I’m a trumpet player and literally only one has a massive ego. He shows off all of the new songs he learns, and today he happened to ‘forget’ his trumpet but not forget a recorder that he played over the band director talking.
I used to be a trumpet player in the 4th grade I didn't have an ego no one else in my trumpet class had a ego like what does trumpet player with an ego look like our class did have this one kid who didn't show up for any of the night time concerts or the ones at other schools like he only showed up once and that was the one day time consert at our school.
Story time: One time when we were practicing in band my band teacher was getting annoyed because the clarinets were keep getting one note wrong. So he goes over to them and say your supposed to use your middle finger for the note, so he was keep telling him to flip him off.. He told this one girl to and she said I don’t want to! And everyone started laughing Also, he gave us all a talk for a whole class because a girl was on the phone with her boyfriend the whole night before. So he told us about how he used to talk about girls and only care about how they look and stuff. Then he said “but god punished me by giving me 2 daughters” and it was hilarious. He is like a dad to all of band
I have a dad like band director. He’s hilarious. He was talking about wanting to be Batman because superpowers required too much energy and he could have someone build the suit for him.
I do that with my trumpet. One day I had all of the 8th graders doing it cause I had the confidence to do so when I was bored since the 7th graders weren't in there

I'd say all the instruments are important in order to make good music. Or, at the very least, the instruments you want to include into your music. Each of them are important. But percussion sets the beat, you're right about that. The pitch instruments signal certain parts and so on

Percussion majors deserve the recognition, in my opinion (I do voice and piano so I can't really brag about myself, considering how little I can play bcuz it's SO DAMN HARD MOVING EVERY LIMB) they always have to be perfect because the beat depends on them. To the percussion peeps out there: the reason why you're thriving is because people give you shit and you give it back better

I’m a clarinet and In my section we have this saying “if you don’t practice we will take your knee caps.” We also have a thing about feet and routinely we will touch each other’s feet. We are also probably the only section with two group chats and we use them on the daily.
In my band there's an ongoing joke called "The Trumpet vs Flute War" where basically everyone has either picked team Trumpet or Flute and if one of those instruments messes up at all we say "GOD, SUCH A FLUTE/TRUMPET THING TO DO". I'm team trumpet, even though I'm actually a clarinet.
Percussion is absolute chaos. We just make noise for the sake of it, and that one saxophone is being yelled at by us because he's playing Wii music in our territory.
Fun fact: Back in 8th grade, I learned Megalovania on Sax. I played it a lot in Marching Band, so other people learned it either from listening to me or by looking it up. Eventually, one of the other altos played it during standby, and our director threatened to take the mouthpiece.
My old band director literally told the percussion section we can all be easily replaced. So I think the thing where the hell's kitchen treats percussion like crap then I 100% agree caus percussion always be doing something wrong
