    These videos are great and have saved me a lot of time with sorting out my V70 Bi-Fuel.It had various problems when I bought it second hand but I have used these videos to sort it and the attest is oil pressure warning that has now cleared by running the engine to warm it but good to know potential cases of the warning so now there are also no fault codes so guess its the sticky sensor but with warmer weather due it should be good to go now

    The oil pressure light comes on, 99 V70 cross country AWD. The level is full. 172,000miles runs OK, no DTC's. Head gasket seems fine. What do you think Robert? Do l need to pull the oil pan and replace the seals, clean pickup? 👍Always Great content!

    I thought those two green seals were oil return ports from the engine block. The oil pickup seal is orange and around that oil pickup tube which is seated in the block.

    Just dropped a motor in my 2006 s40i. Runs terrific been driving it a good 3 weeks, about 400 miles so far. Twice in the last week the oil light has flickered on when idling. Give it gas it goes away. Only done this on 2 occasions otherwise it runs normal, no oil light coming on. Any ideals. Also if this is related or not, the AC blows ice cold while driving but when idling it blows just air. Hit the gas and instant cold air again. Didn’t own the car before replacing the engine. Bought it and dropped the motor in it and been driving as a daily driver since with just these 2 issues. Oh, one more question, replaced all the O2 sensors ( up and downstream) still getting a bad downstream code. Thoughts please

    • @RobertDIY
      @RobertDIY  Год назад

      what is the idle speed? If it's low, that can be the cause of the low oil pressure light, if idle is normal, over 700, you should NOT be getting that light, drop the pan. The AC probably cuts off during low idle situations.

    • @keithcarroll9146
      @keithcarroll9146 Год назад

      @@RobertDIY it has only happened twice. Each time at idle, foot on the brake sitting. Goes away as soon as you give it the slightest press of the gas pedal. Driven it since and can’t get it to do again but haven’t went far from home out of fear something might be wrong. Bought a new oil sensor that I’ll install in the next few days. Thanks for you help. Hopefully it’s just a sensor.

    Hi Robert,
    I got my oil pan replaced about two weeks and half ago. It seems the guy did a bad job. It is leaking and I lost all my oil about two weeks after the replacement. I went to another garage and this one identified the leaks, but it seems he thinks some kind of gaskets are missing. It is a Volvo V70 2.5T 2005. The engine is having only 30 000 km, it has been replaced no charge by Volvo a couple of years ago on extended warranty.
    After viewing your video, it seems the first guy is right, there is no gaskets. So, why are the connections on the side of the pan are leaking? Missing some seallant? Is the whole pan removal required to fix this?

    • @RobertDIY
      @RobertDIY  7 лет назад

      There are gaskets in the oil pan edge, as seen at 3:14. Your car may have more. The pan does not have gasket. As long as they didn't bend the pan, it should seal good. If it is leaking, the pan will have to come down. Usually those pans NEVER leak, usually the seals in the timing belt cover leak.
      Hopefully the engine is not damaged because you ran low on oil. You couldn't hear the difference? Did the low oil level or pressure light come on?

      The red light came on. Fortunately I was near a Walmart, so I checked the oil and saw I had no more oil. I checked under the car and saw the oil was leaking very slowly. I went to Walmart and bought a gallon of oil and refilled. I was able to get back to home.
      Since I am hearing impaired, no, hearing the difference is a no-no.

    • @totoleheros7506
      @totoleheros7506 7 лет назад

      BTW, I wasn't talking about these seals. The engine is nearly new and these should be just fine. The problem is not with a low oil pressure, it is actually a leak or many leaks.

      No. If the engine is locking up due to low oil it may crank slower due to binding.

    hey robert, i just cracked my oil pan and the shop wanted 2000 dollars to replace it.... i thought no way!
    so two questions.... first one, do you know if the oil pan is made of steel or aluminum? because i might just get it welded once i remove it and save the 700 dollars for a new oil pan, the crack is fairly small.
    secondly, ill be removing this oil pan while under the car that will be set on jack stands,
    is it a pretty straight forward removal?
    just pop the bolts out and drop the pan straight down?
    my car is currently parked somewhere and I'm getting it towed to a place i can work on it tomorrow.
    thanks,

      Yes, thats how I knew that the pvc system needed some work. What Iam talking about is that after you take the breather box out and you clean the holes in the engine block, I took compressed air thru the bottom hole and I did not get any air coming out thru the filler cap. They say that you have to drop the oil pan to clean the passage. Iam asking you if i can clean it without dropping the oil pan. Robert can you help me? I've got a 96 850T wagon and the driver's side wiper arm is fussy. It lifts off the windshield half way up its arc. I swapped out the arms because the passenger side wiper worked fine. And still have the same issue. Could there be a piece missing from the drive bolt? Thank you sir. I'm gonna tackle the cv axles in about a week's time after watching your video. And I won't get under the car with that flimsy jack, will use proper stands.

    • @turbobrick9073
      @turbobrick9073 8 лет назад

      +John Malik I've seen two problems here, either the nut works loose that holds the wiper arm to the shaft, or the wiper arm needs to be replaced. I do not think drivers and passenger are interchangeable. You might be able to put more of an arch in the arm by bending it, to temporally fix it while you source a new wiper arm.

    Robert: I like and review your Volvo :"How-To" U-Tube Videos before and DURING all my DYI repairs. Several Special Interest Comments: (1) I rarely performed a low-experience situation without time extentions caused by simple things like hard to access, stuck bolt. And, I think to myself that a great deal of prep. work must have been performed prior to filming and videos have edit to shortening repair time, For me, and maybe for other DYI people, a breakdown of anticipated actual repair time (and mention of procedure complications that may increase the novice time, would be meaningful. (2) Today, in street clothes, I tried to do a quick favor and dropped a wrench onto the plastic dipstick pull ring if a 2008 Volvo S60 motor. . OOPS: Trying not to get dirty under the car, I attempted to remove the dipstick tube. Obviously, the dipstick tube is not just pressured-in with an O-ring. I could not find even one demo of how to remove the oil dipstick tube for the specific car. Going to require work cloths to get under the car (#!@#%$). I found - Many, Many videos about using a dry wall scred to bore into the remaining piece of stem in the tube. Never worked for me. I find that the hard brittle plastic of a handle which broke too easily is to0 hard and brittle to bore. My quick fix is to remove the dipstick tube, push the old dipstick up and out; then, replace the tube. (3) Maybe you could create a video on the subject of how to remove dipstick tubes on various model Volvo.

    • @RobertDIY

      I always mention pit falls in my DIY videos. I also list time and cost estimates in the description remarks.

      One bolt on the dip stick tube removes the dipstick. It bolts right on the front of the intake manifold, hard to miss. Most videos that show doing the PCV job shows removing the intake manifold and oil dip stick.
      I have been making Quick Tip videos like that lately.

    The engine doesn't like running on an oil milkshake. It won't take much time before the bearings are eaten up. I hope you caught it in time to save the engine. This demonstrates the importance of having a thorough mechanical inspection after any accident. Take the car to your mechanic first and the body shop second.
