"You never know when you want to whip it out and use it" ... words to live by
Thanks John, now don't get me into trouble...my wife already got mad at me for that line 😀
😂😂😂
Just ran across this video and it was fantastic .. seen a lot of product and explainer videos out there but yours was well paced , simple and sprinkled with a little humor above all you get right to the point . I just got my pocket 2 and all of your tips are going to help me just get better and better . Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and doing it so well .
I whip it out a lot, and show people what it is. They see that I am very skilled at using it. Whip it out carefully, or you’ll scratch it on a coat or pocket zipper.
I have had mine for a while, and love it!
This video is helpful! Thanks Dave for listing these common mistakes.
Thanks Dave. Wonderful stuff.
Excellent Video. I’ve been using my P2 for nearly a year - but have (belatedly) learned a few things today.
Thanks, Dave. I’m just starting out and you’ve been very helpful.
Mine is on the way. Thanks Dave!
Thanks so much.. that answered a lot of questions I had.. Great video!!
I just bought this gorgeous cam, nice video, good explained, thanks!
Very useful and practical advices, thank you very much 🙏
That may be the cutest little camera I have ever seen! Thanks for sharing your mistakes!
Thank you for all the details..😍😍
Very interesting video. I will be keeping these tips/mistakes in mind when I get mine tomorrow.
Wow.. spot on … thanks millions🎉
Thank you for sharing. Very useful suggestions, I'll follow them.
Excellent video. Thanks for sharing.
I love honest mistakes you shared and walking as if you're holding your gas made me laugh. Have a great weekend!
I loved this video, I had no idea where the mics were located and you just saved me so many headaches
Excelente job
I really appreciate your insights, energy, and openness. Well done! I get my Pocket 2 today and I found your video very helpful.
Wow, thank you for your comment. I am glad you liked the video. Good luck with the Pocket 2. Be patient with it. It's a weird little camera! Have fun!
Awesome. Thank you,.
Very useful tips, thanks!
So great to watch. Thanks! :-)
SUper tips! Holistic tips!
i love it. i have osmo pocket 2 this year. i will keep watching your video tips.
Thank you.
Thank you for the tips very informative
Thank for this
Great to hear those tips, just bought one and is coming in this week, thank you for the video!!!
Nice, good luck with it. I hope you enjoy it. It can be tough at first but just be patient.
The 'holding in a toot' walk is the best kept unofficial secret of keeping your gimble steady + a solid tip! Thanks Dave.
Thanks Narla, you just get me!
What’s a toot?
@@SFCFilms That's the question
@@SFCFilms walk as if you are far from home and you gotta take an urgent trip to the can but you gotta hold it in for a while 😂
toot = 💩
Thanks for your advise Sir. :)) just bought this little thing the other day :))
This is an absolute banger of a video! Lol learned a lot. Been spending much more time with my pocket 2 and these tips helped. Also! Earned a sub!!!
Thanks for the kind comment
Good tips. Thank you.
Wonderful list of mistakes! I just got mine about a week ago and am slowly learning more about it. It's going to be my main video camera for my PCT attempt this summer so I want to know as much as I can about it.
Nice, good for you. It should be good for the PCT. I would love to see the footage when you are done
Very valuable and well presented! Thank you very much! Have a great day ahead :)
Great video, all great points
thanks Dave, this was very educational. You explain it clear and simple. My "word of the Day" for today is going to be "toot" for me. (I gotto use seven times in a day to make sure to sunk it in...) Good luck to me. :)
Thank you! We just bought one today, gonna take good care of it! 😄
Nice. I hope you enjoy it. It can be frustrating at time but with a little practice it will be great for you.
Holding in a toot is probably the absolute best way to describe the skills required for using most gimbals. Brilliant.
ya, my wife didn't like me saying that!
My dream is Pocket 2, but here in Brazil the price is very high, I can't wait to have an opportunity to buy and improve the quality of my videos. Congratulations on the video.
Now! Thanks for the video.
Excellent Video thanks for sharing…. 👍😉😎
I love it when grand pa Tintin explains about pocket 2.
Great video mate! 👍
good video, cheers
Dji creator combo 🔥
Thanks, Dave. All good things to be aware of. For stability with my old (but great and solid as a rock!) Sony Handycam I do the smooth walked aided by having it on a Gorillapod with a couple of the legs splayed out for an attempted at balance. I may keep up the practice for the P2.
Thanks Terry, ah the good old Sony Handycams!
@@DavidDavies It is still giving me great service after about 10 years (got it for my son's wedding in Russia). It has been dropped on the road and on hard tiled floors, I've even had it handed back to me having lost it out of my pocket on a hill trek, and it still goes on. I've done all but one of my 200+ RUclipss using it (iPhone 6 for one). The Pocket 2 has a lot to live up to! I won't abandon the Handycam.;-)

Great video! I'm thinking of buying one, too.
Good luck if you do. Don't blame me if you don't like it 😀 Just kidding, I love this camera.
I'm making a research about vlogging cameras , thinking about DJI P2. I just found your video and I gotta tell you - I really enjoy your videos! The way you talk and show things is just nice :) It's hard not to like you:D great job, leaving a sub!
Wow thank you for the kind comment, I appreciate it.

Another great video well delivered
Thanks Waltham, I appreciate it.
Just got it with creator combo, nd filters, selfie stick, charger, etc and a great case it all fits into. I also have the A6600 and will be bringing both on trips. Blown away by what this impossibly small camera and gimbal can do.
Nice to see someone with my same setup! A lack of high-quality skills on the A6600, drove me to the DJI Pocket 2
please tell me your review in one word, that'd be enough.
Fantastic share my friend see you again cheers
Nice one learned a lot here.
Great, glad to hear it. Thanks.
Great advise, liked and subbed :)
You are an absolut legend dave i also use dji products for my photoshoots :D
Thanks Oliver, I just checked out your channel, nice job, I just subscribed
I have made many of these mistakes!!! Thanks for the video, you should do a Q and A video on the osmo pocket and pocket 2?
Damn you Sabrina! Now you just gave me the idea of making a Q and A video. Damn it 😀
Great entertainment and review, subscribed.
Thinking of buying one for my street evangelism will look a heck of a lot better than my hero 3 black footage!
Gotta say... great intro haha. Keep it up :)

Great to watch the video...👌🏻
Thank you very much

I just made a mistake watching your video without doing my own research or not being knowledgeable about sd cards. Before I watched your video I had already taken some videos. I just want to warn the people so they don't make the mistake I made. If you decide to format your SD card make sure you don't have any pics or videos because you can potentially lose important vids or pics by the way great video.
Hello, I just picked up my Osmo Pocket 2 and your videos have help me a lot, thank you so much for your content, Keep it going on.
Have you noticed that with the phone plugged in and slow motion selected you can’t change it to 240 FPS?
Have a great weekend, Cheers from Chile 🇨🇱
Thanks Victor. Good luck with the camera. I don't really use it much with the phone attached so I never noticed the 240 fps issue. I'll have to look into it.
Many thanks for great tips for me as a beginner to the Osmo Pocket 2. One request: Do you suggest using filters even in automode? Contrary to DSLR's I'm not going to use the Osmo in the manual mode 90% of the time, I guess, it's a quick vlogging option for me with no hassle to worry about. Many thanks, I'll be following the channel.
Hi Martin, yes the filters will still help in auto mode but they they work best in manual mode. If you are using the Pocket 2 for quick vlogging I would just try it in Auto mode without any filter to see if you are happy with the results. For taking head shots you may be fine. Good luck.
Z-Axis gimbal exists from 'Scotty makes stuff', works really well to remove walking bounce and lets you walk gas free (aka normal)
I'm sorry but nothing will ever help me walk "gas" free! Actually I haven't tried the Scotty 4th axis, I have tried other ones but I didn't like it. I hear the Scotty one is much better.
Excellent tips! Thank you. About the ND filters, I stopped using them and auto gives me a better recording experience. The pocket 2 is a great little beast!
I was wondering about this. I bought an N32 but am worried I'll use it at the wrong time or not enough etc. Would I be better off just skipping it all together?
@@BlackJackzOO without a doubt Nd filters make your footage more smooth and cinematic if you’re going after that look and will give you more flexibility when you use manual settings. However, you have to be mindful where you’re pointing the camera each time you record because the moment you point away it will be a different exposure and you will need to tweak the settings again or change the filter. This is great when you have the time to do so. In my case, I’m happy with the auto settings. One thing you have to think about is how you use the pocket. Filters work best if you attach your pocket to your phone because you have a bigger view of what’s happening with your exposure. If you are not using a phone it’s harder with the little screen. My eyes are getting old so that doesn’t help. Lol. You can also use wifi to monitor your recording but again it all depends on you. Hope this helps.
That's interesting Tim, I have always said I have been impressed with the Osmo Pocket, now Pocket 2, straight out of the box with no accessories. Personally I am just used to using the ND filters from my time using my professional cameras.
@@timgalletas3856 Thanks for the tips Tim. Another thing about the filters is that it takes me out of the moment. I can't just grab and record.
Do you use the Cinelike D setting? I have heard different things about it being better for post production. Also, I can't seem to figure out if it's possible to lock exposure without using the app?
Great info. Quick question, what is the name of the extension handle you are using with the pocket 2?
Great video. I cant get my head around AFs and AFC .
Is AFS like manual focus ? so you click on it once and it's focused at that point. So for example
Click AFS once on a landscape.
Move behind a rock ( rock should be blurred out)
Pan /slide left and landscape will be in focus.
AFC always does auto focus
Landscape is in focus
move behind rocK
and it will refocus on the rock
when would you use AFS vs AFC
Regards
Very useful tips sir! I have a question. What iso level should i use in low light conditions? I also record at 24 frames and follow the 180 rule, so the shutter speed is at 1/48 or 1/50, but in this configuration it looks so dark in inside the house takes, should i increase the iso level?
Great video. Question though, should i always use pro mode or is the standard mode good enough?
Thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience with this camera. We just picked one up too. In your experience should we be using any filters for interior Real Estate based shots?
The Pocket 2 can be great for real estate. I don't think you would need any filters if you are shooting inside. Just make sure you have plenty of light to help with the Pocket 2 and the smaller sensor. Good luck
Hey. Great video. You talked about expensive gimbals where there are no jumps. What expensive gimbal does the Go Pro 9 + 10 have that the jumps in it are not noticeable?
Thanks
Hahah "hold my fart walk"
Hi I'm fairly new to the pocket 2 and initially bought a set of standard ND filters but I found them to be a bit fiddly and soon got tired of switching out filters every 5-minutes to suit the varying lighting conditions so I purchased a pair of variable ND filters and these have proved to be really good. As they were only an experiment I didn't buy the most expensive I simply bought a reasonable brand and they've worked out fine. I no longer have to fiddle around changing the filters - all I have to do is rotate the bezel on the outer edge of the filter until my exposure value comes down to something close to what's required. Because I'm in the UK I shoot in 25 frames per second and always try to stick to a 50th of a second shutter speed but I'm coming round to thinking now that I might start filming in 50 frames per second at 100th shutter in order to be able to use the slow motion that you outlined so well in this video. After watching one of your previous videos I've also just invested in a z-axis stabilizer as I'm not exactly nimble these days and I need all the help I can get with smooth video! This has yet to be delivered and is on its way from Australia as we speak. Thanks for your very informative videos I've just subscribed 🙂
can you provide a link of what you bought?
Hi Dave, ya I have not tried the Variable ND but they look interesting. Changing the filters can be a pain. I have also not tried the Z-axis so let me know how that works for you. Take care.
Hi Michelle, are you talking about a specific product? Most of the accessories I have are from amazon. Let me know if it's something specific and I can let you know where I got it from.
@@DavidDavies You mentioned a brand of filters you were testing (as they were sent to you). I was wondering about that product. I was also wondering what you were using to hold the camera and your phone.
Frames per second is definitely a personal choice. I tend to shoot at 24 fps with my Osmo Action too. But, shooting at both 24 fps and 60 fps seems like an odd choice. Have you tried shooting at 48 fps instead of 60 fps? It's far easier to process halving or doubling speed. 30 and 60 fps or 24 and 48 fps is the diggity. I am still considering a Pocket 2, so thanks for your perspective.
You make a good point, I have never tried shooting in 48 fps. For my RUclips channel and my personal videos I mostly shooting in 24 fps but for my professional work, especially broadcast work they want everything to be 30 fps (29.97 fps) so I normally shoot to those formats. I will have to try 48 fps and see the results. Thanks
Great video!
I attached my Rode wireless 2 to my Osmo 2 with creator combo while attached to my phone and got a electronic buzzing, like interference.
Have you had this problem and do you know how to fix this?
Thanks!
This video deserves a like, comment and subscribe... Done!
Good list. More mistakes - using FPV mode for no real reason, leading to crooked horizons - putting the camera into the supplied case with the power button facing outwards so it gets turned on accidentally - setting the gimbal speed too high so pans get too abrupt - putting background music on videos where the original sound would have added interest and immersion - treating the camera as if it's a gopro instead of the quite delicate thing that it is - not checking and rechecking that you've not dropped the wide angle lens...
Ha, thanks Peter, that is a good list. I actually had the Go Pro and the wide angle issue, actually ND filter instead of wide angle for me. The FPV mode is funny, I don't use that mode much. The power button is a good one, so frustrating!
I love ur video sir, no doubt to subscribe.
Thanks I appreciate it.
Enjoyed the video, Dave. I just became aware of the Pocket 2 and trying to decide if I should spring for it. The idea of having such a compact gimbal with the camera built in really appeals to me. I've own a ZHIYUN gimbal for two years and can count on one hand the number of times I've used it. QUESTION: What do you think of the Pocket 2 from a casual photography perspective. I'll be heading to Disney World in about a month and was wondering about the quality of photos and also how easy it would be to bounce back and forth between taking video and photos. What-a-ya think?
Thanks for the comment. I totally agree with you about the larger gimbals, they work great but such a pain. That's what is great about the Pocket 2, so small and simple. As for photos it does a decent job, I actually really like the pano features, but I wouldn't rely on it if you are looking to get really high end photos. I actually took the Osmo Pocket, original version with me to Disney in 2019, I just bought the camera and the firmware wasn't great but it was perfect for Disney with the family. Have a good trip.
So interesting video!
Where are you from, Mr?
Just finished watching your "mistake" video! So good! I have a question: would you mind explaining a bit more here why you shoot in 24 fps for interviewing and selfie videos? Is it because it is a more natural look? Also, do you shoot always in cine mode? Thanks for any help!
thanks for the nice comment. I shoot in 24 fps for these shots simply because I like the look of 24 fps, just a preference. Some people don't like it but I like the more film look. Also I then edit my sequence in 24 fps and when I do shoot something in 60fps, I am actually able to slow that footage down more than I would be able to if I shot in 30 fps. As far as cine mode, I do use it from time to time but I have no problem shooting in colour mode, I think it looks pretty decent right out of the camera.
I have a question. I'm seriously thinking of getting this. I'm a videographer, and do a bit of weddings. I was thinking of using this for outdoor ceremonies only and no this wouldn't be my only camera. I would use for the entrances and center cam during the ceremony. I do already use my Panasonic G9 on a gimbal works great, but auto focus isn't great it's not bad if you do what I do and use a prime lens, but with this I could actually do a small zoom in to change that center shot during the ceremony IE ring exchange, vows and maybe kiss. What are your thoughts?
loved this mate ya talked at normal speed and explained at normal speed im from downunder can i film upside down am only joking will get this little pocket as i loved kayak racing an rowing again well done cheers an beers mate bobby j.
Thanks Robert, I would love to see your Kayak footage.

What is the best gimball setting when filming from a bouncy car?
do you put nd filter and change the shutter for slow motion too?
Hi Dave ,thank you for sharing. I can relate to the last few words" Don't beat yourself you will get better". Well that's exactly how I feel. I bought the Dji pocket 2 since December last year and it's only about a week ago that I am trying to learn it. I've been a still photographer for over 20 years now shooting mostly weddings and portraits. I want to incorporate some bts using the Dji pocket in my studio and outdoor portrait shoot. But I'm really struggling here. What would you recommend for a novice like myself and also what is the easiest way for me to edit these small clips to upload on instagram mostly. Any advise and recmmendation will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks for the comment, the Pocket 2 is great for BTS footage. As far as editing clips together, are you using any editing software or are you editing on the Mimo App? I use Adobe Premiere but if you are using the Mimo App you should be able to edit some of the clips together, I don't use the Mimo App for editing clips together but I understand you can, and you should be able to upload the edit piece to Instagram?
One mistake I made was to put a tempered glass sheild on the lens (ther are great on the touch screen) when you put them on the lens it not only prevents a good connection for magnetic ND filters, but the few mm's difference makes it almost impossible to make those lenses click in and be secure.
sorry to hear that Ian. I don't put the glass on the lens because I am afraid it will mess up the image, I didn't know it effects the magnetic ND filters.
Hi Dave! Thanks for sharing and making this so fun to watch! I just got my pocket 2 and I have been having overheating problem. Is this common? Do you have issues with it?
My has never overheated and I have used it in some really hot conditions. I tried to turn it off right away when I am not using it. If your camera is overheating it may be a defect. Mine does get warm but never where it overheats.
Hello, thanks for this video. Sorry, maybe this will be a stupid question, BUT: We just got the Pocket 2, we did not bought any SD card yet, but we tried the camera with a mobile phone, and the image seems to be laggy when this little guy is following our movements. That's a normal "reaction"?
I’m with ya on 24fps. However, pineapple on a pizza-that’s a no go! Pepperoni and onion for the win!
Pepperoni and Onion, I can get on board with that, but a nice Hawaiian Pizza from time to time can be nice.
I wish the pocket 2 has the older lens from the pocket 1 because of the narrower angle, looks more cinematic i think. So recording in 60fps it better for slow motion even when i export the video in 30fps?
Just got a Pocket 2 about 5 days ago and just love it! One thing I've noticed, though: so far I've been shooting everything in 4K, 60 fps, and uploaded the video to RUclips. Problem: sometimes it uploads 4K videos in 4K, other times it uploads in only 1080P - ALL 4K videos, too. Any idea why?
Congrats on the camera, I hope you enjoy it. I also shoot in 4k. If you are taking those 4k clips and uploading them directly to RUclips then it's probably RUclips taking your 4k video and down converting them to 1080p. I do know when I upload videos, especially to my other YT channel, The Lazy Camper RUclips channel it does take some time for RUclips to create the 4k version. RUclips will start with the smaller versions then work on making the 4k versions. A few times on that channel, it has taken over a day to make the 4k version. Good luck.
I have just got the pocket 2. Biggest mistake I make is looking at the camera itself like you would a normal action cam and NOT looking at the screen to see what you are actually recording. Guess I've just got to get used to the gimbal, never used one before. I've messed up nearly all my videos so far by doing this. There is definitely an art in using this camera, I'll get there in the end.
Don't feel bad about not looking at the lens, it took me a long time to stop looking at the screen. Now I always look at the lens and sometimes I just glance down at the screen to make sure I am centred.
@@Tensentities Yea I guess we are. I suppose it depends on what you use it for and what works best for you. I was using a "Normal" action camera before and so the gimble was a challenge. I was looking at the camera body and it turned out on looking at the recording that I had not recorded exactly what I wanted. With a normal camera you can basically point it in the direction you want and record, any fast camera movement translates to a fast camera movement, with this camera the gimble slows things down so there is a disconnect, a sort of lag to where the actual camera body is and where the lens is recording. Great for slow B roll shots though. It's a bit hard to explain until you actually use one. Once you get used to it, it's OK.
Thank you so much for this tutorial!! :). One question, how do you know which ND filter do you need to use in each moment of the day or night?
That is a great question Fran. I used ND filters so that I can shoot at iso 100 and my shutter at double my frame rate, so I like to shoot in 4k in 24 frames per second, so I will set me iso to 100 and my shutter to 50. Then I will add my ND filter until my footage looks good and properly exposed. There is some trial and error. You can use your EV metre to make sure you shot is properly exposed. Once you get comfortable enough you will figure out which level of ND works for each shot.
@@DavidDavies thank you so much =)
Love the video...but as a helpful suggestion...I hear 'NOW' many many times. Something that may help in future videos. Thanks for the review and nicely done.
Thanks Mike. Yes I say NOW way too many times, it's like my crutch. I have improved it on my newer videos. Many have noticed. I am working on it!!
👌
Nice video, thanks for this. Trying to watch all but curious about tempered glass screen protector, do you think yay or nay?
I wouldn't use a glass protector. It can effect the image so I wouldn't trust it. Just be very careful with the little gimbal head.
@@DavidDavies That was my thinking too (only after I'd bought one, though!!!). Thanks for getting back to me. Much appreciated.
Hello. I would like to ask if it's normal that my dji p2 battery drops even it is switch off. I left it 97% and when i switched on its 83% . Thanks for this video
Ya that's not normal, but I have notice that happens every now and then.
