The function of the rubber strap with wave pattern is that when you go for saturation diving, you are supposed to put on that strap over the diving suit tightly so that the waves almost become smooth. When you go deep in the ocean your dive suit will shrink due to the water pressure. If you wear normal bracelet or strap the watch will not sit tight, it will spin around, thereby losing its function. But with the wave rubber strap it will contract and still wear tight on your shrunken sleeve deep under water. That said Pelagos is made for serious diving in mind. Pelagos in my opinion comes out as a modern genuine dive watch.
Ariel, The alternating black-red date is actually a very functional feature. As one's eyesight weakens (most people need reading glasses), in small type, some numbers can look pretty similar: a 2 and a 3; an 8 and a 9. If you know that odd numbers are in black and even numbers are in red, you have a better chance of deciphering the number on a quick glance.
After a few years' research to find my first proper watch (thank you aBlogToWatch) I'd grown to respect the Tudor Brand and heritage and instantly fell in love with the Tudor Pelagos LHD. I've never worn watches on my right hand but the quality (and value), effortless style and character made me take the risk. This tool watch does not disappoint. It's just beautiful.
@@powerplay.556 think of that, why did Sinn choose to have crown and pushers on the left for EZM 13???? Pure functional approach.... I love my LHD pelagos because I don't have the disturbing fucking crown pushing on my hand (example: making push ups...)
Adalbert Thomalla then wear the watches behind the wristbone how it usually is worn in older times. Then you‘ll never get issues with the crown digging. I had the same issues and now it‘s the most comfortable position for the watches on my wrist.
100% agree with the comment of titanium being susceptible to picking up scratches. I have this exact watch and after a couple of weeks of desk diving I looks a mess. You should not need to baby a tool watch Tudor.
I prefer raw titanium, like this Pelagos, rather than some clear paint coating over the metal. The scratches are easy to brush out if you are that picky. I have the original "two line model".

Black Friday 2016, I walk to my local Tudor dealer. I find myself looking at the shop in shop and see the LHD. I tried it on and just worked. I look at the back and it’s number 16. Wow that’s my birthday. I could not let go. I got it. Letter the dealer tells me that someone offered to contact me and pay a premium. Things special with the LHD, color of the markers, red text, roulette date numerals, LH crown and numbered edition. As far as I know this is probably the only recent numbered edition from Rolex or Tudor.
I have tried the Black Bay, Pelagos and the Pelagos LHD. I am ready to purchase, but I can’t decide which one! The Pelagos for me was a touch bigger on my 6.5-6.7” wrist. The Black bay I have loved from 2015, but I seem now to be moving towards the Pelagos LHD.
The alternating red/black date wheel is referred to as a ‘roulette date wheel’ and as you mentioned Ariel, it has been used before. I had one of the original Tudor Subs with the snowflake hour hand - nice watch.
Whats the weight of the watch? My Certina DS Action with the ETA 2824-2 weights 106 Gramms with the Nato strapI I like that Tudor and the crown on the left is better for the wrist, if you wear it on the left hand. I think its made for people wearing watches on the right hand, but at my Heuer Carerra is the crown at the left and the pushers at the right, so it wears realy nice.
I love my Blue Tudor Pelagos 25600TB. Such a great watch (and I own a Rolex 116610LV and a Rolex 116660BKSOP). Only drawback is the titanium is easy to scratch... This LHD Pelagos looks great :)
I love titanium as a material. My wedding ring is titanium. Sure it's not the prettiest, but for a tool watch where function trumps form then it's perfect being very light and extremely durable. I'd buy this tomorrow.
I thought the alternating black/red date had a historical reference to a time of war when people had to stand in line for their ration-card days. One could easily remember which day was their turns for said items by red dates only or vice-versa.
I have this watch and a titanium Seiko. The Seiko is 16 years old and still looks fantastic, it had brushed and polished sections, all the polished sections are dull and the brushed looks about the same. They were smart to go 100% brushed on the pelagos.
It's a hint to the rolex datejust 38 with alternate red and black date for the odd numbers but tudor has it used for the even numbers. Also, I believe all pelagos models has used in house since inception. Blackbay hasn't though.
Why Tudor does not listen to his customers, these fans ... Would it be really complicated for Tudor, to make the same watch even Pelagos but regular version right hand, but in stainless!?! Less thick also ..
Unfortunately the titanium used in the Pelagos is a scratch magnet. The perfect Pelagos in my opinion, would be a Pelagos made of bead-blasted ice-hardened Damasko steel. Nonetheless I really love my 2nd gen. Pelagos - accuracy is top notch and the lume is second to none...
Leif Dehio yes that is almost inevitable. But easily fixed though. I have an 16570 with me since 2002 never been polished, one day I’ll get around to send it for refinishing. It was an everyday watch for years.
Coatings are bad news long term. Once they eventually start to flake/ wear, the watch cannot be refinished. That is why Seiko don’t use it on their grand seiko watches. Not using a coating allows for refinishing to as new condition. Be careful what you wish for. :)
Why everyone brings up the sub I I do not know. This is an overachiever. A cheaper, cooler planet ocean or sea dweller type piece. The sub and the retro BB58, are comparable pretty boy divers. Both great but the Pelagos is nothing like them. It's a real tool watch. My opinion.
Pelagos is a tool watch... tool not luxury.. It should get scratched up and beaten. When you give it to your kid what do you want it to look like? What will you say when you give it to your son on his wedding day.. son I bought this watch when I was a young man and kept in a safe, here it is in its original plastic... I want you to treat life the same way,
ripperx444 - you’re not addressing the question. As a right hander, wearing the watch on the left arm, the crown of this watch would be on the “wrong” side. Does that look odd?
A Leone yes this watch is completely pointless! The standard Pelagos worn on the left hand is the way to go. Having this one on the left hand makes it look odd in my opinion.
It could be used like Omega's über diving watch The Seamaster Ploprof 1200M where the crown on the LHS of the case is a design feature so it does not impede a diver's wrist movements. I like everything about the Pelagos especially the luminous bezel. In the flesh however, or does look cheaper than a Rolex Submariner.
A Leone to answer your question, it all comes down to personal preference. The LHD on the left wrist prevents the crown guard digging into the back of the wrist, whilst you could wear it on the right wrist if you please. There is no "rule" so to speak, all a matter how a man or woman wishes to their timepiece. Hope that helps
When will you learn? You have a decent following yet you still have shaky camera movement, amateur out of focus shots, badly framed shots and terrible audio. If only you would put the same craftmanship in your videos as there is in the watches you are reviewing.

Wear it on the left hand, because this makes it more comfortable. Like the EZM 13 from SINN.
the LHD is a style, not a function. The tool watch terminology needs to go.

Probably hardened materials can not be brushed later or can even crack on a strong knock.
I'm not left handed, but I want this. I've always hated having the crown eating into the back of my hand.
Do you still have this, and if you do have you found that it holds up well? Worried about titanium scratching easily.
I love this watch .
I’m currently saving for this Tudor .
How much is the average cost for this model?thank You for the review.

How big are your wrists? I have 6.7 in wrists and want to know if yours are similar!
Has anyone ever had any experience refinishing the titanium? I am scared of scratching
looks awesome, love all the new Tudor design
what size of wrist do you have ?
LHD stands for Left Hand Drive, not left handed and I can't handle the 'tool watch' terminology. Other than that, very good review.
They all seem to be No.238, I’m not sure how unique the number? Can anyone confirm?
Is titanium really that scratch-prone? Can someone with a titanium watch testify?
I have this watch and a titanium Seiko. The Seiko is 16 years old and still looks fantastic, it had brushed and polished sections, all the polished sections are dull and the brushed looks about the same. They were smart to go 100% brushed on the pelagos.
had mine for 6 months, almost a daily wear and it looks brand new out of the case. but I'm fussy and treat it very carefully.
I have this - looks good on 22mm natos as well

I purchase one, I wear it on my left hand, looks good and is a solid piece of coolness.

that drop of water on his left hand after he coughs :)

The 2012 Pelagos runs on an ETA calibre.
Got the omega seamaster 300m (black dial on rubber) back in aug. Your video has poisoned me to get this lhd pelagos too 😅
Always liked this line...great choice rather than Rolex submariner...if looking to save a few grand...
I think there is a vintage Tudor oyster prince that also has an alternating date color. Can anyone else confirm?
Rolex used to do it too- I had a 1953 datejust with "roulette date" as it was sold to me!
