    It's all good , it's drizzly , it's Saturday and it's Dale , leafing season is upon us , the high pressure water trains will be out , the rail gritters will be spraying goop , and some trains will be sailing majestically through signals and platforms , ah , the joys of autumn . Where there's heavy leaf litter the rail heads can be black from the oils from crushed leaves . Your driving philosophy puts you in front I'd say . Great video 👍

    Another excellent video! Although as an LU engineer, I was aware of the existence of Leaf Fall Timetables, it was nonetheless interesting to see how LU mitigates the operational risks associated with those pesky leaves! I used to think that I have a hard task dealing with the very many leaves that fall on my garden and drive at this time of the year but, having now gained an improved appreciation of the challenge that leaves present to the railway, I should probably stop moaning (not that anyone listens)!
    Thank you, Dale, for this informative insight!

    man i'm legit excited for when you start driving the new trains sometime in the nearby future, I'm sure those new units will feel like spaceships inside compared to the old 70s stock haha.
    also which model of rode mic are you using? there is a way in the mic itself to make it stereo, newer rode mics have a "merged" (mono) and "split" (stereo) mode which can be gone between using buttons on receiver (not the one on the top)

    Dale, actually you have been recording it in stereo, as it’s panned over to one side. I assume only input “1” has had audio routed to it and not “1&2”.
    As for correcting the audio you already have. It’s really easy to do in most software to “split” that stereo file into 2 mono files (which would be your left and right) and pan the one with your audio on it in the centre. Hope this makes sense!

Apologies if you have already covered this but what is going to happen to all the existing trains when the new ones come into service? Indeed where are they going to put all the old stock? It seems to have lasted extremely well considering its age so it seems a crying shame just to cut them all up......many thanks

    My understanding is the 1973 Stock doesn’t have anti-lock brakes, whereas the 2024 Stock will, which is why there are separate leaf-fall timetables. I think the Met no longer has them for this reason, they used to for the A Stock.

    I like this sound without the new microphone you bought, it's much louder how it is in this video. I don't understand why you felt that you needed to buy it. Like the famous saying goes. "If it's not Broken, then why Fix it" ?? - This sound is great in this video. Seriously, you don't need to change this, and I cannot see why anyone would wish to criticize it. Your new microphone was just a downgrade in sound quality - not an upgrade

  • @jasonk9779
    @jasonk9779 9 часов назад

    Love having your videos on when I'm working here on the computer, usually video editing. You won't need any special software, all video editing programs will allow you to take a mono, or single channel track, and make it stereo, it's just a setting. Best to do it first thing before you start to edit, that way the setting will be on all your clips.
    What software do you use to edit?

  • @dizzy2020
    @dizzy2020 11 часов назад +3

    Mics - mics record mono UNLESS they're special (binarual/stereo field etc.)
    What you do with that - how it's merged with video (which usually has at least 2 separate tracks for left/right field) depends on how you're bringing the audio and video together - usually you'll just repeat the 'mono' track for both 'sides' but you often have to ensure this happens manually
    This is why I always used headphones when working - you hear better than with speakers - they also block-out the Missus which is a bonus I cannot truly express the value of

    I can understand about leaf fall, I'd call it railways version of black ice. Until recently, September 2024, there was a big tree up the road from me, in my street, which should've been cut down years ago. The new owners of that house have got it cut down, which is just as well, as the previous tenant (she rented it from a firm, who sold it after she went into a care home), had a friend, who had to apply bleach to her path for her, as the leaves caused it to be slippery. In addition, the pavement, and the road, got slippery when wet with the leaves as well. Next time you're heading eastbound from T5, any chance you can slow the camera down, at the points when the loop from T4 joins, and the junction leading eastbound trains into the westbound?

I have lost my three lives trying to gain entry into Southern Railways in East Croydon. I would just like to know, because I live outside of the distance now required to be readily avaliable in the City. Would three failures on the Surface rail test exclude you? Also, do you have that test with Lights, Pedals and have to react. thats the one that really threw me, although I got really good at the reaction game "Beep Bop" (on which I practised). 😀 How do you manged I presume you commmute from Peterborough, or stay in the City?

    • @dalecharmantravels8057

      A co acting signal just copies a signal ( near it) as visibility might make it hard to see. It can only show a red or green aspect. A repeater is a signal placed to warn you a signal may be red and can only show a yellow or green aspect
