    Great Q&A video, Dave. ND filters and polarizers are great first additions to the Pocket 2 arsenal, but the greatest bang for the buck (for me, at least) was the addition of a tiny 4th axis stabilizer, in my case from Scotty Makes Stuff. Inexpensive, easy to dial in, and the combo yields silky smooth footage, even at a run. No more "toot pinching" for me LOL! 😂.
    Would love to see a video from you showcasing this combo as it might help a lot of P2 users get better results for not much money.

    • @DavidDavies
      @DavidDavies  3 года назад +1

      Thanks Michael, you know what's funny I have not tried the Scotty's 4th axis but I was send another 4th axis from another company for free, they just sent me it no questions asked, I tried it and I hated it, it made things so much worse and I didn't like using it. I love using just the camera itself in my hand. HOWEVER, I think Scotty's products are much better quality and would work better. I may look into it and give it a try. Do you always use the 4th axis when you shoot?

      @@DavidDavies
      Actually, I rarely use it as I mostly shoot interview-style or atmospheric. Not much run-n-gun. However, when I do need to scoot and shoot, I find Scotty's 4th axis makes my footage butter smooth. Give it a try.

    Dave I really enjoy your videos. So helpful and you are fun to listen to! I really like my pocket2 for all the reasons you described today. My only detractor is figuring out my exposure on the display. I shoot outside with sunlight changing and on the fly almost all the time. Getting the camera set correctly on the little screen is frustrating for an old guy like me. I can hardly tell what the screen shows sometimes.
    If i connect my phone for mimo it takes easily 60 seconds which is a perfect way to use the pocket2 i will admit. However in that 60 seconds, the shot opportunity is usually already be gone and the camera becomes more bulky. Any suggestions on how to know if your focus and exposure setting are doing ok throughout a shoot without the mimo app? Or a "best practice" way to Vlog with pocket2 ?
    I just want the "fun" that you describe we should looking to have when we film and end up with usable footage when the day is done. 👍
    Thank you for this Video today

      Sorry you are having issues with the camera, it can be frustrating for sure. Have you tried shooting in full auto mode, are you still having the exposure issue. I don't really like using the phone attached, as I like the small form factor of the Pocket 2. Using the EV meter does help as you try to keep it as close to 0 as possible. If I am using continuous auto focus I trust it to get my focus but once I change a subject to shoot I always touch the screen to reset the focus point. Good luck, and what kind of RV do you have? Our family is into tent camping but wow, those Rvs look fun.

    Dave again great video, but I still have one question, does the pocket 2 has zoom functionality?

    • @DavidDavies
      @DavidDavies  2 года назад +1

      Thanks Ricardo, it does have a zoom function. It is a digital zoom so it can affect the quality when you zoom in. In the menu you have the option of making the joystick control the zoom or the pan / tilt. I hope that helps.

    Hi Dave! Love these videos. Thank you! Quick question- do you know a way to lock exposure in auto mode? Sometimes I don't mind the balance shifting but other times it can take away from the immersion of a moment.

    • @DavidDavies
      @DavidDavies  3 года назад +1

      I don't think there is a way to lock the exposure if you are shooting in auto mode. I now shoot in manual mode where I can control most aspects of the camera. I know some cameras allow you to lock the exposure once you start recording which is a smart move but I am not sure if it works with the Pocket 2.

      The set I have now is the all day ND set from Freewell. It is a set with ND and Polarizers built in. I really like it but it is a bit expensive. I do like the look of the added polarizers.

    I've got a problem that my pocket 2 is NOT showing/recording/reproducing audio with the all in one handle and wifi mic. There is supposed to be a microphone icon on the screen when filming but it is not there even though the mic is linked with the pocket 2. PLEASE HELP. Thanks, Nick from Australia.

    Hi Dave, thanks for the video really helpful. I am planning to buy one of these also but something keeps me bugging. I am neither a youtuber nor a pro, just want to take vlogs with my family. Do you think it will suffice without creator combo or would you recommend investing now rather than paying more later? I know it is kind of whatever you need question but just wanted to pick your thoughts.

    • @DavidDavies
      @DavidDavies  3 года назад +1

      That's a good question. I started using the original Osmo Pocket as my family camera, I took it to Disney, it was perfect. I would skip creator combo for now. I would try the internal mic and see if it is good enough for your needs. Then if not go for the do it all handle, the wireless mic is decent. But I would start small and use it for a while then you will figure out what your needs are. Good luck.

    What about timelapse: Is it possible to shoot 4k resolution timelapse video?

    • @DavidDavies
      @DavidDavies  3 года назад +2

      Hi Dmitri, yes you can. If set your timelapse format settings to RAW + VIDEO, the pocket will record a regular 1080p video but it will also create raw stills which are pretty much 4k quality still photos. If you take those still photos into an editing software, final cut or premiere you can import them and it will create a 4k video for you. I do it all the time. Let me know if it works for you?

  • @martysender5539

    Dave. why do I have to reset to original settings each time I fire it up. Often, if I don't the video has micro jitters in corners. reset parameters, then choose my settings, and gimbal behaves and footage is gimbal smooth. turn if off, wait a while, turn on camera, and again, video is jittery. so i reset, re choose settings, and all if fine. WHY? Marty of Marty Sender You Tube

    • @DavidDavies
      @DavidDavies  3 года назад

      Hey Marty, sorry this is happening. I have never had this happen to me. My camera always remembers the previous settings. Are you using it with the Mimo app or just the camera itself? You may have a defective camera?

    • @martysender5539
      @martysender5539 3 года назад

      @@DavidDavies hope not. past 30 days. hey it works fine if I just reset, takes a few secs and gimbal is smooth. activated with app, but no, don't use app or phone with camera. i'm minimalist as are you, you say. just the camera. havent done firmware upgrade because I see no real benefit from it, and 1080 so called HDR really is not much diff than regular 1080. but yes, I make sure now before I fire it up, i reset parameters, choose settings, and off I go, gimbal is smooth. don't do that? micro jitters. defective? maybe. I don't think so though. I must be doing something wrong. should I do that gimbal leveling adjustment procedure? hey years ago I did some radio work for CBC Sunday Morning program from here in DC. where are you a "TV producer" ?

    How long you can record after it overheats? Using Pocket 1 I can record until sd card is full or battery ends. But I have to send Pocket 2 back to them under warranty. I ordered it the same day it was released. Using tripod without touching it at all from total cold to overheated and crashing files after 16 minutes when 4k/24fps battery quality. With Handle and wireless mic it records under 10 minutes and then it stopped recording and crashed files. And after overheating it stops recording after 2-4 minutes. Indoor temp 18C and it overheats even outdoors where -2C. I have tried everything. I have 7 cards for 4k. Cards are not problem. My question is What are your longest recordings using 4k? I feel Pocket 2 quality not the same as it is with Pocket 1. Lets see what recording time is when I get it back from repairs. I have spent insane amount for accessories for Pocket line so I hope I will get working device.

    • @DavidDavies
      @DavidDavies  3 года назад

      Hey Juha, sorry to hear this. That's got to be frustrating. I haven't really had that issues, it does heat up, especially like you mentioned when shooting in 4k but I have not had it stop recording or crash on me. The longest I shot with it was about 15 minutes in video mode and 30 minutes in Motion Lapse mode and it worked fine. Maybe you just got a defective model? Hopefully you can return it and get one that works. I wonder if many other people of the same issue as you do. It really sucks especially that you have already invested in the accessories, you just want the camera to work. Good luck and keep me posted.

      @@DavidDavies It was defective Core Board and DJI changed it to a new Core Board and posted it back to me. So if Pocket 2 is overheating under 10 minutes or under 20 minutes without any accessories under normal temperature your device is defective. Pocket 2 is video camera and it should keep recording under normal temperatures just like camcorders even if world ends. Thank god they repaired it. I will get my lilliput home again with new processor.

      @@DavidDavies Hi. Been a lot of inspecting. I got brand new Pocket 2 Replacement. But what I also noticed is that with latest firmware Pocket 2 cannot use Kingston memory cards. They will eventually stop recording even those made for 4k and all their U3 V30 A2 cards. This started with latest firmware. I have shared this finding with DJI. Western Digital aka Sandisk works even those are slower than Kingston cards. I have reported 4 different Kingston models and all stops recording at some point without saying anything.

      @@juhaaavalaakso455 oh man, sorry to hear that. That's frustrating. Are you formatting the cards in the Pocket 2 before recording? If you are and it's still stopping then that is a real issue. Anyways, good luck.
