"Managers get busy?" that is a total cop out. They want you or they don't. They know immediately after talking with you if they like you. They may be keeping you on a string as the 2nd choice. But there is no excuse to not at least give you an email with quick updates a week out. The HR process is most corporations is complete garbage.
If I was the hiring manager, I would let every candidate know by phone or email as to whether or not the job will be extended to that person. Also, I would do it in a timely manner as well.
@@AntiMasonic93 | I'm not a hiring manager, but I can tell you their trade secret: NEVER contact candidates who won't get the job. Why? If they ask why they did not get the job, you must find a careful way to explain the reason without being discriminatory (racial, age, and such). And also you have no idea HOW the losing candidate is going to react to your rejection. Usually never returning a phone call is the message that the job is already filled.
I asked as my final question in my interview if there was any reason they would hesitate to consider me for the position and she said no absolutely not, we've had a great interview you have a lot of good experience we need. Ill get back to you by the end of the week. Has not happened. I've heard nothing.
With approvals, it can take so much longer than everyone expects because certain people may be traveling or on vacation - ugh! I'm right there with you.
This was my issue. Went in a panel interview. The supervisor was out sick for 5 days. When I called she stated that HR would contact me in another 5 days o. Whether or not I got the job and not to be discouraged. Tuesday will be 5 business days. I really hope to get an answer soon just so I can move on if I don't get it. I hate this part of interviewing. Everyone had stone faces and masks on. I got some head nods during the interview. They all read questions from the same script and took notes. Geez I really want this job but why does everything with the state take so long?
I love that you have a comment here because I subscribe to you as well. You are 2 phenomenal women and your help and expertise has been a game changer for people like me! Thank you!!!
Well.. I was also worried about getting the job offer, as my final interview happened on Thursday afternoon, I was advised to keep my lines open, after that I haven't heard back ,waited until tomorrow, but it was holiday so I assumed that the hr are all busy , weekend has passed and I was really worried about the offer, after 4 days finally they have sent me the pre employment requirements, and the job offer as well, if you think you did well, just be patient and keep praying, God always listen
Too funny. That would be too many companies. It does feel nice when you run across a company that can do what they say they are going to do in a very quick manner. Thank you for your comment!
The waiting is the toughest. I had a great phone interview, then a face to face. We were all on the same page with everything: safety, teamwork, ect. - I was the very last interviewed that day. I know it will take time, but praying a lot many times a day. 6 business days, they haven't called my references. Not sure if it just takes a while or ........ It is wrong to worry, but this job is my dream job. I am not stresssing but a bit of worry is coming over me. I guess a 2 week window is normal instead of 1 week? This job is the ultimate. I hope I get it.
Hi Christine. Congratulations on going after a job that you really want. That is a great bet on yourself. Have you followed up with them? Watch this video if you're unsure how - ruclips.net/video/5-MZuYCkweY/видео.html I would agree, 2 weeks may not mean a lot to them and their hiring process. Did they give you a timeline once your interview completed? Keep me updated!
I’ve read stories of potential employees “ghosting” recruiters or hiring managers, but the reverse is also true. I had a recruiter initially interview me, then contact me almost two weeks later to set up a meeting with hiring manager, I replied accordingly-never heard back-not cool.
Things do happen and recruiters get caught-up in their own workload. In this situation, it is okay to send a follow-up email or make a follow-up phone call to the recruiter.
Career Success in my job search, recently, I had a lot of recruiters contact me and then ghost me; but, thankfully, one recruiter was very persistent and got me a great job! Still, even if they’re busy, common courtesy is to at least notify the candidate. I recently took the courtesy to notify a recruiter that I already had a job, BUT I also gave the recruiter my former coworkers info who would fill in nicely for the potential role-pay it forward!
@@CareerSuccess I’ve done that, after a recruiter got really excited about interviewing me. Completely ghosted, no response to any of my emails. Then they reposted the job listing a month later. Hard pass. (I’m guessing when they checked my LinkedIn, they realized I wasn’t entry level Diversity Specialist, and didn’t want to pay for the expertise.)
A lot of folks are asking how soon they should expect to hear back after an interview. I like to advise people that during the interview they should ask the interviewer how soon they can expect to hear back on next steps. Then, once/if that deadline passes, you know you can reasonably reach out and ask for an update. When asking for an update, it's nice to include something of value "I saw this video/article related to your industry." or "I was thinking about this challenge you told me you're faced with and I think I could manage that problem for you by doing XYZ." This way you're connecting and continuing to build that relationship and not just asking for info.
I'm kinda anxious. Haven't reached the deadline of the waiting period yet but watching this just in case. Bracing for impact. Staying proactive while I wait
Love your video. I did awesome in the first interview. Hiring manager and I hit it off immediately. I felt like I rocked the interview. Well, apparently I did because she set up a 2nd interview 2 days later with her boss. The recruiter called and wanted my feedback on how I thought the interview went. I told him it went fantastic. He started to talk salary with me. I didn't feel that the 2nd interview went as well. She didn't ask me many questions and she did most of the talking. I am on vacation this week from my current job and it was the perfect time for me to interview so I did not have to take time off of work. Now the anxiety has kicked in. I did follow up thank you emails, and I don't know what to do next.
Alisha, thank you for checking out our video! So, timing is everything when it comes to interviews. You are wondering why you haven't heard back just as quickly on "next steps" after your second interview because of how speedy your first callback was, right? If this is the last step in their interview process, this is the part that typically takes the most time. If they want to hire you, odds are, they need to gain approval on the hiring decision and even your salary. So, don't sweat it just yet. If you have not heard back within seven days of your interview, it is completely acceptable to follow up with the recruiter. I would say something like this, "I interviewed on "X" date for "X" position and was calling to follow up on my status OR to get an understanding of the decision timeline." Tip: I would follow up via phone and if you get a voicemail let them know that you will also leave an email (just in case it reaches them sooner). :-) I hope this helps, Alisha! Good luck on your career search! We appreciate you. Don't forget to SUBSCRIBE to our channel so that you can see new videos as they are posted!
I wouldn’t say that one should turn down an offer just for being the second choice - but the scenario you described where the company already chose another candidate and failed to notify - is not a company with high moral standards and definitely not one I would want to work for. If they can do that to a person - what else will they do to an actual employee.
I interviewed for a job on the 8th of October, it went extremely well....spoke with the hiring manager a week later and was told that they are still interviewing, asked me would I be ok working specific days and times, stated that she would love to just hire me but there are steps to the process, last thing said, just pay attention to an email of next steps in the process. Hadn't heard anything. I've continued applying, but I was very certain that I had that one. It's a little discouraging when you feel so confident that something is going to happen and it doesn't. I'm like what could have gone wrong...but your video has shed light, TY!
It can be frustrating, you're right. I'm proud of you for continuing to apply for jobs. The only sure sign is a job offer! I'm happy this video helped. Be sure to subscribe to our channel for more advice!
Can’t wait to watch! I am so I’m paranoid and obsessing about this as the process has been weeks long and four rounds of interviews. I had my final interview with the highest up person last Friday. It is Thursday now. I am beginning to be very concerned.
Communication is everything no one Wants to be held in limbo and ambiguity not knowing what’s going on it doesn’t take but a tiny bit of time to send an email or a text message ,this is in progress with an update .I’m sorry this just seems like a ton of excuses. COMMUNICATE !To keep an employee waiting it makes us feel unimportant and disrespected
I had a 2nd interview in November it is now January 30th. I sent thank you emails then a follow up email a month after. Not a response back whatsoever and at this point I have no desire to work at this company- their lack of respect, communication speaks volumes to this company’s ethics.
If I was in your shoes, I would not write the company off so quickly. December has two holidays, and with vacation being taken it can greatly slow down the hiring process. Have you followed up this month?
Well after now 4 months I emailed the recruiters and they sent a very short “the position has been filled” email. I’ve tried to get back into this company for 4 years after being laid off 2x. It’s aerospace and is my passion. I’ve applied to over 10 jobs that I am highly qualified for and I’m baffled as to why. I have references from top management and they didn’t even have the courtesy to sent an email back. I almost want to send a letter off to the President and express my dismay! I’m disappointed and frustrated at the lack of communication and integrity that these HR recruiters have.
Thank you, this opened my eyes to alternative thoughts. I had my second interview on Thursday and said they would come back by Friday but now waiting the weekend, I spoke to the sole recruiter for the position and i know they haven't got back to anyone yet.
I'm so glad you found this helpful. I also want to say congratulations on your second interview. I am rooting for you. Stay on top of following-up. Good luck to you.
Had two rounds of interview at a Big 4 firm. I am into my 3rd week after the final interview and still haven’t heard back. Left an email, no response to that too. 😔
They did a phone interview with me about 3 weeks ago. The lady that interviewed me said it would take them 2 weeks to decide and that I would be hearing back from them one way or another. I called yesterday and spoke to HR and the lady said to me that the hiring team was still deciding. So far I took that comment as something positive.
I apply for a job at chick fi la and they told me they’ll call me back but never did so I checked on my application and they said they would call me back but they never called back and it’s been a week
Yes, unfortunately there are too many companies that do this. I always recommend to keep your options open by continuing to apply to additional jobs so that you are not only focused on one place. It decreases the stress. Good luck to you and keep me posted!
Hi Heather, I have a question, what if you pass the 1st interview at a staffing agency then move on to the 2nd interview with the client, is that a good sign? What if the manager and not the recruiter says, "we are looking forward to working with you" is that a good sign also?
What does it mean if the interviewer send you a thank you email? However, she also stated that they are still interviewing other candidates for the next couple of weeks, but she will “certainly keep in touch.”
It should be illegal to make someone pay money on transportation for an interview and do not provide an answer or do not mention the time to get an answer.
Hi, so I had 2 interviews with this company out in LA. I originally wasn’t going to apply but decided too. I called to confirm they got my application and I spent an hour talking to the guy doing the hiring process. The next interview was a zoom interview and he kept referring to me already in the position and what my responsibilities would be, was maybe 20 minutes at most. He also asked about salary and about when I could be out there by. We’ve talked a few times in between one of the times he said I’m the only one who’s been following up and I’ll be one of the first to hear back . The next interview happened yesterday at 9pm my time and it was with the CEO and he asked me to send him some stuff and I thought the conversation went well, his main concern was me getting out to LA which I get and I explained the situation and I think it helped. He asked me about my areas of interest. After that I messaged the main person I had been speaking with and he said he was happy I finally got to speak with and he’d be talking to him later. I haven’t heard back yet, it is a startup and they are in the middle of hiring for about 4 other positions as well so this is kinda understandable in the response time. But I’m really stressed out because I want to know
Congratulations! It sounds like you have made great progress in the interview process so far. With that being said, as a new organization and hiring multiple positions at one time, they have a lot going on. I recommend sending your point of contact a Thank You email and asking directly where you stand in the hiring process. Express your interest and excitement in the company and lastly the details in which you could be in L.A. Thank you for watching! Keep us posted!
Today is Friday.... And they told me I will know by Tuesday in my country is not well seen after an interview cuz it makes you look desperate it is cultural thing 😔
Thank you for sharing that. Many people would say the same about opportunities in the US too, until I share with them that it is actually acceptable, but it must be done in a certain way (so as to not look desperate). Do you think there's no level of follow up that would be accepted in your country?
The one reason i want to disagree with you here is because if they didn’t need someone they wouldn’t be hiring if they really wanted you to work there they would put you in as soon as possible no matter how many tasks you have don’t you think your employees would benefit from the extra hands and make the job load for everyone easier the quicker you hire someone the quicker you can train them you’ll never really know how a person will work until they are working so it comes down to impression and personality and that doesn’t require much to obtain
I applied before to the same position first time took a months time for an interview then didn’t hear back so I thought they had hired someone already then again hiring for the same position months later with the same personnel hiring managers got an interview again with them they even knew who I was again interview went so well then now waiting game it’s been post interview 2 weeks now what is going on ??? Lol
Thank you for watching Career Success! Approvals can come in various forms. A candidate may negotiate a much higher salary than the scale of the position. This isn't necessarily something that can be approved before a position is posted. Until the candidate has the offer and accepts, it's not common practice to turn down other applicants.
I know your busy!!! I’m in the police field and I just had a oral board and it’s been two weeks. Every agency and law enforcement officer even academy tell u don’t call and just wait and be patient. What now?
I can imagine how anxious it feels to wait and hear back from an employer. I am an advocate of checking in and seeking a status update; however, I do not know the policies and standards within the police field. Perhaps you can send a request to your point of contact - the person you were working with as you were going through the oral board - and see what they suggest. Questions and inquiries never hurt. Good luck to you and keep me posted.
Hi, I had an interview a week ago and it seems to went well. The interview took me around 20 - 30 min. Also, I feel like i got a really good signs like, the manager asked me when can I start. Moreover, he introduced me to his assistant using the word ' You will be working with her ' and so after the interview with him he let me spent some time with his assistance (also she will be the one who trains me). Once again, it seems to went pretty well since me and the assistance got along with each other pretty fast & easy. It has been a week and i haven't heard back from him. I have had such a hard time for the past week waiting for the call. I'm planning to call him tomorrow. What if i couldn't reach out to him? Should I keep waiting ? Thank you so much.
@@CareerSuccess Updated : I got the job !! :-) I was so stressed for not receiving any feed back / follow up from the manager ( that lasted for almost a month ). It turned out that the HR ,whom was supposed to reach out and send me some files to sign, was a little busy at the time. I've been working for them for almost a month now and everything is going really well. Thank you so much for all the videos - and the channel. It helped me lots as I actually boosted up my confidence by watching your videos !
I am currently waiting for a job response. I sent out my Thank you emails & last week I sent out my follow-up email. Maybe HR has been busy & didn’t see my email. When can I call? Can I call HR this week?
Hey, I've been watching a lot of your videos and I must say you're doing a great job. Had an interview on Friday last week, it lasted for about 45min. In my opinion, it really went well. For the most part our conversation was very casual, I was so comfortable. They asked about three questions, then went on to tell me about the job. We spent a lot of time talking about the job including salary and benefits. After the interview I felt really great, I was sure I'm going to get the job because of how they sold the position to me. I was then told that I should expect feedback in the following week early( in my opinion that is Monday or Tuesday) now it's Wednesday and I haven't heard from them. I'm so anxious. Is too early to follow-up?? The proposed starting date is April, so is it necessary to put pressure now??
I had an interview last month & they said they would get back to me within a week but to not quote her on it, it's been 3 weeks. Should i do a follow up?
Have you seen our video on how and when to follow-up after in interview? ruclips.net/video/5-MZuYCkweY/видео.html Be sure to subscribe to our channel and check out our other videos!
They said: they are interested to consider me for the role however they are waiting for required requisition. What's does it mean? It's been 2 weeks. How long should i wait.? Thanks in advance
It’s been more than a month since my interview with Hiring Manager of a major bank. They have not reached out to me ever since. Is it safe to say that I did not get the job?
Thank you for your question! I would definitely suggest following up if you haven't already. Check out this video for help: ruclips.net/video/5-MZuYCkweY/видео.html Keep me posted & Good luck to you!
Hi, I watched your videos and want to thank you for the clarity. I"m curious on what your approach would be in my situation. By my preference of where I want to go. Company A- I finished my interviews with all respective parties on 3/24. I did my thank you emails the day after. I then followed up with the hiring manager and recruiter on 3/29. However, I received an OOO from the recruiter for the rest of the week. Company B- I have a verbal offer in hand. The culture is great, but I'm not excited about the tech. They have told me that they want me and the last step is to do a case study presentation. I haven't scheduled this final piece yet. Company C- I finish my final loop interviews on 4/1 and this company wants to make an offer. I'm not as excited about the role because of the reviews on glassdoor. They are reputable but I've heard they are a grind. How would you go about a proper follow up on company A to get a verdict on an offer without pissing off company B?
First, I'd like to say congratulations on being in a multiple-offer situation. That is very exciting! There are two actions that are completely acceptable that I want to share with you. Action #1: It is acceptable to email the recruiter in company A and let them know that you have a time sensitive offer from one company and you anticipate an offer coming today from the second. In case company A is considering giving you an offer, you wanted to be respectfully transparent about your status within other interviews. --- this actually can speed up an offer from Company A if they are interested in hiring you. If the recruiter is on vacation and you have the hiring manager's email - still email the recruiter and copy the hiring manager. Action #2: It is acceptable to go to company B and ask them for an extension to get back to them with an answer. You anticipate two offers coming by the end of the week and would like an opportunity to review each in order to make the best decision for you and your family. Ask if they would be able to honor that request. Good luck to you and keep me posted!
Thanks so much! I actually did follow up yesterday with my preferred company. The recruiter said “ Hi! We are still working on finalizing some last details. I expect to have news for you by end of today tomorrow “. ... so, now I’m just waiting around for what that news might be.
Can you give your insight on this one- both the recruiter and hiring manager have been following up with me, I had my interview a month ago. Today the hiring manager asked me *if* I get the job offer to follow up with him before I accept the position... why!? What does that mean?
Thank you for your question. I could use a bit of clarity in order to give you a better answer. The hiring manager asked that if you get [HIS] job offer to follow up with him before accepting the position OR is he asking if you get [ANOTHER] job offer to follow up with him before accepting the position?
Hi there. So i made it to the second interview and was told i would hear from them that Friday. On Thursday they called to ask for my references and said they’d like to get the ball rolling. My reference was contacted and said it went well. Its been over a week now. I sent a follow up email yesterday but have not heard anything yet. Do you think ill get the job? Was the reference request a sign of them wanting me ? Im nervous 😬
Hi! It's okay to be nervous, I understand. I'm proud of you for having such a positive interview experience so far. When a company checks your references, it can show a genuine interest. Have you seen this video about how to follow up: ruclips.net/video/5-MZuYCkweY/видео.html - in it I go through what to do if you haven't heard back after the allotted amount of time. Good luck & keep me posted.
Stephany Marcellus i got a call of the interview and they told me they will send me the job responsibilities and I didn’t hear till i asked feedback from them, hiring manager told me that she will call me on Sunday “e.g” but she didn’t yet she apologized and told me she will call me on Tuesday 100% for the feedback as she was very busy in her regional meetings..! NOW what should expect here “ am i hired”? Plz let me know.
I always sign the only sure sign is a job offer! Check out this video "Signs Your Interview Went Exceptional" - ruclips.net/video/rWNU3hXmHos/видео.html
So what do you do if you have followed up and they still haven’t said anything? They haven’t said they went with another candidate or anything of the sort.
Thank you for submitting your question. If you’ve attempted to follow up three times with no response, I would let it go. Unfortunately, there are many companies that may not share any information. Check out this video if you haven’t already: I Haven't Heard Back After My Interview (WHY IS THAT?): ruclips.net/video/R8B_w15-DWY/видео.html
I got a reference check 2 weeks ago, and after christmas holidays i also follow up and she said she will come back with the result this week but friday gone by and still didnt receive any email, Is it okay to follow up?
Thanks for visiting the Career Channel. I recommend you follow-up with the organization to determine the status of the position. It is possible that the time frame given to you for a decision, may have changed. Best of luck with your job search.
The job candidate should not have to follow up after the interview. If the interviewer says that they will reach out to the candidate, then the ball is in their court to do so at that point.
Hi, really enjoyed this video and hoping you can help! I had an email last Tuesday (19/2/19) for my dream role from the companies HR team member. We set up a phone interview with two stylists who would have the deciding factor on my job for Thursday (21/2/19). The interview went well and they said they’d love to have me up for a trail day and would be in touch via the initial HR, and if I had any questions for them to go via the HR also. On Monday (25/2/19) I sent a thank you and follow up email to the HR asking if the trail day date had been organised. She replied promptly and said she hadn’t heard anything yet but would let me know when she does and she would have thought the trial would be ASAP as they want to get the position filled. I’m completely freaking out that the stylists have forgotten about me or found someone better than me but then question why they, and I quote, ‘would love to have me up for the trial’ or ask about when I can start the role or my relocation for the role. Any reassurance or advice would be so welcome as my anxiety is through the roof, thank you x
Hi Scarlett. I first have to say that I appreciate your transparency! This is a tough place to be in. I will say it is way more common for an employer to SAY they are going to "move quick" and then actually do not move quick, than it is for an employer to say they will move quick and actually DO it. Employers are often unrealistic about the time it takes to go from one step in the hiring process to the next. One week is not something I would worry about. Have you followed up this week to ask about the status of the position again? If not, I would do so!
@@CareerSuccess Hi Jennifer, thank you so much for replying! I did actually hear back soon after I sent you that message and went for a formal and final interview last Wednesday (6/3/19). The interview (with two people, both stylists) went really well from my understanding - eye contact, nodding, a series of three focused and objective questions which I all got correct, saying they were really impressed with my CV and portfolio, they even said 'this has been such a lovely interview' to be honest it was a lengthy interview that turned more funny, chatty, informal and pretty enjoyable for me. They also asked about me relocating and my salary expectations. I thought this had / still has gone pretty great and I literally walked out with a spring in my step. I did ask about when I would hear back and the lead stylist said they run on a methodology of letting all candidates know within ten working days (which would be on the 20/3/19) but would let me know sooner rather than later due to the relocating aspect of the role, she also said they had other candidates to interview (which i've heard isnt a positive thing to hear at an interview). It has been a week to the day and I haven't yet had a reply, as you can imagine I am horrendously anxious and no matter how many times I try can't seem to get the analysis of the interview (which I can only deem to be very positive) out of my head. Just wondering what your advice would now be in this situation, do I contact my HR contact to check if everything is still in progress or wait until the 10 working days are complete before reaching out? I have trawled through forums and webpages looking for other people in my boat to tell me they received job offers after weeks or waiting but seem to only be able to focus on the people who say after 2-3 working days you should give up hope. Apologies with how lengthy my questions are, I think I have also used this space to write down my experiences to get them out of my own head and have found your channel a huge anxiety relief tool, so thank you for that as well as answering my question!
I just interviewed for my 2nd interview Thursday and I’m stressed. The deadline I was given .. He was suppose to call Friday or Saturday but didn’t which makes me think he moved on
Hi Kenya. It's perfectly normal for timelines to change. I would suggest following up- maybe this video will help: ruclips.net/video/5-MZuYCkweY/видео.html Also, you might find this helpful as well. ruclips.net/video/fzd2OSPptnk/видео.html Let me know if you have questions.
I went through two rounds of interviews with three program managers. They asked me when can I start? Then they said they have a new v p and he may want to interview me. I got the email from the recruiter that v p wants to schedule an interview. It went well and he said he will have the decision in two weeks. Same day before the interview I got the email from the recruiter that I need to complete my job application and cognitive assessment. I did completed and now waiting for the response and getting panicked.
Hi Rajeshri! Thanks for sharing your story. The hard part can often be to not panic, I get it. Have you followed up with them yet? If not, this video may help. ruclips.net/video/5-MZuYCkweY/видео.html I'm rooting for you!
Just had an interview this past Wednesday. They said they would get back to me by the end of the week. They asked about when I could start, and when they were looking to fill the position. She even said that they have had others apply but they need to fill the position immediately. I haven’t heard back today. Could she have meant by the end of this upcoming week. I have high hopes but I don’t know… I sent a thank you letter and everything. When do I follow up if I don’t hear back?
Hello and thanks for stopping by the Career Success channel. I cannot determine what was intended by the hiring manager during the interview, but can recommend you follow up with an email or phone call to ask about the target date for a final decision. Best of luck to you ahead.
Nope. Didn't get the job. Age discrimination. If you are 50, you won't get hired for an airline ramp agent job. True. I'm not bitter but seriously disappointed. I am healthy & strong. I didn't need health insurance. They dont care. That's ok. My spouse & I will be opening our own business next year. Good luck to you all. Peace..
Christina Coca... I presume age discrimination is your own guess and not a hiring manager directly saying to you that "you are too old" or "we have younger candidates" (Which would be foolish on their part to verbally say any of that to you.) Many years ago, I believe I was not hired for a job because the company was afraid I would unionize their workers! My previous place of employment had a mix of full-time union employees and part-time non-union workers. I was part time and NOT in the union. Looking back, the hiring manager who interviewed me knew of that company and the union and she quietly thought I was in the union. And with her knowing I had worked there may have unfairly costed me the job from the start.
Hi Jennifer, I am facing three difficulties in my career path. Firstly how to deal with a career gap and manage to be intelligent about it in the interview? Second, in changing industries,I worked in sales and marketing domain for an year but no after an MBA in HR, I am looking for entry level positions in HR? Which key transferables I can demonstrate that my past work ex doesn't go into a vain. Thirdly, during a job chain everything candidate at least wants to be offered the same CTC he/she was getting in the previous job; but unfortunately in India, we get a lot of incentives in sales but same is not true for HR. So can I say I was getting paid this much so can you at least offer this or will they just reject it by saying it's not as per the industry norms. Any insights will be appreciated
Hi there. The best advice that I can give you is to be honest about your career gap. Keep in mind that the closer your reason for the career gap is to common acceptable career gaps (i.e., went back to school, took care of a parent, relocated with my partner, etc) the easier it will be to explain why you were away. As for your second question, the most important thing you can do is to look at the basic qualifications for the position to which you are applying. Think about what experience you have (formal or informal) that shows that you can get the job done. Talk about that. And then talk about the transferable skills that will allow you to get that work done. Always speak in terms of what the employer is seeking specifically rather than speaking to your skillset generically. As for your third question, speak to what your peers in the market earn doing the same work. Whenever you are talking about salary, speaking in terms of data you’ve researched always makes your case stronger. I hope this helps!
Hi there! It sounds like they are still in the decision making process. If you haven't heard back in a week, I would recommend asking a more specific question surrounding their timeline.
Hi, I had a great interview with the hiring manager and she told me that she would get back to me the following week on Thursday 7/26. Which she did not, I called and left a message on 7/30 & 8/3. She has still not reached out yet. Should I follow up again this week or should I just let this one go.
Stephany, I would try one last time via email only. If there is a recruiter, I would email the recruiter. I would let them know that you interviewed on 7.26.18. Let them know that you would like to know the status of the position and whether or not a hiring decision has been made. Oftentimes, hiring managers are the toughest people to get in contact with (in general) -- which is why many companies use recruiters. Now, let's say, there's no recruiter. Try one last time directly with the hiring manager. Send an email asking about the status of the position and whether a decision has been made or not. If you do not hear back at this point, yet, let it go. Most managers underestimate the amount of time it will take to get back in touch with candidates. Two weeks is a long time for a small company but not a long time or a larger, more established company.
Thank you for replying, the original face to face interview was on 7/18 and it is a small company with no recruiter. I am going to send her an email on Monday. She is the office manager and I waited almost three weeks after our phone interview for the face to face interview. I think it is one of the three reasons that you stated in your video. This video explained a lot, because in our face to face interview she stated that I would be receiving a call with an offer on 7/26 and I feel like I was ghosted. After this last attempt I'm going to let it go but I am disappoint because its my dream job and the vibe that I received from the company was a good one. Thank you for making this video.
@@stephanymarcellus7252 sounds like a company that has a poor hiring process and their culture - probably went for someone they can control - their loss.
Hi there. That's another "it depends" answer. Even if they want to hire you, the employer still may have to go through levels of approvals before they can extend you an offer. The faster they can gain the right approvals, the faster they can get back to you. Good companies, however, will "keep you warm." This means, they will have a person, typically a recruiter, continue to "check in" with you to make sure you are still on the job market. It is completely acceptable to ask your recruiter about the next steps in the hiring process (and if there are no next steps) you can ask how long does it usually take to select a candidate and make an offer. Good luck to you. Don't forget to subscribe to the channel and let me know if you have other questions!
Hii, Your video is impressive But wat if you follow up and the HR says they are on it for like 6months and the 7th month you follow up with a mail and the partner said once a decision is made on my application they will get back to me...what should i do pls?
During the interview the partner promised to recommend me to the HR and the HR said he does think i made it to the next level?? But the partner is still given hope with his message
Hi, I had an interview last Friday which only lasted for about 5 minutes or so. I guess it did not went well but I had a good vibe though. The interviewer was really nice. Before I left, he told me that he would contact me to let me know if I'm in or not by Monday which he didn't. I followed up on Tuesday by sending a mail still no reply. What do you think about that?! I want to hear them so I could move on and not waste time going for other opportunities.
Patrick, I don't have enough information to give you an informed opinion. Who ended the interview and what did they say? What happened to give you a good vibe? Those two factors are at odds, so I need a little more information.
@@CareerSuccess Well the interviewer did not say anything about himself. I was not allowed to ask questions as he just stood up and ended the interview. My understanding is he was busy. Hmm I'm not sure. I had a good vibe as he made me felt welcomed. As soon as I left he told me he will let me know by Monday..
@@patricky7750 Hmmm....I've never heard of an interview lasting for five minutes only. I don't think that it is a positive sign; however, I do not have the full picture either. Your best bet is to follow up with the interviewer directly. Check out my new video. It will show you how to follow up with your interviewer: ruclips.net/video/5-MZuYCkweY/видео.html. Good luck to you, Patrick. And thanks for checking us out! :-)
@@CareerSuccess Thanks for the advice. I was the one who called them first before they called me for an interview. It was not more than minutes for sure.
Typically, how long should you wait? I had several interviews, and last interview with the VP, even discussed salary, VP even said the prior interviewers really liked me, any time span I should be waiting before a follow up?
Don, this is great information and kudos to you for presenting yourself so well during your interview. It is completely acceptable to ask the recruiter (or hiring manager) what the next step in the hiring process would be (i.e., how long does it typically take before a decision is made). I can make a lot of assumptions on my end, but it is best to hear directly from the team. How long ago was your interview?
Thank you for visiting the Career Success Channel, and sharing your perspective with others on the video of 3 Reasons Why You haven't Heard Back on Your Interview. We respect comments from all readers.
Muema, thank you for leaving a comment. Unbelievably, some companies will take as long to get back to you, but on average, it should not take this long. If I were you, I would follow up with the recruiter or manager directly. It is completely acceptable to request the status of a position. Good luck to you and I hope that you receive the information you are seeking!
My interview went well hitting the key notes . The hiring boss and hr both let me know that the hiring manager will be going on vacation and told me they will get back to me when he gets back from vacation.
Loved your video! In August I had a fabulous interview with a company. I sent the appropriate email follow ups, however didn't hear back. On October 2nd, I got called for a 2nd interview with the Director and two other women that work there. At the end, she said to expect to hear from her in 2 weeks. I felt very uneasy during the interview, and left discouraged. Any tips on what to say in my follow up email on Thursday (day after the 2 weeks)? Also, I would be very interested on "how" to interview. Thanks so much!

I interviewed with 4 people and it’s been 4 weeks although I’ve followed up as week later they said they are working through a few things and so will get back to me..So do I just wait? 🤔….
The waiting process can be very stressful! There is a lot that takes place throughout the hiring process; hiring mangers on vacations, workload delays, other candidates being considered, for example. My recommendation is to follow up again in another 10 days with your direct point of contact. In this conversation I would ask directly where you stand in the hiring consideration process. If they still haven't reached a decision, consider the delays referenced above. Hiring the best candidate can take time! We appreciate you watching the Career Success channel!
What a bunch of crap. I'm expected to jump through hoops to get a job not even to be extended the fucking courtesy of a God damned phone call or even an E-mail.
Jeff, your frustration is valid and I'm sure is shared among many job seekers. A great organization would be certain to close the loop with you (i.e., letting you know if you got the job offer or not), but unfortunately many employers do not. The best thing you can do in these situations is to simply follow up. Send an email to your contact and ask for the status of your interview. It is completely acceptable and will not leave you in limbo. Good luck to you in your job search!
Totally agree with you on that! Straight up truth!
Wait I just finished my interview like yesterday and they told me this so I guess I didn’t get the job
Very true! I appreciate you sharing.

This video should be called “companies you probably don’t want to work for”.
Too funny. That would be too many companies. It does feel nice when you run across a company that can do what they say they are going to do in a very quick manner. Thank you for your comment!
Even a generic email would be highly appreciated, but they just choose to ignore all your enquiries
That can be frustrating, I agree. Did you directly reach out to the recruiter or hiring manager you met with?
The waiting is the toughest. I had a great phone interview, then a face to face. We were all on the same page with everything: safety, teamwork, ect. - I was the very last interviewed that day. I know it will take time, but praying a lot many times a day. 6 business days, they haven't called my references. Not sure if it just takes a while or ........
It is wrong to worry, but this job is my dream job. I am not stresssing but a bit of worry is coming over me. I guess a 2 week window is normal instead of 1 week?

I would agree, 2 weeks may not mean a lot to them and their hiring process. Did they give you a timeline once your interview completed?
Keep me updated!
Did you get the job?
Hey, did you get the job?
Bring ghosted is 1000 times worse than getting rejected. I find the process disrespectful.
@@schoolingdiana9086 so u lied about your expertise?
They had me convince that they was going to hire me, supposed to call me back the next day, two days later still nothing at all.

Update
A lot of folks are asking how soon they should expect to hear back after an interview. I like to advise people that during the interview they should ask the interviewer how soon they can expect to hear back on next steps. Then, once/if that deadline passes, you know you can reasonably reach out and ask for an update. When asking for an update, it's nice to include something of value "I saw this video/article related to your industry." or "I was thinking about this challenge you told me you're faced with and I think I could manage that problem for you by doing XYZ." This way you're connecting and continuing to build that relationship and not just asking for info.
This is great advice! Thank you for sharing, Kristin. If you haven't already, subscribe to our channel so we can stay connected!
Very helpful to tame the anxiety of waiting :) Thank you.
I am in that anxiety, post interview anxiety.
Make sure you follow up after your interview!
My take is follow up once. if they really want you they will do whatever it takes to get you.
I'm kinda anxious. Haven't reached the deadline of the waiting period yet but watching this just in case. Bracing for impact. Staying proactive while I wait
How was it?
There should be a law for employers must tell candidates if they got they job or they didnt. Can we get a little common curtesy?
The job hiring process is like dating
haha Thank you for commenting.
A too busy manger doesn't exercise time management well poor excuse ..lights out girly
I agree. Managers should be better at time management (which is no justification). Have you experienced an offer delay in your past?
If it's been a few weeks like 3 to 4....it's over, and if they pick you, you're def not the top pick
I wouldn’t say that one should turn down an offer just for being the second choice - but the scenario you described where the company already chose another candidate and failed to notify - is not a company with high moral standards and definitely not one I would want to work for. If they can do that to a person - what else will they do to an actual employee.
It's funny when companies want candidates with good communication but yet suck at or refuse to communicate with candidates. And having mismanagement.
@@sucram1015 how ironic
I interviewed for a job on the 8th of October, it went extremely well....spoke with the hiring manager a week later and was told that they are still interviewing, asked me would I be ok working specific days and times, stated that she would love to just hire me but there are steps to the process, last thing said, just pay attention to an email of next steps in the process. Hadn't heard anything. I've continued applying, but I was very certain that I had that one. It's a little discouraging when you feel so confident that something is going to happen and it doesn't. I'm like what could have gone wrong...but your video has shed light, TY!

Can’t wait to watch! I am so I’m paranoid and obsessing about this as the process has been weeks long and four rounds of interviews. I had my final interview with the highest up person last Friday. It is Thursday now. I am beginning to be very concerned.

I think it makes sense to follow up. However, I've never received an offer that I followed up on. 😩
I agree with her. The holidays are the worst times. Jan and Feb are bad months to look for employment also. Keep looking!

Needed that info love the video
Helpful, thanks!

Thanks for the video. I had two different jobs interview. Just waiting for a response 😬
Why are we waiting for getting response from one employer. Get multiple offer and show them with result and the value of the time.
They take their time then don't tell you when the position is filled!
Right.. That's why they are hiring because they need a manpower...ASAP. But to keep you waiting...... Nah... Not good.

What does it mean when a job offer is contingent upon the company waiting to get funding approval?

Why not get some the approvals before posting the job?

Thank you so much 😊
I called no one answer I call and try to follow up and everything
Hi there! That sounds frustrating. Have you tried emailing?
Keep looking. It's tough, but ... :-)
Did u get hired?
What is the best sign that they want to hire you? I mean are there any sure signs?
I agree, and I feel like based off speaking with initially they know who they want to hire.
@@scarlettoliviafilm did you end up getting the job?
I just interviewed for my 2nd interview Thursday and I’m stressed. The deadline I was given .. He was suppose to call Friday or Saturday but didn’t which makes me think he moved on
Hi Kenya. It's perfectly normal for timelines to change. I would suggest following up- maybe this video will help: ruclips.net/video/5-MZuYCkweY/видео.html

If not, this video may help.
ruclips.net/video/5-MZuYCkweY/видео.html
I'm rooting for you!
Peace..
I am sorry to hear this, Christine. We did a podcast on this subject - ruclips.net/video/Td9f3RdaN8s/видео.html
I wish you much success.
Christina Coca... I presume age discrimination is your own guess and not a hiring manager directly saying to you that "you are too old" or "we have younger candidates" (Which would be foolish on their part to verbally say any of that to you.)
Many years ago, I believe I was not hired for a job because the company was afraid I would unionize their workers!
Sometimes there’s certain things that happens, it’s pointing you at the direction where you’re supposed to go.

I called the recruiter for my interview feed back for senior position .. he replied to me ‘’ expect a call from us very soon ‘’
What does it mean ??
Nope
@@stephanymarcellus7252 sounds like a company that has a poor hiring process and their culture - probably went for someone they can control - their loss.

If they don't keep you updated, it's highly likely you didn't make it. Let's be frank
How long after the interview will the hiring managers call me if I have gotten an offer.
Hii, Your video is impressive
But wat if you follow up and the HR says they are on it for like 6months and the 7th month you follow up with a mail and the partner said once a decision is made on my application they will get back to me...what should i do pls?
@@CareerSuccess Thanks for the advice. I was the one who called them first before they called me for an interview. It was not more than minutes for sure.
@@CareerSuccess the interview did not last for more than 10minutes *
Typically, how long should you wait? I had several interviews, and last interview with the VP, even discussed salary, VP even said the prior interviewers really liked me, any time span I should be waiting before a follow up?
Don, this is great information and kudos to you for presenting yourself so well during your interview. It is completely acceptable to ask the recruiter (or hiring manager) what the next step in the hiring process would be (i.e., how long does it typically take before a decision is made). I can make a lot of assumptions on my end, but it is best to hear directly from the team. How long ago was your interview?
Career Success it's almost been a week
Yes, this is a good time to follow up with the recruiter and inquire as to the next step in the process (or timing for a decision). Good luck to you!
I love the no makeup on you. :) I love your videos!
The only thing going on is they’re interviewing others while stringing you along.
Thank you for visiting the Career Success Channel, and sharing your perspective with others on the video of 3 Reasons Why You haven't Heard Back on Your Interview. We respect comments from all readers.
Hey. It's been almost 2 months since I heard from them. I feel confused.
Black Career Success thanks for your response. When you mean directly, do you mean that I should go to their offices?
Muema, no, you do not need to go to their office. Sending a friendly follow-up email will suffice.
My interview went well hitting the key notes . The hiring boss and hr both let me know that the hiring manager will be going on vacation and told me they will get back to me when he gets back from vacation.
That sounds like really positive feedback and great communication from your HR point of contact. Hopefully you hear some good news soon.
