for an offset, I've always done 30degree bend and double the length of the distance of the offset. i.e.: 5 inch offset would require 10 inches between the bends. it's much easier than all the math. I do appreciate your video. I'm going up for testing in to the IBEW. 10 years non-union commercial electrician.

Good video. Just a correction from the first time you mentioned it; for every inch of rise in an offset, the shrinkage is 3/16". You said this correctly the second time, but said 3/8" the first time.
To the other commenter, the notch is the center of a bend, the star is the back of a 90, and the arrow is used for a 90 stub after subtracting your take-off.

I have to say this really helped me out a lot am not not bending conduit to put wires in but but that first bend you showed us how to do will be good enough am using the pipe for a small chicken structure and useing metal studs to keep them rigid the pipe will be my frame. Then am just going to over it with metal thanks for the pointers they really helped out sir

I was looking for a way to flatten the conduit for dome struts without using a press. I am a girl and it would be much easier for me not to have to deal with such a big thing. I am good with cutting them once they are flat and filing the edges and doing some drilling and final sledgehammering. This video has shown me many bends that I could make very good use of when making the frame for my papercrete dome. The whole thing is going to have to be portable. Thank you for your help. I bet You could flatten 2 inches of conduit before you cut it...

Here’s a little trick I came up with. I use O-rings that are internally sized for which size pipe I’m bending, I slide them onto the conduit at my marks, make my bends and slide them off to be re-used. I haven’t used a pencil in over 20 years. Leaves no marks on your pipe, no clean up afterwards. An assortment box can be bought at harbor freight.

+Kyle J. Schuler, SET @7:12 the crate moved ...are you sure that back-to-back is 50"? You didn't measure it :-) Are you sure the floor is level?...I mean if it's not, then those bends aren't what you think they are :-)) Just kidding with you...great video. We don't have those 'hickey' pipebenders in Europe, though I brought one back from NY in '89 and find it great...beats lugging a big old tripod bender about. I usually 'guesstimate' for offsets and saddles..but you taught me something new here, thanks. I usually scribe a straight line with my pencil, the full length of the pipe, when doing multiple bends. I have another line drawn in the centre of the bender's former, and when both are aligned, it prevents twisting. Thanks again, I've subscribed.

in the beginning of the video he says there is a subtraction factor for the stub. i just want to say that what you are subtracting is actually the radius of the bend aka the "takeup". also different types of benders have different takeups so be sure to check the bender you will be using

this guy is explains this nicely...the only thing id like to add is the dog factor...for people who are beginners at this just know that a dog is normal....dont be discouraged...you can simply lay the conduit on the ground and stand on it with your weight...the offsets can be fudged a bit...its a starter video, but a good one...using up pipe is not the best, but a patient mechanic will help you underhand this...the math works.

Good information and very helpful for those who need it, however, although it looks as though you might have been using your garage as your "studio", it would have been much better and way more helpful if you could have set up a wider shot. The parts where the "work" is out of frame is difficult for someone to try to picture in their head if they have never done this, especially how to prevent a "dog leg". Did you even mention that and how to avoid one? (couldn't remember). Anyway, just a suggestion, maybe either have someone to zoom in and out for you, or have a camera with a remote so that you can do that yourself. Good effort though.

There is no need to get on your knees, I stand up and bend the pipe, I use the floor to measure from. When I'm in a hurry I don't put marks on the pipe I just put my thumb on where I want to put the bender. Most employers want speed.
