Watching this back 3 years later as a Lions fan shows me how far Penei has come and gives me confidence for the later round offensive linemen we’ve drafted. I can totally see why you thought guard was a good spot for him but they allowed him to take his lumps and grow at right tackle and now he’s one of the highest paid guys and an all pro. And with this most recent draft just passing I believe this path you laid out here is what Detroit is gonna do with Manu. Because right now you have Sewell and Decker, you can get Manu using his big frame and strength on the interior learning the right sided footwork and developing his hands and when Decker ages out you have Sewell and Manu as the left and right tackles. I don’t know what the LG and center spot would look like, but a maxed out potential Sewell, Manu and Mahogany would bully the hell outta people.
With Penei Sewell’s physical gifts, he would make a dominant tackle in the NFL. He is more than capable of perfecting his footwork and point of contact.
If the season ended today, we'd have the 3rd overall pick. And since Trevor Lawrence and Justin Fields are basically locks to go 1st and 2nd overall, we could get Sewell. Then have him compete with Jonah Williams and Bobby Hart for the starting LT and RT jobs, and whichever one loses will move to guard. Much better!

I totally agree on him being a better guard than tackle in the league
voch more i watch him the more i agree with your view of moving him inside. dude mauls in the run game, plays with good technique, but he pass blocks like a interior dude
Guards are great. That said, Penei was "projected" as a guard coming out of HS as well. Fast forward 1 year later he was a 1st team freshman All-American(w/ him missing half tge season to injury) & then as a true sophomore he was a unanimous 1st team All-American, the highest graded tackle by PFF since their inception(it honestly wasn't even close) and of course he won the Outland Award given to the best lineman(offense/defense) in CFB. I'm not saying you're wrong about your eval, but it seems there was more criticism coming from this video than praise. It's literally the first video I've seen that there was more criticism than praise of Sewell & I've watched a ton of these break down videoes. Is he perfect? Of course not; no OL is, but there's been retired NFL scouts comparing +his film & collegiate career to O. Pace, J. Thomas, J. Long, etc, etc...And the fact that he has had all these accolades as just a true sophomore suggests he's just scratching the surface of his potential & ceiling. Funny because a lot of similar social media vids said his little brother Noah wouldn't be able to play linebacker in college & that he would have to add weight & play DL. Noah has looked like a freak of an ILB. He moves so well at 260 lbs. A lot of these same videoes projected Herbert to be a "project" or a "bust" and that it would take him years in the right situation to find success. Here we are today w/ Hebert setting all kinds of rookie QB records and the clear frontrunner for OROTY. He has played much better than Burrow & Tua. Anyway, It's odd that a lot of the stuff that was being critiqued in this video has been said to be Penei's strengths by other eval films & scouting tape. And he's proven his play against some very good future/current Sunday guys. He was assigned 2nd rd pick Marlon Davidscon of Auburn. Penei dominated him. When Davidson was asked who the best OLmen he faced in college was his answer was Sewell. And Davidson faced tackles from Bama, UGA, LSU, A&M, UF... Auburn lined up 1st rd/top 10 pick Derrick Brown on Penei twice & Penei beat him twice. Auburn didn't line Brown up at DE again. At least not against Penei. Hmm? Sewell was also responsible for blocking Auburn's DE/OLB hybrid, Big Cat Bryant st times. Sewell took him to school. Big Cat Bryant is projected as a draftee as well. Sewell dominated 1st team All-American/draftee Bradlee Anae as well. Anae was one of the Nations leaders in sacks with 13.0 in '19. Sewell will be a tackle in the league & a very dominant one. I have zero doubts in my mind.
I don’t think he has trouble in space-it’s what to do after contact that he struggles with. It looks like he is more worried about LOSING than concentrating on winning.
Let’s go ahead and debate if he’s a generational talent? If so what makes him better than Andrew Thomas, Becton, willis, or Wirfs? What makes him the best tackle prospect to come out since Tunsil/Stanley
Not sure if he’s generational at tackle but as a guard looks like he can be in the big Q mold not as strong as Quenton but more Athletic. I think Tyron was the best tackle of the last decade because of the complete package(size, strength, athleticism). Tunsil was the next best thing to Tyron, but I think Tunsil’s footwork and ability to work in space made him better suited on the outside than Sewell at the same stage of development. However, if Sewell polishes his technique his potential is higher than Tunsil just based off how good he is already and his natural physical gifts.
Being a Falcons fan I agree. I would love to get him at 4 and play him at guard until Matthews becomes movable, refine his technique and then move him to left tackle. Foot work is to sloppy in this breakdown. NFL players will take him to school on either side of the line. A little coaching could go a long way with him.
Enjoyed the video as always. Just wondered where do you get the coaches film for all these college games? I'm looking to do some videos for OL and this sort of stuff would be a lot better than normal game angles. Thanks.
He just made Detroit's O line top 10, maybe top 5. Put him at RT as a rookie to learn the speed of the game and learn some technique form Detroit's o line coach. Then move Decker over to RT and plug in Sewell at LT. If he's this good at LT imagine the dominance at RT when Detroit can finally run tot the right side.
I put his negatives down to lack of technique and stamina issues, a guy that big that moves that quick you gonna get a trade off somewhere. sustainability of high output is what Sewell needs to work on.
I love the IOL haters. As a Dolphins fan I have watched over a decade of bad G play and people who think guards dont matter or arent valuable dont understand Oline play. Not only do guards do the dirty work in the run game they are also the fastest way to the QB and must give the QB a pocket to step up in. They also have to be intelligent to watch for blitzes and stunts. The way you have scouted Sewell describing his hitches in space but power and length inside remind me of how Erek Flowers has become a legit G after being terrible at T. They are different players for sure but the point remains, G play is important as well and if it suits a guy better, he should play there. Also Thuney is making 15 mil a year so nothing to be ashamed of.
Voch, I don't know if you gonna see this. I'm not a lineman but I went back and watched steel, is it me or is Terrence Steel more like a guard? Seem where he runs into problems is when he have to kick out but plays well in small space.
he looks to be so fast out of his stance that he stops and is waiting for the d end to catch up and get to him , he just needs to attack at all times and dominate
You do understand that in Pass Pro, you don't move forward and attack, you back peddle and form a pocket. If no one comes at the QB from that area, your head may be on a swivel, but there may not always be someone to catch, let alone "hit". Also, pulls, traps, draws... OL don't just move up and "hit that dude".
im not askin Sewell to go forward, even though in some pass sets you go forward. im asking him to punch/Deliver a blow, to slow his opponent down. Youre not strong when you catch people
If we got pick 2 I think we should trade down to pick 5 or 6 and try to pick up a second round pick and maybe more. We would still be able to get a really good player.
@@robhost4271 yep. That’s what I’m thinking I did a mock draft and I had us with Patrick Surtain round one at pick 6 from trading down. Then I got us OT Jackson Carman and DT Jaylen Twyman in Round 2. Then go Safety round 3.
I can't wait until he's blocking for my Bengals & Burrow next season. That gives us two bookends for a longtime!! The scary thought is that you see what hes doing with no offensive line.
What u think about him being on the giants as a LT and Andrew Thomas on the right? Idk what the hell columbo teaching him but his recovery and hand placement is trash
If Sewell takes the LT spot, then Thomas will probably become one of the guards. There is no way he is beating Peart for RT. Peart is taller, has longer arms, is stronger, and has quicker feet then Thomas. Far and away the better tackle prospect of the two.
Defense defense defense. I would not touch offense. Yes we need oline but we also have to many holes to fix in one offseason. But we have not invested on the defense enough. Always hoping that a often injured guy that we get later in the rounds can stay healthy or take a chance on a guy with issues. We need a bona fide starter and impact player preferably on dline
love your videos bro don’t hesitate to critique players just because of the snowflakes and meat riders who don’t wanna see anything but highlights. this is how you evaluate film
I don't see where you're saying he's stopping his feet. He keeps them dancing throughout. Some of the plays you're criticizing his feet were actually designed to put the defender where he did. One problem with trying to initiate a hit instead of catching a block is that the O lineman will get out over his toes if the defensive player knows the tackle is going to go for a hit instead of a proper block. Pull him off balance. The problem with saying he should play guard first is that it's just wrong. You're not noticing that every time he does make a technique mistake, the next time that situation come up he has fixed it. Putting him at guard would be a waste of talent for 3 or whatever years. Notice he gets better with every game.
really pleased!
Definitely like to hear what Voch says about draft prospects, I think he’s the best at evaluating O lineman on RUclips!!!!

Spot on take right here

Nobody was on Tunsils level. The only guy I had close was Taylor Lewan.
Great analysis!
Welcome to Miami Dolphins uso
Damn.....were at this point already!
OKAY VOCH HERE WE GOOOOOOOOOO
Being a Falcons fan I agree. I would love to get him at 4 and play him at guard until Matthews becomes movable, refine his technique and then move him to left tackle. Foot work is to sloppy in this breakdown. NFL players will take him to school on either side of the line. A little coaching could go a long way with him.
Draft time, Voch? 😂😂 everyone’s over it...
BEAST! Has the ability to play LG, must draft him if he is available. Also, future replacement for Tyron when he retires at LT.
Not overly impressed with engaging DEs. He's actually scary what he's giving up. Definitely Guard and looks better in moving and pushing.
Living in Portland Oregon got to watch him his whole time at Oregon
Most of the film you are showing, is him as a true freshman at Oregon. The dude is definitely gonna be a dawg in the league.
Nope all last year
@@VochLombardi you right. Thanks for responding. Keep up the good work bro!
I put his negatives down to lack of technique and stamina issues, a guy that big that moves that quick you gonna get a trade off somewhere. sustainability of high output is what Sewell needs to work on.
Him and Becton on the Jets Oline would be fun to watch.
Yessir! Going to help us get over losing Lawrence in a hurry. Like by tomorrow morning
@@octonolite_0 He's going to Bengals.
@@burrowthechurro you mean miami
@@Theswitchy1 Bengals will trade their picks to move up in the first round to grab him.
Do you think Sewell is strictly a LT or do you think he can flip sides?
Sewell is beast idc about that cause I think if a team can’t teach like 1 little nuance then they don’t deserve a great tackle.
Six tall and 300 big as hell pounds 😂😂😂 your analysis is the best brother!! Keep goating. 💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾 bunch off ass whoop this video.
Guard would be perfect position...the guy is so athletic and violent he’ll be Inside linebackers worst nightmare...
Do u have a film study on Zaven Collins out of Tulsa? Kid a beast
voch what do u think about David Moore the O Lineman from Grambling State played at the senior bowl
I'm looking at a future HOF
Why not investigate the top prospects then determine if Dallas could use them?
Voch, do you post your voch’s voice podcasts on RUclips or only on podcast streaming apps.
Would love to see him on the chargers him and herb👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
Draft him!!!
Yeah... get Wyatt Davis at guard and a CB in the 1st round. And a safety and DT in the 2nd
@@robhost4271 yep. That’s what I’m thinking I did a mock draft and I had us with
Patrick Surtain round one at pick 6 from trading down.

@Original6Productions
The Cowboys winning the division still because they'll go on a run soon
What u think about him being on the giants as a LT and Andrew Thomas on the right? Idk what the hell columbo teaching him but his recovery and hand placement is trash
If Sewell takes the LT spot, then Thomas will probably become one of the guards. There is no way he is beating Peart for RT. Peart is taller, has longer arms, is stronger, and has quicker feet then Thomas. Far and away the better tackle prospect of the two.
@@Grindor225 i agree Thomas & Peart are longer and just as athletic
@@Grindor225 that'll indicate Thomas was pretty much a bust if he gets beat out by a 5th round pick
Check out other OTs In Alex Leatherwood from Alabama and Samuel Cosmi from Texas as well.
I love leatherwood!
Dude looks like a tyron clone from here, specally when hes in his stance! Dam!!!!
Yeah. Almost the same size too
Please Chargers trade up and reunite Penei Sewell and Justin Herbert back together again! "Reunited and it feels so good!"
That man is smooth on his feet. I bet he could do the moonwalk if he wanted to.
look at the left g, he looks good
He's on the Giants
Shane
He’s a better version of Tristan Wirfs IMO
We need him to replace Tyron.
Keep both 👀
Yeah, but if the season ended now, my Bengals would be the ones to ruin - i mean, take - him...
