I like that 75% annual dues goes towards paying cast members. They create the real magic at WDW. I'm not currently a DVC member (hopefully one day!), but I wouldn't be angry paying higher annual dues if it means a livable wage and retaining talented cast members.

Not sure if I've been watching to much WandaVision or you are just that cool, but the black and white print matched the black "fancy" ears, the green plant and the green shirt, the pot itself matched the chair.......such a soothing backdrop. Very professional!! I knew I had taken it to far when I started trying to see what color nail polish you had on!!
I have been watching some videos about DVC and this was the most helpful because you talked about dues. This is something none of the others really discussed and I found that so helpful for me in making a decision on buying into DVC!

We love DVC! We bought resale, but at the time all perks were included, and luckily are grandfathered in. We also have a Disney chase card that we use the rewards to pay towards the dues!

My mom bought dvc before the first one was built in 1992. OKW. Back then , you got 5 years of free park tickets for your whole party. Unbelievable.... those were the days. :)
I know I've heard from people who were able to take advantage of that and just CRAZY!! We were newlyweds then and we could barely make rent so it was completely out of the question but WOW what a deal!

Thanks so much Jen, we are a UK-based family who went to WDW every other year for the last 10years, we don’t feel right going back until at least 2024/2025 due to the great unpleasantness but also construction at WDW, when we do return we want to be looking at purchasing a DVC membership & this video (along with all your others) is so useful thank you!! I have definitely lived and appreciated all your dvc videos. I remember finding you a couple years ago and going back and watching your dvc series and hoping and wishing we could do it someday. Little did I know that we were able to buy in this past year. Sort of not ideal timing bc we wish we could actually go and not keep pushing off and canceling trips but we know it’s there and we will really appreciate it when we can go. Excellent and great information. We stayed at non-Disney half million dollar homes. You get there, they are not ready. The neighbors were drag racing at midnight. Such disrespect. Viewed WDC years ago. We love Disney anyway.
Love the video! I also really feel that sense of ownership/ family with DVC. We just got back from Disney a week ago. It’s funny, when I was in the parks I found myself picking up little bits of trash and discarding when others had thrown it on the ground. I didn’t want any first time visitor thinking our home wasn’t the greatest on earth! I wanted them to have the best experience ever!

Great video, Jen! I sure hope that borrowing rule goes away for our 2022 visit, but I know not to take anything for granted. 50% is better than none! Thank you for sharing that 75% of the dues go to the actual people who are working hard to keep the properties up and running smoothly. I didn't know that and, while I haven't seen them increase enough to upset me since we became members, it helps me have a good outlook on future increases.

Crazy year. I have so many points this year. I banked as many as I could and rented out the rest. I wasn't ready to fly on a plane to Florida from CA. So grateful that someone else can enjoy it.

I really enjoy dvc guests. I love their stories and I love being in a dvc resort bc everyone is so informed and so the guest interactions are more about you and not so much about teaching the same park info. We get to skip straight to : what do you love?
We originally bought in 1998 at BWV and then got addonitis ! As a U.K. buyer we had lots to learn and still pick up new info today. DVC. is a constantly evolving product so well done for the videos
We have 460 points at the Aulani in Oahu. Every year our dues go up. Started at $3000 per year. Now $4100. I want to dump it but my wife wants to keep it. Just know your fees will always go up. My best. Dan. Albuquerque.
Good commentary. I disagree about buying direct vs resale. I’ve done the math multiple times and haven’t found that financially buying direct makes much sense. If you want a particular resort that is scarce on resale then I can understand. Otherwise, I like to save my money for my vacations. The only perk that is worth anything is the discount on AP’s and as you pointed out that can be taken away. I heartily agree with you about dues. As owners, we are also de facto employers. Paying the staff well should be the responsibility of all owners. The same mindset should be taken when dealing with staff. It infuriates me when I see people treating staff poorly. Any issues one has with staff should be addressed through the proper channels and not directly.
The borrowing rules changing really threw us for a loop too - we bought our contract absolutely based on borrowing 100% points. Until there are vaccines for little ones, it's a moot point, but long term this is a big shock for us. I really hope that they switch it back for next year. I love the DVC community. Can' wait to once again return to our home resort. There is great comfort as you said in knowing Disney will be there for decades to come. Happy 3 year RUclips anniversary. It sure does go fast, doesn't it?
The thing about any Vacation Club or timeshare generally is the rules and perks can change and become a shock. The only thing they cannot do is change your points and home resort. The one thing about Disney I didn't realize is they could increase the points needed for a unit every year thus diluting the value of your contract. Other timeshares do it as well but they have to keep some inventory at the same number of points that you originally purchased so you don't lose the complete value of your contract.
Disney has this as well as the total amount of points for the year cannot change. So if they make one time of year more points, they have to make another time of year less. Which doesn't help if you have to go a certain time of year, but we just keep shifting to go during the cheapest time because we are . . cheap. LOL
We just submitted our first attempt at a contract for ROFR 100 points for $145/pt at Polynesian trying not to get too excited until I hear if we pass or not thanks for all your videos they were a big help
Thanks Jen, your videos and several others helped guide me when I purchased OKW direct in July 2020, buying resale was a deal breaker with that 2042 expiration date.
The DVC Fan RUclips channel has posted some throwback videos of some of the original DVC videos. I found it fascinating in there that borrowing started at 50%. That put the current situation in perspective. I also wonder if they expanding borrowing to sell smaller contracts.
Hi Jen, it has been a while for me visiting you channel, glad to be back and that you did this update video. I have a question, which you may not have thought of, say you have a contract that you bought direct from Disney at Vero Beach and as in you case and you found that you weren’t using it or interested in that property anymore, could you go to Disney and work a deal to sell them your current contract and buy a new contract in another resort. This way it is all in one deal and of course it would have to make sense that you are coming out ahead over selling on the resale market and buying a new contract through Disney.
Just when I think I have DVC figured out, I don’t…. Lol. Hubs and I have been discussing purchasing a contract and paying upfront, rather than financing. But where to choose for our home resort? How many points? Questions! 🤯

Hi I love your channel, I was hoping you could do a video maybe like research praise of THE Pizza delivery magick and how It would totally suck if they got rid of it. There's a Disney Rumor that their would no longer have Disney Pizza delivery in resorts. It is funny but I find that so magikal like ordering a pizza from Disney the box with the Disney characters I know it sounds a little much but This would make many so sad. As we look forward to having Disney deliver Pizza to our rooms.
My family will be staying at OKW in June 2021 (non member ) as the current special offers have put it within reach. We visited OKW last week to dine at Olivia's and we really liked the property. We are considering a resale contract or renting points in order to go to Disney every other year. Which would you recommend?
Not sure if I will ever do this kind of serious DW investment [ which it seems like it is] I need to just firstly experience all of DW for the first time. [ yep still the DW newbie!, Nov 2020 cancelled, (3 guesses, first 2 don't count) possible reschedule for Jan/Feb 2023 ] While I'm here and its sort of in the area of DW? What is the car service you use and tout about. DW is suspending Magical Express, I need to look into alternate transport from MCO to AK resort that will be able to handle luggage as well. Also, have you ever been to DW when Festival of Arts is taking place? If so, feedback? reviews?
I've been wondering how old your boys were when you bought DVC. My kids are currently 10, 8, 5, and 2 and while we are pretty comfortable in a family suite at Art of Animation, we think that as the kids get bigger we'll start to want those villas. But we're just not sure when that will be
We started staying in the villas (paying cash, weren't members yet) in 2007 when they were 8 and 11. The in room washer and dryer sort of changed my (vacation) life.😂

Actually, it is FL state law! Bill passed last year. Now one would hope Disney would have done it anyway and I know it was initially part of a union negotiation, but it is now FL state law.
Let me see if I got this right… I calculated at the DVC website a 10-day yearly vacation at the Riviera (the only available at the website) and they recommended me to buy 325+ points at 61k total cost. I used an external calculator for a 10-day stay at the Wilderness Lodge Villa, the cheapest option, which would require me roughly 174 points per vacation. In two years I would’ve ran out of points… is that correct? 😱 325 points wouldn’t be enough for 20 days! Am I dumb and I’m doing the math incorrectly? 🤡

Love your DVC videos! Do more PLEASE!!! Did you know that when DVC first started in 1992 you could only borrow 50 percent of your points from the next year? Don't know when borrowing 100 percent came to be. Sure hope they bring it back soon!! 😀

Information on your first 4 points has been readily available for MANY years. If you were unaware of these points, you should reevaluate where you are sourcing your DVC info.
Just be careful DVC isn't all its cracked up to be. Just had my vacation I planned a year (and reserved) out nixxed by them after they called and told me no room availability 15 days prior to arrival.
@@JenLefforge They said I could go to saratoga springs(which I found totally unacceptable) and that was the best they could do. When I asked to speak to someone about this they said there was no one for me to speak to above them. The attitude was pretty much take it or leave it. Daughters graduation trip just went down in flames. I haven't had the heart to even tell her what happened.
I encourage you to do more research if that's what you believe! Most owners are not uber wealthy and in fact most people with loads of extra money would never consider a timeshare. Be well!
I understand why you would think that. We wouldn't be able to afford to stay at Disney without owning DVC points. We save SO much money! We mostly pay our dues with credit card points. It's pretty amazing! I wouldn't recommend it for someone who doesn't plan to go often, but since we're hooked it works for us to go every 1-2 years, depending on how long we want to stay. Parks tickets? That's another story! Those really add up! Don't see that changing though.
@@natalie4312 We are on the other side of the spectrum. We are semi local (2 hours away). We have annual passes for weekdays only. We stay on property when we have family down for vacation trips, but stay off property when we go ourselves because it saves alot of money and we have stayed on property several times. Also, we can eat just outside the parks before going in. For us, it is better to go on the cheap more often and stay just one or two nights off property. I looked into the DVC thing and I was a bit blown away by how much it costs. It is just my wife and I so we usually stay just off property for under $100 per night. We have been staying at the brand new Universal Dockside hotel that just opened for $79.00 per night, so you can understand why I saw the prices for DVC and was a bit taken aback.
@@blaster-zy7xx Thank you for sharing your experience! It's totally a different ballgame when you live close to Disney. We do not, so we don't have a car when we're there. It's pretty cool that you get to have the freedom to stay and eat where you please and that you can visit Disney at less crowded times! You're right about cash rates for on-property. They are crazy high! This is what lead us to DVC and we are SO glad we did it! We haven't been in two years due to the mess going on. Hope you and your wife are still finding times when you can visit and enjoy.

The thing about any Vacation Club or timeshare generally is the rules and perks can change and become a shock. The only thing they cannot do is change your points and home resort. The one thing about Disney I didn't realize is they could increase the points needed for a unit every year thus diluting the value of your contract. Other timeshares do it as well but they have to keep some inventory at the same number of points that you originally purchased so you don't lose the complete value of your contract.
Disney has this as well as the total amount of points for the year cannot change. So if they make one time of year more points, they have to make another time of year less. Which doesn't help if you have to go a certain time of year, but we just keep shifting to go during the cheapest time because we are . . cheap. LOL
We just submitted our first attempt at a contract for ROFR 100 points for $145/pt at Polynesian trying not to get too excited until I hear if we pass or not thanks for all your videos they were a big help

The DVC Fan RUclips channel has posted some throwback videos of some of the original DVC videos. I found it fascinating in there that borrowing started at 50%. That put the current situation in perspective. I also wonder if they expanding borrowing to sell smaller contracts.

Hi Jen, it has been a while for me visiting you channel, glad to be back and that you did this update video. I have a question, which you may not have thought of, say you have a contract that you bought direct from Disney at Vero Beach and as in you case and you found that you weren’t using it or interested in that property anymore, could you go to Disney and work a deal to sell them your current contract and buy a new contract in another resort. This way it is all in one deal and of course it would have to make sense that you are coming out ahead over selling on the resale market and buying a new contract through Disney.
Just when I think I have DVC figured out, I don’t…. Lol. Hubs and I have been discussing purchasing a contract and paying upfront, rather than financing. But where to choose for our home resort? How many points? Questions! 🤯

Hi I love your channel, I was hoping you could do a video maybe like research praise of THE Pizza delivery magick and how It would totally suck if they got rid of it. There's a Disney Rumor that their would no longer have Disney Pizza delivery in resorts. It is funny but I find that so magikal like ordering a pizza from Disney the box with the Disney characters I know it sounds a little much but This would make many so sad. As we look forward to having Disney deliver Pizza to our rooms.
My family will be staying at OKW in June 2021 (non member ) as the current special offers have put it within reach. We visited OKW last week to dine at Olivia's and we really liked the property. We are considering a resale contract or renting points in order to go to Disney every other year. Which would you recommend?
Not sure if I will ever do this kind of serious DW investment [ which it seems like it is] I need to just firstly experience all of DW for the first time. [ yep still the DW newbie!, Nov 2020 cancelled, (3 guesses, first 2 don't count) possible reschedule for Jan/Feb 2023 ] While I'm here and its sort of in the area of DW? What is the car service you use and tout about. DW is suspending Magical Express, I need to look into alternate transport from MCO to AK resort that will be able to handle luggage as well. Also, have you ever been to DW when Festival of Arts is taking place? If so, feedback? reviews?
I've been wondering how old your boys were when you bought DVC. My kids are currently 10, 8, 5, and 2 and while we are pretty comfortable in a family suite at Art of Animation, we think that as the kids get bigger we'll start to want those villas. But we're just not sure when that will be
We started staying in the villas (paying cash, weren't members yet) in 2007 when they were 8 and 11. The in room washer and dryer sort of changed my (vacation) life.😂

Great video, just one thing it is Disney that is looking to pay employees $15 not the state of Florida.
Actually, it is FL state law! Bill passed last year. Now one would hope Disney would have done it anyway and I know it was initially part of a union negotiation, but it is now FL state law.
Let me see if I got this right… I calculated at the DVC website a 10-day yearly vacation at the Riviera (the only available at the website) and they recommended me to buy 325+ points at 61k total cost.
I used an external calculator for a 10-day stay at the Wilderness Lodge Villa, the cheapest option, which would require me roughly 174 points per vacation.
In two years I would’ve ran out of points… is that correct? 😱 325 points wouldn’t be enough for 20 days!
Am I dumb and I’m doing the math incorrectly? 🤡
The points reload every year. So you’d have enough points for 10 days every year.

Within one month the price per point went from $165 to $201. They’re definitely getting the business.
$165 is for OKW I don’t believe it’s jumped up (although anything is possible!)

Love your DVC videos! Do more PLEASE!!! Did you know that when DVC first started in 1992 you could only borrow 50 percent of your points from the next year? Don't know when borrowing 100 percent came to be. Sure hope they bring it back soon!! 😀

Information on your first 4 points has been readily available for MANY years. If you were unaware of these points, you should reevaluate where you are sourcing your DVC info.
Just be careful DVC isn't all its cracked up to be. Just had my vacation I planned a year (and reserved) out nixxed by them after they called and told me no room availability 15 days prior to arrival.

@@JenLefforge They said I could go to saratoga springs(which I found totally unacceptable) and that was the best they could do. When I asked to speak to someone about this they said there was no one for me to speak to above them. The attitude was pretty much take it or leave it. Daughters graduation trip just went down in flames. I haven't had the heart to even tell her what happened.

I think DVC is for people who have too much money in their hands.
I encourage you to do more research if that's what you believe! Most owners are not uber wealthy and in fact most people with loads of extra money would never consider a timeshare. Be well!
I understand why you would think that. We wouldn't be able to afford to stay at Disney without owning DVC points. We save SO much money! We mostly pay our dues with credit card points. It's pretty amazing! I wouldn't recommend it for someone who doesn't plan to go often, but since we're hooked it works for us to go every 1-2 years, depending on how long we want to stay. Parks tickets? That's another story! Those really add up! Don't see that changing though.
@@natalie4312 We are on the other side of the spectrum. We are semi local (2 hours away). We have annual passes for weekdays only. We stay on property when we have family down for vacation trips, but stay off property when we go ourselves because it saves alot of money and we have stayed on property several times. Also, we can eat just outside the parks before going in. For us, it is better to go on the cheap more often and stay just one or two nights off property. I looked into the DVC thing and I was a bit blown away by how much it costs. It is just my wife and I so we usually stay just off property for under $100 per night. We have been staying at the brand new Universal Dockside hotel that just opened for $79.00 per night, so you can understand why I saw the prices for DVC and was a bit taken aback.
@@blaster-zy7xx Thank you for sharing your experience! It's totally a different ballgame when you live close to Disney. We do not, so we don't have a car when we're there. It's pretty cool that you get to have the freedom to stay and eat where you please and that you can visit Disney at less crowded times! You're right about cash rates for on-property. They are crazy high! This is what lead us to DVC and we are SO glad we did it! We haven't been in two years due to the mess going on. Hope you and your wife are still finding times when you can visit and enjoy.
