The biggest thing I'm looking forward to is actually seeing how many people we recruit along the way to join our camp and journey with us! There are so many characters you meet that you can either suggest or elude to them being able to join you in the early access, but it usually just runs into a dead-end. The idea of not just having companions, but also dynamic and interesting NPC's with their own goals and desires joining the camp and going along for the ride fascinates me, it's something I haven't really seen in other RPGs. I actually thought Karlach might just be one of those NPCs you'll be able to recruit along the way (like Volo or Halsin?....maybe Alfira?). This video is actually the first I've heard of her potential as a full-blown companion, which is awesome! Really looking forward to seeing how all of these things pan-out when the early access ends and we get the full release.
Yea, at the very least, it seems you’ll bump into her again in Baldur’s Gate and have a few missions where she joins your party - perhaps like Glut in the Underdark. I’d be super excited if she could actually become a companion!
I am really looking forward to Karlach; personally I think she could be an Oathbreaker paladin but maybe that is just wishful thinking. Great video and I really liked the score you used!
That's what I thought; moreover, I think we might be allowed to choose between her and the Paladin of Tyr (can't recall his name). Either way we get an Oathbreaker in our party for Act 2.
I’m looking forward to this, and Shadowheart getting her memories back. I keep imagining that she will go from being kinda neutral to straight evil once her memories return.
9:05 I figure because Wizards of the Coast also makes Magic the gathering and D&D, they would probably have some insight into her class. No doubt they talked to Larian Studios about it before releasing the card. 👀 I can't imagine they would do that as a misdirection for an official card for the game. That would be wasteful to do, so if a misprint so to speak then it would be worth more later on when corrected. But I'll err on the side of caution, and say that they probably got it right and that she's a barbarian. There are however a lot of different types of Barbarians now, from the slow and brutish to magical. When wonders just what kind of Barbarian she'll be. An additional thought, if you can play her as an Origin character and you romance Astarion, would she have more insight about the pact on his back then anyone else would? As one who has been in the hells for a long time and is fluent in the language, perhaps she would know more about it than perhaps anyone else ever could just off hand.
I would hope that Karlach could help translate the message in the game and see if we can help Astarion get released from his curse and the message on his back.
Baeloth was in BG 1&2 and a Sorcerer but his card class is Shaman sadly so they apparently don't care enough about accuracy/consistency for the card to be an indicator.
@@spellandshield 1000% agree. In many ways I felt it even beat out Pillars of Eternity (though I love that game too!) And I can't fully understand why it was overlooked so much!

As usual, very well produced. She could definately be one of the more interesting Companions. For now, when you take out her pursuers she heads to BG for payback, which had me wondering how someone gets sent to Avernus?
4:00 depends on what sense of 'opposite' or 'contrary' 4:18 or would / wouldn't based on what would be their arbitrary judgement of evil, it would still be lawful to not keep it consistently simply, there would be no guarantee or reason for them to keep it
I await the release where she is recruitable because I want to see "Demonsbane!" as a level 1 character. (I rather like that Gale, as a level 1 wizard, had direct dealing with gods and artifacts.)
Funny when I went to the other group they say she had done many evil things and that she was a devil in disguise, so who to believe went back and did throw holy water to her which did strangle 2 damage but seems would do more vs a devil so I knew enough.
I have a separate idea about Karlach, which will be very interesting in the full release; does Kalach relate in some way to the sponsor of another devil focused character, Will? I know, this is kind of an off topic thought, but is it at least possible that Will’s patron and Karlach share a level of similarity?
Thank you for helping me have greater understanding of the blood war and how demons act. I'm sort of twisting it a bit in my fanfiction that I'm writing but I think it will work.
@@spellandshield It is an ongoing work of what *I think* happens to an Eilistraee worshiping Drow named Teala as she travels with her companions Shadowheart, Astarion, Halsin, Gale, Wyll, Lae'zel and other familiar characters from Baldur's Gate 3 Early Access, and what happens to them after Baldur's Gate 3's Early Access. It is a not safe for work story for adults and for most of the story I give hints as to what will happen to avoid triggering anyone (hopefully). I've added a few more original and established characters and I added some things about liches. I will be adding stuff after Chapter 4 and before and after Chapter 9, and it will probably end up as a book series or an ongoing novel. 🥰
Certainly one of the companions I'm looking forward to, slightly disappointed if she is a barbarian as I was hoping she'd be a Paladin (Oath of Vengeance). Although I don't think there's enough to give a real impression of her personality, she seems pretty straightforward and direct, not much for deception. I don't think she'll like Shadowheart or Astarion much due to their deceptive natures, probably get on with Lae'zel and probably Gale too. I think Wyll would be worried about her as an agent of devils, considering his situation, though I imagine she wouldn't care much.
If Karlach was in the Nine Hells for a "substantial amount of time", which can be defined as "years" or "decades", it is implausible to theorize that she was in Elturel when it was pulled into the Nine Hells, as Baldur's Gate 3 takes place only a year or two after the event.
I think the refusal to join is a EA thing, so Larian could have her in Act 1 with the npc's in the Toll-house. But also I hope for some dynamics in the companions; Like certain once refuse to join the party if they hate character(s) that already are in the party. Or even refuse to be in camp with certain ones. Like a Lawful Good can refuse to join, if a Chaotic Evil already are a party member. Or other reasons, so you just can't pick up every potential companion, but have to do some choices, to match Players "path" in the game. Maybe in the full game, come across some narrated choices, and get reminded about the Alignment-path your character has.
Karlach sounds like a ranger, to be honest. She wields a ranged weapon, "hunts demons", is really good at killing them in particular. But I can see her as a barbarian too, although a very weird barbarian path. If she was a spawn of Zariel, not by contract, but by blood, that would make even more sense. Zariel has no children of her own, as far as I know, so this could mean more lore about her.
According to the magic the gathering Baldur's Gate 3 card releases, she is a barbarian. You can look this up on their Twitter account from around mid-May of this year. ✌️
Unlikely, party members are level 1 when they join (so a fighter wouldn't have their subclass yet) and we do already have Lae'zel as a fighter companion
@@zomenis I have recruited la,zael, astarion and gale at level two. They scale directly to whatever level you are when you find and choose to recruit them. Plus there is no reason as to why they wouldn't have another fighter character considering its a very versatile martial class. With la'zael being two handed, karlach could definitely be a champion (lore wise fitting) with archery fighting style (holding a crossbow). Not saying it's definitive, especially considering speculation hardly ever is. Just giving my thought process and reasoning.
I'm a little bit disappointed in this recruitment quest (at least that's what I think it is). One of my current playthroughs is an evil Zariel tiefling warlock; I was hoping to be able to sympathize with the paladins and punish Karlach for desertion. No such luck. I know Larian couldn't reasonably account for EVERY possibility but it would've been nice.
I really hope there are more companions during full release because I wasn't particularly fond of any in early access. Only Shadowheart seemed a bit interesting due to the whole amnesia business but she had the whole "ho ho i have a secret but i ain't gonna tell you. But i want to remind you i have a secret ho ho!" Studd going on that got annoying. Also Astarion. He got dealt a very bad hand in term of roleplay entry into the party.
Tieflings are another race unfortunately... ruined... by 4th and 5th edition. I kinda wish I could see past that in Karlach. Maybe she should just be an actual devil/cambion, and I think it would be way more interesting for her to be a ranger specializing in killing demons. I really hope they are not going to try making her morally neutral or good.
