Annetenna (Ednaswap) - Torn (Acoustic)

- 'Torn' was originally from Ednaswap's second album, Wacko Magneto. After the band split, Scott Cutler and Anne Preven formed Annetenna - the band under which this acoustic version was recorded. I believe this was recorded live on Howard Stern.
Heard it first on the Howard Stern show and that one remains my favorite version but this is pretty damn close! I think alot of people were in awe when she belted this out live - I know I was.
I remember when I heard it on Stern. I didn't know about the pop version, and I was telling some friends about how much I loved this song I heard on Stern, and they were all looking at me like I'd gone completely nuts. When they played the Imbruglia version, I couldn't stop laughing!

It's sad that Anne isn't more widely recognized for her work, she obviously has alot to say. and is a great female rock singer, something in short supply these days.
For many years I love Natalie Imbruglia's version. This is the first time I heard this original version, and I think it is superb! My new love!

+Alicia Hock I've been hearing the Natalia's version for a year know. I stumbled upon the real version today. While watching a RUclips video titled "Top 80 Songs You Didn't Know Were Covers and Their Originals" The song comes up on 6:01 in the video, how mind blowing it is for me the fact that i have heard the Natalia's pop version since i was a child and loving this Alternative original version of the song.
No matter who covers this song, it is a great song that will always stand the test of time. A timeless classic no matter who it is sung by.
First heard this on Stern long time ago. Had to pull over on the highway and listen. Heard Anne live in an after hours club a few years later. Thank you for your talent, Ms. Preven.
This was not recorded live on Howard Stern. What happened was they preformed it in the studio and everyone loved the performance. They asked the stern show for a copy so they could put it on their website. Stern show said no. So they just went into their studio and recorded this.

You're right, Anne Preven DID perform this in the studio the 1st time. I was listening that morning & caught it on cassette. Beautiful versions either way, but I am partial to the 1st one.

15 years after its debut, I somehow find this song stuck in my head for the past two weeks. But just this version.
WoW, the acoustic version is more emotional than the original one. Anne’s voice is heavenly and Scott’s chords are dreamy. Torn is one of the greatest songs I’ve ever listened and I simply can’t get tired of it. 💙🖤

This is not the version from the Howard Stern show. I, too, fell in love with this song when I heard it on Howard Stern but they (Annetenna) couldn't get permission to release it. The way I understand it, they had this version recorded previously but had forgotten about it. When it was rediscovered they released it under the newer band AnnetennA (formally Ednaswap). Thanks for posting, I love this version (even better than the original Ednaswap version).
The best version
I was so overwhelmed the first time I heard the original version. I couldn't believe it! So much better than Natalie's version. I mean, it came as such a good surprise to know that this was the original song. Since then, I couldn't stop listening!
All my friends think Natalie's version is better but, personally, I think they're going nuts!

strange how the original sounds like a cover. Its great that Natalie's version was fortunate enough to have found hit success. Its unfortunate for this version though cause its equally as brilliant and moving and I dont know a soul who listens to Edna

First time I heard Anne sing was on Howard Stern I was blowned away.. I don't think she wanted this to be a pop fast song like Natalie sings it. She said it was a heart breaking song when she wrote it..But I do like Natalie version also, but this one is a little better it has more meaning!!!

that version is most often known as a DEMO.
every other artist performing or recording this song is COVERING the original song, even if the release date of the other artist's version predates the release of the original song WRITTEN BY THE ORIGINAL ARTIST. so there.
and for the record, so to speak, the first demo was recorded in 1991 or thereabouts.
She did do a version of this on Stern. Not this version, tho it's almost identical. that one had only her and a guitar. and if I'm not mistaken, her brother was in studio with her that day on guitar.

This is a perfect example of the the media shoves crap down your throat... This is 10 times better than Natalie whatever the hell her name is. How did that version every become more popular than this one.
This is a live version, recorded on Howard Stern in 2000. There is an Ednaswap album version, released in 1995 that is faster and poppier than this version.
Ednaswap’s record label East West Records refused to promote them for a stupid reason because their songs were apparently ‘too different’ from the original demo that was presented to the label. They were signed on to a different label in 1997 but by then natalie had released her cover and it was basically impossible to promote the original torn.
Its feels like a cover of Nat. Its because Nat version is cleaner with a bit sense of rock that explode in 90 till 00. Nat crispy arrangement applied into another like Avril. When finally Avril turn it into post funky-pop punk. Nat version is sounds better because Edna had a slighter chance than Nat

This song is way better than Natalie's cover! If u listen to the words, it's a song about haerbreak! The title says it all! Natalie sings it as a happy-go-lucky pop song!

Well, it actually isn't funny. It's sad that half of the recording artists like that don't even write their own music. In other words, they have no real talent, except for the set of pipes that God gave them.
