I have been married to my wife for nearly 20 years. We have six children. Quite frankly, we were never able to "afford it" by the definitions westerners use to justify having children. But we did.
I live with constant anxiety about the future. I have absolutely no faith in any governments, institutions or churches here or around the world. They are all complicit in this malaise. More and more, I feel like we are on our own.
Like so many of us, my ancestors were homesteaders. They knew how to survive with much less (and still have children). We now live as the human equivalent of declawed housecats. That is what this era has done to us. We have maintained little to none of the knowledge needed to survive outside of this house of cards.
I resent this modern life while being grateful for the things it has provided me. I am dependant on it. I also do not think there was anything glamorous about how earlier generations lived. They were simply surviving.
I do not feel prepared for the future. I am not confident that we are ready for what's coming next.

Many people today are lonely, isolated and unhappy. There is a stark lack of community, friendships, family, general support. We are totally at the mercy of our employers for our paychecks as the only means of survival that we have. We have little to no control over our lives. There is hopelessness in the air and a constant sense that an impending disaster is on the horizon. Why would people want to have children in such a situation?

Some people are barking up the wrong tree. Yelling at people to just have kids is futile, until the whole western system becomes human friendly and functional again. Why should I bring a child into relative poverty, a dysfunctional education system, a dysfunctional healthcare system, a dysfunctional government, random murders for no reason on the streets, egoistic people in survival mode etc.?
And I'm not even talking about the USA but germany. Don't believe the grass is much greener here. It's overall better, but the problems are the same, just more modest. And in 10 years it will be like the USA today.

I have friends who have 1-2 kids and would decide to have more but they simply cannot afford it. One income family is almost impossible now, women have to work as well and they cannot afford to buy bigger place to live (families live in small apartamentach and pay the interest of morgage for 25-30 years), not to mention daycare or being able to afford decent, healthy food. But the native population is in negative growth and its the same for lots of western countries. I have 2 children-1 has opted out of having children and the other has 2 children. Looking at it in a microcosm, there are not enough youngsters in my own family to sustain us in the future. Not sure how to deal with that but perhaps some of the taxpayer money going to other countries for green initiatives and wars should be spent in our own country to support families so that 1 parent can stay at home and we don't need dual, income to survive.

We're living in a world where two parent households, both parents working standard 9 to 5s, barely make enough to maintain the household in first world countries. Here in the UK, immigrants, including illegals and "asylum seekers" are given a house and money while old native Brits are told they're not eligible for winter fuel allowance and basically being told "feed yourself and freeze or go hungry and stay warm". This is being done under a political party that built its reputation on being for the common, working class mind you, and they can't throw those people under the bus quick enough. People who have nothing but contempt for human life and innocence are working in law enforcement, healthcare and the judiciaries. The rich are getting richer. The bloodline dies with me, thank you very much. I have enough worries of my own without the incomprehensible dread of what could happen to my child.

The Indian upper-class should organize life to be more democratic, affordable, safe, and comfortable there, but now they choose to export their population and problems to the Western world that has a better system. To trade with them, the Western countries could very well demand improved systems, that don't drive emigration from poor cuntries. I used to be into this local band back in the early 1990s and they wrote a song called "Human Race", very prophtic for something that's now 35 years old and written by a bunch of 20 year olds at the start of the 1990s when life was so free and easy. This small sample of the lyrics is so prophetic and sums up where we are now.
"What is going to happen when the cities we built turn to sand.
I will try to undertand that some of us still love this land.
But is the game played out? Did the bubble burst?
And if the race is won, who got there first?
I can't live in this crazy place, no no.
There's something wrong with the human race.
We turned this world into complete disgrace.

Where I live in the US, I also see more assisted living complexes going up, and our local hospital and clinics growing with the increase of the aged. But I live on a street a block from a elementary school and over the last few years I have seen a slight increase in families walking their kids to school usually a dad with a small group of kids and one in the stroller, and sometimes a mom will be walking a bunch kids to school. I have also seen more young couples with a baby and perhaps a couple of older brothers or sister while I am out shopping or eating at a restaurant. Seeing that gives me a little hope things might be quietly changing.

It's crazy to me how people accept being taxed to death when it used to cause revolutions. Inflation is another hidden tax to destroy wealth people accumulate, make people debt slaves and easy to control. I think they could increase tax to 90% and people would just go with it. Humanity is on its last leg because they refuse to do anything about it, that's the sad reality.

In my family my parents are very individualistic and doesn’t help me and my wife. They say that having children is my choice and my responsibility. They want to continue their lives free. Sad that they don’t understand that they will need help when they grow old. I am not motivated to help them since they let me and my wife handle our situation alone. While I do not want children of myself I do agree that those who do get children should have the ability to have 1 stay at home parent. Regardless of gender. I'm the eldest of 4 and my mother was a stay at home mom until my youngest sibling could care for himself. I'm 35 and back then it was already a rare commodity to have a stay at home parent as this was in the 90's. But me and my siblings are all stronger because of it, we learnt how to fend for ourselves, we learnt what common decency is and we got taught what it means to live in this society. These are all things you do not learn at school. I'll be forever grateful for my parents for splitting the work this way as having a family means there is a lot of work. 24/7 stay at home parents I salute you, you have my utmost respect.
