Yeah as soon as they started to question her (interrogatives to be used to build a case/ part of their criminal investigation) they had to read her her Miranda rights. Another test is if questions are likely to produce answers that inculpate her in a crime (especially if it’s the crime they’re actively investigating during the contact with the person). Letting those questions come from a doctor while officers stand by in the hospital room is a BS attempt to wiggle around the constitution and it shouldn’t work. If adults caught in the act of crimes get immediately read their Miranda rights before they say anything or are asked any questions that may produce incriminating answers to an officer--then a 17 year-old girl being treated in a hospital room surely deserves the same.
