as the lochs around where a live are big but others are also small so I’m not sure of a good all rounder fly set up probably spend more on the fly line rods are rods to me make no difference I just get used to them

Hi Stewart, I’m much like yourself when it comes to rods as long as it feels right. I went for a 9ft #5 medium fast action, which I use as an all rounder. I went for a Rio gold elite #5 WF floating line which is on the high price side but I think is worth every penny. A lot of people have said that the Rio Gold line is just as good as the elite and half the price. I put in a link to something similar to my set up but any cheap set up will probably do to get started as you said if it feels good you’ll get used to it but I would get a quality line. www.fishingmegastore.com/fly-rods/greys-k4st-x-fly-rod-combos-4pc~62130.html

Thanks mate my local is Loch thom … but there’s a few sub dams that I hope the general public haven’t found yet up the left over the hill and a rainbow fishery close so I’m looking for both … can’t even remember how to tie on a dropper so it’s full learning mode again just unsure about the gear side and how it’s evolved from back in the day
