Wow, woman!!! You are like the queen of fitting crazy amounts of information in a small time window! I have never used builder gel, but I've recently been wanting to try it. Thanks for all the tips! I especially liked the way you use a thin nail art brush to help with moving product out of the sidewall and cuticle area. I think I'll go all-in and try the pot!! Lol
Omg thank you so much for saying that!! That’s one of my goals!! Everyone’s so busy- I like to keep my videos short and to the point with some fun too!! Keep me posted if you try builder gel and have any questions!!! Got you entered!!
Love that tip to flip your hand over to help your apex! Love this video to see the difference between the two products. Fascinating to see how they both apply.
I don't really know too much about gel nails, but I've become really interested in rubber bases and top coats and builder gel and hard gels. So, this video was very informational for me. (I literally sat and took notes while watching your video) lol. Thank you so much I'll definitely be waiting for your next video.
Hi Tanya! I got you! Builder gel is amazing to work with- I’ve been keeping it on my natural nails for over 2.5 years and haven’t soaked off since then. I’m going to be trying rubber base very soon! I haven’t tried hard gels bc I like the flexibility of builder gels. Let me know any questions you have about builder gel and gels- I’m happy to help you!
I learned SO much from your video! Never knew of a slip layer or using gel base first. Builder Gel in a pot looks more for me due to the brush used to apply and the art nail brush to get close to cuticle line. Your nails are absolutely gorgeous 🥰
I learned what the slip layer is finally. I've heard the term a couple of times and couldn't figure out if was with gel base or builder gel, so thanks for the clarification. I'll also be trying the small nail art brush for my sidewalls!
I just started using builder gel. I’m definitely sticking with the bottle for now until I get better but using the small art brush around my cuticles will def help! Also interested in the slip layer as my natural nails are thin. Thanks!!!
The bottle really is great!! Let me know how adding the slip layer and using the nail art brush help you!! Let me know any time you have questions!! Got you entered!!
I can never get BG to stay on so I am going to have to try and skip the base coat before applying like you said and hope that helps them not pop off like 2 days in. I have only tried the jar and it wasn't too bad but I like the idea of the bottle and will probably put an otder in to try that especially to have for travel too.
Nicole, this is going to be so helpful! I bought builder gel in a bottle yesterday. Definitely seems easier to me! Can’t wait to try it. Will definitely be adding a slip layer! Thank you Nicole!
I just purchased builder gel in a jar and haven’t used it yet but definitely feel watching your videos will help when I start! I think the bottle will be more user friendly for someone new to using like me.
Hi Nicole! I love my builder gel in a bottle and it has been such a game changer for me! I have to use low odor dip liquids for my horrible dip flu and before BG I use to have lifting problems. They would pop off after just a few days. I don't know exactly why but as soon as I used builder gel under dip all my lifting issues disappeared! My manis last at least 2 weeks now, until I efile them off. I started with a BG from amazon but I want to try OG's next :) Thanks for your great tutorials!
Yay I’m so glad you love BG in a bottle!! Low odor liquids are notorious for lifting so I’m glad to hear they work better over builder gel!! You’re welcome!! Let me know anytime you have any questions!!! Got you entered!!
I am new to Builder gel but learned th3 proper way to build an apex. The slip layer looks somewhat easier using bottle vs jar. Also, use a thin brush to help move the gel around.
I learned it's a little more involved than I thought the other day when I decided I need to start using it 🙈 I learned what brushes will work and that I'll probably prefer the jar because of the mess I'll make with a bottle
I'm surprised I haven't seen anything about a slip layer before. It makes sense in practice, since you'll have covered all your bases, so to speak, so then sliding around the first layer would be easier since there's something to stick to. I need to look into using a liner brush to get around my cuticle areas; I've been using the gel brush and it's a bit awkward and thick if I try to get closer to my cuticle. I also like the idea of flash curing and then doing the 4 fingers and thumb; I've just been curing each finger separately but your way sounds like it might save me time! Thanks for all the wonderful information!!
Hey Karen! The slip layer made the application process so much faster- i can’t wait to hear how you like it! Yesss the liner brush makes it so much easier- I’m awkward at getting near my cuticles without it. Keep me posted how your next BG goes! Got you entered!
Wow I learnt so much. I'm just starting my builder gel mani and this was a great video to watch! The slip layer makes it look really easy. Thank you so much!
I finally understand what people mean when they say slip layer now! 🤯 I’ve been so intrigued by builder gel, but have been too timid to attempt it. You make it seem so simple! Thank you!!!
Yay I’m so glad you understand now!! Builder gel is amazing!! I was so scared to try it but now I love it and it’s been over 2.5 years! I promise it’s easier than you think! If you decide to try it- let me know and I can help you with any questions you have!! Got you entered!!
I also have a problem with my builder gel adhering when I use gel base. So this last time I have left it off to see if it holds better. Thanks for the tips.
Haven’t yet received my bgij it’s in the mail! I am currently using bgib from a different company. I do love it! Yet, it seems to be a little thicker than the one you are using. Now I will have to also try this one! 😊 I never thought to put a layer of primer between my bg and my gel base coat! I love learning! 😊 Thanks so much for all your videos! Last night while doing my nails I watched the video of “party gingerbread man” I laughed and laughed it was like I had friends in the room with me! ❤
Hi Meleea!! The primer just helps for more adhesion- it’s great for when you want to wear your nails a long time!! You are so welcome!!! I’m glad you enjoyed that video too!! I like to have fun! ☺️ got you entered!!
I have never done builder gel and have been looking into it a lot lately, so there’s a lot of useful information to take with this video! Thank you so much for spending the time to make it! One specific thing I leaned is to use a small brush to help build your apex. Why did I never know to do this?! I’ve always had issues with my apex.
Love your tutorials Nicole! I just purchased BG in a bottle and I'm glad to try the bottle after all! I will definitely have to try doing the slip layer. I've been binging your BG videos at work today (light work load since government offices are closed)! So brushing up on mani videos so I can do the BG when I receive my OG order. Thanks again!
I agree with you but I think a jar is sooo much easier for initial shaping. It saves me so much time in the long run. Also, thanks for the ideas to prime and dehydrate after BG. I’ve only ever done it at the start of my manis.
I put full cover tips on using the builder in a bottle. I then put on some regular polish that happened to be glitter polish (for some reason it was the ONLY one I could find that looked good). After it dried I put on 2 layers of top coat to hopefully smooth the nail from the glitter. Did NOT work. I wound up putting a layer of builder gel in a bottle on it and now it’s smooth as a newborns bottom. Just a hint if you ever run into that problem using glitter polish.
I know it’s about builder gel (which I’ve never used the jar and am so intrigued), but I’ve had itchy cuticles and such and never connected it to the hema…. I’m going to try to stick to hema-free and see if better bc I don’t want to let go of doing dip nails!
Oooono I’m so sorry to hear you’ve had itching hands!! Make sure the primer you’re using is hema free too! I stoped using primers with hema too! Got you entered!
Hi Tami!! It definitely can feel overwhelming at first- I was super nervous to try BG. You can ask me any questions if you decide to try it! Got you entered!!
I loved this video! I just bought the bg in a jar, but after watching this, I almost regret not starting with the bg in the bottle. Question, when you put the peel base on top of the gel top, do you wipe off the tacky layer first?
Thanks Beth!!! I always wipe off the gel top even though it’s a no wipe. From watching nail techs, they said a little residue can be left even on the no wipe. Got you entered!!
I’m still learning the builder gel and I’ve been using the jar. I think I need to try using the thin brush for my cuticles. I also need to figure out how to file down the pieces that have lifted a little better. Do you have any suggestions for that? Should I use a smaller file to get in close to the cuticles? Thanks as always for the videos!
Oh yay!!! The thin brush really helps so much!! I use an efile bit to get closer to my natural nails. The sanding bits! Here’s how I do a fill with an efile. I like to remove the top layer of the Bg too for a rebalance. I don’t clip any pieces up- I felt that really made me have more lifting. Let me know any other questions you have! Got you entered! ruclips.net/video/aUlLXeIcHYg/видео.html
You totally would rock builder gel Anna!! I was super nervous to try when I first did a few years ago but now I’m so glad I did! Plus you can always ask me questions!! Got you entered!!
thank you for the comparison I do better with the bottle. When you clean around your sidewalls with brush were you using acetone with it? or just a dry brush? Thank you for your videos
I love your builder gel videos however you choose to apply it!! I’ve been applying my BG with a slip layer for awhile and I love it as well. I think I first learned about it from the Nail Hub channel! It makes it so much easier because the actual structure layer (2nd layer) follows wherever the slip layer is applied, so that’s why you have to be extra careful applying the slip layer. I’m not telling you anything you clearly don’t already know! 😂😉 Anyway, I’m looking forward to your next video and another Live from you as well!
Thank you so much sweet Stephanie!!! I kept seeing it and was nervous to try- I have no idea why 😆 bc it really is so much easier!!! You can tell me all the things- I love hearing what works for everyone!! I’m so ready for more lives! My husband has been working 6-7 days a week crazy hours so nights are crazy with 3 young kids 😂 once he’s back to normal hours- I’m going to start doing more lives again!!

You make it look so easy. I think builder gel in a bottle would be the way I would go since I’ve never used builder gel before. What type of light do you use and are there any good lights that you recommend under $40? Btw I love your videos
You’re welcome!! I do put it on when I’m using gel base over builder gel since I filed and shaped it. I know a lot of people don’t, but it holds amazingly for me when I do! Got you entered!

I am going to try BG in a jar just because i think i can control the amount i get better. Do you agree? The best tip i got is to prime twice especially when using hema free. Thank you.
Hi Barb!! A lot of people do like the jar for that exact reason- they like being able to see exactly how much they’re picking up! You can always let me know more questions as you’re trying it!! I’m happy to help! Got you entered!!
I’ve learned that gel in the jar is already in liquid😅 I’m such a newbie for BG. Would definitely go with the bottle one too because I’m more used with this with dipping
I use and love both the jar and bottle but I prefer the jar overall. I am the opposite of you, I feel like I get better control of the amount on my brush and also I feel like I apply it more consistently when using the jar. Also, I like that I will be able to get every last tiny bit out of the jar and no guessing how much is left.
That’s so true you can see every drop! I kept trying to use my bottle and nothing was in there until I realized oh yea it’s empty! Lol. I’m glad you found the jar works great for you!
Beautiful mani! 😁 I like my products in a jar, I have much more control with a gel brush than I do with a bottle brush. I do wish my builder gel was a little thinner. Do you think I could mix my BG with either base or top gel to thin it a little? I can't t see why I couldn't.
Thank you so much!! I’ve never tried to mix in a base or top so I’m not sure how that would affect the longevity of the product. I’ve only mixed in colored gel for nail art purposes. Got you entered!!
I actually saw this one nail RUclipsr show how to find your apex and I thought it was super cool. So w no color on ur nails u push down on the tip of the nail and the part that turn white on the middle of ur nail is where your apex is. That’s where if u hit ur mail it would have the most stress 😊 so cool. Hopefully my explanation was helpful.
I’m gonna try not using a gel base. I just started using builder gel and it hasn’t lasted 🤦🏾♀️ I’m frustrated but I really want to learn this. My nails are thin, I’m trying to grow and strengthen them. Some of them are different lengths and building an apex is hard 🤦🏾♀️ but I will try not using the gel base. I’m using the beetles brand, idk if that’s a good brand to use. But thank you!!
Yes! Absolutely try without a gel base! That was a game changer for me - I know most people need it- but some of us need to skip it! I haven’t tried Beetles- I stopped using any gels with hema in them with so many people developing allergies to hema! Got you entered! I can help you with your lifting! What’s your cuticle prep?
I definitely think BG in a bottle will be easier for me. Pretty sure that I would tip the jar over or drop something in it and ruin it!🤦🏼♀️ I’m wondering if I do BG does that mean I don’t need to do my clear dip under my color? I am currently doing 2 layers clear, 2 color, and then 1-2 clear on top.
Hi Rachel!! The bottle definitely has a faster learning curve in my experience! If you do builder gel as a base- you won’t need clear dip under! For me- builder gel stays better than clear dip powder as a base!! I do 2 thin layers of builder gel like in these videos. Then gel base and cure, gel top and cure. Peel base, then dip. You can skip the peel base and just dip over your builder gel! Once you’ve cured, wiped off the tacky layer with alcohol, filed and shaped, then wiped off again with alcohol. Then you can dip! Let me know if you need any help if you decide to try it! Got you entered!!!
Hi Donna! I start with disposable gloves and cut off the tips so I don’t get filing dust all over my fingers and skin. I like to keep as much product off my skin as possible so I don’t get contact dermatitis from overexposure of products to my skin. And then I switch to UV shielding gloves for using the lamp!
You’re welcome!! They’re both from OG Dip Powder! Here’s the link to all the nail accessories which includes the brushes! The art is called dual sided nail liner brush and the gel brush is called builder gel brush!! ogdippowder.com/collections/nail-accessories
Hey Stephanie!! Yay I’m so glad it helped you- do as many layers as you need!! I was afraid to do the slip layer for a while so don’t feel bad!! Got you entered!!
I absolutely can!! I do builder gel and cure, wipe off tackiness, file and shape, wipe off dust with alcohol. Gel base and cure, gel top and cure. Wipe with alcohol. Peel base and dry. Then dip!
@@NicolesBeautyScene question with slip layers can you do that as well when doing forms and extending. Have a couple I broke and need to extend. I use dual forms. I just never could get the hang of paper forms. So I use what works for me 😀
@@stacywoodring4886 I just tried this last night when I fixed a nail that I broke! I did a thin slip layer over my entire thumb and then put a little extra gel where I needed to fix the broken piece! It worked great! I haven’t tried it on full extensions though.
I learned about using a slip layer. I have tried it now and I love this technique! I also learned about the importance of using Hema free. Thanks, Nicole! #3kgiveaway
Hi Amanda!! Here’s the link!! These are the only ones I’ve found that are actually lint free- I buy them by the 1000s 😆. Let me know any time you have any questions!! amzn.to/3k9CP9u
I absolutely can! It’s a super thin layer of BG applying on the nail first to allow the product to flow more evenly down the nail! You leave it uncured and apply the rest of the first layer over it- focusing on moving the BG in the areas you need to! Does that help Jessica?! Got you entered!
I use 91% isopropyl alcohol, then an actual Dehydrator- here’s the link! ogdippowder.com/products/copy-of-og-dip-powder-hema-free-dehydrator-and-primer
I can't get my builder gel to cure. What am I doing wrong?.. i prepped well and used primer and dehydrator, and flash cured each nail during application.
I don't know why, but builder gel in the jar seems easier to me when I am doing it. I feel like for me, I use too much with it from the bottle. Although, I've only done it a handful of times and could definitely use more practice with both techniques.
Some people gravitate to the jar and find it easier!!! It definitely is preference too! I feel like i picked up the bottle application faster but I still love the jar! Practicing both is fun!!
Ooono! If it’s clumped up- unfortunately that’s ruined bc it started to cure 😢 make sure you keep the jar away from lamps and sunlight, especially when it’s open. That can cure the gel while in the jar or bottle!!
Hi Kathy!! I use the coarse bit at around 20-22k rpm to remove dip and BG. And then around 8-10k rpm with the sanding bit . Is that the evening out part you mean?
@@michellesanchez6510primer goes on again after builder gel only if you file and shape it like I do after curing it and wiping with alcohol. So the gel base has something to adhere to!
@NicolesBeautyScene is it a specific kind of primer? I have like a prep/dehydrator for dip powder that u put on before u do the base for dip... I've been dipping my nails since 2020, using peel base for about 8 mos because i got tired of the soak off. Just did my 1st application of builder gel because i wanted my nails protected if they happen to pop off while I'm at work.
@@michellesanchez6510 yes! There’s a specific primer for gels! I use the hema free one from OG Dip Powder- it’s great! ogdippowder.com/products/og-dip-powder-hema-free-dehydrator-and-primer
I can’t remember where that one was from- but now I use the finger rests from SJ3 Designs and i love them so much more!! sj3designs.com/products/finger-rest
Looking into it. Looking at how to apply to try it. I had success at nail salons in the past using what they called hard gel, I think it’s the same a builder gel.

I agree with you but I think a jar is sooo much easier for initial shaping. It saves me so much time in the long run. Also, thanks for the ideas to prime and dehydrate after BG. I’ve only ever done it at the start of my manis.
I’m glad the jar works so well for you!! I really do love both!! For you entered!!
That’s great to know!!! Thank you!! I’ve used it to top glitter dips but not polishes!
Little overwhelming and haven’t made the builder gel leap yet but I think I will like the jar better because you can see what is left.
@@NicolesBeautyScene thank you so much for the response! I am going to definitely do that once I get my order today!
Thanks for the comparison. For me I prefer Biab.
You’re welcome!! The bottle really is great!

I've never tried builder gel because I'm afraid to buy it and fail. I love your videos tho always so helpful for us newbies. ❤️
You totally would rock builder gel Anna!! I was super nervous to try when I first did a few years ago but now I’m so glad I did! Plus you can always ask me questions!! Got you entered!!
BG in the bottle was definitely easier to learn when I first started using it.
I totally agree!!!
thank you for the comparison I do better with the bottle. When you clean around your sidewalls with brush were you using acetone with it? or just a dry brush? Thank you for your videos
You’re welcome! I typically use isopropyl alcohol but also keep acetone out and handy in case I want to use that. And thank you for the compliment!!
For me, as a beginner, I think the bottle would be easier to control. Thanks for this comparison...it's very helpful! 💕🌹💕
You’re welcome!!! Let me know if you try it and have any questions!!! Got you entered!!
Anyway, I’m looking forward to your next video and another Live from you as well!

Anyway, I didn’t realize there was a Giveaway when I left my comment, so I hope my comment is enough to qualify me for your Giveaway!! I love your channel and who doesn’t love to win stuff!! Let me know if I need to do something else to be entered in the Giveaway please.
Thanks Nicole! 🥰
I love filing :)
What were you doing around cuticles with? Using the micro tip q tip
Hi Kellie! I was cleaning off my cuticles with isopropyl alcohol on the micro qtips! It really gets in there nicely with them!
I learned that you don't want to use cuticle remover before using BG (any) because it will cause your nails to lift. Thanks for that tip!
You got it Michelle!!! Got you entered!!
Wow! I have learned so much, I have learned how to do builder gel! It is my dream to become a nail tech and this channel has helped me so much!❤

@@NicolesBeautyScene yea! I’m trying to learn how to do acrylic right now! 😊
You make it look so easy. I think builder gel in a bottle would be the way I would go since I’ve never used builder gel before. What type of light do you use and are there any good lights that you recommend under $40? Btw I love your videos
Thank you so much Lisa!! Yes try the bottle!! Let me get you a link!!

Thank you for teaching me about slip layers. Do you put dehydrator and primer over the builder gel? I haven't done it that way before, should I?
You’re welcome!! I do put it on when I’m using gel base over builder gel since I filed and shaped it. I know a lot of people don’t, but it holds amazingly for me when I do! Got you entered!
Where do I begin with what I've learned? Use a small art brush to get to sides, use a slip layer flash cure and on and on! Love these tutorials!

Yay!!! Let me know how it goes Michele!! Got you entered!!
I’m glad you learned something new!! Let me know if you decide to try!! Got you entered!!!
I like my products in a jar, I have much more control with a gel brush than I do with a bottle brush.
@@NicolesBeautyScene Entered? I think I missed something. 😆
@@lorriangus LOL there’s a giveaway going on with this video!!! The details are in my most recent community post!!
@@NicolesBeautyScene Cool! I'll go find it. 🙂
Or not. What community?
I actually saw this one nail RUclipsr show how to find your apex and I thought it was super cool. So w no color on ur nails u push down on the tip of the nail and the part that turn white on the middle of ur nail is where your apex is. That’s where if u hit ur mail it would have the most stress 😊 so cool. Hopefully my explanation was helpful.
That is a fabulous idea! I’ll have to try it next time I do a BG fill! Thanks Rosita!
I didn’t realize that not everyone has to use builder gel on the bottom to start. Thanks for all the info!
You’re welcome!!! Got you entered!!!
I learned that you don't cure the slip layer. I always thought ya did. I think I would have more control with bg in a jar.
I’m so glad you learned that!!! Got you entered!!
What gloves did you start with and why did you switch? Do they block UV rays?
Hi Donna! I start with disposable gloves and cut off the tips so I don’t get filing dust all over my fingers and skin. I like to keep as much product off my skin as possible so I don’t get contact dermatitis from overexposure of products to my skin. And then I switch to UV shielding gloves for using the lamp!
Thanks for your video 💖 I was wondering if you can please tell me where your gel brush & art brush are from 🙏💅
You’re welcome!! They’re both from OG Dip Powder! Here’s the link to all the nail accessories which includes the brushes! The art is called dual sided nail liner brush and the gel brush is called builder gel brush!!

The slip layer was a great idea! Also that you can do more than one layer of BG. Why didn’t I know that? 🤦🏼♀️
Hey Stephanie!! Yay I’m so glad it helped you- do as many layers as you need!! I was afraid to do the slip layer for a while so don’t feel bad!! Got you entered!!
Can you post your layers you do? I got lost lol when using peel base you put it on top of builder gel, base, top, peel base?
I absolutely can!! I do builder gel and cure, wipe off tackiness, file and shape, wipe off dust with alcohol. Gel base and cure, gel top and cure. Wipe with alcohol. Peel base and dry. Then dip!
I started with bottle but prefer jar now. One thing I learned was how to do a slip layer. Will have tu tru that this next round.
Yes that slip layer is so great to do now!! Got you entered!!!
#3kgiveaway
Woohoo! It really is awesome how much it helps!! Got you entered Sarah!!
Where do you get the pads from that you’re using to wipe your nails? I’m having trouble finding ones that are actually lint free. Thanks!

I haven’t been doing dehydrator on top of my builder gel. Can you explain the slip layer again in a little more detail?
I absolutely can! It’s a super thin layer of BG applying on the nail first to allow the product to flow more evenly down the nail! You leave it uncured and apply the rest of the first layer over it- focusing on moving the BG in the areas you need to! Does that help Jessica?! Got you entered!
What are you using for dehydrating? Is it alcohol??
I use 91% isopropyl alcohol, then an actual Dehydrator- here’s the link!

Flip the nail upside down is my favorite advice!

Wonderful wonderful beautiful
Thank you so much!! I appreciate the kind words!!!
I also want to try using 2 layers of prime....
Yesss!!! It helps me so much!! Let me know how it goes!!
I can't get my builder gel to cure. What am I doing wrong?.. i prepped well and used primer and dehydrator, and flash cured each nail during application.
@@Kdlr-c8w oh no!! Did you do a full cure after flash curing each nail? Then fully cure all the nails?
I don't know why, but builder gel in the jar seems easier to me when I am doing it. I feel like for me, I use too much with it from the bottle. Although, I've only done it a handful of times and could definitely use more practice with both techniques.
Some people gravitate to the jar and find it easier!!! It definitely is preference too! I feel like i picked up the bottle application faster but I still love the jar! Practicing both is fun!!
I have just started using a jar. It's been like a few months and it has already clumped up in the jar, idk y 😭 is it the temperature, light???????
Ooono! If it’s clumped up- unfortunately that’s ruined bc it started to cure 😢 make sure you keep the jar away from lamps and sunlight, especially when it’s open. That can cure the gel while in the jar or bottle!!
What is the ball nail bit you use to clean up the cuticles??
I use the 2 small ones in this set!
amzn.to/47hkxq0
What speed do you use your efile at? To get your BG off and then to even out the cuticle area at the end?
Hi Kathy!! I use the coarse bit at around 20-22k rpm to remove dip and BG. And then around 8-10k rpm with the sanding bit . Is that the evening out part you mean?
@@NicolesBeautyScene - the Pana XF Barrel bit you use for your cuticle line too. 🙂

Wait, so after builder gel, u put gel base, gel top coat, primer and then peel base?
