Fantastic video. I always changed at Great Portland Street from the Circle/Hammersmith & City lines for the Metropolitan line to Uxbridge. A great view along the tunnels in both directions. Lots of comments saying ‘C Stock’, ‘A Stock’, ‘S Stock’. May I add to these : Red Renault 5 !!!.
Some nice nostalgic memories of the C Stock and A Stock before they were replaced by the S Stock as we know of today. I have been to Great Portland Street once before.
This was my station to go to school in 1962-1963. I traveled from Notting Hill Gate via the Circle Line with a student multi-trip 2" x 3" cardboard ticket in a handy blue plastic pouch. I don't remember how long it was good for since my parents took care of that. It was only valid on the Circle Line. A couple of times I went home via alternate route, but fortunately did not get caught.
I went to school by train, and also had a yellow school pupil train pass which dictated the route that I should travel. But I soon started exploring other routes which were not always the most direct between home and school (a little... erm, thats all I'll admit in public!!) and it made me more independent as a person. Mostly I enjoyed it, although there was one morning when I noticed rather a lot of aphids flying around and when I looked up to the ceiling I freaked out at seeing that the A stock train was infested with a heaving swarm of greenly!
Yikes, so I did - sorry that was a typo which I have now corrected. However, in the HD section I refer to 2020 when I should have said 2023. This is because I only filmed the last few scenes yesterday and forgot to update the text seen in the film
Thats an interesting idea - I never thought of this station but I think I do have enough 1990s footage to make this viable. Thank you for the suggestion.
They only had manual announcements that were done occasionally by the driver. If not then there wouldn't be any announcements as they didn't have automated announcements installed for some reason
I love these comparison videos so much
Thank you. Over the past decade or so I've been delighted to be able to make them. I think I have just one more to come - Gloucester Road.

The C stock sounds high pitched compared to 72/73 stocks
The Istanbul café located outside the station is really good.
I remember seeing it but I did not visit it.
I'd love to see some footage or photos of the metropolitan line platforms at King's Cross Station before its 00s refurbishment.

How come you put 1991 in the description when it says 1990-2013?

Fantistoc shots of bygone days
Things were much better in the 90s, now look what Britain has become, I’m glad I don’t have much longer left on this earth. 😊
Hang on there, the next few years look like they will be very rough but much better times are coming ...
