We had one of the worst ice storms in nearly 50 years here in the Midwest this February. I lost power for 6 days and would have went crazy if it wasn't for the Sony icf-19. Yes, I have plenty of emergency radios powered by 18650s, but had no time to charge them as there were fallen trees I had to clean up. One doesn't always have to be "off the grid" to really appreciate one of these 300+hour radios. I'm sure glad I had this one in this particular situation. I hope Sony never stops making it...And yes, I'm still on the same D cells.
3D alkalines, at the low drain of this thing (unless you really turn it up) is gonna have as much energy as like six 18650s (very roughly ~3000x6=18000mAh). I have a lot of always near full 18650s and AA NiMH but still, impressive.
Because of your channel, I have bought 2 of these now! One for myself, and one for my mother. We like the fact it's easy to use, no fancy features, and excellent on battery power! Thanks toddert! Great recommendation!
I have 3 of these.. recently someone bought all these radios on the internet somehow even though theres plenty of alternate ones that almost reach the battery life of this one that i know of . Not a big deal but i just like the plain look
Nice radio for a emergency with the long battery time. My radio collection has grown greatly over the last couple of years down to your reviews. A while ago you reviewed an Ocean Digital WR 23 internet radio. It works great but just to let you know if you listen to the BBC stations from the uk they no longer work as they have stopped the shout cast stream. However my radio did an automatic update but they still didn’t work, however if you carry out a search again for the BBC stations again you can get them back. Hope this helps regards David in the UK
Once again you had me at SONY :) I wasn’t aware this model was DSP. Seems like a great radio. I stayed away from this model because of the D batteries but I have recently started using D batteries again. I need to buy rechargeable, the run time is very good. This radio is one to put on my list. Thanks for the great band scans.

If it is just for the D-batteries you might enjoy the ICF 506 model. Exact the same radio but takes 3 AA batteries and has a transformer for mains voltage.
Thanks a lot for your nice review ! I have ICF-506, an analog Sony radio and love ít. Sony ICF-19 looks like ICF-506 bút the fact its is DSP tuning that doesnt make me happy in band scaning.
I know some of these radios 📻 sell like 👍 hotcakes 🥞, at $20.00 and such. I like 👍 the C Crane 🏗️ analog AM/FM radio 📻, but it’s $99.99 online. Your friend, Jeff.
Interference problems of radio receivers that use electricity in the home .When charging the phone and listening to the FM radio, interference while charging will interfere with the radio. I solved the problem by listening to a small radio.

One of the greatest radio nowadays, with great battery life, great speaker.
I have two of these. One I purchased brand new, the other one is used but really cheap and in good condition so I bought it. Great Sony radio.

I was able to find an ICF-801 in good shape, it was way more than the $30 you can pick up a 19 for but I’m a non DSP fan. Thank you for posting.

Todderbert…thx for your vids. What kind is your handheld loop antenna you show in this video?
I sometimes use 3xAA to D adapters. Can use 3,6, or 9 AA rechargeable AAs that way.

It is not fun, but on FM it really shines. I like how it locks on a station with zero drift, and solid selectivity.
