When the squid sisters used to shout in ink me up during splatfest, it would depend on which team was losing at the time! If Marie's team was losing then marie would shout, and if callies team was losing then callie would shout. Kind of like a bit of motivation for each team
My first splatfest ever was Inkling vs Octoling in Splatoon 2. At the time however, my switch wouldn't connect to the Wi-Fi at my house (for context, the router was too old or something) so I had to play the majority of the splatfest at my grandparent's house, I chose team octoling because I didn't have the octo expansion and I wanted to play as one. And even though I lost, it was still incredibly fun. Shortly after that splatfest, my parents got a newer router, and I was able to play in every splatfest after. Splatfests are such happy little memories of mine, I hope splatoon 3 will have events like them.
Damn, feel bad for you guys I miss the good old days of the splatfests, sadly I only played a day of the last splatfest, but it was still a lot of fun, I’m still angry that team order got completely wiped tho
the telephone ringing is the creepiest easter egg to me, as it seems like the map is a place people go on the regular even outside of turf wars. imagine walking through your town at night and just hearing a random payphone ringing and answering itself.
i remember the "do you prefer pancakes or waffles?" Dialogue. It was in one of the stages that I definitely can't remember the number or name of rn as I haven't done hero mode in ages but I remember it as being in one of the stages where you were on a moving platform and had to splat the enemies as they spawned.
That sounds just about right. Tbh I didn't even go through all the levels to see I only checked the overworld dialogue since I had a vague memory of it being in the world 5 marie dialogue.

Nice iceberg! I wanted to add one thing that I was thinking about while watching. Marina's "simulation" comment during the chicken vs egg Splatfest is actually very much in character. She had been hypnotized and controlled her whole life by the Octarian army, so she of all people would know that even though she's not hypnotized, she's still programmed to say specific things, not unlike her time in the army. Just something I wanted to point out.
It's ambiguous as to whether the Octolings were hypnotised or not. IMO the chat logs in Splatoon 2 imply that it was more like brainwashing (in the realistic sense, like people brainwashed in a cult), not hypnotisation, and that hearing Calamari Inkantation induced a kind of spiritual awakening or enlightenment that gave Marina and other Octolings the will to leave their society.

Very interesting! Never knew about the Australian getting one region one game and the other region the next. And wow I forgot about the top 10 thing I remember hearing about it but forgot about it when making this video. And yeah I did know about the tie thing but I suppose I never thought about putting it on the iceberg.

It's been so long I honestly forgot a lot of the choices I made, but I do distinctly recall being on Team Burger.
One quirk is I worked nights during Splatoon 1’s peak, so I was almost exclusively matched with Japanese players during my playtime from time zone differences. This meant my Splatfest experience was usually a mess as I was so used to JP players and strats and connections.
I still remember that one splatfest in splatoon 2 where we (team mayo) lost with only 0,76% difference to ketchup on the pro mode... It was so painfull to lose that splatfest
i used to have online friends to play splatfests with during the first few months of splatoon 2. after we lost contact i rarely RARELY played splatfests, and i didnt play the final splatfest, its something i still regret. i need new friends to play with
As a fellow member of Team Ice Cream, yeah, we sucked ass from my experience. I think most of it was due to new players not knowing how to play, and most of them picking Marina's team because "she's hot." We won, but even I thought we shouldn't have.
41:49 i actually found out if you private battle and do splatfest mode, and activate the cinnamoroll VS hello kitty, (white and light blue ink) and go on goby arena, the white ink is SO bright that it almost looks like everything is disappearing. (match it with ninja squid for extra pain, you can’t even see the lines in the ink!) and yes, this holds true to this day 5/8/22
From the future; With how chaos won over order in Splatoon 2's final splatfest, the splatlands (where the third game takes place) have a more positively chaotic setting. There are those barren wastelands yes, but the hosts for the splatfests are more diverse than before, thus adding to the "chaos" of the game. Plus it's implied that DJ Octavio may help us in story mode, so there's that too
I still have a clip of winning a 100x splatfest in mayo v.s. ketchup. We won by 0.3% after getting demolished most of the game. Still one of my favorite memories with splatoon 2!
11:44 they had a fucking race war. For fun. Just a reminder that the Inklings and Octolings fight with ink just so they are constantly murdering each other and themselves, because simply not having wars or bloodsports isn't an option for them apparently.
Honestly I really love topic of Splatfests. I only got to experience a couple in Splatoon 2 (first one was Wizard vs Knight), but they have always been quite interesting to me and an HOUR long video such as this one is perfect. Learning about Splatfest mechanics and aspects about previous Splatfests scratches an itch I didn’t even know I had. If there’s enough information, I’d love a video about Splatoon 3’s Splatfests someday!
During the section at 12:43 you forgot to mention a piece of dialogue from section 1 of Marina's chatroom where Pearl says to Marina; MC.Princess > aka DJ Cold Breakfast, aka The Fuzzy Dazzler, aka DJ Catch-and-Release (Credit to Inkipedia) This references the Warm Breakfast vs Cold Breakfast splatfest that was held in PAL regions only in November 2017
when i first watched this and you said at the end how the video is over an hour long, i was really surprised because i'm really picky about the type of long videos that i watch i'm rewatching this video again now because of well made it is. if you make more videos like this, i'll be sure to watch them!
4:09 I had 2 100X matches in the Mario Splatfest. And at least 5 or 6 10X battles that same splatfest. I guess I got lucky compared to the odds even though I was on the heavy chosen Star team lol
I forgot to mention that the increased 100x battle odds were still in effect after Chaos VS Order so the Mario splatfest had the "1/250" estimated odds not the 1/22,000 odds
20:28 note: this trailer ALSO does show Rice vs Bread, the Japanese Exclusive 'first' Splatfest, but is harder to notice in the trailer due to having the same ink colors as Cat vs Dog.
Forgot to mention but the increased 100x battle odds were still in effect for all splatfests after chaos vs order (so in your case mayo vs ketchup #2 had the 1/250 odds)
I’ve never seen anything saying that inklings don’t have tongues? Plus there’s a few bits of artwork that show characters like Pearl and Marina with tongues visible. I think the fact that they don’t have one in the games is just a choice made for simplifying the models.
Another thing I noticed that (i think) wasn't mentioned here is that in splat 2, the 10x animation seemed to be a bit "off-centred" for some splatfests. I don't know which but I know it was some. This is something that has been bugging me since 2019 and heres a good chance to say it.
Oh you're right! Yeah I noticed it too it seemed that for the global splatfests (like splatoween, frostyfest, etc.) the 10x battle text appeared "larger"? Meanwhile in "regular" splatfests it is more centered and smaller text. Very strange.
32:02 i always thought the telephone ringing was a reference to octo expansion because the garbled noises at the end reminded me of tartar. Evidence of playable octolings were found in splat 1 so its not a stretch that the devs had octo expansion planned for a long time.
I remember first hearing about the creepy inkwell academy phone, and I’m just now realizing it could be related to Octo Expansion and it’s very own creepy phone
I got the first Splatoon game soon after it came out, and I fondly remember playing the first Splatfest (Cats vs. Dogs) for way too many hours. And I bought a Switch the day the Splatoon 2 test fire with Cake vs Ice Crean came out, so I could participate. Splatfests are really just fancy-looking turf wars but there's something so exciting about them!! Can't wait for the first Splatoon 3 one...even though the topic is stupid (gear vs grub vs fun)
Ik I’m late, but I translated the Rock vs Pop alternate dialogue Marina: KYA! POP!! Pearl: HUH? Seriously~~? Marina: Everyone at “Pop” did it! It was amazing! I was really moved~ Pearl: it was amazing to catch up with “Rock”, but it was a bit too much! Pearl: this eve was fun! I’m looking forward to the next one!! Marina: Let’s raise the bar even more! Thank you everyone! (I used google translate so sorry if it’s choppy)
oh and btw, splatoon 3 will have a global version instead of the latter’s NA, EU, and Japanese versions. So there will likely not be any region-locked splatfests. EDIT: i stand corrected. It appears there will be region-specific splatfests, however it seems players will be able to choose what splatfest they would like to participate in.
24:50 even though you wont see the name.. I will definetly remember the clothes and gear of a trolling player or annoying player in splatoon. They often keep the same gear and weapons because they made it with abilities specifically for the weapons they like the most

I forgot to mention that all the splatfests after chaos vs order still had the increased 100x battle odds. It's only about 1/22,000 for splatfests before chaos vs order. (For the global splatfests at least)
Hana vs. Dango is not really translated but rather just romanised (花 [hana] and 団子 [dango]), which really makes the fan translation more… well, translated. I bet many others said it already, but yeah. Just a little fun fact.

I unfortunately missed all the splatfests for the first game and only caught the mushroom vs star splatfests and missed all splatfests from 2017 and the final fest in splatoon 2 This was mostly due to me not getting the consoles during those times the events where happening.
Holy moley, there's so much I didn't know about until I saw this! I applaud the insane effort put into this!
I didn't know you were here Eppy
Honestly I really love topic of Splatfests. I only got to experience a couple in Splatoon 2 (first one was Wizard vs Knight), but they have always been quite interesting to me and an HOUR long video such as this one is perfect. Learning about Splatfest mechanics and aspects about previous Splatfests scratches an itch I didn’t even know I had. If there’s enough information, I’d love a video about Splatoon 3’s Splatfests someday!
this video is pretty well made, props to you for putting this all together. nice work.
During the section at 12:43 you forgot to mention a piece of dialogue from section 1 of Marina's chatroom where Pearl says to Marina;
MC.Princess > aka DJ Cold Breakfast, aka The Fuzzy Dazzler, aka DJ Catch-and-Release (Credit to Inkipedia)
This references the Warm Breakfast vs Cold Breakfast splatfest that was held in PAL regions only in November 2017
Oh wow I never knew that! Thanks for letting me know about that :)
wait, isn't "Fuzzy Dazzler" the name of an artists that made one of the splatoon 3 lobby songs???
when i first watched this and you said at the end how the video is over an hour long, i was really surprised because i'm really picky about the type of long videos that i watch
i'm rewatching this video again now because of well made it is. if you make more videos like this, i'll be sure to watch them!
@@Coldeggman Ah okay that explains a lot :D
20:28 note: this trailer ALSO does show Rice vs Bread, the Japanese Exclusive 'first' Splatfest, but is harder to notice in the trailer due to having the same ink colors as Cat vs Dog.
I had no idea 100x battles were so rare. I've gotten them twice before, and I think one was during the second ketchup vs mayo splatfest
God I really hope splatfests return in splat 3 I really miss them. Great vid btw!
When the Final Splatfest of Splatoon 2 was going on, a tornado came though my neighborhood and I got disconnected from playing.
With this was such a fascinating watch I can't believe you actually managed to make a 1 hour video of splatfest lore
Man this video needs a lot more love! Splatfests is for me the best part of Splatoon and what makes it stand out from other shooters
45:52 while watching this video i didnt expect to see my past self in it, honestly caught me by surprise lmao
LMAO thats awesome
I remember first hearing about the creepy inkwell academy phone, and I’m just now realizing it could be related to Octo Expansion and it’s very own creepy phone
I thought I was the only one who noticed that Mushroom vs Star colors weren't available...
Nice to know I'm not alone
I got the first Splatoon game soon after it came out, and I fondly remember playing the first Splatfest (Cats vs. Dogs) for way too many hours. And I bought a Switch the day the Splatoon 2 test fire with Cake vs Ice Crean came out, so I could participate. Splatfests are really just fancy-looking turf wars but there's something so exciting about them!! Can't wait for the first Splatoon 3 one...even though the topic is stupid (gear vs grub vs fun)
the thing about the simulation dialouge from Marina actually kinda makes sense a little because she wears headphones and is the DJ
Highest splatfest power was achieved by Dynamon, to probably nobody's surprised.
My favorite splatfest fact is that the Testfire for splatoon 2 has the BEST version of Inkoming
Ik I’m late, but I translated the Rock vs Pop alternate dialogue
Marina: KYA! POP!!
Pearl: HUH? Seriously~~?
Marina: Everyone at “Pop” did it! It was amazing! I was really moved~
Pearl: it was amazing to catch up with “Rock”, but it was a bit too much!
Pearl: this eve was fun! I’m looking forward to the next one!!
Marina: Let’s raise the bar even more! Thank you everyone!
(I used google translate so sorry if it’s choppy)
I was in a 100x battle for Chaos vs Order. That was intense
Don't mind me rewatching this for like the fifth time to get myself hype for grandfest
oh and btw, splatoon 3 will have a global version instead of the latter’s NA, EU, and Japanese versions. So there will likely not be any region-locked splatfests.
EDIT: i stand corrected. It appears there will be region-specific splatfests, however it seems players will be able to choose what splatfest they would like to participate in.
Very interesting how that will play out. Like you choose which theme is your favorite amongst the 3 regions each time.
haha obanyaki go brrrrr
24:50 even though you wont see the name.. I will definetly remember the clothes and gear of a trolling player or annoying player in splatoon. They often keep the same gear and weapons because they made it with abilities specifically for the weapons they like the most
Coldeggman: “If you’re watching this in the future when splatoon 3 is out…”
Me: “My time has come.”
Watching this because of lag of Splatoon 3 news and because it got recommended from the algorithm XD. Always like to watch Splatoon lore and iceberg videos to kill time and get refreshed on Splatoon lore :D
My god this is just what I needed to satisfy my inner nerd for Splatoon... Thank you so much for this. Props to all the research you did for this vid. How did I not find this sooner. I hate the YT algorithm so freaking much...
Also 10:04 I think you meant to say clothes and not chose. Maybe give a heads up in a pinned comment?
@@RyneMcKinney nah I meant to say chose as in the team players chose did not matter on if they wanted to wear the wizard or knight outfit, it didn't matter if they were on team knight or team wizard.
i remember making a tweet when i was like 8 saying smthn along the lines of "Damn it! Splatoon Splatfest is postponed in North America!" after the news came out about cats vs dogs. ahh memories
awesome video!! there were several things ive never noticed despite playing the game for so long - like the small pearl/marina icons on the splatfest artwork itself! also i remember the art vs. science splatfest from splatoon 1 being very close as well
13:07 can confirm it does exist (she only says it when talking with calie though)
Haha "2 sides", you sweet summer child
This is a very interesting video and it connects so many things I never realized before! This is a super cool iceberg vid
>100x odds are about 1/22,000
...I got two in the Ketchup v Mayo rematch and we lost _both._ brb gonna cry
I forgot to mention that all the splatfests after chaos vs order still had the increased 100x battle odds. It's only about 1/22,000 for splatfests before chaos vs order. (For the global splatfests at least)
@@Coldeggman Ah. It still stings, but at least its not on the level of something like a double shiny fail.
Hana vs. Dango is not really translated but rather just romanised (花 [hana] and 団子 [dango]), which really makes the fan translation more… well, translated.
I bet many others said it already, but yeah. Just a little fun fact.
Huh, I never knew that
My forst splatfest was Fancy Party vs Costume Party. We may have lost, but god it was so much fun. I still miss the special weapons in Splatoon 1, Inkstrike will be missed
I find it funny that my first and last splatfest was the Chaos Vs Order for Splatoon 2, fun as hell and I wonder what will happen during Splatoon 3
I also remember Marie asking something like do you prefer pancakes or waffles
I don't always participate in splatfests, mostly because I just forget to, but i'll never forget the transformers splatfest. That was probably my favorite.
The pre singing vs dancing colour theme could have also been a teaser to cake vs ice cream as well maybe?
I do know most of this information but I didn’t about some of the other stuff mentioned. Great Video!
damn i miss splatfests man, getting home and seeing team names was the best feeling ever
I unfortunately missed all the splatfests for the first game and only caught the mushroom vs star splatfests and missed all splatfests from 2017 and the final fest in splatoon 2 This was mostly due to me not getting the consoles during those times the events where happening. (I got my wiiu. Christmas 2017 and my switch Christmas 2020). It sucks I missed all the splatfests but I’m happy I got to play one and experience it :) (I took screenshots of it so I have memories of it saved on my switch too).
13:08 I actually liked talking to Marie a lot and I also remember that line clearly, and when the splatfest happened I was just like huh??
Watching this while a splatoon 3 splatfest (if your watching this in the future its the Gear vs Grub vs Fun/what would you bring to a deserted island splatfest
This video was amazing, I miss these splatfests. I remember when I first got splatoon on Wii U I didn't know about them and it was magical learining about it.

If time travel to the future wins, the next game will be taking place in the future
oh thats so ironic
This video is sick! Hopefully this gets more views that it deserves
27:29 : Man you're good! I had to activate color blindness for that one because the colors where too similar for me.
As somebody who eats chocorooms and chococones I find it incredible to see a boardgame about them.
34:18 - That's my JP toon rocking that Dexterity shirt! 😁
cut/extra splatoon content has always interested me, hell cut nintendo stuff in general due to how secretivd they are especially in terms of data
13:11 I swear I got that dialog when I first started hero mode!
That was so interesting to watch!
Great job man! Learned a lot new about Splatfests even after all these years
39:50, if there's a Mario V.S. Luigi Splatfest, Team Luigi will win by doing absolutely nothing :D
yes.
( help you almost cracked me up too much)
I rarely play splatoon anymore but i still really really love the game, im definitely gonna try to become more active when splat 3 finally comes out :D
update i have played nothing but splatoon for the past 2 days
I’m doing the same rn good job
@@emo-nordegraf have u played a lot 🤔
"And Europe" proceeds to show the flag of England who is not even in the Euro anymore
Yeah I was made aware of that lol
If anyone wants to know what the nickname of the removed player from Sci-Fi vs Fantasy, the name was "Thick Nïg."
That's it.
Omg I remember the time I was in a 100x battle and the worst thing is that I lost because someone threw a splat bomb at the last second (like 0.5)
38:33 frye casually gave all the inklings tounges
Watch article 4 of splatfest law not only activate with Order Vs. Chaos but also regular Splatoon 3 splatfests. For example, Rock winning could’ve had some sort of balancing effect when it comes to Table Turf Battle.
Maybe. Although it'd be funny if splatfest law didn't exisit in Splatoon 3 because of the anarchy nature of everything lol
Decadent red vs TASTY WHITE?!?! Are you kidding???? Lol
You weren't crazy, Marie said that to me too!
13:04 She actually asks something along the lines of "Pancakes or puffed pancakes? What would you choose, Agent 4?" in the Dutch translation of Splatoon 2.
Be prepared for the influx of misinformed people who didn’t hear you saying that this only covers splat 1 and 2 and go “wHy No SpLaToOn 3???!??!??.!?,!!”
