Great watch. Love this timepiece. Anyone that says tudor is a poor mans rolex is insane! I have 2 subs and I like this watch just as much if not more. I see subs everywhere, it takes special knowledge to even know to buy a tudor!!!
James is the best editor on this channel. he makes reviews how it should be done with specs and impressions. other reviewers here don't even know the name of the caliber used in years by Rolex.
James is great reviewer. Though, rolex never used tudors calibers but.owned the tudor as a company. Tudor traditionally used the ETA calibers. For the first time, ...took the courage to make its own caliber and is great. Just to make it clear. .
Excellent review, that made me pull the trigger on a new Pelagos with the MT5612 movement this Friday. Although I have to admit that I got the black version - the blue version is nice, but in a side by side comparison, the black model appealed more to me. After having worn it continuously over the past three days, I'm amazed by the accuracy of the movement. +/- 0 seconds after 3 days exceeds my expectations and it appears Tudor did a good job on the MT5612 movement. The watch wears comfortably and the size is just right. The lume is fantastic and by far the best I have seen on a watch. To sum it up - no regrets and this will definitely be a keeper!
What I like about this watch except of beautiful magnificent blue dial is the thickness of this watch , in the other hand this chunky watch is absolutely stunning
I’ve watched maybe 15 or so Pelagos review videos trying to decide if it is for me. And I gotta say, this is the best review I’ve come across. Your insights were helpful you didn’t just rattle off specs. I enjoyed the underwater video and the shots very much, and for what it’s worth, I’ve decided it will be my next piece. Thanks!
One of the best watch reviews! I absolutely love my 2017 Pelagos. It's my work watch and gets abused on a daily basis. I keep swapping the bracelet out with the strap. It's hard to decide which one looks better. And for the price, you can't beat it...
Love Tudors. The price for them are way more justified than Rolex pieces. The minute quality difference between the two doesn't justify the Rolex being 2,3 times more expensive than a Tudor.
Suggestion for the Tudor Pelagos. I would recommend creating an updated Tudor Pelagos for 2020 with an oil resin to create 100% visibility for divers underwater. Examples include the Ressence Type-5 and Sinn UX (EZM-2B). The addition of the resin, in conjunction with the great quality of current model, would truly make the Pelagos the most superlative "tool" dive watch on the market.
What a great review. You did a great job. Titanium is such a cool metal. That piece looks so masculine and chunky yet it’s feather light. The blue and white dial is very positive, summery and fun. What a great offering by Tudor. Just so well thought out and functional. A real head turner. Well done and thanks for your time. Much appreciated. 👏
Late to this party it's July 2020 and I just bought one home. Everything he said is on the mark. Great practically review. A watch like this needs a review of its features and how they work together. Not a boring review of specs.
I'm glad this watch is priced so well but I think they could have charged 30% more and still sold them. Considering the titanium, in house movement, amazing bracelet, super cool lumed bezel, sapphire crystal, 70 hour power Reserve, multiple bracelets included, and pretty-much being a totally pretty unique piece overall with direct lineage to Rolex... Wow. Priced at 4400 currently, 2019, I would have paid 6000 for this watch if that were the price. That's what you are going to pay for a planet ocean or similar and that is almost 3,000 less than a Submariner. How cool that it is not 6,000! And, the lhd model, number series with additional tweaks, besides the left side Crown, like the red lettering on the dial and the slightly off white, vintage look, markers and so forth... That model is pretty sure to go up in value over time, I think. I think the pelegostos in general will maintain value or go up slightly overtime. This watch offers more than any other watch in the under $10,000 range. best of all it is so solidly a piece that reflects so much of the classic diver but it is totally modern piece in a way that really lets it stand alone.
An absolutely wonderful review that includes all the important details when making a decision of which watch is right for you. Complete with field use footage, lume shots and all specs with pros and cons. Very well done. Heading to the jeweler to trade in my two tone Sub for this blue one. You sold it!
Got mine in December.. Blue.. It´s my favorite watch by far...Only thing, my wrist´s a bit too wide for the off the case rubber band.. Only 3 notches left and fits tight. But it´s a grate looking sports watch.. Great value too.. I am super happy with it.
Man I thought James Stacey left the channel! He truly gets what guys usually use the rotating bezel for, timing pizza lol. I would prefer my full ceramic or carbotech Panerai for actual shallow divings. Titanium scratches more easily than the old plexiglass!
Excellent review!!! Do you have any reservations about the clasp being that it has the open slot for adjustment with sand getting in there ? Also, do the springs seem high quality? Thanks!!! Awesome review!!!!!
James - really loved this review as well as your review of the Tudor Black Bay Blue from last December 2014. Why haven't you done more video reviews for Ablogtowatch lately?
+RandomUser20130101 Doing my best, these videos (and the accompanying text and photos on ABTW) take a fair amount of time to produce. I will produce as much as I can in 2016. Thanks so much for the support.
Fantastic wristwatch went for the 2 line version as couldn’t get past the ridiculous amount of text on the 5 line. The firs night I wore it to bed the lume woke me up unbelievable.
Great review, I'd still advice (as long as they are still available!) to get a Pelagos 2012 - 2014 model. For collectability, servicing, 2 lines and 3 oçlock hour marker (I REALLY miss it in the lume shot around 11:00, it looks like it fell off!). Still this is simply an awesome watch! New Or Old!
+Nato The difference in thickness is not even apparent. I was comparing the two out at the AD. For some reason the older version looked thicker to me! And the salesperson actually agreed to it
+Guideaux Pelagos Im still happy that i got the old model. I wear a speedmaster as my edc, but i love this watch. Great diver/summer watch. The snowflake dial was the reason i got it, so having the date at 3 instead, just offsets the dial for me, the original is much cleaner and more pleasing to look at.
***** that is a misconception created by the Rolex marketing departement. Rarity and first editions are more sought after. For instance the Rolex Daytona with the Out-House Zenith El Primero movement is highly sought afyer.
Inhouse is only nice above 10K...under it is all marketing selling points. Also it is a tool/dive watch...why put a new movement in without history of being great as well as one can only service it at Rolex.... all that for something that is only visible when you open the case....#Sigh, #mindf#ck.
Great review! Your review felt so familiar, yet I couldn't put a finger to it. Finally realised it was you who reviewed the Tag Heuer WAN2110 back in 2011! Keep it up! Would you be reviewing the North Flag too?
I have a Seiko Marine Master 300. It is powered by the Grand Seiko 8L35 movement. Every now and then Seiko sneaks a movement from the far more expensive Grand Seiko line into their lower price point lines. The Prospex line is excellent for diving particularly the Tuna Seiko. The Marine Master 300 is an excellent dive watch, they retail for about $2200.00 US. Mine has stayed below +/-6seconds/day for the time that I've owned it and I wear it daily.
Great review, I'm still not 100% sure on Tudor, and not taken with the snowflake hour hand. That said, am looking forward to the BlackBay Bronze in the summer :) Keep up the good work Mike

Looks gigantic on his wrist. I used to have the original black version and I don't recall it being that much bigger then the Sub C. Love the blue though. Really a great homage to the original Snowflake Sub.
Excellent Review. Watch is very lovable one and it makes me wonder why is a Titanium Tudor cheaper than a steel Rolex when it has better waterproof rating than a submariner and a movement with better power reserve. I mean I know a Rolex is more refined in places but is it worth the almost double price?
Hamza Khawaja Luxury watch prices cost are always inflated including Tudor. It is due a lot to brand name and marketing, Rolex is the more prestigious brand, you can pick up a nice Longines Hydroconquest for 1/4 the price of the Tudor. Yes the Pelagos has some more features but the Hydroconquest has everything the Rolex Submariner has and that is 8k.
Except the Longines Hydroquest has a cookie cutter made to order ETA-2824 Elabore grade. Nothing particularly special about the movement. The MT5612 is in-house and in a different league.
Hamza Khawaja I like the Pellagos, but when you see a Submariner Date up close, you see the quality. It's built like a tank and the dial is enamelled gold with gold indicies. The Pellagos is printed and the watch won't have the resale value of the Rolex. The Pelagos looks cheaper and I'm sure the spring loaded clasp won't last as long as the Rolex's Glidelock or the whole watch in general. Apparently Titanium scratches quite easily. But half the price of the Rolex.
Love my Blue Peligos in house movt. Is COSC but seems to run at about 4 seconds slow in a 24hr period when wearing it to bed.. I did find that laying it on the crystal faced down at night brings the accuracy to 2 seconds slow. Thats neat.
Thank you for a really fun and informative review. I like this new model, and you have convinced me to try the 2015 on my wrist. Considering an omega smp 300 is available for only a few hundred £ less, I think this pelagos has no competition at the price point..gracie!
Warning to buyers. I purchased the blue Tudor Pelagos because of the great reviews and how nice it seemed at my local AD. After owning the watch for a few hours it sounded like the rotor became loose/detached and was scraping around inside of the case. The watch when holding the watch still and tapping the case back or sapphire crystal sounded like springs bouncing around inside of the case. I did some research online and saw other people with the same issue. I Took the watch to the local AD that actually has in house certified Rolex and Tudor watchmakers. They said the watch since being the new in house movement needed to go back to the Rolex service center and they would get back to me regarding repair costs. After reading a story online of a blue Pelagos owner who after six months still hadn't heard back from Rolex made me decide to return the watch instead of go through the headaches. I miss the watch and hope only a few are subject to whatever flaw or problem the new in house movement has.
I love the Pelagius but I prefer the black. Something about this tone of blue doesn’t speak to me. I wished it was a darker shade of blue similar to the blue that Omega uses for its Seamasters.
Does anyone have experience about the lasting of lume on a dive watch? The lume on the Pelagos is quite impressive, but how will it be in say 10 years?
I don't have a Tudor, got a Sea-Dweller couple months back, but it's good to know Tudor got away from ETA. Thank god. Rolex will service that beast, no problem. However, will cost a bit more.
+ryvr madduck There a reason for that, ETA announced that they would be phasing out supply of movements to any company not under the Swatch Group umbrella, that's why they introduced their own movement.
Great review, thanks. I will like to know your advice about some alternative to this watch with in-house movement, naturally al lower price of Rolex Submariner... Best regards, Pasquale from Spain.
finally a review that actually shows the Pelagos in the water and not just sitting on a desk!! THANK YOU
Impressed with the latest generation of Tudors.
I’m trying to decide between this one and the black bay 58 blue... which would you pick?
