Sewell's effort represents what did and will help Lions win. If all of our players do their job and look for extra they can do, we will be a playoff team. For example, I watched Sewell after one game last year. He constantly gives extra effort. On one play, a draw run, he engaged the Defensive end, and locked him up. Then a safety came on a delayed run blitz from the outside. Sewell, while shutting down the DE, took one hand and gave that safety a shove in the shoulder as he ran by, knocking him off balance on his run to the backfield. That shove literally gave Goff that half second more to hand the ball to Swift on a draw run. But then Sewell released his guy, the DE, since he was already shut out of the play, got out to the 2nd level, and got out in front of Swift as a moving blocker, which turned it in to a big play. Sewell literally made 3 actions against 3 different players, all having an effect, that enabled a big chunk run. So again, if every player were to give THAT kind of effort, as often as possible, we will be a force steamrolling in to the playoffs.
Always glad to see some respect put on our o-line, and you didn't even talk about how great Ragnow is, plus they're all actually friends. Chemistry +100
Worth noting the IOL was decimated by injuries last year. Credit to Sewell and Decker for being able to stabilize and anchor that line. We talk about Lions O-Line as elite but at one point we lost our 3 starting IOL and the primary backup, we were signing guys off waivers and the practice squad to start for us.
Not only is Penei an Elite RT, that one-handed catch for a game winning 1st down vs. the Vikings was LEGIT. The formation of the play and the motion he ran was Brilliant. Look for OC Ben Johnson to scheme him into the offense more this upcoming season in the pass game and run game.

The draft seemed odd this year. First two picks were really confusing. Then I remembered Holmes has been a wizard since arriving in Detroit with picks like Sewell, St. Brown, Rodriguez, Joseph, the list goes on. He's nailed nearly every pick he's made.
Tends to happen with generational-tagged players who disappoint somewhat in their rookie year, or are overshadowed by a peer from the same class. Happened with Chase Young (disappointed) and Sewell (Slater) Sewell is legit
@@raystonge154 He wasn't overshadowed and is not. Slater was better rookie season. Both Franchise Tackles and will both likely be ELITE this season. Sewell already 2nd Best RT in league since Wirfs is moving to LT this season.
Slater was the more NFL ready player coming out the Draft but Sewell was only 20 years old when he got drafted and had the higher ceiling. Look at them in 5 years and see who the better player is.
Again not saying he's not a top 3 tackle. But again, he plays for the Lions, people will discredit him and pretend he's not as good simply due to that fact. To this day people try to discredit Barry fucking Sanders AND Calvin Johnson simply because they played for the Lions. Always have excuses and say yea, but its Detroit. Hey Detroit Fan base.... don't take the Lions O. Line for granted! They truly are remarkable. And, our 7th round pick at 152 overall Colby Sorsdal will no slouch either! On draft night you couldn't find much on Colby, he's 6'6" and at 305lbs he'll be no easy take. He's out of Williams & Mary College, he blocks like a freight train coming at you. He needs to develop his technique to handle NFL D.Linemen but the Coaching Staff at Detroit will be all over that.
You got that right.... and with the pickup of Gibbs and Montgomery, look out! It's a shame about Jamo suspension but the last pick of the Draft round 7, 219 overall WR Antoine Green out of N.C. is a reel pickup, he should have went much earlier. He'll need a bit to get up to speed for the NFL but he'll do great.

On the Rep against Reddick I think Reddick is playing the decoy in order to draw Penei outside. this allowed more space for the Safety and LB blitz through the C gap. The 3T also works inside for this as well.*
Agreed Sewell should have picked up one of the two blitzers and rb needed to get the other. Reddick was further outside and should have only got a punch if he blitzed as well
I don’t think that was an error by Hassan Reddick. He bent way outside to draw Sewell outside so the blitzing CJGJ would have a 1 on 1 vs the blocking RB and it worked leading to a bad throw by Goff
