I’m a journeyman electrician and haven’t bent pipe since I was a second year and needed a quick refresher this video helped a lot thank you.
Awesome glad to hear that this helped you ☺
I’m a second year and haven’t had much experience with it. What other kind of work have you been doing that you didn’t need to bend conduit? Do you have you apprentice do it? I’m afraid I’ll get ask to do all kinds of bends and not be able to do them so I bought some benders to practice, but conduit is way up in price.
Residential you don't use much conduit if any. Yeah conduit is up but if you skip your coffee at the local gas station every morning then by the end of the week you can buy a stick or two of conduit.
@@gustavocasas8654 most of my apprenticeship was industrial and used teck cable over conduit. Most jobs I was on we seldom used pipe and I was just never around it. Recently move been doing commercial and have had to bend a lot of pipe. Just learn a method and stick to it and eventually you’ll get the hang of it.
I started learning my second year haha, I mean knew 90s but I didn't really dedicate my efforts to bending.
1st year apprentice. This really helped compared to the books. Simple explanation and perfect demonstration.
Awesome keep up the good work.
I had to bend an offset to get around a 2x8 to feed my EVSE in my garage. This training was perfect. Thank you.
So glad this helped. I appreciate your comment and watching
Thanks for the instructions. Complete beginner at bending EMT and I was able to do everything I needed for a non-electrical project. This is for a mobile arm support used in occupational therapy. Several bends at wonky angles creating intentional dog legs and it came out perfect. Thanks!
Awesome and your so welcome. I appreciate you watching and commenting ☺
easy for sure i have to do 2 offsets come monday morning i tend to over think and over complicate things
Awesome, how did you do?
Ahhh me too
Thank you. I have not touched pipe in five years and this was a good refresher
My pleasure thanks for watching and commenting ☺
Thanks man. Havent bent 3/4 at all aside from a few classes in years. Appreciate it
As a young 20 year old 3rd year apprenticeship, thank you for this
My pleasure. Glad this helped you. Good luck with your career
@MountaineerOutdoors I love being an electrician I can't wait to be right with the top dogs
@@ColdShoulder131 it won't take long. I love what I do too. Keep learning. I do everyday
I don’t comment much on RUclips but I’ve had trouble learning this stuff and this video helped tons thank you!
My pleasure thanks for watching and commenting ☺
This is most helpful after 4 + years off from my practice. I am rusty to say the least. One thing as a follow-up: I was trained to always use pencil to mark conduit on the premise that if somewhere down the road someone paints the conduit, a marker will bleed through whereas pencil won't. That being said, if future painting isn't an issue, and having quite visible black marks isn't either, I don't see why it hurts to use the marker. Thank you again; nicely done tutorial. . .
Agreed, and I appreciate your comment and watching ☺
Thank you!!!
You just saved my day I was having trouble because of lack of equipment.
Glad that it helped. ☺ Have a great day
I just stumbled on this video. Needed a 1'' 1/ 2 offset for a t-stat and this method worked out perfectly. Thanks!
Awesome so glad that this helped. Thanks for watching and commenting ☺
1st year here. Just thought I brush up on offsets and this was great. Thank you.
Awesome glad you stopped by.
This is my fist time watching your video, and I love it, I wanna learn more from your video.

Thanks for the class, my friend, I just found it a little quick, I tried to watch the video slower but I couldn't, but the video was great. Congratulations !!!

and the longer the run, the harder it is to pull your wire through 4 90's. I agree, don't go with a full 360 in your run between boxes, I've heard a few electricians that have done it for a while say the same thing about using the 30 degree angle; it's easy to calculate and it definitely makes pulling wire more efficient, and it's all about efficiency! I'm also an IBEW member of the local 1141 in Oklahoma city. I'm a QC commercial Journeyman electrician. I was glad to become a member in March 26th of 2019. I'm glad I joined! We have a big sign in one of our halls that says "right to work is a ripoff". It really is; because it does not look out for the worker! Plus you have people negotiating wages and benefits for you!
Definitely that right to work sucks.. I never knew how much until I joined the union in 2012. Thanks for the comment and watching ☺
Clear and simple explanation, thanks!!

Keep making videos this one was quick and great. I just don’t get why people fight about ways of bending offsets.

30 degree bend and length of obstruction x2 great video
Thanks and you definitely have it
I watch these videos, not because I want to do these things myself, but so I know when to call you!..lol! Good stuff brother!
😂 😂 😂 Anytime man plus it would give me a chance to ride with a pro rider.. Seriously though anytime
It would be better if you showed how far is that obtraction from the pipe you are connecting too. Thanks.
Thank you. GOD BLESS THE FAMILY 👪 24. 7💪
My pleasure thanks for watching and commenting ☺
Nice video - not overly complicated 👍🏽
If you want to take it a step further, you would also need to consider how far away the obstruction is from your last coupling/connector, and account for it + shrinkage in your first line, before making your second line at double the obstruction’s height.
But again, great video
Exactly thank you for your comment and watching
Although you might not have an issue with sharpie, it just looks poor on exposed conduit. Pencil can get rubbed off and just delivers a better product for the client. I love this guide though and thanks for taking the time out of your life to make this.
My pleasure thanks for watching and commenting ☺
Thank you ! You have been more than helpful. Low voltage electrical and we do a lot of pipe bending you have been a great help . 👍👍👍

I'm a journeyman electrician and have never bent pipe but got a new job in commercial which I've never done or wanted to do. And I'm learning from this video as I type this lol
Awesome my friend good luck it's pretty rewarding once you get the hang of it.
@Mountaineer Outdoors just got an email from an underground mine I applied for haha may not be here long enough to get good.
Good money but dangerous watch your back.
@Mountaineer Outdoors Dangerous Heavy Industrial stuff is pretty much all I've done for a long time, hence why I never learned pipe. I even took 2 years off and conducted trains for CNRail. A fair amount of people died doing that job that started around my time frame. But Thanks.
Box offsets while conforming to a large radius bend. I build commercial steam boilers.

Pretty clear and to the point
Great video. Thanks for taking ur time to explain it patiently. I worked on conduit with my ex-fiancés father. The guy was a total asshole and control freak. I learned more from you in this 6 min video than working with that psycho.
I have been there and I know exactly how you felt...I appreciate you watching and glad that I could help..
I haven't bent pipe in years thanks man. Got a test coming up
Well good luck and take your time. You got this. Keep me posted if you pass.

Ridged conduit 3/4 and 1-inch gal with the threading machine, pony, vice, ban saw, 3 piece coupling. Chicago bender and sidewinder. More importantly, making everything level after the bend was too much or too little. Spinning the conduit on from hard to reach spots.
I'm assuming that this is ideas that you would like to see?

You as well. I appreciate you watching and commenting ☺
Thanks for getting right to it
Most electricians are working for speed. You'll find that the majority of benders if you pull the handle straight up will give you a 30 degree bend. You're less likely to flatten the pipe or bow it by bending with the bender on the floor. It's also generally easier to avoid dog legs looking down on the bends. Don't get me wrong as I've bent plenty of pipe with the bender standing on the handle but on the floor is always faster expecially when you need multiple bends that are identical. Nice video though. History note. I got sent out to a job where they had a couple of cowboys doing all the pipe work. It was pretty work. They were proud and wanted to show it to me. We went into the mechanical room and there was a panel can with a whole rack of 1/2" pipe. The pipe came out and offset back to the wall. Went up four feet and there was a I-beam set out a few inches so they four point saddled around it. Went up almost to the ceiling where there was another beam and they offset out and the hooked a ninety to go out of the room with one last saddle before going out into the hall. I walked out into the hall and looking down the hallway I could see a ninety, two more four point saddles, another ninety and then the first pull box. None of the hallway was going to be accessible. I looked at these two guys and said do you have any idea how many 90's you can put in a run of pipe and still pull wire through it? In one of those I didn't know turkeys couldn't fly moments the guy said I thought you could pull wire through as many bends as you needed. Note. It was an entire rack of pipes.
Yes I agree with you on the floor. And that story boy I couldn't even imagine seeing that. What a nightmare. Back to the drawing board 😂 😂. I appreciate you watching and commenting ☺
Seems like it will be kind of tight to put a coupling right there. Maybe make a video showing how to bend an offset that passes the obstruction so that we can easily put a coupling on it. Great easy video
Great idea I appreciate you watching and commenting ☺
Thanks for the refresher
My pleasure thanks for watching and commenting ☺
That's a fine lesson! But thsts not the bends guys really have a hard time with is the 2 inch offsets that I see them struggle with cause the 2x30° formula don't work and it becomes trial and error till you just don't so many of them that they just come natural
Yeah once you get it down you can eye ball it sometimes you may have bend it on 15 degrees
This is my first video I’ve watched of you, an I’m subscribing 👍🏾. Quick an to the point!!

Could you do a video on how to do offsets in between metal studs ?
Do you mean in between the holes that are in the studs? Or like out of a box and onto the top plate?
do you use a framing square to do your rolling offset? take the rise distance and mark it on the vertical side of the square and take the horizontal distance and mark it on the horizontal of the square and measure across from the two on a diagonal and take that measurement times the multiplier of whatever bend you are doing. If you haven't done a video on that, it could help a lot of people; because there always seems to be something you have to dodge in a run of conduit, and this is really an easy method to use. I know the trig version, but if someone doesn't have Casio Classmate for 30 bucks at Wall-Mart, they can spend a few less bucks on a framing square from Lowe's or Ace or Home Depot. Also, using the framing square bypasses converting decimals to fractions for your tape measure too! and you may not always have the calculator to find the square root of the rise squared + the horizontal squared and rounding and all the rest to get a number you can use on your tape measure.
I have not ever used a framing square I'll have to look that one up.
@@MountaineerOutdoors if you mark your rise on one side (inside edge) and horizontal on the other, really doesn't matter which; Make sure when you measure across that the dumb end of the tape is held center to the mark and the other just to the edge. I compared it to the trig. method of the square root of the rise squared + the horizontal squared on a scientific calculator and use the multiplier of whatever degree of bend you are doing and it will give you the measurement between A and B! I also compared it to this quick bend app that actually has the right triangle there showing which measurement is which. It actually comes in a bundle from the Apple store. I can't remember what I paid for it but it was only a few dollars I think. but it comes up with the same as just using the calculator. The framing square comes up the same but it is important to hold the center of the dumb end to the one mark for it to come out dead on. It's quick to test out if you have a scientific calculator. I have the Casio Classwiz from wall-Mart for about 30 dollars. hit the square root button and put your rise hit the X with the 2 at the right corner of it to square the rise put the + mark and enter your horizontal measurement squared and I have to hit the shift and then equal to get the decimal read out, and my Quick bender app came with a workman's calculator that will convert a decimal to a fraction and vise versa in about 3 seconds or however long it takes to enter the numbers lol pretty legit
That's pretty cool.. I'm gonna have to give that a try. I appreciate you telling me about that and I will be looking forward to seeing if I can get it to work. I always love trying new ways so this will be legit. Thanks again
This video was amazing thank you BUT...
What if my bend is open or closed? How do I fix it?
There is a video coming out about this in the next few weeks watch for it.
nice job
I appreciate it ☺
What if you had to put in compression fitting coupling right on top of the box to connect another piece of pipe?
Then you would have to maker measurement 4 and a 1/4 in.
Because a compression coupling are really beefy.
Good point they Def are beefy for sure.
If all conduits had 4 lines equally spaced to help bending I would pay more for it because that would make it a lot easier to bend. Especially for beginners.
That would Def be s great idea. You should email the manufacturer for sure
Hahah you want racing stripes on all our pipe??
I have drawn my own lines down the sides of pipes with dry eraser makers for really complex bends. i hate couplings
There are a couple of pipe benders on the market that has proper markings, one that comes to mind is the Swedish Fromax 55, it comes in sizings from just short of 1/4th inch outer diameter, up to just short of 7/8ths, handles most types of piping from soft/hard copper to stainless steel. It works well both in a vice & by hand and has markings by degrees. It's generally more suitable for plumbing, but who knows, it might just fit the bill. "Rörmokarläraren" (just copy that) here on youtube has a couple of videos where he uses it for bends. It's in Swedish mind you, but you'll get an idea of the tool.
@@bk-ng1vy yes I do. They can be just printed on.
Thank you man! So helpful.
My pleasure glad that it helped. I appreciate you watching and commenting ☺

Missing 10 degree mark on bender. Besides buying new bender what is your suggestion. Watch all your videos and they are always spot on.
I appreciate you always watching. What bender do you have? My suggestion if yours doesn't have it get a protractor bend the pipe, use your protractor see where 10 degrees is and tweak it from there. Here is a protractor like I am referring to amzn.to/3tv2oUK
It's an old Appleton. I've had it for 40 years and never noticed the 10 degree mark missing lol. Been winging it. I will now mark it to make it more accurate. You brought me up to date.
That's awesome. Good luck and if you have any other questions let me know
