Do NOT let it “air dry” for 24 hours. You want to apply Tegaderm/SecondSkin/Saniderm right away, let the plasma build up under the film - it actually heals the skin very well, and helps the ink stay in place. Seepage is totally fine and normal. 1. Apply immediately after tattoo is done - leave for 24 to 48 hours. 2. Remove the film gently in shower and very carefully wash with gentle scent free cleanser. 3. Pat dry with paper towel 4. Reapply fresh Tegaderm/SecondSkin/Saniderm using the same method described in the video 5. Leave it on for 6 days 6. Repeat the cleansing process and then use a good quality moisturizer (preferably scent free and not too greasy) You’re good to go ! Shouldn’t have any scabbing or itching !! This is the proper way to use this healing method
Hello thank you for you comment it actually helped me with what's going on. I have 1 questions as I'm getting my first tattoo (upper hip) touched up in a about week and am thinking of using Tegaderm to heal it the second time around as originally it stuck to my clothes. Can I should I apply a thin layer of tattoo balm before applying the second patch?
Better to put tegaderm right after tattoo instead of letting air dry for 24hours. Let sit for 2 days let the blood plasma and ink ooze into the tegaderm, that's completely okay and great for the skin. Your body uses your natural liquids to keep skin moisturized. After 42 hours apply a 2nd coverage of tegaderm. Seepage is still okay and normal. It's actually better as long as the seepage does not exit the tagderm patch. Leave 2nd later in for 6 more days. Skips the peeling process and the skin won't peel, the ink will stay in and no faded look will appear. Apply a 3rd layer if you want for another 3 days but that kinda over board.
Hi! Tegaderm is pricey. It's about $20 a box, if not more. Your method would have you spending a ton of money! This method I show in the video is simple, easy, and saves you a ton of money and time.
I love derm products, where I live the artists actually wrap tattoos with it. So I get saniderm on right away and leave it on for about 4 days. It's nice, there is no fuss at all!
My tattoo artist put on the tegaderm right after he was done, so i had an extreme amount of plasma under the tegaderm. Mine never got itchy and its an extremely vibrant tattoo 😄
Cliff Notes for anyone in a hurry 1. Keep the wrap or cling film that your tattoo artist gives you on for 24hours 2. Clean tattoo next day with antibacterial soap and lukewarm water, pat gently with a paper towel 3. Apply tegaderm or saniderm and keep on for 48-72 hours (there may be seeping or ink pooling that’s okay) 4. Remove the tegaderm (I recommend under running lukewarm water to remove any residue) and apply a very small amount of unscented gentle lotion (lubriderm) 5. Done!
As a runner this video was very helpful. I've been searching for a solution to protect new tattoos from the constant friction from clothing while out running. Thanks!
Love this! I did a ton of RUclips tattoo aftercare tutorial searching prior to getting my tat last week... and although I didn't use tegaderm this time, totally saving this video for the next time!
Not having it on the 1st 24 hours kind of defeats the main benefit. The point is to have the tattoo protected from infection during the times that are more likely which is like the 1st 72 hours
I've just got my 2nd tattoo. I left the Tegaderm on for 72 hours so got it on Sunday and it's now Wednesday. I've just washed it and applied a small amount of cream and now put the 2nd piece of Tegaderm on and I plan on leaving that on for 4-6 days 😊
Just got a thigh tattoo & my artist put saniderm on there, which I kept on for 24 hours. So glad you made this video bc I need it to heal fast & need something to protect it from jeans at work
Thank you for showing the crystallization of the seeping ink!! I’ve used a derm product once before, but juuuust long enough ago that I’ve forgotten how weird the tattoo can look and feel during the process 😅 My new tattoo seeped a ton under the derm and now has some areas that have crystallized ink. Nowhere on the internet have I seen people mention it until this video, so I was just a tad worried that it was scabbing weirdly or something. You’ve totally put me at ease!
just got my first tattoo and decided to do this healing method... my artist put on some Saniderm after the tattoo and told me to keep it on for 24hrs.. i kept it on just over 24hrs cause of the time i got the tattoo and when i came home the next day. When i took off the initial bandage it looks healed haha.. no redness no liquid no blood.. nothing... but i washed it and let it air dry for 30mins.. put on a brand new sheet of tagederm on it and it's been 24hrs... still no fluids or anything.. my skin is reacting to the glue from the saniderm, but yah even touching it doesnt hurt and no itching.. .. i might just take it off after 48 hrs..
This is the exact process I go through when my tattoos heal, except I keep the saniderm/tegaderm on for the first 24 hours. If I need to reapply I take off the bandage, clean my tattoo and then put on another layer for the next few days.
Thank you so much for this video! ☺️ coconut oil can also be used to slowly take of the bandage too! it tugs less on the skin and is slightly less painful than just pulling it off.
Thanks for this video. I just got a hand tattoo and my tattooist suggested tegaderm. It looks good. He has told me to keep it on for a week to 10 days.
Thanks for the update video! This is my first time using it, so it's nice to see what will happen in a couple days. My artist said that to make it a little less painful, run some warm water over it while you are removing it, and make sure you pull downwards, not out. :) Thanks again!!
Just watching because I'm on day 4 of tegaderm healing. And I'm nervous about taking it off tomorrow. I already did my 24 hour change and I'm on day 3 of the second bandage. There's something nerve racking about having a sticky bandage on a tattoo when you've been traditional healing for over 10 years lol
Pulled off my saniderm yesterday morning after 3rd day. Yeah the crystallizing freaked me out a bit. Thanks for your video explanation, appreciated the great details. Great tattoo too. Subbed and dubbed 🤙🏽
Thanks for this video! I had to layer 18 pieces of tegaderm over my chest piece. Miami has a tegaderm shortage apperently. 😂 Great video, and awesome work! Ace's high puts out solid work. 🤙 Got my Bela Lugosi piece done at the West Palm Beach spot when my boy Joe was zapping there. Thanks again for the video! 🤙
Instead of cling wrap my tattoo artist uses tegadrum right after he cleans it. He says keep it on for 4 days but usually i keep it on for 3 and it doesnt scab or anything it just gets dry so i put lotion on it 😊
I used it to heal my latest tattoo after watching your first video about it. It was amazing. My Tattoo is so vibrant and I totally skipped all the scabbing 😁
Kayleigh Kill The product is designed to be stretched so that it's a easy and relatively painless and less damaging on people with thin skin. It works by allowing the skin underneath to breath while keeping water and other elements out.
So I just took off my Saniderm after 7 days and to my surprise the result wasn't what I was expecting... I thought that when it comes off it would look soft and bright and nice but instead it was super dry and entirely covered with scabs. I just washed it and moisturized it with my soap and balm from Tat Jacket, which I thought at that 7th day with Saniderm, i would no longer need. What could have happened? One thing is that I didn't get the Saniderm right after my tattoo was done, I started doing the dry healing method fot the first 3 days and then I went to see my tatto artist and she recomended me the Saniderm, on the 3rd day. So my tattoo is now 10 days old and i thought i should be completely perfect by this point. I'm very sad :( it's the largest piece I have and it's on my thigh. It makes me sad because I still have to be extra careful with it so it doesn't get rouined when the scabs come off.
Three days is way too late. And in my opinion, 24 hours it too late, too. Next time, try applying it within a few hours of your appointment. Remove that one after 24 hours, then apply a second one, which can remain for 5-7 days.
Replying to amber. Thats what my artist suggested. she put one in instantly then told me wait 24 hours. Remove and replace. She said it will start to come off on its own after about a week and that means it healed and ready
The artist usually applies saniderm after they wipe and disinfect it. They usually apply the film once they're finished taking pictures. Some artists are a bit behind on new healing methods.
Dude, most of us don't live in California or Vegas. We can literally leave water running all day and it doesn't hurt anything. It goes into a drain right back to a filtration plant, gets filtered and reused or recycled back into the river..... you must just be used to living in a place with limited water, that isn't the case for most of us.
My artist wrapped with Tega about 10min after finishing the session. He told me to keep it on for 5-7 days before I remove it and clean it. I’m currently on day 5 and it’s been a battle with itchiness. I plan on removing the Tega on day 7 finally.
You don't have to wait 24 hrs.. just make sure it's clean after first bandage comes off and good to go.. I had back tattoos and cannot do that since it comes into contact with everything
Kayleigh Kill you really don't need it. The washing and air drying is plenty. Adding alcohol is needlessly harsh and possible why you end up with "crystals". I've healed several large and small tattoos with Tegaderm and never had that issue.
Man I really hope you see this but I left mine on for 72 hours, took it off, washed the residue off, dried it with a paper towel. It’s super dry! Is it supposed to be that dry? I added lotion but It’s already drying up real quick. I don’t want to add any more lotion cause I believe that will over moisturize it.
So dont you put Tegaderm on straight the way after your tattoo has finished? I have used Tatu-Derm and YaYo skin guard so far and had 4 bad reactions from both Derms 2 of them leaving me in hospital the other 2 times I had to go see my doctor and every time I was put on 8 antibiotics a day as both Derms gave me cellulitis so the Dermatologist thinks, but I need my sleeves finishing off but am scared to use a skin derm in case it happens again, the easier option is to let it heal the normal traditional way but I can't because my job is so so dirty I am literally covered in black sand and dust all day, so thought use a so called second skin (not the brand) but every derm is a second skin right, but each time ive used it ive been so ill, what happens is my tattooist will finish a 3-6 hour session then wipe it down and put a derm on that I bought myself as its still new in the UK a lot of tattooist have never heard of a derm, then I will go home and eventually go bed wake up in the morning and I will have a huge air pocket full of fluid, ink, blood, plasma, and then it either bursts or it will leak, so will take it off as I'm in agony feels like its on fire and wash it and its red raw, now I switched derms as I thought I might be allergic to the adhesive on the Tatu-derm after using it twice but the same thing happened with the YaYo brand I thought I would be OK with that 1 as its all vegan so after 2 goes with that I''m like shit what do I do so bought Tegaderm but now wondering if all the derms have the same adhesive that is causing this, but maybe not? I know I must have sensitive skin but im so scared to use a 3rd brand Tegaderm in case I end up with cellulitis again, but maybe the adhesive is different? or the tattooist is putting it on wrong or too soon or what my head is a mess cuz I cant figure out what to do, the doctors told me its probably the adhesive that is causing it as its against my open wound, but now after reading and watching I'm thinking my tattooist is putting it on to early as a lot of people have said dont put it on for at least the first 24 hours, but she puts her derm on straight the way when she has a new tattoo, now im confused and im just wasting my money as the tattooist keeps going over the same tattoo as obviously the ink either fell out or is patchy and im not getting anywhere soon, and im embarrassed about my arms as my tattooist is covering up old shitty sleeves and the summer is just about here and I dont want to have to wear long sleeve tops all the time in the summer cuz I will just roast up, any thoughts and suggestions you beautiful people, sorry for the long ass message..
Best and most informative "how to tegaderm your tattoo" video and great personality! Thank you!!
Thank you so much Ryan! That means a lot!
3. Pat dry with paper towel
4. Reapply fresh Tegaderm/SecondSkin/Saniderm using the same method described in the video
5. Leave it on for 6 days
6. Repeat the cleansing process and then use a good quality moisturizer (preferably scent free and not too greasy)
You’re good to go ! Shouldn’t have any scabbing or itching !!
This is the proper way to use this healing method
Thank you! I clutched my pearls so fast--
Hello thank you for you comment it actually helped me with what's going on. Tattooed Nail Girl no, remove the first one, wash, then reapply
Hi! Tegaderm is pricey. It's about $20 a box, if not more. Your method would have you spending a ton of money! This method I show in the video is simple, easy, and saves you a ton of money and time.
you can buy a big roll of it for like 35 bucks on amazon which has lasted me like 5 months and 7 tattoo sessions
Meh. I say to each her own. I spend several hundred dollars on my tattoo. I can spend $20 on a box of Tegaderm.
Scoowap Scoowap do you use alcohol wipe again for the second application of tegaderm?
I love derm products, where I live the artists actually wrap tattoos with it. So I get saniderm on right away and leave it on for about 4 days. It's nice, there is no fuss at all!
That's awesome!
My tattoo artist put on the tegaderm right after he was done, so i had an extreme amount of plasma under the tegaderm. Mine never got itchy and its an extremely vibrant tattoo 😄
That's awesome!
Mine did that too
How long did you keep it on?
Isabelle Arena i have soooo much plasma under mine rn! How.long did you leave yours on for?
A world renowned tattoo artist did this too. I have now asked for this technique on all of mine.
Cliff Notes for anyone in a hurry
1. Keep the wrap or cling film that your tattoo artist gives you on for 24hours
2. Clean tattoo next day with antibacterial soap and lukewarm water, pat gently with a paper towel
3. Apply tegaderm or saniderm and keep on for 48-72 hours (there may be seeping or ink pooling that’s okay)
4. Remove the tegaderm (I recommend under running lukewarm water to remove any residue) and apply a very small amount of unscented gentle lotion (lubriderm)
5. Done!
Omg thank you lol I was looking for this!

I only clicked on this video to say that SNAPE NEVER DESERVED LILY, NOT IN THE SLIGHTEST
Troupe Member 14 SAME
Troupe Member 14 how does Neville deserve Luna ?
LOL
THIS! Romanticise his crusty obsession all you like but keep Lily out of it.
I find myself coming back to this video after every new tattoo I get. Lol it works wonderfully. Thank you!
Tegaderm is amazing!!! I will never heal without again.
It truly is a miracle product! ha
Wow Is that snape and Lilly? Thanks for the advice
Just got a thigh tattoo & my artist put saniderm on there, which I kept on for 24 hours. So glad you made this video bc I need it to heal fast & need something to protect it from jeans at work
You informed more in 7 mins than my tattoo artist and 79 youtubers did in 59 combined hours.

Awesome, thank you! Looking forward to it!

I will surely do your method after gettin’ my touch up/enhance this weekend. My first tat was just a complete mess.
Your tattoo reminds me of the three cheers album cover :)
I like her eyeshadow
Thanks for this video! I had to layer 18 pieces of tegaderm over my chest piece. Miami has a tegaderm shortage apperently. 😂

dani macdonald in that sitwayson your tattoo not peeling bud?
wish they had that stuff when I got inked, lol. less messy than A&D ointment
Yes! Its really awesome!
I just got my second tattoo touched up today and I found this extremely helpful! Thanks, Kayleigh!
I'm so glad!! :)
The roll of Tegaderm is a better deal than a bunch of big patches.
I used it to heal my latest tattoo after watching your first video about it. It was amazing. My Tattoo is so vibrant and I totally skipped all the scabbing 😁
I'm so happy!!
omg! i love your snape/lilly tattoo! i saw it on pinterest a couple days ago!!!
THANK YOU SO MUCH!
I have a deathly hallows tat as well!
AND a rebel alliance tat.. Dude!
Just got my first tat and this is very helpful! Also snape and lily, absolutely love the tat ;)
I just applied tegaderm to my tattoo. Its my first time using it 😊
How did it turn out??
I got a Harry Potter tattoo just a few days ago. I love yours.
Hey I recognize this tattoo! I got my first tattoo done by the same artist! Love Erin!!
If the tegaderm is fully breathable as a second skin, why do you air it out for 24 hours before applying?
You're not supposed to wait that long. Infection, irritation, and scabbing will begin immediately if anyone waits that long.
my pool of ink eventually comes out the bottom every time. tat still heals well everytime
Moisturising snape. Love it. Hehe.
hahaha!!
I cringed soooo hard when you pulled it off. Stretch it down as you take it off and it will be waaaaaay more forgiving.
I'll try this method next time! Thank you!
Kayleigh Kill The product is designed to be stretched so that it's a easy and relatively painless and less damaging on people with thin skin. It works by allowing the skin underneath to breath while keeping water and other elements out.
why
Ive used currel non scented lotion and healed pretty nice
So I just took off my Saniderm after 7 days and to my surprise the result wasn't what I was expecting... Super helpful. Thanks so much for the video ❤️
This is a very awesome video! Very good job!
Have you thought of using saniderm instead? I've heard some good things about it and am thinking of using it on my own tattoos...
thank you for the step by step. I have to say though, hate that you leave the water running. hope you take this into consideration
You are gorgeous. I’ve never even heard of this I wish I would of had this with my last tattoo
Great video thank you so much
This was very helpful thank you so much
and this is actually very help ful
FIRST AND I LUVVVV YOU YOU'RE AWSOMEEE💗💗💗💋💋💋💋
My artist wrapped with Tega about 10min after finishing the session. He told me to keep it on for 5-7 days before I remove it and clean it. I’m currently on day 5 and it’s been a battle with itchiness. I plan on removing the Tega on day 7 finally.
I got my tattoo Sunday and I’m terrified to remove the tegaderm
Helpful 🎉❤
wow someone that actually gives a fuck about her artist work and time that they take to do that beautiful art your so gorgeous by the way
To painlessly (ish) remove tegaderm you need to pull it parallel to your skin to ‘stretch’ it and it will come off very easily.
It's better to not rip the tegaderm off like a bandaid, rather pull it downwards to "release" it from the skin.
You’re super cool! Very informative video! :3 Thanks for sharing!
When you were letting it air out for 24 hours, were you still washing it the few times a day?
Awesome tattoo!
How many days do you suggest using it then? 3 days? 5 days?
I put mine on this morning and theres moisture behind it already... is that normal?
Basically the ink is letting coming out underneath
Thanks!
Is it fine to shower with the tegaderm on and let it get wet?
Thanks for the info!!!
Do you guys in America not just leave your tattoo to heal naturally?
thats dope! Is your tattoo from something?
Martin Chavez It's a Harry Potter tattoo
Kirstie Alfonso oh, thats cool!
Great video, congrats 😃
Thank you!
My artist said to leave mine for 3 days and put the tegaderm on right after he finished. DONT AIR DRY
You don't have to wait 24 hrs.. just make sure it's clean after first bandage comes off and good to go.. I had back tattoos and cannot do that since it comes into contact with everything
wauw dat schilderij op de achtergrond heeft echt mijn aandacht getrokken! ik wil m ook!!!
Why do you use the alcohol wipe before?
It helps to kill any bacteria and really dry out the area for the application of the Tegaderm.
Kayleigh Kill you really don't need it. The washing and air drying is plenty. Adding alcohol is needlessly harsh and possible why you end up with "crystals". I've healed several large and small tattoos with Tegaderm and never had that issue.
I went out and about in NYC with my new tattoo and im hoping that I dont get infections before I put on the tegaderm. >_
Great and informative 🙂
I accidentally purchased the one with the absorbent pad.... can I still use it ??
My guy says leave it open to air . Works for me.
Question: Do wash every single time before you use lotion? I'm wondering when I should stop washing my tattoo other than when I shower.
Hi! You wash it when you remove the Tegaderm, then begin to wash normally in the shower, while being careful because it will still be sore.
It hasn’t been 24 hours for me yet, there is already some scabbing, is it safe to still put tegaderm on it tonight?
Hi! You used tegaderm for 72 hours. Can I use it for more days? I mean at least a week? What do you recommend me ?
Is it okay to use coco butter lotion?
How do I clean the area around the tattoo we’re the saniderm was. There’s this weird square around my tattoo and it is sticky and attracting dirt
I love love love how your tattoo looks. I am so going to try the tegaderm on my next ink.
Thank you! Let me know how it went!
Girl, i love your tattoos!!!
After using tengaderm can you go outside without covering your tattoo or is it still to early for that?
You should immediately put the tegaderm on once the tattoo appointment is finished. Leave it on for 4 days.
Is that Severus & Lily 🥺🥺
Stretch and lift! A lot less painful when you remove that way.
