As an old Cold Warrior I loved this book! Thanks for giving a voice to this great work! Going forward please don't have the jet engine noise drown out the voice of the narrator. The words are more important than the visual and audio. Please keep up the good work!
Thank you for your feedback. I did the latest video this just the book audio. Mission 9: Returns ruclips.net/video/lRe8GAT-kWg/видео.html I started this by making playable missions (with the audio as part of the background of the mission) and sharing them on the DCS forum. The first number of videos where supposed to be a walk through to help people fly the mission however most people are more interested in the audio book with the cinematic so I modified the mission a bit to meet this request. Also check out FIXEDIT or @BobChanel for some great cinematic videos of Red Storm Rising. I hope that between our two channels you can get your fill of my favorite book!
The whining about excessive noise is worse than the excessive noise. Please people this is Free entertainment. Be grateful for the effort being spent to bring a great book back to life. If you’re been on flight lines or in military aircraft it is noisy. Just got a flashback with some jet noise and alert tones. Jet noise, the sound of Freedom! I say good show and well done.
One problem, the Sfx auto is far to loud, overpowering the vocals. Washing out the script, just a little lower in volume. Other than that and the touch of dead air at a few moments ( their obvious) I'm impressed.
Thank you for taking the time to comment. I am going to clean up how I edit the videos for better sound and smoother visuals for those who are enjoying the videos outside of just a demonstration of how to fly the DCS mission.
Cool reenactment! One bit of advice though - When the narrator is reading dialog, you need to mute the sound of the jets. Afterburner is not conducive to hearing spoken prose.

How the hell can I be first comment on this fantastic series after 9 days...wtf? The last episode had everyone begging for more. Looks like the YT algorithm isn't getting it to everyone's feed :/ You Tube bots...do your duty!!
I wish they'd make RSR into a movie too, but I do think the story as it is is not really suitable to a regular-length movie. The story would have to be modified a lot, or the it would have to made into a 6-8 hour miniseries, like HBO did with Chernobyl.
Thank you. Glad you enjoyed. I built the missions in Digital Combat Simulator to be playable by anyone who owned the F/A-18 module (which is one of the most popular modules). I post the mission files to the public so they can play them in DCS. When someone is flying the mission they hear relevant parts of the audio book. I started posting rough versions of the missions on youtube to help people who were struggling with certain parts of the mission (i.e. how to conduct a HARM attack) so they could copy my actions from the video to be able to complete that mission within the proper parameters. Recently my video views have blown up with most people watching the youtube missions as part of a more cinematic audiobook. That has been very exciting even if that is not what I started out doing this for. FIXEDIT @BobChanel has been doing a way better job of bringing Red Storm Rising to life in a Cinematic manner but I am glad people are enjoying my videos as well! Check out his channel as well at FIXEDIT or @BobChanel for some great cinematic videos of Red Storm Rising. I hope that between our two channels you can get your fill of my favorite book!
@@flightsims1349 Great job really. I'll check FIXEDIT out as well although I believe I may have seen his stuff out there previously. WHat kind of restrictions does the base DCS have as far as types of aircraft available? I had just assumed that everything up to present gen were available. Do they have addons with the F-111 and other Cold War aircraft available? This kind of thing is pretty immersive and has a more visceral impact in some ways than watching a movie or animation. If you dig RSR then I'd suggest reading The Third World War 1985 by Gen Sir John Hacket. Similar to RSR but written from a professional soldiers knowledge and understanding of the situation in Europe at the time. Some fantastic air battles because well for obvious reasons. I was just a young private serving his first tour in the FRG at the time, 1st Bde 3rd Armored. The largest combat brigade in the US Army at the time. What a time lol I hope you will continue to make more of these!
I will check out 1985. There is a lot of cold war era a/c in DCS but there a some notable ones missing like the F-111 and Badger bombers. The Su-23 looks similar to the Ardvark but I don't know how to change the aircraft skin to a US one within an exported mission file.
Didn't quite understand why wasn't the airfield attacked again, while everyone was running around and the fighters were chasing the FB- 111? Especially the radar in the middle of the airfield?

1 critique the sound effects of the jets when the video isolates them are over powering the voice narration. The narration was unable to be understood. Otherwise I enjoyed it!

People have been complaining about the audio levels for at least 3 weeks, you always give the exact same reply, and now you made it even worse by including these loud exterior shots. It's like you just record everything at once without plan and don't even consider mixing afterwards.

Funny, I started listening to the audiobook last week and now this. Impressive!
Wonderful!
I really enjoy this, and thank you for doing it. The video game sounds are kind of a detractor.

One of my favorite books! I don't play video games, but this was well done. Thank you.

Yup. 15 mins 50 secs in I couldn't hear a word of narration.
Love the book and your voice. Much better than a jet flying around.

Just finished the 30 hour audio book.
It’s kinda sad not a movie as Hollywood to in deep over the ryanverse.
2nd time finishing the 31hr audiobook. I might go back and listen to it again.

Thanks That was fun!
Didn't have the F-111s to fly? Thought they had them ingame. Pretty neat idea and cool video.

What is an "exported mission file"? Missions are saved as MIZ, you open them and make changes.
Didn't quite understand why wasn't the airfield attacked again, while everyone was running around and the fighters were chasing the FB- 111? Especially the radar in the middle of the airfield?
Great again, but I think the background FX sounds overpower the audio-book at times. See if you can change that mix. Thanks!

at 15:47 until 16:20, the aircraft noises drowns the narration. A few times more, also. Just need to adjust the volume between the DCS and the voice.

A wonderful fantasy but of course Russian logistics could never have supported such an effort nor would it ever have been contemplated…
Why are these last two episodes largely from the view of a Hornets cockpit?
Too much special effect sound cover the dialogue, is annoying .

copy is one. stortytelling is something different.
Apparently the narrator does not know the "h" in vehicle is silent.
Turn down the sound effects.
I will do that going forward yes!
Video doesn't match the story very much.
Stop with the DCFS noise. Please
