    You got it right on the first one! ACCO stands for Australian C-Line Cab Over - the original version was the AACO: the Australian A-Line Cab Over

      @@stevesplacedownunder However, none of them were actually cab over (they didn't tilt over), they had a removable fiberglass engine hump covering in the cab. Mongrel of a thing to work on.

      @@dieseldavetrains8988 Cab over, as in cab over engine didn’t specifically refer to tilt cab, simply the fact that the cab was located over (above) the engine.

    I don’t own any trucks at all but I’m always looking here on RUclips for cool old macks, internationals, whites, kenworth, fords, gmc, dodge ect. Especially love the rigs with the Detroit Diesel screaming down the road

    Cab looks pretty similar to the White Compact/White Road Xpeditor, save for the bull nose. Very interesting!

    One of the other trucks my Dad used to have was an Acco 8 wheeler with a UD4 in it (at least I think it was the 4, Might have been the 6???). I remember doing 2 trips from Sydney to Cooktown in that thing in the early 80's. Please please please, can you do a video on that ol' girl at some stage? I will give you a kidney or my first born!! Your choice!! Ha ha! Oh, and I love the exhaust on the V8! Bloody awesome, Steve!! Love it!

      Hi mate, I’m actually watching you pick up that John Deere tractor while I’m writing this. It started very easy.
      I wonder if the 8 wheeler I have is it? There wouldn’t of been to many with those in them. UD5 this one here. I’m going to do one on it mate yes. I’d like to put a decent amount of effort into that. I will need to fix the bottom coolant neck first.
      The v8 in this video has a hotdog on either side. I put the cutting wheel through the old single system and once finished it didn’t sound any different. Thanks mate

      Hi mate thank you. Yes I cut the old system off years ago and put a hotdog on each header pipe, but I don’t think it made any sort of difference. Looks great though

    Fantastic , tuff Australian designed and built trucks.
    I drove an ex Army 4 x 4 in the N.T. many years ago picking up bulls in the scrub, that thing would go anywhere. 3mpg.
    Love the four spoke steering wheels.

      @@stevesplacedownunder Drove a Flintstone up there too but the Accos are my favourites. Like all your trucks , they are proper trucks, no butt warmers and all the other frills.
      No need to take a teaspoon of cement and harden up, the trucks did it for you.

    The old acco butterbox were not bad truck nice in winter to drive but very hot in the summer time drove on on a heating oil delivery truck and ran Canberra to Sydney a bit to droping off pumping gear and oil tanks for change over

    The most common truck around Melbourne by far when i was a kid...from the fruit market to the cement works they did everything...We had the International factory in Dandenong...off the old Princess Highway ...So the wide range of types were on the road every day...Cheers.

      Yes mate I like it too. A lot of our old trucks here of similar size were gassers mate. They produced more hp then the diesels offered at the time. And when gas/petrol prices were a hell of a lot lower than now it didn’t really matter

      Hi mate no they only made it to New Zealand and a few to South Africa I believe.
      There’s not a lot of 345 engines running here anymore, on the road anyway. A few at shows and probably a few out west doing harvest.

    She ran OK once it started! Like the heavy duty wraparound bumper on it. Do be cautious with the step hub caps. I've slipped off a few on those - real slippery in the rain, and purty much lethal if clogged with ice and snow! (not likely there in Aus unless you hit an ice cream truck in town, but just sayin) 8^) Liked the video, thanks again for it. Cheers!

    Fact is with this stuff Steve, its purely the Sculptured Art of them. No matter if it Trucks, Tractors, Cars or anything else, or even how old, they are simply mesmerizing to look at, even just standing. Past the early to mid eighties its pretty well, apart from a select few, utter shite! Makes no odds to me if they all ran on electric of some kind, this stuff captures the mind and holds it with every Nut and Bolt. Projects galore and may there be plenty more, go get em Steve.

    While you worked at getting the ol'girl fired up I did a google search and found this:- What does Acco stand for in trucks?
    Designated Mk1 these trucks were AACOs - the letter designation is: Australian A-line Cab Over. A-line was the assembly line. The later series changed to ACCO, as it was built on the C-assembly line.

    Spoken to the bloke that was the head of International during the merger with Iveco and he said 100% defiantly that acco stands for Aus A-line Cab Over and Aus C-line Cab Over also seen paperwork from IH that states that aswell so you are correct in thinking what it stands for

    Hey Steve my uncle drove one as a boggie drive tipper for Quary industries in the the 60,s here in Adelaide ,it had a 5spd main and 3spd Joey and Perkins 6354 as a kid I thought it was cool they had Foden semi tippers ,it was a very interesting time trucks were all very much a mixture of makes engines gearboxes ,but great fun as I remember it ,that's what I love about your channel it brings back fond memories of trucks I've always been mad about trucks and machinery ,do you know why that old acco,s model was referred to as butter box!!!!!

      Hi Kym thanks for sharing this. I have one here which is the same specs as your uncle drove. Both sides of my family ran them as well on timber. Dad always says to me that he wishes he could take me back to those days and see all the old stuff. They were all things like you said and I love it. That’s why I’m trying to save as many as I can and as I can afford.
      They were called butterbox simply because of the shape of the cab I believe mate

    G'Day Steve , Good to see you in your USS Arizona shirt . Did you say the beige ACCO has 5 cylinder 2 stroke Nissan diesel in it ? I have never seen or heard of that engine . You gotta give a look at that some time. Always look forward to what you show us every week. I like the not so common machines you show here . I learn a lot from you and Pete-mate up in Cairns. Took a bit to get that old IH engine to start. M old man used to call them cornbinders for some reason . Take care mate , talk to you later .

      Hi Scott. Yes I visited the uss Arizona about 8 years ago mate. Great trip it was.
      Yes the twin steer ACCO has a 5 cylinder in it. Nissan Diesel UD5 they are called. This is where even the current Nissan Diesel trucks get the UD badge from on the front of them. The old 2 strokes were called Uni-flow diesel, UD, so the trucks are still called this to this day. Hiroshima Screamer they were also known

      Hi Nick. Petrol was a lot cheaper back then and the diesel engines offered in these sized trucks topped around 120hp where the v8 petrol engine in this is upwards of 160hp and more torque, at higher revs though.

      I’ve restored a few mate and got others to a roadworthy stage. The others are waiting for it. Some will just be part of a yard collection.. got 2 more registered recently which haven’t made the channel yet. I just like collecting it all

      @@stevesplacedownunder Old ford F series and ACCO's seem to get bad rust in the roof. They'd be good trucks if they didn't rust like that. Rust in the roof is harder to fix because its easier to set the interior on fire.and its a big job stripping the whole interior.

      @@lukey6534 that’s right mate a few old ones here have rotted out in the roof. I guess it depends on what they did and how they were looked after also because I have 2 others the same model and they are okay. I have a ford Louisville and they are rust buckets also
