Our band has like 6 flutes, 8 clarinets, 5 saxes way too many trumpets and percussion, and like 3 low voices... Yeah it's usually the saxes trying to help the percussion salvage the piece (by far the best section😉).

I completely agree with flute tuning. We play without tuning a lot in rehearsal and sometimes we just pause Nd look at each other when it doesn’t sound right. Most of the time we just tune ourselves by ear with the rest of the class. It gets so annoying😂
As a percussionist, I completly agree with the last one. We are thr only people that don't get completely messed up if someone plays a wrong note. When this happens in practice, it was always awkward because at that point we're just internally cringing and waiting for the BD to tell us to stop.
I’ve played sleigh ride so many fucking times it’s the bane of my existence. I’ve never hated any piece of music so much. And the fact that I’ve played four different arrangements and they all were EXACTLY THE FUCKING SAME kills me when I think about it

I play the trombone and tuba. Just a warning, if you ever play the trombone, NEVER dent the slide. the brass is so thin that you can literally bend the slide whole fully together with your pink and index finger on the same hand by pressing in. and if you dent the slide, it will not only play harder, but also make it WAYY harder to slide. also prepare to spend a lot of money on slide lubricant and even more if you buy crappy stuff
It’s funny because I’m a BD favourite, I play the oboe aka uncommon instrument, I also play the saxophone, I’m in Jazz and my entire Sax section loves play Carless Whispers 😂🤧
When I tell you I relate so much to the Saxes one because they are always talking and since I play the flute I'm right in front of them and they are not being as quiet as they could be

My band has: -1 oboe that's never heard over everyone else -4 flutes that are never in tune and always overblowing just to try and be heard -4 clarinets, 3 of which are highly competative when it comes to solos -1 alto sax that somehow manages to sleep in class and always squeaks -1 french horn that won't shut up and never practices -3 trumpets that blow out my (clarinetist) eardrums regardless of the piece -1 tuba who is actually really good and passionate -1 bari/tenor sax who overachieves constantly -1 baritone, nothing to say here -1 trombonist, she works really well with the baritone -7 percussionists that always have to do songs requiring 2 or try and manage one that requires 12

0:54 I go to contest. I tune my flute. I wait a few seconds, and check to make it’s in tune. It’s now VERY VERY sharp. I try to fix it by moving it barely a millimeter p. Now its extremely flat. I do this for a solid 3 minutes before just taking the entire flute head off and putting it back on. It is now in tune.
If the clarinets at my school played as well as you think they do in this video then maybe they wouldn't have to be separately taught by our student intern
In my band(5th grade band) we have sixteen trumpets and we are so loud so during our concert all you hear is drums and trumpets, then when clarinets do their solo or whatever,we just come in like 🎺TWINKLE TWINKLE LITTLE STAR🎺 (just used a song everyone would know lol). Istg you must be in my band- each year we play Sleigh Ride and someone from percussion runs into the audience with a wood block. Every other year we play Polar Express. I play the clarinet and am okay with the trills, just it’s a really high part haha
bro- we played sleigh ride when I was in 8th grade and as a bass clarinet I hated it, because not only did I play the four notes the whole piece, but it was also our tenth piece out of ten and my face was just done by the end
We trombones live it up to however out weight and Length of the instrument with the movement if the slide makes it to where we cant really move much freely while playing unless at an upward angle of course, we make slight movements if we truly love the Music and the feel and vibe from the other instruments
With the flute tuning vs. clarinet tuning one it’s because you have to get the head piece just right or its off key And in my class everyone else can do it but the tenor sax section is the one that sounds awful at first
