As Leslie said, all of the vocals, including the "humming choir" in the bridge, are Avi. He also does effects vocally, aside from a bit of organ and tambourine in the bridge.Oh, and the people around the fire are , as it were, just props, and they accompany him on the torch march through the forest. (A side note - the interior shots were all done in Avi's cabin in the woods near Nashville.) As a solo songwriter/performer, Avi is becoming known for the layering he does in his songs. My favorite example of this is his original "Get Down", which starts out simple, but adds more layers as the song progresses. Avi has a very nice 5 octave range plus he is a polyphonic overtone singer, (the ability to sing two notes at once. He is a prolific song writer but this song is a bit aggressive to most of his songs. He was totally broken when the left PTX and most of his work now, sooths the soul. Before he left PTX, he formed an A Capella youth choir with students from all over the world. He was the brain child and added to other men to the group a "daddies. He raises money every year to fund those who cannot afford to come but are well qualified vocally and musically. Below is a song he wrote, being performed by A Capella Academy. This would not necessarily be for a public reaction but to give you an idea as to his heart and what he has accomplished. If you are still active at all Avi "ahh vi' Kaplan "cap land" is going to release a new 11 track record May 20th. He is a singer-songwriter so almost everything he does are his own compositions. The exceptions are easier to list - Lean On Me, House of the Rising Sun and Hey Ya! This one is used for the weekly podcast Relative Unknown's theme music and in the tv programs Resident Alien and the U.K. one Love Island. Another one Chains has shown up on the Blacklist.
Avi has only recorded a handful of cover songs in his solo career...most (like this one) are originals. I have no proof of this, but I believe the lyrics of this song have to do with his feelings from the aftermath of his departure from Pentatonix. It was amicable at first, but then the lawyers got involved and things got nasty. That has a lot to do with why Avi literally disappeared for more than a year after leaving the group. If things really went down the way I've heard they did, he had every reason to walk away from everything for a while.
It's an original, written by Avi. He also did all the vocals, from the high harmonies all the way to the low, rumbling bass.
