Imo other than the emperor trying to stop you from going in (likely for his own selfish reasons) there really wasnt much weight behind teleporting into avernus. This back story definitely helps.
Looking forward to this. I wish the Outer Planes were more explored in general. D&D games only touch upon them, with Planescape Torment covering it the most.
I personally would want a game about travels between different crystal spheres, maybe with a spelljammer as our base. Sorta like Mass Effect but in DnD universe.
Creating a portal to hell and the house of hope part was one of my favourite moments in the whole game, I sincerely wish they expanded more on the hells. Having Avernus as a playable zone would be so amazing. The way Larian brought Devils to life was soooooo good.
Obviously but Alighieri's work tells you very little about the Nine Hells in the D&D setting. The River Styx is also taken from Greek mythology and yet has its own implementation in the D&D cosmos.
@@spellandshield Agreed. They have definitely spun it their own way but the inspiration is obvious along with the HP Lovecraft influences in D&D. It is a Dungeon Master Guide tradition to put suggested works for campaign inspiration such as games, movies and books in the glossary section. At least one of them has listed The Divine Comedy, which led me to listen to the audiobook (I cannot remember exactly whether it was D&D or the Pathfinder Game Master Guide that listed it).
More great lore S&S !!! I would have liked a bit more time in Avernus. WOTR had you enter the world wound, and due to the high level demons, allowed for a high character level. WE could have had the same.

@@СергейНиколаеску That would be very cool. Considering WOTC is working on a new Spelljamer it could happen.
I agree wholeheartedly.
I want an expansion to go to and save Karlach. She is the best.

Always love me some Spell&Shield lore videos!
Perfect! More lore for when I run Decent into Avernus after Rime of the Frost Maiden!
The 9 hells is just a reference to the Divine Comedy by Dante Alighieri aka Dante's Inferno.

I love how Larian made those blood war infernal engines in the trailer

It would be very cool indeed.
another remarkable video, thanks =)
Great video!
Imagine a place where 2 out of 3 people have a law degree.
Avernus-set expansion or BG4 Avernus
Are we in Avernus right now?
Blood War never touch the Abyss?
It certainly does but that is a separate video!
