  • The Harpers are a not so secret organisation that nonetheless operates in relative secrecy. They featured in the first Baldur's Gate games and are very likely to feature in BG3 as we can discover Harper stashes in Early Access. What they are and their history you will find out in this video!

We are clearly expected by Harpers and Jaheira will be here again to continously yell at us for restoration of equilibrium!

Your foster father from the first Baldur's Gate was a harper iirc. Gorion.

When I encountered the stash in the Underdark I knew Larian would do something interesting with them. I'm excited!

They seem like a very interesting faction (factions?) but the fact that they're so disjointed is definitely going to make it difficult for the player. Those stashes could be leads, or they could be plans they abandoned years ago. It'll be fun to see how it plays out.

    Excellent video!
Your pacing is perfect, solid information, and it's all-killer-no-filler material. 👍🏻
I agree, and hope that we see more of the faction in the full release.

"hope it's worth the wait" ?? that felt unnecessary. IMO I've already played My money's worth. BG3 is a way better game already than most I've laid out $60 for in past years.

I have had my share of run ins with the Harpers in pen and paper and I am curious to see how they are implemented in BG3. Nice video and thanks for making it!

besides a hero or a menace, I think your player character can be a grey one, go to the grey path. I suppose the true path can be unlocked by the good path and the grey path in specific conditions.

I think that we could be either Harper-like or terrible beyond belief. It's up to us the players how we affect the world. We could also be something in-between, neither good or bad, just people trying their best to live and not fall to the Illithid tadpoles.

In truth, some of the first books I experienced that got me into D&D were involving the Harper's -- especially Elaine Cunningham's books that welcomed so many characters tied to the Harper organization...
While it's been a minute since I've done a campaign or played Baldur's Gate, I still feel excited hearing this is an option.
Actually-- listening to your description of the Harper's Guidelines, I can't help but think of the SCP Foundation a little bit now that I hear how there are some similarities in how they conduct their respective businesses despite being in two very different story and world settings.😅
Thanks for the refresher, I look forward to using this to game more in the future!

not sure if you've been made aware but the final "panel from hell" from Larian for the game showed a bit of the second (i think) act, which involved the player dealing with the harpers pretty heavily. jaheira as well. this is particularly interesting for me as my first planned player character (half-drow bard, school of swords) is fascinated by the group and looking to join them if possible 👍

Now I'm feeling bad for looting their caches. -_- "Sorry guys ah, can I pay you back! Hey ah can I join you, please?"

If they are against the three who also might be this mysterious Absolute I sure hope we can join forces. Granted they probably could not trust us entirely if they found out we have tadpoles in our heads. Still success on presuasion and deception etc rolls I hope would give us a chance to form a tentitve alliance. Even if hey kept the player and their team somewhat in the dark regarding operations it would be nice to have help. The enemy of my enemy is my friend after all.

The Harper organization wasn't particularly well portrayed in BG2, or even portrayed as a capable and respectable group to begin with (in fact, I found them rather dumb and annoying), and I think that impression sticks with me to this day. I got to know them a bit better in Tyrants of the Moonsea, which also offered a welcome insight into a region of Faerun that I wasn't all that familiar with before. We'll see if BG3 can help redeem the Harpers and endear them to me.
