Hi Dale - thanks for the information about the 3 car 1973 stock train, I'd spotted one and recorded it a while ago (put it in a little video of rare tube trains) but I never knew what it was for. Great video! :)
If you're using a GoPro, you can hang them upside down and it will automatically flip the video for you (theres also a setting to fix the rotation in one of the menus) and if you want better light performance, the GoPro 11 has the largest sensor (so has the best low light performance) and record at 25FPS at 1/50 shutter speed. Only down side to that is that in the overground bits, it will be over exposed so might need to change the settings mid-drive
Hi Dale, great video as always mate. I must say it was a great try when you were trying to say my surname. I'll give you a 7/10 for effort lol. Keep up the great work mate. Take care

Lovely video Dale, I do look forward to your releases. Just a tidbit on your RAT Train, this is an example of a thing called RAS (Redundant Acronym Syndrome), other examples include PIN number, LDC display or ATM machine. Amusingly RAS is somethings called RAS Syndrome, in some sort of irritating irony! Thought you might be interested :)
Love the videos, especially nice to see whats beyond the platforms at Heathrow as I've used that station many times, I have actually a cool idea if you'd like to hear me out?
At 2:35 when the points moved, other than the trip cock actuator (or whatever its proper name is) descending, I couldn't see anything else change to let you know it was OK to move. Is there something there?
The fibre-optic shunt signals come out really badly on the video, but if you go to 33:00 you can see white discs with red stripes on them on the ground to the left and right. Those are shunt signals. When the red stripe is horizontal it means the shunt signal is at danger but you can disregard that and obey the main aspect red/green signal if there is one. When the disc rotates so that the red stripe is at 45 degrees the shunt signal is clear (any associated main aspect signal will stay red). That is your authority to make a shunting movement (in the case of the shunt signals at Acton Town they clear you into one of the three sidings and a number will come up to tell you which one you're going into). If that's where you're meant to be going and there aren't any passengers on board you're good to go. If you were expecting to go towards Hammersmith then that's not so good. In any case those rotating discs require compressed air to move them and that's not very à la mode these days so back at Heathrow we have fibre optic shunt signals which are basically a digital picture of those discs. They show an ugly picture of a white disc with a horizontal red stripe when at danger and that then changes to an ugly picture of a white disc with a red stripe at 45 degrees when the signal clears, but it doesn't show up on camera, but in real life you can see it fine. With the fibre optic type if there is a main aspect red/green signal the shunt signal only illuminates when it clears and it doesn't show anything when at danger because the main aspect red applies. You can actually see all this in videos showing us going into the sidings at Heathrow which can be found elsewhere on this channel. There's a fixed red light down on the ground to the left and the fibre optic shunt lights up in the cabinet at the end of the platform up on the right. A ridiculous way to signal trains if you ask me but there it is. In this case there is no associated red/green main signal, you just have a screen with a picture on it of a white disc with a red stripe either horizontal or at 45 degrees
Really enjoyed today's video. The camera angle was spot on, nice and different. Can I get a shout out at some point it would make my day. Hey, big fan of your videos! Looking at your mic at the start, looks like you're using a rode go? Firstly - everything sounds absolutely fine as is, so don't worry about that or take this as a dig at your video quality (just put this on whilst eating my dinner), but might be more comfortable if you use the lavalier mic, if it shipped with one. That way, you can clip the transmitter to your shirt pocket, and just run the wire up to your collar. I've used these guys for shoots quite a lot and they're very robust little things though, so worth the investment!
@@dalecharmantravels8057 Understood! If It's a GO II then chances are it's in 2 channel mode, from memory there's a little screen that'll show it. Think it can be changed by pressing the button on there but I'm not 100% - and you may well have figured it out by now! Happy to help out if not. I agree the manual isn't much good...
When Runway 09R is in use for departures, the Brookmans Park departure will go right across you. The aircraft maintain (approximately) the speed at takeoff until reaching 1000ft and then reduce their rate of climb until they accelerate to 250kts.

Hey, hope you enjoyed your week love the videos. You will have to come and try the Tyne and Wear metro out at some point trust me, I know how it feels to be really disorganised so it’s okay if you forgot my shout out but hope you enjoyed your week and have a brilliant weekend
I always got this… unique feeling of a like a special kind of satisfaction pulling into the station at JFK airport going towards Manhattan while crewing one of the brand new R211A class subway trains and have the platform be packed. “here I am with this shiny new train and I am the first thing you are seeing of New York outside the airport.” Though I did have a few who refused to board because my train didn’t say “Manhattan” on it. Be like someone sitting there are Heathrow not getting on your train because it doesn’t say “London” on it. “But I don’t want to go to this ‘cockfosters’, I want to go to London”
Hi Dale, love your videos. I'm starting to learn the rulebook Wednesday for the 6 hour exam in 12 weeks and I'm terrified. How did you find it? Is it as difficult as everyone says?
I found it ok personally. The only advice I can give you is read every thing carefully and double check your answers. Some times at a glance the answer looks correct but actually isn’t. Some can be very close. Assuming it’s still multiple choice
Our leave is given to use in 2 week blocks ( with 3 odd days) I did some drivers favours by splitting my leave up hence why I have some one week leaves. All our leave starts on a Sunday and ends the following Saturday
You mentioned soon all your Piccadilly rides will be in the dark, like running thru the pipe the entire ride. I watch 3 other European Driver’s view channels and they run quite a few Nighttime videos the difference being their powerful headlights. You can not only see the tracks in front of you, you can read the signs as well. Your commentary fills the gaps when it’s dark. I’m not sure you can fill the entire train ride. I hope the new trains due next year have sufficient headlight so we can enjoy the entire ride while you comment. ..
I guess you don't drive a car? You can see just fine without lights everywhere, in fact you can see the signals better in the dark. I've driven French countryside roads at night, and they're definitely not lit. It's fine.
I will have to have a look at it. The instructions don’t say any thing about it recording in mono so never thought about it. Plus on the laptop it sounds fine
We get a 30 minute lunch break. That’s the minimum we have to have. Some duties you might have what’s called a step back so you get off one train and may wait say 30 mins for your next one. On this line breaks are taken at drivers depots. So that’s Cockfosters, Arnos Grove, Acton Town and Northfields. So each duty will be different
Sitting in Aussie, with a beer, it’s 29C sunny - watching your escapades on the tube Dale! Question though - have you ever been in a position where you’ve not been able to get anyone on because of a crowded train? And what’s the “instruction” if your train is chockers full and you cannot depart - or is the platform closed? That, and what happens if your train is defective enroute? Cheers from Andrew (NSW, Australia)
Yes there are many times were you can’t get all passengers on the train. As long as we can get the doors closed the train can depart. As for a defective train we would deal with it the same way full or empty. It makes life harder when it’s full if you need to start lifting seats up to fix an issue
Personally driving in the dark is better as the signals are much clearer. The thing is even if we had headlight like a car the chances of being able to stop due to an obstruction are slim. The headlights are all designed for people to see the train and not the other way around
Much prefer the view from the second man's side Dale - but as a suggestion just angling it directly forward as opposed to the slightly right-angled view
On the video that should be out Sunday the slight angle gives you a much better view of the monitors. I will try different placements to try and find a good spot that picks up most things
Appreciate it that you care about our safety and we don’t fall onto the tracks especially in the fast! Nice video as always. Also I’ve always wondered, HOW MANY TRAIN LINES DOES LONDON HAVE LOL?? Your lucky to have 3 - 4 airport rails, Melbourne on the other hand has the airport rail out on hold and it’s not going to open till the mid 2030’s I think. Also one good thing, next month will hopefully have no more lift maintenance works at green park!!
Mic is great! Camera much better in the 👉right side window 👌my only Dale style moan😁 would be when tilting camera upwards, more reflection is noticeable, otherwise perfect😁 Cheers Dale
New viewing position seems good to earls court hears a question was unable to ask Leaving any area to run empty is it a rule you run with lights on OR do you run minus carriage lights
It’s the same almost in every country. If you can fit on the train it can go. Of cause people have the choice to wait for the next train which might be less busy
@@dalecharmantravels8057 Yes sure, I have often wondered if so. As traditional rail travel doesn’t allow this. But if it’s a quick commute and the flow of passengers are on and off then yes it’s the standard way to move around the capital.
With regards to having a cab door open whilst travelling is there a set rule as which door should be open ? Saw a driver Friday with his side cab door open
@dalecharmantravels8057. Another great video, but you missed shouting me out. Prit from Toronto. Hopefully, you'll remember for the next video, and hopefully, you'll be able to screenshot the King's Cross loop
The trains do have some batteries on them. In most places part of the train is always on the power. There are places like across the points coming in to Cockfosters where the train could come off the power. You hope if nothing else momentum keeps you going

Hey, hope you enjoyed your week love the videos. You will have to come and try the Tyne and Wear metro out at some point trust me, I know how it feels to be really disorganised so it’s okay if you forgot my shout out but hope you enjoyed your week and have a brilliant weekend
I have started to make a list on my notes in my phone so hope I won’t forget people. I have added you for the next time I do shoutouts.
Great mate
I always got this… unique feeling of a like a special kind of satisfaction pulling into the station at JFK airport going towards Manhattan while crewing one of the brand new R211A class subway trains and have the platform be packed.
“here I am with this shiny new train and I am the first thing you are seeing of New York outside the airport.”
Though I did have a few who refused to board because my train didn’t say “Manhattan” on it.
Be like someone sitting there are Heathrow not getting on your train because it doesn’t say “London” on it. “But I don’t want to go to this ‘cockfosters’, I want to go to London”
I can understand visitors getting confused
Nice one Dale
thanks for the shoutout dale
Hi Dale, love your videos. I'm starting to learn the rulebook Wednesday for the 6 hour exam in 12 weeks and I'm terrified. How did you find it? Is it as difficult as everyone says?
I found it ok personally. The only advice I can give you is read every thing carefully and double check your answers. Some times at a glance the answer looks correct but actually isn’t. Some can be very close. Assuming it’s still multiple choice
@@dalecharmantravels8057 thanks I think some are multiple choice still but some are written 👍
H Dale thanks for the videos,I am interested in the train are the driving wheels at the each end of the train ?
Out of the 6 cars on the 73 stock trains 4 cars have motors ( driving wheels) hence why they are reasonably quick to move from stand still
@@dalecharmantravels8057 Thanks for the rep[y Dale. And the vidoes i appreciate the time and trouble that it takes Thank You.
Hi Dale, when you go on leave do you get to choose how many days the leave will be or is it always a set amount? Great vid as usual!
Our leave is given to use in 2 week blocks ( with 3 odd days) I did some drivers favours by splitting my leave up hence why I have some one week leaves. All our leave starts on a Sunday and ends the following Saturday
@@dalecharmantravels8057 Cheers! Well-deserved and I hope it is/was some nice time off
Hi dale do you ever get dazzled by the bright light of the outside when you have been in the pipe lol
It can be hard to go from very bright light to dark and vice versa. That’s one reason I like to drive in the dark
I hope the new trains due next year have sufficient headlight so we can enjoy the entire ride while you comment. ..
I would imagine the new trains will have LED lights. How much of the tunnel they will light up I don’t know
Saturday night on the Tube......sorted.
Great video Dale....shootout from South Dublin to you....👍
Love the new Camera angle too
Hi Dale the sound is only coming out on the right adjust your mike
@@robobrien1046 he turned the sound down
Hi, i have a question. Why are the tunnels so dark? Im from paris and in our tunnels we have planty of lights here it looks scary 😅
I guess you don't drive a car? You can see just fine without lights everywhere, in fact you can see the signals better in the dark. I've driven French countryside roads at night, and they're definitely not lit. It's fine.
I much prefer the dark. It’s easier to see signals around corners. Plus when the lights are on it gives me a headache constantly passing my head
I totally agree with your comments on those idiots doing graffiti
Yeah
At Houslow Central you lowerd the volume it worked befor that no problems with the sound =) . Does the volume peak red in the camera display ? =)
I will have to have a look at it. The instructions don’t say any thing about it recording in mono so never thought about it. Plus on the laptop it sounds fine
shout out buddy
Hi Dale do you just get the one break per shift and where do you go to have it ?
It makes life harder when it’s full if you need to start lifting seats up to fix an issue
quick question for the next video Dale....
when you get to whistleboards and thw whistle doesnt work or it's low what happens then????
cheers
All it says is basically take extra care if the whistle does not work. So you could drive a little slower in those areas
I have a quick question: like cars, why don't trains have headlights on tunnels to use when it's too dark?
Wouldn't that be safer and more helpful?
There are lots of different train lines from the underground to lots of different main line trains
I turn them off to help people see it’s not in service. It doesn’t always stop them from shouting at you to open the doors though
@@dalecharmantravels8057 Many thanks for a quick reply bearing you are busy in various ways Cheers.
Quick question how come there is no safety regulations on over crowded carriages. As from previous experiences they are over capacity.
It should only be the off side door assuming no one else is in the cab
@@dalecharmantravels8057 ah ok that’s what I thought you had said in previous videos and no one else was in the cab with the guy.
@dalecharmantravels8057. Another great video, but you missed shouting me out. Prit from Toronto. Hopefully, you'll remember for the next video, and hopefully, you'll be able to screenshot the King's Cross loop
I have added you to my list. I will ensure you are on the next shout outs
@@dalecharmantravels8057 awesome
What was that thing in the air floating to your right when you approached Hounslow Central?
I would guess a plane coming in to land at Heathrow. It’s not very clear on the video
An airliner.
Thanks for the shout out Dale!
How do the trains compensate for the gaps in the power rails?
The trains do have some batteries on them. In most places part of the train is always on the power. There are places like across the points coming in to Cockfosters where the train could come off the power. You hope if nothing else momentum keeps you going
