I've often thought that the natural location of a watch crown for a righty *should* be on the left of the case, because of the crown comfort reason, and because very few people do or should manipulate the crown while the watch is being worn. Wr have our crown placement backwards. In practice I do love 4:00 crowns a la Seiko. They just make so much sense. Great review as always! 👍
I really like the 4: 00 crown on my Citizen Promaster. I'm eying the Fugu with it at eight. I love the look with the knurled crown and it's far more in my budget that this beautiful Tudor.
Had a LHD for years. Love it. Everything about it. Cutout on clasp has never bothered me; it’s a tool watch. The lume is the best in the business, and I particularly like the fact that the bezel indices are also lumed. 39mm Pelagos is too small for me, so LHD won’t be relegated to the safe anytime soon.
That watch biography near the 6 o’clock is a pretty good read, although unfortunately let down by no mention of the power reserve, the titanium construction, or the fact it’s a destro.
I'll admit the chances of ever owning a Tudor of my own are slim due to the price but doesn't men I can't appreciate seeing one in all its glory so thanks Jody for the review and Adam for the loan!
All good thoughts Jody, I can't really disagree with any of them... well most. I've had my LHD for some year now and for me it's my most comfortable watch on a bracelet, just (more later). Why did I choose the LHD I didn't hear anyone ask. Well, the RHD (black dial) looked just a tad sterile at the time and I preferred the slightly warmer markings. The RHD had 5 lines from some book written under the pinion where the top line of text on the LHD the name was in red reducing the perceived appearance of the sermon more to a slightly more manageable 4 lines. Finally I loved the numbered addition, the last three digits on mine when I was at the AD was 633, an old black and white WW2 film called "633 Squadron" was one of my late parents favourites. If I'm unsure what the day will throw at me quite often it'll be those comfortable pair of shoes called the LHD or a G-Shock but neither of those could be said as being super versatile watches. As per the end of the video for something smaller, thinner lighter and a bit more versatile there is the option of the Pelagos 39 that is only a smidgen less comfortable than my LHD and that now sits alongside my comfortable pair of shoes, the LHD.
I’ve owned the LHR Pelagos for a good few years. Love it, I do agree that adjusting it takes a bit of getting used too, but I don’t even think about it anymore. I quite like that it seems to fly under the radar and isn’t instantly recognized when I’m wearing it.
I agree with you. I own the regular black, Peli is in this awkward position where it is not obscure but at the same time it is overlooked and flies under the radar. Yeah it's not dashing like SMP, but it fits my taste of a more mature looking, satin - matte watch with details that make my love it each time I glance to check time.
The LHD is powered by a special version of the caliber MT5612. this caliber passed the COSC tests upside down, so as to reflect the positions in which this caliber will most often be in. This requires special regulation.
There is nothing really "special" with the 5612-LHD vs the 5612. The movement is the same, other than being rotated 180 degrees and a different date wheel to cater for rotation. The winding and time adjustment are also opposite directions to the 5612 due to the 180 degree rotation. If you rotate the watch to be a RHD, it will be the same setting the time/date as the RHD. 180 degrees is not "upside down", and the timing is done the same regardless. Crown up/crown down positions are the only timings that will potentially change. The 5612 is a great movement. Very accurate and consistent.
@@Geniusclicks No. If you get any normal watch and rotate it so the crown is on the left, this is the same thing. What I'm getting it, is the LHD and normal movement are almost identical. If they wanted to maintain the same direction for winding, date and time set, they would have had to reverse the gears (which they didnt). That would have resulted in a LHD specific movement. Sinn have converted clients watches to LHD on demand before just by rotating the watch case and dial, then replacing the date wheel, which is essentially the same thing Tudor did with the 5612-LHD
great review love my lhd all those different changes makes it the best in the range tp me and as tudors deep diver its got all you need for sofa surfing 😂, even after the new fxd black release
As a lefty who wears his watch on my right wrist, the 'sinister' placement of the crown i would definitely find appealing. Currently, all my watches are standard 'right' placement of both crowns and pushers. Inevitably this means I remove my watch before winding or resetting, or even activating pushers on a chrono. Given the option, i would certainly opt for a left-sided crown.
I second what you said. As a lefty who wears my watch on the right hand, this is the kind of watch that i have been waiting for. Its really hard to get watches that is meant for the right hand.
I love my blue Pelagos with the exception of the date window. My aged eyes can not read it and for that reason my BB Ceramic has replaced it as my daily wear,
I actually think I'd like a version that's basically a black and gilt BB58.... But with a snow flake dial.... And the tasteful on the fly micro adjust clap that's on the Ranger. Kind of like a throw back to the very vintage Tudor submariner.
Still at the top of my list of any Tudor I’d like to own. I don’t have a problem with the clasp although I agree with you it’s totally unnecessary to have the cut out. Other than that I consider the perfect dive ‘category’ watch! Thanks Jody.
Thanks again Dr Jody! I wear a watch on my right wrist and actually favour the crown being tucked away on the right. Not sure I would want a watch designed for lefties but I liked the review and it is a good looking watch! I do quite like the rear opening on the clasp - a bit different
I'm a leftie myself but also prefer the standard crown position. I wear my watches on either side, but still have a preference for the left wrist for normal wear. When we're mountaineering though, I tend to wear my Mudmaster on the right as it's not getting banged around too much.. Of course the Mudmaster can take it anyway, but it just feels more comfortable.
Nice review of a watch I love but can’t bring myself to get. Sold on the BB Steel and thought about this LHD for a bit (it wore great, but was still big). But after getting a Zodiac Sea Wolf, and then a new Squale Montauk, I realized I like smaller and slimmer divers, and I got both for a few grand less than the one Pelagos. I’d love to actually see you review a new Montauk. The no date dials look awesome, and the package on wrist feels great
Very nice video, as per your usual. One reason for a destro is the crown is less likely to catch on a backpack or dive gear you need to slip your hands into.
I like the LHD, I prefer the thicker case and weight. The matt bezel insert is fabulous and crown guards worl well. I'm with you on the moan about the exposed buckle works, it's unnecessary IMO.
That is a pass for me. I've had a few ⌚⌚ with the 👑 at the 9 and I don't like the 👑 digging in the back of my right hand. TBH, I'm surprised the right handed folks haven't demanded more ⌚⌚ with the 👑 at the 9.
I've never understood the left handed watch thing. I'm left handed and I've always worn on my left hand, as long as you're not over tightly fitted you shouldn't have the crown really digging in.
I'm a lefty, and this is my goal watch. Not my grail watch, which is the Rolex Sprite, but this is much more achievable, and it's super comfortable and attractive and high-quality. I've put down a deposit, and I'm so excited to get it.
Hi , I picked one of these up on eBay less than a year old , full set for £2500 and now they have a long warranty , mine was automatically upgraded to the new guarantee period . I am left handed but always wear all my watches on my left hand . I must admit that a turn the watch upside down to wind and set , it just seemed easier and never really thought about it . I have a 7.5inch wrist and like a large watch and love the look of it , so it’s a keeper ( you are right it’s not light) Richard
Wearing a BB Pro currently and waiting on my Pelagos 39 which is supposed to arrive very soon, but your review has me wondering if I should go check this one out in person. Love some of the design features - like the off white markers. And the red/blk dates. Great review as always.
Hey Jody, love the review... and to answer your question. I still to this day after 4 years of ownership, I do still flip the watch to set it hahaha :)
I must admit,if l could afford either a sub or Palagos,l would go for the Tudor. It a lovely looking ticker. P.s love the T shirt, one of my favourite 80,s progs.
I love how the crown breaks up the look of the case from the wearers view. The text? Love it. Technical watch, looking technical. Same goes for the etching on the clasp. This gets more wrist time than my SD43 or my Rootbeer... Handsome brute. Really nice on straps. Do not like the oem rubber with integrated link though.
I have this watch and the Ranger, both are excellent, a little talked about fact is under the logo on the bracelet is a shield shaped cut out, when worn 2 bits of the clasp push through to make the Tudor Sheild logo on your wrist that can be seen when the watch taken off in the braclet indention on the skin. amazing!
Also I had the bracelet on backwards for a while and took it off only to put the rubber on backwards due to the crown placement... extra attention is required. Love the channel Jodie. ❤️ always distracts me from work when it pops up.
I love the clasp it would save me from having to use a tool to do the micro adjust as it would expand as my wrist swells. As for the hole exposing the mechanism you not going to see it while wareing the watch so who cares. Is this clasp available for sale in the after market would love to. Install on my other watches!!!
That's why I like to have the crown at 4, best of both worlds for me. I get to set everything like usual, I don't get the crown poking into my wrist and as a bonus I like the looks of it.
If I won the lottery or got an unexpected inheritance from a long-lost aunt I would go for the Fxd or a lovely 1970s vintage Tudor sub! Great video as always! 😊
There's something off with the 39mm Pelegos. I was a big fan of getting a LHD Blue Pelegos until you pointed out the awkward adjustment technique, so my ardor has cooled somewhat. Compared to my Helm Vanuatu, Pelegos is the only watch which could replace it for wrist time supremacy.
I guess I'm a bit of an oddity, I really like the clasp on the Pelagos. I have the blue Pelagos, find myself looking at the clasp almost as much as the dial.
I really like the regular Pelagos, though I've not picked one up. I do have a 7-1/4" (18.4cm) wrist, so I can pull it off. I was fortunate enough to find one in the display at my AD a month or so ago, and tried it on. I'm a righty, and it just felt weird. I don't know, I couldn't get used to it and I didn't even adjust the time. My other issue is I don't like the creamy old lume look on such a modern looking watch. I do think Tudor should just add the red/black date and red line of text to the regular black Pelagos to make it a bit less basic, but please keep the bright white lume. I do want to try a Pelagos 39 on, but I really do wish it had a date.
As a Lefty, this is just fine and dandy for me. Also love the brutalist design. I guess that's why I love German's tacticool/SAR/tool watches. Simple and minimalistic with all the tech goodies to please me.
You were spot on with your thoughts on the clasp in your original review of it, but I am glad they tried it. Hopefully the Pelagos range will expand with a new 42/22mm one day 😈
I feel like is you wear a left hand watch when you're right handed makes the most sense of it's your everyday watch most days. I don't wear my automatic every day but I don't mind winding it. If it was backwards, I might just a little. Then again if I paid close to $5k I would just figure it out
This lefty, who wears on the right wrist, always appreciates left hand drive watches. I have big issues with crowns digging into my forearm. More LHD watches please
Love this watch. However, as an alternative I’d go for the Sinn EZM3. I prefer the looks and the thinness of that model. Movement and clasp aren’t as good but I’d happily compromise on those for the increased wearability and price saving!
Very impressive piece, love it also having Titanium case,is little lighter on the wrist like the 39 for me great size absolutely beautiful well done, thank you for reviewing this incredible piece..until next time...
Ordered a pelagos lhd purely because I thought about the issue of no crown digging in. But changed order to a regular. Glad I did. However. I unfortunately scratched the glass and the watch went back to Tudor for repair. They have had the watch over 6 months now and won’t have it back for another 4 they estimate. Tried reaching out to Tudor, but emails have gone unanswered. Has left a sour taste in my mouth to be honest. And still no idea how I managed to scratch it. I’m sure the sour taste will disappear when it’s back on the wrist.
I have been told the advantage to a left crown on the left wrist is for swimmers where a large crown can dig into the wrist while swimming. This is the reason Nixon went left on their dive watches
Love the Pelagos, a grail of mine. I'm a lefty but because of wearing right handed watches all my life, my dominant hand for winding and time setting is my right hand 😂, so there ya go. Great review as always Jody. Always remember, Leftys are always right 😎...
Since I take my watch off to adjust it the left handed crown makes sense, the crown isn't going to stick in your wrist. Other than that its just another diver, great if you don't already have one.
I like these. But I agree about the open section on the clasp.. what were they thinking?? That’s going to attract pocket fluff and other shite like you won’t believe… 👍
With the trend of watch makers doing a big and small version, I find they often miss out on the fact most people would prefer a watch somewhere in the middle. I think perhaps a 40mm or 41mm would work. Perhaps they could have made the larger model a 41mm and the smaller one 38mm? I have the same issue with the Tissot PRX.
I still wish Tudur would make a Pelagos 39 with date complication. If the could also incorporate the chapter ring of the regular Pelagos I think that would make my ultimate watch.
Just got myself one of these beauties. After watching this last year I was smitten. My Otis Calos Coste original 2000m will now be retired to the watch winder. 👌
I've often thought that the natural location of a watch crown for a righty *should* be on the left of the case, because of the crown comfort reason, and because very few people do or should manipulate the crown while the watch is being worn. Wr have our crown placement backwards.

Yeah, seiko 5 of old never scratched my hand. The crown is on 4 but also pushed in.

It's very useful when you forget to take your smartphone to the toilet 🚽

I only guessed the twist because of me watching Italian football on RAI and the commentator always screaming "sinistra!"

Well done Jody! Still after years i enjoy every upload. Kind regards from your german Support Max ;)
Hi Jody, How raised are the numerals ect. on the bezel?
Mines like brail!!
Love a good LHD watch...I am actually a lefty though so 🤷🏻♂️ great video

Dr. Jody uses his new X-ray camera lens to reveal the movement hidden under the solid case back at T=6:12
I have this watch and the Ranger, both are excellent, a little talked about fact is under the logo on the bracelet is a shield shaped cut out, when worn 2 bits of the clasp push through to make the Tudor Sheild logo on your wrist that can be seen when the watch taken off in the braclet indention on the skin. amazing!

Great looking watch. Can't wait see your video on the Pagani Designs Pelagos (lefty). 👍
Well done as usual, Jody👏. Tudor is one classy brand, and I agree w/ your assessment, wholeheartedly. Here's wishing you all the best. Cheers....
Team LHD all the way. Love mine and it's just the right combination of weird and offbeat references to earlier Tudors.
Dear Jody…that watch is awesome and I will hear nothing else. Good day sir
That's why I like to have the crown at 4, best of both worlds for me.
I get to set everything like usual, I don't get the crown poking into my wrist and as a bonus I like the looks of it.
The "slot" in the clasp will be really handy for collecting grit and sand. That's, of course, if I goes anywhere near the sea. Beautiful watch though.
If I won the lottery or got an unexpected inheritance from a long-lost aunt I would go for the Fxd or a lovely 1970s vintage Tudor sub! Great video as always! 😊
“I’ll get my coat “
Nice “Fast Show” reference!
😃
Yes. Short, concise, positive.
39mm (demure): "I'm not the protagonist, let someone else be the hero" 🤭.
Full size "Hold my beer 🍺 😎.
I guess I'm a bit of an oddity, I really like the clasp on the Pelagos. I have the blue Pelagos, find myself looking at the clasp almost as much as the dial.
I laughed when you said the cutout in the clasp was a display. Its a drain, Jody. 😂
Came so close to grabbing one of these LHD's but ended up with the OG BB58 instead. For me, the 58 is the perfect fit and size.
I have a LHD and a blue dial Pelagos.
As a Lefty, this is just fine and dandy for me. Also love the brutalist design. I guess that's why I love German's tacticool/SAR/tool watches. Simple and minimalistic with all the tech goodies to please me.
Another great video as always Jody!
You were spot on with your thoughts on the clasp in your original review of it, but I am glad they tried it.
Hopefully the Pelagos range will expand with a new 42/22mm one day 😈
Tudor has such a rugged luxury look to the Pelagos. Very nice indeed.
That Rolex GMT lefty makes my eyes itch and gives me brain wobbles.
I feel like is you wear a left hand watch when you're right handed makes the most sense of it's your everyday watch most days. I don't wear my automatic every day but I don't mind winding it. If it was backwards, I might just a little. Then again if I paid close to $5k I would just figure it out
I've no idea why the clasp has a slot cut out, but I love it anyway.
It is too thick tho and a bit heavy for a titanium.
After the match of world cup, argentina 2 Australia 1, from rosario big greeting ⚽ Jody, viewing your new video, thank you!

Same here!
I’d really like a Pelagos 39 FXD
Morning Dr Jody, I'm in Berlin heading for the sinn store to look at the stuff I can't afford!
That's an awfully nice Tudor, even if the QC was so terrible that it left the factory with the dial and bracelet installed upside down 😁
Since I take my watch off to adjust it the left handed crown makes sense, the crown isn't going to stick in your wrist. Other than that its just another diver, great if you don't already have one.
i love my blue one and despite the cons its not a deal changer.
I like the left-handed model since the crown doesn't dig into my wrist. It's also interesting looking, like a left-handed guitar.
the crown on the left is not only for right-handed people, but also for people who want to wear their watch on the right wrist. Good review btw.
Im a big fan of the coin bezel. My favorite style actually.
42mm is definitely a better size for me. Great video. Cheers
As a lefty I want this alot its hard to find a good lefty watch
The slot in the clasp is a vault for dust, dirt, grease etc. Can't be too good for the mechanics inside
I like these. But I agree about the open section on the clasp.. what were they thinking?? That’s going to attract pocket fluff and other shite like you won’t believe… 👍
dextral video baby....The matt finish on the bezel ismy fave detail.
That's it James!
Love it! Keep it up☺️ when is sotc btw?
I think next Wednesday mate!
Very nice intro. Well Done Jody!
The Pelagos is a great watch. The new 39mol is too close to a BB58 so I would go for the fxd.
This reminds me of the new eragon r250 42 mm diver. The bezels very similar
Sinister Skeletor!!! Oh, and the video was great also…
The intro kind of reminded me of Dracula's castle on a mountain surrounded by thunder clouds.
THAT PATCH IS FROM THE CROWN? I always thought it was just me being a sweaty Betty against the case.
Well mate, i prefer divers at 38mm with lug to lug at 46mm.
I love the title; it rewards those of us with too many books and too much time lol.
Wow, titanium and 150g?? Thanks Jody!
Hilarious intro and a lovely review❤
Thanks mate!!
I'm in love.... This is magnificent.
