Hey Dave! Nice video, very decent snare tho, i got some idea if you want to try It, though you set up the 20 dollar drum, can you make a video using like... only the cheap stuff like the Walmart Ride, this snare and some 12" Floor Tom turned into a Kick drum? I mean, just sorta limited-cheap-travel-gig drum? I like your videos very much and I hope brands still noticing you, keep rocking on!
@rdavidr can you play a double petals? Because you look like a guy who has a lot of experience with drumming and Its just weird because I never seen you play a double petal.
Very curious to see what would happen if you somehow turned it into a tom or bass drum! Seems very challenging... but if anyone would be able to pull that off, it'd be you no question.
What would happen if you threw another set of snares on the drum. Like if you put the two sets of snares in an x shape. What would it sound like? I would like to see this done on this snare so you wouldn't do it to a good snare.
No longer the cheapest snare lol just got this one for $10 www.wish.com/product/58453b32cc78804ee17e2093
Not gonna lie it sounds better than the amazon snare
Cybernetic Husky sounds much better. But still isn’t saying much
Definitely does!
no lie it sounds pretty good before you tuned it up lol
he did tune the stock heads...
I think he means tuned it UP
perfect for St.Anger sound lol
Agreed
I agree
I actually liked the sound of it, I don't think it deserves to be destroyed like the Amazon snare drum.
PS: those grooves were pretty eargasmic
He can destroy this one and get another lol
BarrosLuco
Lol
I agree. That sounded pretty good in the beginning for right out of the box.
Recommendation for this drum:
You’re really good at DIY stuff, I’d love to see a “worst case scenario” video where you bend tension rods, scuff the body, chip the bearing edge, and otherwise totally ruin the drum in a common way. You can use your skills and experience to show us the best way to fix the issues.
“10 common damages to a drum, all on the same drum”
Alternatively, you could do a video on how to make a cheap drum sound better through micing and mixing, in which a cheap piccolo snare would be perfect for
you should not damage a working instrument. its a mucisian unwritter rule
I want you to upgrade the crap out of it, to the point of almost ridiculousness.
I bought it, slapped a remo vintage emperor on it, tuned it up with my handy dandy drum dial (80R 91B) and it sounds awesome. Totally gig with it no problems.
Instead of holes, make it thicker, Maybe addinng plies inside or a different material, another type of wood or maybe some metal
Diy DW edge
That’s kinda difficult stating there would be no connection to the the different woods/metals he would have to use glue or probably another thing I don’t know about. But it would be at a higher risk of breaking.
@@sweatshop603 maybe wood glue and clamps to add more layers (like the 20 ply snares that Pearl make)
That would be a really cool idea to try out. And if you screw it up, no big deal.
This shows that decent drum heads and proper tuning/treatment are pretty much everything in terms of getting your desired sound. A garbage drum kit with that rdavidr treatment is gonna sound better than a $2,000 Gretsch kit treated with mediocre maintenance.
Tell that to Rob beat down Brown, who swears you should get a $600 snare😂😂😂😂
The cheaper it is the more you can mess it up
Cut the drum to as thin as you possibly can and make a pancake snare drum
yesss! Make it so thin that there is no room for lugs on the shell. Just put bolts between the two hoops! @rdavidr
no
😅 duct tape two heads together and slap snares on the bottom...
Or make it as thick as he can
Put this inside the $40 snare.
2:28 awesome drumming
everytime one of Dave's videos come out I'm just like "YES! MY BORDEM IS OVER!"
That is literally me right now XD
Boredom?
Good for you
I might actually buy this... it sounds good and I want a piccolo snare so fuck it... I might have to
Same, I'm dying to have a piccolo snare...
Lol, and I'm over here wishing I had other snares, because I ONLY have a piccolo XD
@@taronsmith8091 same man
I would’ve already bought it but can’t seem to find it on wish.com. Anyone got a link?
Ludwig Supralite is the best bang for the buck, trust me
Holy crap your drumming has gotten better... Especially the stuff around 2:30
For that price it would be worth buying to use as a side snare, just to have a different sound to play around with from time to time.
The drum itself doesn't really matter that much most of the time, Its the heads and the tuning that counts. Also, your drumming just suddenly got so much better. You had some very nice grooves and fills
your actually the only youtuber i enjoy
Snare sounds decent
I just ordered this. Excited!!!
Great video David! Honestly, my favorite part about your channel is the videograohy. I can tell you put a lot of work into it.
d, you getting better and better!
Hey David haven’t seen any of your vids a in a while but the editing is better and quality is better keep it up
Love the grooves. Just got a pearl popcorn snare used and I love it!
I bought two of those, stuffed them with acoustic foam and used them as triggered kick drums on an electronic set. Love it
Fantastic drumming as always.
Good to see you still have it since 2016
I love this guy keep you the videos up
brilliant, as usual!
i really love the beat you did
Put some sanding sealer on the inside of the shell. It'll re-enforce the shell by soaking into the fibers & brighten the sound quite a bit. I did this on a cheap, Sound Percussion snare much like this one & along with a head change, it cracked really loud.
Just opened this drum up as a Christmas present from my fiancé. Best gift I've gotten all year. The lugs need some serious grease and the top hoop looks like it's heading towards being warped but I can't wait to fix it up and throw it on a kit.
You're such an awesome drummer!
Yes! A new rdavidr video!
Sick beats man!
Was about to go to sleep checked notifications Rdavidr uploaded
Love the video man
sounds pretty great!
Wow! Sounds great! I want one!
This snare sounds better than a lot of brand names I heard ,,,,Well worth the little money you dished out ! Thanks for posting .
Medium sized diamond shape cutouts between each lug! The black diamond popcorn snare ; )
Thanks for all the great videos!!
not expecting it too sound that good lol happily impressed
Dude, add tambourine jingles to it like a jungle snare. That snare is begging for a little jingle jangle
that fricking sound of the snare though in the demonstration sounds fricking awesome I wouldn't have changed the things
This has gotta be some of the best grooves youve laid down on the channel. Awesome.
It would be a great side snap snare. Maybe with the Evans MC2 head and a evans thin clear resonate.
Not bad for the money.
I’m going to buy one as a DIY project to see if I can get a better sound out of it. Who knows? This might be my favorite piccolo once I’m done ✅ wish me luck 🍀
I saw this same thing on Wish yesterday and was really tempted to purchase it as a 2nd snare. It sounds pretty good!
I like the sound before improvements! :)
I like that groove
Dang. Not bad at all...
And a frickin tasty grove, man.
Wow, that actually sounds pretty good for what it is. I would have no issue with keeping one of those in my trunk as a back up snare. Cool first groove too!
Sounds great
That snare could have sounded worse, but it didn't. I was expecting a horrible sound, but I liked that
Sounds pretty good! Especially for the price!
Rdavidr: "What to deal with the black snare drum??"
Me: "You can make a side snare."
3.5k. Close enough. Please do the 100 layer drumhead challenge. That would be amazing!! 😂😂
That snare was POPPING
Put a layer of sheet metal on the inside and see how it changes the sound.
Them chops tho 🔥 🔥 🔥 🔥
The groove you played sounded Benny Greb-ish. Awesome vid
What a master piece ;)
That’s killer! Not sure how they can build a drum that cheap and make ANY money!! Love the video bro!! 👍👍
crazy right? I dont understand it either
feel free to sell me one of yours for $31 👍😂
The New Head was probably more extensive than the snare
CAN WE HIT 7 MILLION LIKES?! -rDavidr
mang kuruak you’re just a hater *dab*
mang kuruak Jake Paul would believe in me *DAB* *DAB* *DAB*
Bought one of these, for all the same reasons, when I opened it up, I noticed it was made of 3 plies of soft wood and had no bearing edges (cut flat), So with 80 grit sand paper I carved out some bearing edges in the shell with a round over outside bearing edge. The whole project took less than 2 hours to complete and although My bearing edges would not pass a light on a flat table test, the Drum works, especially when cranked up to high tension.
.............
This is a little firecracker snare once the bearing edges are .... established and the drum batter head is replaced (I used an Evans coated batter head). This snare will do if one does not have the funds for anything more, however remember its very soft wood used to make the plies (some type of soft poplar), so over time it will decay...... Heck for 28 bucks it worth the hardware which one could use with a real shell from soda city drums, and the combo would make an excellent snare for under 100 bucks
China plywood snare $ 28
Ambassador Head $ 15
Soda city 13 shell $ 65 Shipped
$ 98 Total outlay to build a very decent snare drum
Adding extra ply and double the snare throw off plus put die cast hoop on it david.
i think it sounds amazing
Most cheap snares aren’t the garbage they used to be. That’s because production costs have gone down, and the computer aided drafting has vastly improved , so they are designed better with less expensive materials, that are of a higher quality.
This snare actually sounds good 👌
It sounds unreal man 👍👌
Love the intro
SWEETSPOTS!! FTW! 💪🏻
HIT HARDER
Use it as a DOUBLESTACK on top of a larger diameter snare.
Love your videos.
Right off the bat, it sounded pretty darn good, TBH!
The 100 drum head challenge sounds dope
Cool little snare
Actually sounds good with either head although the Remo sounds better. Just goes to show, sometimes it isn't the drums shells. It's the heads and how they're tuned.
That actually sounded pretty nice to add to the collection for cheapo recording
Cut slots in the wood and add jingles like the sonor drum, and add a way to mount it to a Tom mount type thing.
Try redoing the bearing edge, and changing it to something like a round-over. The other idea of adding extra plys sounds cool as well!
Sick Find
Actually a great snare sound. Proof that you dont need a fortune to get a sound happening as long as you know what youre doing
what about making something like the sonor jungle snare? It has jingles in the shell, I think it would sound pretty good.
Wow, I'm impressed I'm not alone, I've just written a comment asking for the same
Have you guys ever heard that jingle snare? I have one! And it was a waste of money.. Can't hear the jingles over the snare.. And if you hit it to light the jingles won't activate at all.. Its more like a snare drum you can pick up and shake..
@@ljdunsmore1 It sounds nice in all the videos I've seen. And making the mod himself he could try to give the jingles more space to move or use bigger ones
@@pedro16797 agreed. With my experience I was better off triggering a tambourine on the snare hahaha and I also never liked the way in which the sonar snare tuned with the single lug tuning system.. Never could get it to tune perfectly. In my opinion it was a great concept but not a good execution.. Think sonar could have done better than that..
Now that I think about it.. It might really help to put a little spacer between the jingles to give them more cling sound. Like the jingles are floating and when struck they actually work unlike my sonar snare..
I love to see that snare become shiny in the dark or something with lights.
it sounds good asf id buy
It's sounds pretty good. Would make a good practice snare at least.
Wow ! It has a Ludwig strainer ! Whodathunkit ! Great little drum , though . I have a Mapex steel piccolo too , although they cost a little more here in the U.K., quite a little more ! Like your videos, man , like your drum grooves and I really like some of those “ mixtapes “ you conjure up! There’s a cool one on the vid where you show us your studio setup which is next up after I get a coffee! Have a good one and thanks
Sounds cool
Make something like a DW edge snare, but just inside, like aluminium, or something
Omg that snare is lit
I bought a Griffin popcorn snare for $40 a while back. The heads, wires, and strainer are lame, but even so it turned up nicely and sounds ok. A few upgrades and people might mistake it for a serious side snare.
I got that Mapex and tuned up nice it sounds really good
Nice, sounds better than the snare that comes with the ludwig breakbeats kit, the rest of the breakbeats kit sounds killer tho.
Any snare’s better than the trash can
ThatOrangeDerp St.anger 😅
Damn. I like it.
Not gonna lie that drum looked pretty good
Of course it sounds good when you set it up ahaha
Musa Tariq disagree.. it sounds better than the snare that came with my Ludwig quest love kit.. and I tried for hours with new heads/snares and tuning.. never could get a good sound out of it.. this snare wasn't bad at all for the price!
your rim rules dude.
