I just wanted to take a minute to thank drumeo for being so helpful for all the drummers out there. I'm nowhere near as good as I want to be yet, but thanks to you guys, I might get there one day.
This video has inspired me to build a suitcase drum kit and get back into playing drums. I'm a multi-instrumentalist and I've messed with drums in the past, but drum kits are often too bulky and not minimal enough for me. I love the broken down, minimalist approach and forcing yourself to get a lot out of just a few key pieces. I can definitely see myself going with just snare, hats, and ride. Less pieces = less space, less hardware needed, and more demanding on your creativity.
As a wannabe drummer, this is a good start like a very good option if you'll go for a long drive then you and your bandmates decided to play some music along the beach or an open road. Pure fun! 💕
This is great. I've seen a few suitcase kit videos around but this is brilliant. Thanks for the tips. I'm planning to build a kit with a piccolo snare, a crash/ride, a tambourine and a pancake tom or 2 if I can fit them. Never thought of using 2 splash cymbols for the hi-hats and that snare mount is a great alternative to a bulky snare stand. Thanks again.
Thanks so much, Drumeo for uploading this. I never knew, until now, that there was such a thing as a suitcase drum kit. Look at that cute, little drum set!! Also, hope to see you guys someday and maybe record a session when I am a professional drummer! :)
I love how people are acting like this guy invented this or that David did.... Neither one is true and they've been around for longer then I can remember. I've even seen people who went up and beyond and made placements for actual bass drum heads. Chill out and enjoy the video guys. It's not a competition.
There is exactly ONE comment saying rDavidr "did it first" and it was posted many hours after yours. However, I do see several comments (including mine) that says this video reminded them of rDavidr and 'Hey! Drumeo should get rDavidr on for a video!" Let's not make general accusations and fake controversy where there is none, ok?
What is even more absurd is that so many seem to think that nobody invented, created or fabricated things prior to this modern video era. If it's not on video...it never happened.
This is a really cool idea! I just get real nervous from seeing that snare wobble. The whole time, I was waiting to see if it will tip over. Fortunately it doesn't, but regardless, I would be really scared to mount the snare like that. I think I'll stick with a low profile snare stand for this kind of application. This will definitely go on my bucket list!
DW makes an ultralight snare stand with a flat base that folds up as small or maybe smaller than the cymbal arm with the clamp used in this video. Or you could use a 50's or 60's vintage snare stand. Those are very light as well and fold up nicely. I use DW ultralight hardware for virtually all my live gigs now. They also make ultralight hi-hat and cymbal stands which would be perfect for a suitcase kit.
Wow! I just got done watching Todd Suckermans drumeo videos and I like this sound much better. I know you can play on cardboard boxes and with the right studio gear, itll sound great. But seriously this kit sounds great. The drum seat snare stand finally gave me a solution to a problem I had using multiple foot pedals. Thanks for the great idea. Great playing too by the way. Great hands.
I have that suitcase except it’s a mustard color. I found it in the attic of a house I lived in ten years ago. Coincidentally also have extra floor Tom hardware and two side snares with Tom mounts in the shells. Serendipity strikes again!
@@trevormacdonald5110 I hope that you write French as good as I write English. I have never seen that from a native anglophone, especially in youtube comments.
that is so cool!! it would be hard without the toms, especially the floor tom, because most of my rhythms require them...but it is super creative!! love your idea...hello here from sunny South Africa...😁
In the '60's, Shelley Mann put out an album on which he played Jazz on a variety of household items including, you guessed it, a suitcase. It sounded great. I still own the original LP. Just goes to show: There's nothing new under the Sun.
Instead of the floor tom brackets and legs for bass drum support and anti-tipping, I'd get a pair of telescoping Gibraltar bass drum spurs and install them on the side like an actual bass drum. Everything else is top notch. Great job !
2 suit cases so then I could play a metal concert with double bass and then have fun thrashing it in the end hahaha kidding, but sounds like a cool little thing, love this idea!
I feel like a vintage style single braced snare stand that would come with a school snare kit would have been a more stable option than mounting directly to the throne. If you get the kind I'm thinking of, I bet it wouldn't be any bigger than that boom arm.
Great stuff, though you could use way lighter hardware.. I recommend mounting a mic inside, just behind where the beater hits, felt beater and use proximity effect and knock up the bass on the eq to get a great sound 👌
Nice kit and sounds. Would be nice if you could somehow make the micro snare sound like a tom. You know like a 6 inch tom. Like change the skin or remove the snare wire.
What if one was to find a $25 floor tom cut the shell to 4" so you could still tighten down the head, cut a hole in the case, fasten it to the case have a piece of sheet metal on the inside of the case to protect the head, See how it sounded before opening up the other side. (can't lose the integrity of the hard shell case). Nice job, and awesome video! Quite the drummer too Bro.
I have a 14" Snare Drum, a 13" Hihat and a 12" Splash. The splash is mounted to the Hihat stand and mainly used as a ride with brushes. And I use a Cajon instead of a drum throne (which doesnt fit in the suitcase). I'm thinking about adding a tom but not sure yet which sice and how
the stand for the hi-hat, should be horizontaly connected to the suitcase, so it would provide additional stability, and also offer holding place for other percussion. That is my idea/critique (but... easier said than done). Nice work. But there are plenty of possibilities - it is interesting, indeed.
I got a bad ass one called the kraken has a cool bottle opener. But I think it would be sweet to make one but make it an electric one, where you could change the sounds maybe with a foot pedal or knobs on top? Kind of like an amp.
I just wanted to take a minute to thank drumeo for being so helpful for all the drummers out there. I'm nowhere near as good as I want to be yet, but thanks to you guys, I might get there one day.

I dig this! You all should try to bring rDavidr in for a video. I feel like he could be good for a drum maintenance video or a drum hacks video.
Yes, we'd love this!
I thought this was an rdavidr video in my feed lol
@@joshraleigh6885 I even thought this video features him
The fact that Drumeo did exactly that is awesome
I find this very informative, as a drummer who is always on the run I find this very cool, cheap, and easy to setup.
On the run, are we? Best put the pedal to the metal.

that suitcase sounds better than alot of bass drums lmao..
Of course it sounds good...it's mic'd
No it doesn’t lol. It is very cool tho
Can you fit a small mixer, speaker and mics in that suitcase???🤔🤔🤔
@Everything so it'll sound as good as his. Lol

Who said that? He made it simple for us. I don't see anyone saying he invented it.
What is even more absurd is that so many seem to think that nobody invented, created or fabricated things prior to this modern video era. If it's not on video...it never happened.

One of the coolest, inspired videos I've seen from this channel! Love it.
I built one this summer totally inspired by this video! I even took it to Detroit Halloween weekend. Flight ready baby 😎. Drumeo has changed my life

Excellent. Sweet little video. I like the attention to detail and nice aesthetic. Clear and concise. Thank you!
More videos with Reuben please!!

Hey Reuben, did you try to somehow attach a bass drum trigger to the suitcase? That would be interesting. :)

With that amount of talent this dude can rock even on a cardboard drum kit.
I don't even play drums. But I still dig this video. Really feeling these compact drum setups.

This is almost exactly like mine! I used an LP auxillary rim mount to attach the snare drum to eliminate the snare stand.
Awesome....I’m gonna build one and show up with it at my next gig !!

I made one about 2 years ago, used a door hinge as the pedal mount. Hot glued some velcro so it can fold up. Cost about $3

Great brush work
Is that a PPP shirt? And... I saw a guy mount a wood block to the too of the suit case.. Looked like a cool easy option for another sound source.
