Thanks so much to Drew for sitting down with us! If you want to hear more from him, drop him a follow over on Instagram: instagram.com/thedrewsmithers/
I first heard Drew play when I first heard Bishop Gunn in early 2017. Was immediately drawn into their sound and story, and followed that band for 3 years when they toured through the Midwest, seeing them live 4 times, the last time in Dallas, July 2019, at a small 200-person venue the night after they opened for The Stones in Houston. Stood right in front of Drew and watched him do his magic with that guitar. Such an awesome, genuine guy. While I was sad to see Bishop Gunn break up in Feb 2020, I’m happy that Drew found ‘home’ with Marcus King Band.
Saw mkb a couple months back and I was right next to Drew’s amp , he tore it up! Unreal slide chops and how he keeps up with the momentum of that band with no pick is wild.
Great interview. What a lovely pair of humans. Definitely going to keep my eyes open for anything Drew does in the future... and might have to try some 10-13-15-26-32-38's
dude I actually organized a festival many many years ago with my old band Purpetrator down in Hattiesburg, MS and we had a band Drew was in headline one year. that band was called Otis. they were out of Chicago and very neo-soul female-lead type stuff. they were great. he's done so much since then. man it's wild how things end up going.
i met Drew during the pilgrimage festival when he was with Bishop Gun. i hate that band fell apart, but glad he is with Marcus. Met his family and they all seem to be great folks. Dude is a killer slider player.
Thank you for the video I met Drew in Columbus Ohio he is a class act professional I’m big Marcus king fan an a guitar nut I thoroughly enjoyed the video and hope to meet up with Drew once again day soon. 👍🏾🎸
I 1st saw Drew in Bishop Gunn opening for Blackberry Smoke in Key West. They broke up shortly after at the beginning of Covid. I went specifically to see him with Jaimo & then when he joined up with MKB. My issue with seeing him w/ Marcus is they buried him stage left, behind a tower of lights. In MKB, they really didn't let him play much solo. I ge t it, it's the MKB - not the Drew Smithers Band, but really nothing up front on his own. The best part of the show was them bringing Duane Betts out for 3-song encore. Drew is way better than Betts & still he didn't get to show his chops. I left disappointed.
Well, VH is dead. Half of the two guitars, forming that one BIG GUITAR, is dead. And if we’re being absolutely real here… and if Marcus King’s absolutely has gotten better with every show that I have seen. I’ve driven to Nashville, six hours from where I live, to see a 35 to 40 minute pop-up show he did for the release of “El Dorado” and it was worth every second. I was blown away with that show and thinking he was at his prime… saw him again in September 2022 and the band was a completely different set up… it’s actually the lineup, the videos referencing. And it was absolutely the most amazing guitar playing I’ve ever seen. My wife gives no shits about guitar playing and I watched her get the stank face for the first time. Definitely go see a show when you get a chance, brother. The album is not even a fraction of what you get a life show with a whole band😊

I first heard drew when he decided to start playing guitar in high school and we would chill in his parent’s basement. Miss you bro!
What a chill dude! I love his playing and attitude. His playing fits in perfectly with Marcus'.

What?? These guys are so much more interesting? How many thousands of videos and interviews are of band like AC-DC?
