PLEASE can you do a video about free edge lifting on natural nails for beginner nail technicians? I NEVER have cuticle lifting, but discouraged because it's always on the free edge and I don't know what I'm doing wrong?
Yes! The lifting on the free edge is why I’ve veered away from overlay, and just opt for tips or full cover tips. But my nails are also really thin, so that probably has a lot to do with it. I love doing overlays, but I’ll get a greenie because it’s lifted at the free edge.
Same here!!! Especially when using half cover tips! I'd appreciate a video on this as well 😇 I'm thinking it has to do with the nail glue I was using. Recently I did a set on someone and used a different brand of nail glue, and they haven't contacted me about any lifting yet. Hoping it was just an issue with the glue 🤞 Regardless, I'd definitely love a video on this!
I think I've found my mistake...I was "over prepping the free edge", essentially weakening the nail, so the gel had nothing to hold on to...hope this helps someone! X
Some people have naturally oily nail beds, so wiping with alcohol is important. Make sure it is completely dry before you use your dehydrator. Yes, the combination is important!! If you choose not to use alcohol, use a dry lint free wipe to get rid of all the dust. The slip layer is meant to be thin; yes: cured; yes. It is meant to be the general, final shape (almond, ballerina, stiletto, etc) and length you want. (Less likely to flood the cuticle). Gel sticks to gel so the dispersion layer is enough for your structure bead(s). Keep in mind, Susie is a veteran professional. What we find easy for experienced pros, is not easy for newbies. Especially when doing your own nails.
I just found this channel. I'm a stay-at-home mom and caregiver for my elderly mother. My kids are getting older...finally 😊 So, I'm TRYING to grow my nails and get back to have them looking pretty. I've had to keep them super short for 20+ years. There are many more new products on the market than when I last had nice nails! It's a bit overwhelming. I'm glad there are channels like this where newbies like me can learn. Thank you!
IKR 😊I am using this video for help with my own nails 💅 super helpful right now. I'm saving $115 every 3 weeks which adds up to a whopping Annual Savings of $1,933. Whaaaaa why wouldn't I be learning from this lovely Auntie 😍 Thanks, darling 😘 ❤️
I am not a nail technician, never had anything done on my nails. I give myself home manicures and polish my own nails - but i love watching your informative videos and your EXCEPTIONAL technique. Love your voice, delivery and content. The thing that amazes me is how beautiful and healthy your nails are even with all the drilling, buffing, glueing etc. that you must put them thru doing all the videos that you do.
That's a beautiful colour. I have been watching for so many years, I must have seen you build a nail hundreds of times and I still watch and enjoy it. I think along with the skill, you have a very calming, beautiful nature about you. Thanks for all the info over the years Susie. x
Your videos came up on my search, but were so much longer than others that I skipped them at first. After spending the same amount of time watching shorter videos that didn't help at all, I now find myself subscribing to your channel. 😅 Great videos, beautiful delivery, I love your warmth and expert guidance. Thank you! 🥰
I'm so excited. I just bought Suzie's new brush, files, and that blingy brush and the white towel. I can't wait to get it. I bought her dappin dish with the blue lid a while ago. I wish she'd autograph my order for me like she did the last time. I took her autograph with her photo n put it in a light blue frame and hung it on my walls in my nail studio, even though my studio is all pink lol, I'm a big fan. Thanks Suzie
Awwww - I can certainly autograph something for you. I remember the first time you asked actually period. That was a long time ago ago if I’ve ever correctly. Send an email to hello@nailcareer.com and mention your order number, and if we have not sent it out already, I will send a little something for you
First, thank you so much for putting out these videos. Frustrated by nail techs in my area only doing what’s fast, and ignoring what’s best for my nails, I started the long journey of learning how to do my own acrylic. I know this is about gel, I’m struggling with where to post a question. I just ordered product from you, which I’m excited to try!! My issue is lifting on the tips of my nails. I have my natural nails short. I use acrylic to keep my nails strong enough to grow out long. I do not like my natural nail filed away. I used to have a nail tech who did a beautiful job and never ever took anything off my natural nail, but they retired. I’ve not found anyone since who doesn’t do this, instead they either use super glue on the very ends, or they grind my nail away. Now that I’m doing it myself, I understand this more as it’s frustrating to have the tips separate from the acrylic. How do I fix this??? Thank you so much, I love your videos!!
Get yourself a nail dehydrator and nail primer ... You apply it after you finish prepping your nails before you apply your acrylic or gel.. I can almost guarantee that is why your acrylic or gel is separating from your natural nail.. It's a game changer.. My nails last a while month of not longer with no lifting or separation.. I usually try to do my nails every 3 weeks
So pretty!! My biggest issue with lifting comes from my hyperhidrosis because my nails always have that extra moisture. I get this dramatic "U" shaped lifted area, it's so annoying. I've found I get less lifting when using a rubber base and an acid primer.
I know I'm months late on this, but I started working with gel over the last few months. I've really noticed lately how good I'm getting with my application and how much less filing I'm having to do! My last set I did on my daughter looked SO nice structurally 😍
@NailCareerEducation oh my gosh, I can't believe you replied!! 😍😭 you're the whole reason I got into nails! I started following you years ago for your acrylic videos and it's because of you that I'm even as confident as I am now with my technique! It's funny cuz I started with lumpy and bumpy nails and had to file a lot to find the nail within, so to speak. Now my nails are smooth and I'm hand drawing characters like mickey mouse and it's all thanks to you, so THANK YOU! You've helped a lot of people like me, and we all appreciate it, and you, for it!
I've had my nails professionally done twice and it hurts, so I'm learning to do them myself. Thank you so much for all the knowledge and wisdom that you put in every video!!!
I found suzie during covid when we all had to stop working...i spent many night's watching the great video's and i was looking forward to getting back to work. Thank you suzie
Love love love Suzie’s hybrid gel. Got my first supply a month ago and it is so easy to work with in shaping and filing. Thanks Suzie for your high quality products❤❤❤
I just discovered combining rubber base and no primer definitely saved me (with my prepping) from lifting my gel x while trying to grow out my natural nails (this is my 3rd attempt) . I JUST BOUGHT A BABY BIT TODAY too! Helped me so much on my non dominant hand!
Can you please please please do a tutorial on the pearl, abalone shell, and silver beads on a hybrid gel nail?! I really appreciate all your tutorials, I just cannot work with acrylic yet, so I mainly use polygel or hybrid gel.
Tip sizing is important for lifting. That is what I wanted to learn about. How to size press ons the best way. Those of us with flat nails have a hell of time. We get lifting because a tip is too wide or too small. Also when they grow out since the cuticle of the nails is narrower than the smile line they lift. Also making sure the space is filled on flat nails because flat nails very easily get air pockets and again we have lifting. I’d love a video on these issues.
Suzie, do you have a video about filing the old gel nails off? Like how deep to file it without damaging the nail, how to make the base for the new gel if there is small leftover of the old gel (so that you dont accidentally file your own nail thinner).
Hi Suzie. I've just recently started doing my own nails. I've ended up in a sticky mess at times lol. I did my nails last night with builder gel and was well pleased with the result. This morning, oh no, a nail lifted. Then I saw your video. Couldn't have come at a better time. The nail that lifted I stuck down with nail glue for now but thank you for your lesson, much appreciated ❤
Love your videos. ❤ And you explain it detailed. easy to follow. How are Cameraman doing? hope he fells better now! I have been taking medicines for 10 + years because of a chronic disease and used to have lifting quite a lot for some years. and then it suddenly changed, but i did the prep and everything the same, one of the medicines are hormones, and that affect the nails to just as much as the rest of the body. and suddenly i only had a little lifting on the dominant hand on the thumb and index finger. (i only remove the lifted area and do infill) and yesterday i had to take off all the gel and build it up from the beginning again. for there was so much lifting. don't know how the gel still was stuck to the nail 🤣 but the prep and everything is still done the same.
Yes meds can alter the oily state of a natural nail. Normally this doesn’t not matter we don’t even notice it but when we’re putting products on top of that, then we do notice the oil. Sounds like you were handling it rather well I’m sorry to hear about your illness. ❤️
I use full cover tips and nail glue due to having contact dermatitis to gel and acrylic. I push back the cuticle, dehydrate the nail, and file cuticle area to make smooth after glued on. Are there any other precautions I could take to make them last longer? I'm averaging about 7-10 days.
Hello! I use Polygel and do my own nails and my two teenage nieces nails. I use the same process and have no lifting on my own nails, but my nieces often lift. What do you think I could be doing wrong? Thank you!
Mine lift from the free edge, I buff them, clean with alcohol, use dehydrator, bond, sometimes I apply base and I've even tried clear builder gel as a base. In the last 3 years, I never had this problem until a couple of months ago. At this point I do not know what else to do.
I don't do nails anymore. I have decided to change careers and become a Realtor. However, I still love watching your videos. I have been watching a long time. Nails are in my blood no matter what. I also love that you have your own product line. Blessings to you and camera man. Thanks Suzie
Yes/ BRIDGE is a Bonder for Gel. It’s an adhesive. I call it Bridge because it Bridge between your natural nail and gel polish or fake nail and gel polish Or between acrylic and gel - it’s the BRIDGE ADHESIVE
Suzie, could you please make a video about strippers that are used to pop enhancements off with oil or pressure? Do they really protect the natural nail? Love your content!
@NailCareerEducation I've watched that one and thank you for answering. But I'm talking about stripping base coats that dissolve with time or oils so you can remove enhancements without filing them off. Like Jello Jello.
@@NailCareerEducation I believe they're also called Peel-off base coats. Don't they also strip a layer or two off from the natural nail? And if they don't, why not?
I was told that when your nails grow out and you do fills that you must keep your nail oiled. Under the nail that you apply. It can cause them to dry out and a nail will pop even if you do proper cleaning and prep of the cuticle Ill be testing this.
In my 35 years of doing acrylic and gel full sculpted, we never pushed oil and we rarely had issues. So sure you can put oil on the nail and it’s not going to hurt, but it’s not gonna help that exponentially. It’s nice to add it, but it’s not crucial to the longevity of any nail service.
You’re not lifting in the sense we say in the nail industry Your natural nail is pulling away Our naturals can curl away So as it grows it’s growing away and curling bust the same time
If I’m learning to use the efile on prep work, how do I practice the prep work like the cuticles on fake fingers?!?! I tried doing the cuticles on myself and it’s clear I was using the wrong bit and wrong technique. I gave myself a painless ring of fire underneath my cuticle and I’m scared to try practicing on any of my other nails?????
I accidentally got too aggresive with my cuticle prep and damaged my nails. I used cuticle bits on a low setting on my efile but still damaged my nails. What is the trick?! What file grit if doing it by hand?
I can’t get my nails done correctly. My cuticles are always looking rough. You can tell the difference between the nail and the cuticle. I wish I can send a picture for a better explanation
I actually thought they were universally available since I watch many videos from across the world! I’ve heard them called cuticle pushers? Maybe look for disposable cuticle pushers? Or start a hunt for disposable nail care? They are so handy!
Could be a couple things- Poor quality and there’s nothing you can do. Or if it’s synthetic, then it can lose its shape very quickly and it does not go back. Or if it is a good quality and it’s 100% natural hair or even 50/50 it can get frayed if the brush has been pushed in the opposite direction of the way it is laid inside the brush barrel. So it is important on how you use it. Also, if any acrylic was cured in the brush, it can totally destroy the hairs. However, I have had Brushes where I have cure Product it inside the hair and I had no patience to soak it out because I had a client immediately so I literally cut it out And surprising how much you can cut out before you destroy the brush. I’ve done this many times over the years and was able to use the brush for quite a bit longer, in some cases months before I actually got around to getting a new one
my stepmother keeps asking me if i could do her nails (i’m very good at just normal polish) so she could save money on going to a salon and i’m like… “girl if you buy me one of suzie’s kits i can practice by watching her videos and eventually do your nails” hahaha we’ll see!
No. Although Polygel ( which is a brand) it’s actually called Hybrid gel comes in many colours And so does other gels - but note hard gel and hybrid gel are different
@@NailCareerEducation they seem to have really close uses and look similar. Even removing it as well... The blend I made hard gel mixed with glitter and mica it's lasted 4 weeks, I just did the acetone and foil it came off half in about 20 minutes, kind of brittle. It also files off. We can seem to find large containers of either. Do you have a brand of product for sale?
Why would we encourage someone to keep the same nail set for 8 weeks? Isn’t that too much grow out? Wouldn’t the apex move and make the nail less stable?
PLEASE can you do a video about free edge lifting on natural nails for beginner nail technicians? I NEVER have cuticle lifting, but discouraged because it's always on the free edge and I don't know what I'm doing wrong?

I use full cover tips and nail glue due to having contact dermatitis to gel and acrylic. I push back the cuticle, dehydrate the nail, and file cuticle area to make smooth after glued on. Are there any other precautions I could take to make them last longer? I'm averaging about 7-10 days.
Any tips on how not to over file the natural nail?
Can you do a cuticle video for people who are really scared to fully do their cuticles i push them back but im always scared to cut them

I accidentally got too aggresive with my cuticle prep and damaged my nails. I used cuticle bits on a low setting on my efile but still damaged my nails. What is the trick?! What file grit if doing it by hand?
Use 180 grit file to prep nails
Hello ma’am I’m from Afghanistan and started this nails extensions but it’s not working for me. I’m crying because of it tell me what to do
Love your new nail polish collection, nudes, and pastel colours, I'm glad I found your channel & new subscriber.
My pnf is callused so I cut that crap off no sense of having dead skin just hanging out lol
Cool 😀
I can’t get my nails done correctly. My cuticles are always looking rough. You can tell the difference between the nail and the cuticle. I wish I can send a picture for a better explanation
Does anyone know where i can get the wooden sticks with a flat end that Suzie uses? Can't seem to find them anywhere online!
I’ve found them on Amazon. A search for orangewood sticks brought them up.
@@queenbeemo42 I couldn't find them on Amazon, maybe this kind of orangewood sticks is more common in North America.
I actually thought they were universally available since I watch many videos from across the world! I’ve heard them called cuticle pushers? Maybe look for disposable cuticle pushers? Or start a hunt for disposable nail care? They are so handy!
@@queenbeemo42 I will, thank you for your help!
SUSIE, my acrylic brush seems to be flipping it's hairs? it's not soomth as if it were new...WHY?
Could be a couple things-
Poor quality and there’s nothing you can do.
Is "slip" specific to a gel product line, or is it just Iso Alcohol?
Its generally ISO Alcohol- and tax specific to Hybrid Gel ( also known as Polygel )
my stepmother keeps asking me if i could do her nails (i’m very good at just normal polish) so she could save money on going to a salon and i’m like… “girl if you buy me one of suzie’s kits i can practice by watching her videos and eventually do your nails” hahaha we’ll see!
My lifting is never near the cuticle. It's always at the free edge. What am I doing wrong?
Sounds like your natural nail is growing ( curling ) away from product
So it’s not really lifting but appears so
File the nail and use a good primer. Gel needs something to grip to.
Isn't the poly gel just like the colored gel?
No. Although Polygel ( which is a brand) it’s actually called Hybrid gel comes in many colours
And so does other gels - but note hard gel and hybrid gel are different
@@NailCareerEducation they seem to have really close uses and look similar. Even removing it as well... The blend I made hard gel mixed with glitter and mica it's lasted 4 weeks, I just did the acetone and foil it came off half in about 20 minutes, kind of brittle. It also files off. We can seem to find large containers of either. Do you have a brand of product for sale?
Peace Love and Light m ✨️ ❤️ 💕
❤
Not to sure why My lifting happens at the free edge. More than the cuticle 😊
1:12 is cuticle dead skin?
Yes basically
💜
Product too thick!!?! This can cause lifting???? Omg please teach me
Why would we encourage someone to keep the same nail set for 8 weeks? Isn’t that too much grow out? Wouldn’t the apex move and make the nail less stable?
