The sound you're referring to is the AVAS (acoustic vehicle alerting system) which is now mandatory on all vehicles that operate silently (electric power) up to about 19 mph in order to alert pedestrians of the approaching car. Manufacturers can select their own, sound as long as it meets the decibel requirements. Most of us CR-V Hybrid owners refer to it as "The song of Angels" 😊. Some people wish they had the option of selecting other sounds, but that doesn't appear to be possible at this time (the Jetsons flying car sound is a popular 'wish list' item).
Great review from actual owner ! Just got one, in transit ( 2021 hybrid Touring ) for my wife yesterday. Have to wait a few weeks for it. One dealer contacted me and told me they want my business and took off 3,400 of msrp! Went, deal done in 2hrs 15 min. On our way home, realized we didn't even test drive it... 😂. Not at all worried.... It's a Honda!! Can't wait to get ours, enjoy your crv bro! So glad I didn't go with 2022 Hyundai Tucson.
You got a smoking deal. I have one coming in the next few weeks and dealers are now getting over MSRP because of the demand. Costco membership gets you $750 under MSRP but beware of the dealer Add-ons they force you to buy. Right now it is a sellers market. Shop for the right deal but the days of paying invoice or lower are over for a while.
Yeah I’m glad I bought when I did. Bought right before all these shortages hit. I predict this doesn’t last past mid 2022. I’m tempted to sell mine now for a profit. I have another reliable car. Not going on any long trip soon. So I don’t NEED this one. I’m always looking for ways to make money haha.
Like your decision to avoid the turbo and get the hybrid with port injection. I also will avoid any Honda turbo. Look forward to your updates on this hybrid.
Glad you like your CR-V but it doesn't have 212 hp on demand at all times. Actually, most of the time the max hp you'll have is the two electric motors.
181 hp and 232 lb ft torque typicallly. But at 100mph the clutch will close and the engine will spin at 6200rpm which creates the engines peak HP combined with the generators peak HP for a total system HP of 212 at once.
Congratulations to your latest purchase! I'm also swapping from Korean cars to Honda recently because of some reliability issues and mechanical problems.
Thanks! I’ll be doing a 3 month update this weekend. Be sure to stay tuned or subscribe to check that out. I took it on a 2000+ mile road trip and have learned a lot about it good and bad.

Thank you for an excellent review. My EX will be delivered in December (obsidian blue). I am wondering how do that push button shift feel. Is that something to get used to? Cheers.
It took a few months. I kept reaching for something haha. Especially in a hurry and I’d be fumbling around with the buttons. But after about 7-8 months I don’t think I’d want to go back. It is much better and safer. For example if you forget to put it in park and you turn the car off it automatically puts it in park for you. Or if you forget to park it and open the door without your seatbelt on it puts it in park for safety. Very good safety features from using an electronic gear selector. And now it’s second nature to just push the buttons quickly and driving my other car with a traditional gear shift seems odd. Anyways come back and let me know how you like it once you get it and drive it around a while. I hope you enjoy it!!
Seems like a very thoughtful design. I had a CRV (2000) before then wanted wanted to try a hybrid, got a Prius (2014) which I will trade in. Thanks for the quick response.

The CRV hybrid uses the same technology and engine as the accord hybrid. Which is very much proven. I needed an SUV that was true AWD and got 30+ mpg. This was my only choice for its price range. It uses an Atkinson cycle, port fuel injected (no Direct injection) bullet proof 2.0L engine and 2 very well designed, Japanese made permanent magnet electric motors/generators. These will go for half a million miles easily. Will need likely one battery replacement in that time frame.
The only better choice would have been the Rav 4 hybrid. But it doesn’t have true mechanical AWD and that was a deal killer. But you are wrong when you say the CRV isn’t proven. This is the last design year of the 2017-2021 CRV model. They have worked out all the kinks for all of the non drivetrain components. Adding in a proven drivetrain makes this a very reliable car. Much more reliable than any redesigned theta engine or the 1.5 turbo in the regular CRV which is atrocious and not reliable at all.
