- JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) - At an age when most of us would be happily retired, Huey Williams Sr. is still hitting the stage.
He spent most of his long life immersed in the uplifting sounds of spiritual music. Through the decades, the beats have picked up and the bars have changed. Williams said, "You pretty much maintain the elderly people by traditional Gospel, but if you want to feed into the younger generation, you kind of have to modernize that thing a little bit, step it up."
Williams serves as the Jackson Southernaires lead singer and manager. The group has released nearly 30 albums and has been a mainstay on the Gospel charts. They also earned a Grammy nomination. Williams credits the Southernaires' success with practicing what they preach. He said, "If you're singing about God, be about God."
Williams' younger brother Doug is also an accomplished singer. Doug Williams talked about his brother saying, "He's doing great things in ministry, still touching people's lives in a positive way, all over the world. So, I just pray Godspeed upon him."
Huey Williams shows no signs of slowing down. When he was asked about retiring, he said, "My answer to that question is, how do you give up on God? How do you give up on Gospel? How do you say, 'I'm going to retire.' It's like a good marriage, until death do us part."
Williams said aspiring Gospel artists should be sincere, put the ministry first and foremost and be patient.
He has no aches or pains. Mind still good. What a blessing. I ask God for the same.
I just love Huey so much, and I have seen the Jackson Southernaires perform numerous times over about 40 years since I got saved in 1979! It is so clear to me that he is so deeply in love with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and every time he sings he is glorifying God! The songs of this wonderful group has helped me to hold on to the Lord and keep faith in Jesus! Glory!!!
Huey is my All time favorite Lead singer he's a true pioneer in Gospel Music

Huey will stand because he is truly singing not jumping around like he is crazy people want to be fed so when he sing you understand I truly believe he and his group is saved it makes a difference I’m not holy than dou but I just like some good old fashioned singing not all the time trying to outdo each other keep singing Jackson Southern naries 😍

Wow! He talks, looks, and sounds so much like his brother Doug. Was very blessed to meet him and his group in Fort Deposit, AL in 2018. One of my favorite moments in life.

Total of 9 children. Doug is the youngest. Not sure who is the oldest. I think it is 6 boys, but I am only aware of Huey, Frank, Leonard, Melvin, and Doug.
